It can work by itself or beside a compatible single-door freezer, but its discontinued status and conflicting published energy and warranty information make verification essential before you pay.

The 387-litre figure is gross volume, not a promise that every litre is usable after shelves, bins and air channels are installed. Compare the usable capacity stated on any newer listing rather than assuming two refrigerators with the same gross number hold identical quantities.
How do the SRP406RS cooling and storage features work?

All Around Cooling
Samsung says All Around Cooling cools the refrigerator “every inch … evenly from corner to corner.” Vents distribute cold air through the cabinet so the temperature does not depend solely on the coldest point near the rear wall. In use, leave the air paths clear and avoid packing food tightly against vents; blocked circulation can create warm spots regardless of the system name.
Power Cool
Power Cool is a temporary rapid-cooling mode listed by the retailer. It is useful after loading a large amount of room-temperature food or when you need drinks chilled quickly. Because a rapid-cooling cycle asks the compressor to run harder, use it for a specific recovery task and return to normal operation when the load is cold.
Digital Inverter Compressor
Samsung describes the compressor as automatically adjusting speed to cooling demand, which is intended to reduce energy use, operating noise and wear compared with a compressor that repeatedly runs at one fixed speed. The specification sheet links the compressor design to a longer-lasting performance, but that marketing statement is not a measured service-life guarantee.

Slide & Fold shelf
The Slide & Fold shelf lets part of a shelf move or fold so taller containers can stand below it. This is more useful than a fixed shelf layout when you alternate between cartons, bottles and wide food containers. Check the shelf mechanism before purchase for smooth travel and inspect replacement-part availability if the refrigerator is old stock.
Easy Open Handle and door storage
Samsung describes the Easy Open Handle as making the door easier to open. Appliances Online also lists an adjustable door bin, allowing some repositioning as bottle and jar sizes change. A reversible hinge gives placement flexibility, but the handle and hinge conversion should be completed according to the supplied instructions rather than improvised.
LED lighting, frost-free operation and alarm
LED lighting illuminates the interior with less heat and power than older bulb systems. Frost-free operation removes the need for routine manual defrosting. A door-open alarm is a useful safeguard in a tall cabinet, particularly when the door is not fully closed after loading.

Measure the delivery route and the final installation space, not just the appliance opening. The cabinet is 595 mm wide, 1,853 mm high and 694 mm deep, and the retailer lists a 71 kg shipping weight for the unit itself.
Use this measurement checklist
- Measure the niche width at the narrowest point, including any skirting, trim or protruding hinges.
- Measure height to the lowest obstruction, such as an overhead cabinet, cornice or light fitting.
- Measure depth from the rear wall to the front edge of the surrounding cabinetry; include the door and handle in the clearance you need to open it.
- Trace the route through doors, lifts, corridors and stair turns. A 71 kg appliance may require two people and a suitable trolley.
- Decide which way the door should swing before delivery. A reversible door helps, but reversing it still requires time, tools and a level installation.
- Leave the ventilation and service space specified in the model manual and retailer installation guidance; do not seal the cabinet tightly into a custom enclosure.
The refrigerator can stand alone, but a matching single-door freezer beside it may create a more symmetrical installation. Treat that as a planning option rather than an included accessory: the SRP406RS itself is fridge-only.
What do the conflicting energy figures mean?
There is no single consistent published energy result for this model. Samsung’s current specification sheet states four stars, and Appliances Online lists four stars with 170 kWh per annum. CHOICE’s public record instead shows three stars and 205 kWh per year from its 2023 test record.

The difference is material: 205 kWh is 35 kWh more per year than 170 kWh, about 21 percent above the retailer figure. Do not convert either number into an exact electricity bill without your tariff, because the cost depends on the rate you pay and the test or label conditions.

For a purchase decision, photograph the energy label on the actual unit or request a current specification from the seller. Ask which regional energy-label standard applies, whether the number is annual consumption or a test estimate, and why the seller’s data differs from the CHOICE record. If the retailer cannot reconcile the discrepancy, use the higher 205 kWh figure for budgeting rather than assuming the lower number.
What warranty does Samsung provide for the SRP406RS?
The warranty descriptions also conflict. Samsung’s specification sheet says the refrigerator is backed by a 20-year warranty on the compressor, and its footnote limits that 20-year coverage to the compressor only. Appliances Online lists a two-year manufacturer warranty for the appliance plus a 10-year parts warranty on the Digital Inverter Compressor.

These descriptions may reflect different regional terms, dates or distinctions between parts and labour. Before ordering, obtain the warranty document that applies to your country and serial number. Confirm who pays labour, transport and diagnosis, whether coverage transfers to a second owner, and whether the long compressor period covers parts only. Keep the invoice, model label and installation record because a long compressor term does not automatically mean twenty years of full-refrigerator service.
Is the Samsung SRP406RS worth buying?
It can be worthwhile when you need a tall, fridge-only cabinet with a reversible door and flexible shelf layout, and when a verified seller offers clear warranty terms at a sensible price. How should you install and configure the refrigerator?

Keep the condenser and ventilation areas clear according to the manual, wipe spills promptly, and wash removable bins and shelves with products approved for food-contact surfaces. Avoid forcing a shelf or bin when it is cold and brittle.
Check the gasket for dirt and gaps, especially after a door reversal. A poor seal can cause long compressor run times, condensation and higher energy use. Keep food from blocking internal vents so All Around Cooling can circulate air, and avoid leaving the door open while deciding what to remove.
If the door-open alarm sounds unexpectedly, first check for a container preventing closure, a bin fitted incorrectly or a cabinet that is not level.
