The Samsung SRF9400BFH is worth considering only if you will use its connected food-management features and can accommodate a very large, plumbed-in refrigerator. It offers 636 L of storage, a 21.5-inch Family Hub touchscreen, camera-based AI Vision Inside, an auto-fill water jug and two ice makers. The trade-offs are substantial: a 912 mm-wide cabinet, approximately 143 kg of weight, a required water connection, a 3-star energy label and a listed price of A$5,099. Independent test scores for temperature, noise and reliability are not publicly available, while a small set of owner reviews is mixed. For a household that mainly wants cold storage, a conventional French-door refrigerator may deliver better value; for a connected kitchen that will use food lists, expiry tracking and the screen, this model is more distinctive.
What is the Samsung SRF9400BFH?
The SRF9400BFH is a matte-black, four-door French-door refrigerator sold as an extra-large model. Its stated total capacity is 636 L, divided into 386 L of refrigerator space and 250 L of freezer space. That split gives it enough room for a large household, bulk shopping or entertaining, but it also creates installation demands that are easy to underestimate from a product photograph.

Samsung’s pitch is not just capacity. The appliance combines a 21.5-inch touchscreen running Tizen 6.0, SmartThings connectivity, an internal camera, microphone and speaker, food-recognition software, an internal Beverage Centre with an auto-fill jug, triple cooling with a metal cooling duct and dual ice makers. Those features make the SRF9400BFH closer to a connected kitchen appliance than a conventional refrigerator.
How large is the SRF9400BFH?
It is physically large by domestic-refrigerator standards. The cabinet is 1,830 mm high, 912 mm wide and 723 mm deep, and the appliance weighs about 143 kg. CHOICE places it in the extra-large category, defined as 525 L or more.

Those are cabinet dimensions, not a promise that the boxed appliance will pass through every route into your kitchen. Before ordering, measure the entrance door, hallway turns, lift or stair access and the final opening beside cabinets. Also check the room around the hinge side and the front of the unit: doors, drawers and the Beverage Centre need usable opening space, not merely a cavity that matches the width.
Record the width at the narrowest point of your route and compare it with the delivery company’s unpacking procedure. A 912 mm appliance can be difficult to rotate in a narrow hallway even when the destination opening is wide enough. The 143 kg mass also means that moving it is a two-person-or-more logistics job normally handled by the delivery crew, not a casual DIY manoeuvre.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Does the SRF9400BFH need plumbing?
Yes. Plumbing is required for its water and ice systems. This is a buying requirement, not an optional convenience setting, so a kitchen without a nearby suitable water connection needs a qualified installation solution before delivery.
What the water connection supports
- The internal Beverage Centre’s auto-fill jug.
- The refrigerator’s water dispensing system.
- The dual ice makers listed in the specification.
Confirm the connection point, shut-off access and hose route with the installer before the appliance arrives. Cabinet backs, kickboards and flooring can make a theoretically nearby pipe unusable. Leave enough access to close the water supply quickly if a leak occurs, and check the connection after installation rather than assuming that a successful first fill proves every joint is dry.
If you rent, live in an apartment or cannot alter cabinetry, the plumbing requirement may rule this model out. Do not buy it on the assumption that the ice makers can simply be left unused; the published product description treats the plumbed water and ice systems as part of the appliance’s design.
What does AI Vision Inside actually do?
Samsung says AI Vision Inside can help identify up to 33 fresh-food items when they are put into or taken out of the refrigerator. The wording matters: this is assistance for a defined set of fresh foods, not a guarantee that the camera will recognise every packaged product, barcode or prepared meal.

How the recognition fits into daily use
The internal camera observes items as they enter or leave. Recognised foods can then support the food-management functions on the Family Hub system. Expect to correct or confirm entries when an item is outside the supported set, is obscured, or is presented in a way the system cannot classify confidently. A camera-based inventory is a convenience layer, not an audited stock ledger.

The practical benefit is greatest for households that routinely forget what is in the refrigerator or want a shared list while shopping. If you already manage food with a paper list or another app and do not want to review camera suggestions, AI Vision Inside adds complexity without necessarily changing your routine.
Are the Family Hub and Samsung Food features useful?
They can be useful, but their value depends on whether the refrigerator’s screen becomes part of your household’s routine. The 21.5-inch display runs Tizen 6.0 and is paired with SmartThings connectivity, a camera, microphone and speaker. Samsung says Samsung Food can create a food list and manage expiry dates.
Food lists and expiry dates
A shared list can reduce duplicated shopping when several people buy groceries. Expiry tracking is more valuable for fresh ingredients than for items with long shelf lives, and it still depends on accurate entries. Treat dates as reminders to check food, not as a substitute for package instructions, storage guidance or your own judgement.

