What is the Samsung SRS588DLS?
The SRS588DLS is a stainless-steel, 589-litre side-by-side refrigerator sold for the Australian market. Samsung model documentation and Australian retailer specifications divide that total into 367 litres of refrigerator storage and 222 litres of freezer storage. Retail specifications from Andoo and Winning list the 588 kWh figure and a 2.5-star rating. Appliances Online’s calculator displays an estimated annual energy cost of $170.52 under its own assumptions. That dollar amount is not a guaranteed bill: your electricity tariff, supply charge and usage pattern determine the real cost.
Is the SRS588DLS still worth buying in 2026?
It can be, but the decision is more about condition and fit than headline features. Several Australian retailers now mark the model unavailable, and ProductReview lists it as discontinued. Remaining stock, used units and refurbished examples may still appear, but warranty terms and service support can differ sharply between sellers.

- You have a 912 mm-wide opening and enough depth for a 700 mm cabinet without obstructing a passage.
- A plumbed water line is available where the refrigerator will stand.

- Confirm that the water line is connected and the filter is installed. Ask when the filter was last replaced.
- Run the chilled-water dispenser for several seconds. Look for a steady flow, unusual noise, leaks around the door and water pooling beneath the unit.
- Operate the ice dispenser in each available mode. Listen for the auger motor and check that ice exits without repeated jams.
- Open the ice bin and inspect for clumped, partially melted or heavily frosted ice. These signs can indicate temperature, seal or dispensing problems.

These are small, self-selected samples. They cannot establish an overall failure rate or prove that every unit will last four years without repair. Their practical value is narrower: they suggest that capacity and everyday cooling satisfy some owners, while the ice path deserves a hands-on test and a realistic maintenance plan.
Where can you get replacement parts?
Parts listings identify an ice maker compatible with the SRS588DLS, including references to DA97-13415A. Another parts retailer lists a genuine 400 W defrost element for this model. Compatibility lists can cover related Samsung models, so do not order from the model name alone.

Can the SRS588DLS be used without connecting water?
