Verdict: The Samsung SRL456LS is a conventional bottom-mount refrigerator with practical features—an inverter compressor, no-frost multi-flow cooling, a reversible door and a foldable shelf—but it is now an old-stock or second-hand proposition rather than a straightforward new purchase. Conflicting capacity figures, no public detailed performance score, and discontinued status make verification more important than the feature list. It can be a good buy when the cabinet, seals, compressor, serial number and local parts support all check out at a clearly discounted price. If you want a new appliance, use the SRL456LS dimensions and usable-volume figures as a benchmark for a current replacement.
Is the Samsung SRL456LS a good refrigerator?
It is a sensible design for a household that wants a bottom freezer without a water connection, smart-app features or a built-in dispenser. Samsung specifies Digital Inverter Technology, All Around Cooling, Power Freeze and a four-star energy rating. The layout is conventional and serviceable, and the reversible door helps when the kitchen has an awkward hinge side.

The qualification is its age and availability. Andoo reports that the model is no longer available, while ProductReview.com.au and Consumer NZ label it discontinued. That does not make every remaining unit a bad refrigerator, but it changes the buying decision: condition, remaining warranty, parts access and seller legitimacy matter more than the original specification sheet. Publicly available owner feedback is mixed rather than conclusive, and CHOICE does not publish the model’s detailed test scores without membership access.
- Best fit: a buyer who finds a clean, verifiable unit at a compelling price and does not need plumbing or a dispenser.

How large is the SRL456LS, and which capacity figure is correct?
There is no single capacity number that can be compared without stating the measurement basis. Samsung’s brochure calls the refrigerator 427 L, while retailer and test pages quote 458 L. The Appliances Online sheet separates net capacity from its total figure; CHOICE uses claimed refrigerator and freezer capacities. These values should not be treated as interchangeable.

For shopping decisions, compare the net refrigerator and net freezer volumes when a manufacturer provides them. If a listing only says “458 L,” ask the seller for the refrigerator and freezer breakdown and the measurement standard. A larger gross figure can include space occupied by liners, shelves, evaporator housings and other internal hardware.
What are the cabinet dimensions?
The recurring external dimensions are approximately 1,700 mm high, 700 mm wide and 705 mm deep. Appliances Online lists 600 mm depth without the door. That distinction matters when the refrigerator must sit in a shallow alcove: the handles, door thickness and the clearance needed for the door to open are outside the cabinet-only number.

Measure the doorway, lift, hallway turns and final cavity before purchase. A reversible door helps with hinge placement, but it does not eliminate the need for front clearance: drawers and shelves must be able to open far enough for removal and cleaning. Do not push the cabinet tight against a wall until the manual’s rear and side ventilation requirements have been checked.

- Digital Inverter Compressor: Samsung says, “The Digital Inverter Compressor automatically adjusts its speed in response to cooling demand.” Variable-speed operation is intended to avoid simply running at one fixed speed, although the available material does not establish a comparative noise or energy test result against another model.
- All Around Cooling: vents distribute cold air through the cabinet rather than cooling from one single outlet.
- No-frost and multi-flow cooling: the freezer is designed to avoid routine manual defrosting and to circulate air through multiple channels.
- Power Freeze: a temporary faster-freezing mode for newly added food or ice-making demand. It uses additional cooling effort, so return to the normal setting when the load is frozen.

There is no water dispenser and no plumbing requirement. That reduces installation complexity and eliminates a water-line leak point, but it also means ice and chilled water are not delivered through the door.
How much electricity does the SRL456LS use?
The published figures are close but not identical because they come from different sources and dates. CHOICE reported 330 kWh per year from its 2021 test listing. Appliances Online currently lists 346 kWh per year. Samsung’s brochure gives a four-star energy rating but does not make those two annual figures interchangeable.

Annual running cost depends on your electricity tariff: multiply the label’s kWh-per-year figure by your price per kWh. Real consumption varies with room temperature, door openings, thermostat setting, ventilation, how full the cabinet is and whether Power Freeze is used. Treat the figures as standardized comparison values, not a promise of an identical household bill.
What did the refrigerator cost when it was sold?
Historical price references are useful for judging a used listing, but they are not today’s offer prices. CHOICE displayed $1,299 on a page crawled in 2026, while Canstar Blue’s category guide listed a $1,249 RRP. Neither figure establishes the price, condition or warranty of a remaining unit.

A discontinued refrigerator should normally be discounted enough to compensate for age, transport risk and uncertain parts availability. Compare the seller’s price with a current model offering a similar net volume, footprint, energy rating and warranty—not simply with an old RRP.
Is the Samsung SRL456LS discontinued, and where can you still buy one?
Availability evidence points to discontinuation. Andoo says the product is no longer available. ProductReview.com.au labels it discontinued, and Consumer NZ also labels it discontinued; Consumer NZ’s page was last updated on 7 October 2024. Any listing you find is therefore likely to be old stock, a clearance unit or a used refrigerator, depending on the seller and country.
Before paying, ask for a photograph of the rating plate, the serial number, the manufacturing date if shown, and the seller’s written warranty terms. A marketplace description that still says “new” may describe unused old stock rather than a recently manufactured appliance.
What do owners report?
ProductReview.com.au shows 2.9 out of 5 from 11 reviews. Its category scores are 3.4 for build quality, 3.3 for value, 3.8 for ease of use, 3.5 for cleaning and maintenance, 3.7 for noise and 3.7 for internal layout. Eleven reviews are an anecdotal sample, not a reliability rate or a controlled test, so use them to identify questions rather than to predict the life of an individual refrigerator.

How do I inspect a used or old-stock SRL456LS?
Do the inspection while the refrigerator is running and cold. A short powered-off demonstration can hide compressor, fan and temperature problems.
- Verify identity: photograph the model and serial labels and confirm that they say SRL456LS. Match the label with the seller’s paperwork and check that the plug and voltage suit your country.
- Check cabinet and doors: look for rust, bulges, impact damage, cabinet cracks and a door that drops or rubs. Confirm the magnetic gasket seals continuously around all four sides.
- Test the hinge side: open the door fully, check that shelves and drawers can be removed, and ask whether the reversible-door hardware is complete if you need to change sides.

- Plan transport: measure every route, keep the cabinet upright as far as the moving instructions require, and allow it to stand for the period specified in the manual before powering it after transport.
What warranty applies to the SRL456LS?
CHOICE lists a two-year warranty. Appliances Online describes a two-year domestic warranty and notes a 10-year limited warranty on digital-compressor parts. The 10-year statement is a parts limitation, not ten years of complete refrigerator coverage, and the exact terms can depend on region, purchase date, registration and whether the unit is second-hand.
For old stock or a used unit, ask for the original invoice and read the warranty document rather than relying on a product-page summary. Confirm whether labor, refrigerant, seals, electronic boards and transport are covered, and whether the warranty transfers to a second owner. If the manufacturer or seller cannot confirm support for the serial number, value the appliance as out of warranty.