The touchscreen gives the kitchen a large, always-available interface for lists and refrigerator information. SmartThings integration can make sense if your household already uses Samsung’s connected-home platform. If you do not want a screen, microphone or camera in the kitchen, these same components are reasons to choose a simpler appliance rather than features to pay for and ignore.
Beverage Centre, cooling and ice
The internal Beverage Centre includes an auto-fill jug. Triple cooling and a metal cooling duct are listed in the specification, as are dual ice makers. The feature list explains the hardware, but it does not establish how quickly the jug fills, how much ice each maker produces, or how evenly temperatures are maintained under controlled testing; those performance figures are not publicly reported in the available review material.
How much electricity does it use?
The SRF9400BFH carries a 3-star energy label and has a claimed consumption of 569 kWh per year. CHOICE reports that figure in its 2024 review data. It is an annual claim under label test conditions, not a guaranteed reading for every kitchen.
EveryModel estimates approximately A$182 per year using an electricity rate of 32 cents per kilowatt-hour. The arithmetic is 569 kWh multiplied by A$0.32. Your bill will differ with your tariff, controlled-load arrangements, ambient temperature, door-opening habits, food load and the way your retailer presents usage charges. To estimate your own cost, multiply 569 by your all-in rate and replace the result if your retailer’s tariff changes.

Energy cost is especially relevant when comparing this model with a smaller or less feature-heavy refrigerator. A lower purchase price does not automatically mean lower lifetime cost, but the SRF9400BFH’s large capacity and connected hardware should be part of the ownership calculation rather than treated as free extras.
How much does it cost, and what warranty is included?
CHOICE lists the SRF9400BFH at A$5,099 and reports a two-year warranty. Retail listings show the same 24-month manufacturer warranty. The specification sheet and retailer pages also state a 10-year warranty on the Digital Inverter Compressor.
| Cost or warranty item | Published figure | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Listed price | A$5,099 | CHOICE listing; prices and stock can change |
| Standard manufacturer warranty | Two years / 24 months | Shown by CHOICE and retailer listings |
| Digital Inverter Compressor warranty | 10 years | Separate compressor coverage stated in product and retailer material |
A long compressor warranty should not be read as ten years of complete-appliance coverage. Coverage scope, labour, transport, exclusions and regional conditions depend on the warranty document and purchase location. Keep the invoice and serial-number records, and read the local terms before relying on the longer compressor period.
What do independent reviews say about performance and reliability?
The public evidence is incomplete. CHOICE and Consumer NZ expose relevant test categories, but their detailed performance, reliability and satisfaction scores are behind member access. That means there is no publicly verifiable controlled score here for temperature stability, noise, freezer performance or long-term reliability.
Consumer NZ’s page was updated in September 2026, but the publicly visible material still does not provide the member-only numerical results. Do not convert the existence of a test category into a claim that the refrigerator passed or failed it.
ProductReview lists six reviews with an average rating of 2.1 out of 5. One verified owner praises the shopping-list function and self-filling jug, while reporting poor support and an annoying retractable shelf. Six reviews are a small, self-selecting sample rather than a reliability study. They are useful for identifying possible ownership frustrations, not for estimating the failure rate of every SRF9400BFH.
Is the Samsung SRF9400BFH worth it?
It is a reasonable premium choice for a large household that specifically wants connected food management, a built-in screen and plumbed water and ice. It is difficult to justify if your priority is simply maximum cooling capacity at the lowest total cost.

It makes the most sense when you:
- Need 636 L of combined refrigerator and freezer storage.
- Have a suitable water connection and are prepared for professional installation.
- Will use shared food lists, expiry reminders or the SmartThings ecosystem.
- Value the auto-fill jug, two ice makers and a large kitchen display.
- Can absorb a 3-star appliance’s ongoing electricity use and the purchase price.
Choose a conventional French-door model instead when you:
- Do not want a touchscreen, camera, microphone or connected services in the kitchen.
- Cannot provide plumbing or do not want the maintenance and leak risk of a water connection.
- Have tight delivery access, limited ventilation space or narrow cabinetry.
- Prefer a purchase decision supported by publicly available temperature and noise scores.
- Would rather spend the premium on capacity, shelving quality or a lower energy rating.
The central decision is not whether the feature list is impressive; it is whether those features change how your household shops and stores food. A family that actively uses the inventory and list functions can gain convenience. A household that ignores them is paying for hardware that does not improve the basic job of keeping food cold.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow should you compare it with alternatives?
Use the same questions for every large French-door refrigerator rather than comparing headline features in isolation:
- Usable capacity: compare refrigerator and freezer litres separately, not only the combined number.
- Installation envelope: record width, depth, height, door swing and the clearance needed to remove drawers or shelves.
- Water and ice design: establish whether plumbing is mandatory, where the filter sits and how the ice system is serviced.
- Smart usefulness: ask whether food lists, expiry management and a screen solve a real household problem.
- Energy: compare labelled annual kWh and calculate the cost using your own tariff.
- Warranty: separate whole-appliance coverage from compressor-only coverage.
- Evidence: look for independently published temperature, noise and reliability results, not just marketing claims.
On those axes, the SRF9400BFH is differentiated by its connected food-management package and its large 636 L volume. A conventional French-door refrigerator can be the better alternative for buyers who do not value those connected functions, even when it offers fewer headline features.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do before delivery and setup?
- Measure the route. Check the narrowest doorway, hallway turn, lift or stair and the final cavity against the 912 mm width, 723 mm depth and 1,830 mm height. Ask the retailer how the boxed unit will be unpacked and moved.
- Confirm plumbing. Identify the water connection, shut-off valve and hose path. Resolve cabinet or wall obstructions before delivery.
- Check ventilation and opening space. Make sure surrounding cabinetry does not block the required airflow and that all four doors, drawers and the Beverage Centre can open fully.
- Plan the electrical outlet. Keep the plug and isolation point accessible enough for servicing without crushing the cable behind the cabinet.
- Inspect after positioning. Check for transport damage, confirm that doors align and verify that the appliance is stable before loading food.
- Test the water system. Inspect every connection for leaks, run the water system as directed in the manual and discard initial water or ice if the installation instructions require it.
- Connect smart functions deliberately. Set up SmartThings and the Family Hub account only if your household intends to use them, then review camera permissions and shared-list access.
- Calibrate expectations. Add a few known fresh foods first and verify the AI Vision entries before relying on the inventory or expiry reminders.
The exact clearance, levelling and filter procedure should come from the local installation guide because those details can vary by market and installation configuration. Do not improvise a water connection or drill cabinetry without confirming the manufacturer’s requirements.
What are the likely ownership pitfalls?
Recognition is not perfect inventory
AI Vision Inside is described as identifying up to 33 fresh-food items. Unsupported or ambiguous foods may need manual correction, so keep a normal shopping habit for anything the system does not recognise.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Support quality matters
The small ProductReview sample includes a complaint about poor support. That is anecdotal, but it is a reminder to save purchase documents, record the model and serial number and understand the retailer’s escalation path before a problem occurs.
Moving parts can affect satisfaction
One verified owner found the retractable shelf annoying. A shelf mechanism that looks clever in a specification can be inconvenient if it conflicts with the containers you use every day. Examine shelf positions in person when possible and bring the height of your usual bottles or food containers into the decision.

Filters and regional parts
Replacement water filters, including the HAF-QIN/EXP designation mentioned for this model family, should be checked for exact compatibility and local stock before purchase. Do not assume a similarly named filter fits every regional version.
Energy claims are not a fixed bill
The 569 kWh/year figure is useful for comparison, but your tariff and usage determine the amount on your bill. Recalculate when electricity rates change.

What is the final verdict?
The SRF9400BFH is a feature-rich, genuinely large refrigerator whose strongest case is integrated food management rather than cooling hardware alone. Its 636 L capacity, auto-fill jug, dual ice makers and Family Hub interface can suit a busy household with plumbing and room to spare. The same refrigerator is a poor fit for a compact kitchen, a non-plumbed home or anyone who will not use the screen and inventory functions. Because public controlled-test scores are unavailable and owner feedback is limited, buy it for the documented features and dimensions, not for an assumed reliability or temperature-performance advantage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the AI Vision camera recognise every item in my refrigerator?
No. Samsung’s claim is limited to helping identify up to 33 fresh-food items. Packaged, prepared or unusual foods may require manual confirmation, so treat the feature as an assisted list rather than a complete automatic inventory.
Does the 10-year warranty cover the entire refrigerator?
The 10-year figure is stated for the Digital Inverter Compressor, while the listed manufacturer warranty is two years. Check the warranty document for labour, parts, transport and regional exclusions before assuming other components receive the longer coverage.
Which replacement water filter should I buy?
Check the exact model code, the filter designation and your country’s parts catalogue before ordering. The HAF-QIN/EXP name is associated with this product family, but compatibility and stock can vary by region.
Is a 3-star energy label expensive to run?
The label alone does not determine your bill. Use the stated 569 kWh/year as a comparison figure, multiply it by your electricity tariff and allow for local conditions, door openings and household usage.
