Samsung Internet is the stronger fit if you want Android-focused customization, visible tracker controls, Secret Mode, content-blocker support, and video tools. Chrome is the better fit if your browsing revolves around Google services, Chrome on a computer, and Safe Browsing settings. Neither browser has a proven universal edge in speed, battery life, or website compatibility: the available sources do not provide a controlled, same-device comparison.

The practical choice comes down to the features you will use and the devices and accounts you want to connect. Here is what each browser documents, where their controls differ, and how to choose without relying on unsupported performance claims.

What is the difference between Samsung Internet and Chrome?

Both are browsers for everyday web use, but their documented strengths point in different directions. Samsung Internet emphasizes Android controls and add-on features; Chrome emphasizes Google’s account ecosystem and offers clearly documented Safe Browsing protection levels and cookie controls.

That distinction matters more than an unsupported claim that one browser is simply “better.” Samsung’s official materials describe features such as Secret Mode, a built-in tracking blocker, content-blocker extensions, and Video Assistant. Google’s Chrome Help documents Safe Browsing options and controls for cookies. The sources do not establish that either browser wins every comparison category.

Privacy and security controls Secret Mode, a built-in Tracking Blocker, and Protected Browsing warnings are documented by Samsung. Protected Browsing uses Google Safe Browsing with hashed URLs. Google documents Safe Browsing protection levels and controls for deleting, allowing, or blocking third-party cookies.
Ad and content blocking Supports third-party content-blocking apps or filters. Samsung’s documentation does not describe a universal ad filter supplied by Samsung. The cited Chrome materials document Safe Browsing and cookie controls, but not a general-purpose Android extension ad-blocker model equivalent to Samsung’s documented content-blocker path.
Extensions and customization Samsung documents support for third-party extensions. Its product page also lists interface customization, including a movable URL bar and menu. The cited materials establish cookie and Safe Browsing settings, but do not establish an equivalent Android extension or interface-customization feature set.
Video features Samsung’s product page lists Video Assistant. The cited Chrome materials do not establish a directly comparable video feature.
Computer continuity Samsung says bookmarks can be opened in PC Chrome using the Samsung Internet extension after signing in to a Samsung Account. Chrome is the destination browser for that documented Samsung bookmark bridge. The sources reviewed do not establish that every kind of browsing data syncs identically between the two.
Speed, battery, and compatibility No cited controlled, same-device benchmark proves a universal advantage. No cited controlled, same-device benchmark proves a universal advantage.

The table summarizes documented capabilities, not a lab test. Feature availability can depend on the browser version, device, settings, and compatible add-ons. A feature listed by one company is not proof that the other browser lacks every analogous capability; it means the cited official materials substantiate the feature on that side.

Is Samsung Internet safer than Chrome?

There is not enough evidence here to call either browser categorically safer. They document different protections, and the sources do not provide a controlled security comparison or a single score that combines protection, privacy controls, and user configuration.

What Samsung Internet documents

Samsung describes Protected Browsing warnings for malware and phishing, and says the feature uses Google Safe Browsing with hashed URLs. Samsung also documents a built-in Tracking Blocker powered by Disconnect. These are specific protections; neither one is a guarantee that every harmful page or tracking method will be stopped.

Samsung’s Secret Mode is designed to keep selected browsing records off the device’s ordinary browsing history. Samsung says it does not reveal browsing history, search history, cookies, cache, IDs and passwords, or autofill data. Bookmarks and saved pages are stored separately and encrypted using the same level of security as Samsung KNOX. The separation is useful, but it does not mean a website cannot recognize a visitor through information it receives directly.

What Chrome documents

Google says Chrome’s Safe Browsing can warn about malware, abusive sites and extensions, phishing, malicious and intrusive ads, and social-engineering attacks. It documents three choices: Enhanced protection, Standard protection, or no protection. Google describes Enhanced protection as its most secure browsing experience and Standard protection as the default protection against known dangers.

Chrome also lets users delete cookies, allow or block third-party cookies, and set preferences for certain websites. Those controls can reduce or manage some forms of tracking, but cookie settings alone are not a complete privacy system.

How to interpret “safer”

For a decision, identify the threat or control that matters to you instead of treating safety as a single feature. If you want a documented choice of Safe Browsing protection levels, Chrome’s settings are clearly described by Google. If you want a visible tracking control and Samsung’s separate Secret Mode, Samsung Internet documents those features.

Neither private mode makes browsing anonymous from websites, networks, or account providers. A private window or Secret Mode can limit locally retained records, but it should not be confused with hiding your activity from every party involved in a web connection. The official materials describe local-data controls; they do not promise anonymity.

Does Samsung Internet block ads?

Samsung Internet supports content blocking, but the evidence does not support calling it universally ad-free out of the box. Samsung documents a built-in Tracking Blocker and support for third-party extensions; compatible content-blocking apps or filters can supply additional blocking rules.

Samsung’s developer documentation says, “Samsung Internet for Android provides support for 3rd party extensions that let users customize their web browsing experience.” That support is the key distinction: the browser can provide an extension-based route, but a compatible filter or app may be needed to block ads. Blocking can therefore vary according to the add-on and its filter rules.

Chrome’s cited official materials describe Safe Browsing and cookie controls. They do not establish a general-purpose Android extension ad-blocker model equivalent to Samsung’s documented content-blocker path. Safe Browsing warnings about malicious or intrusive ads are a security feature, not proof that Chrome removes ordinary advertising from webpages.

What to check if blocking does not work as expected

  • Confirm that a compatible content-blocking app or filter is installed and enabled; browser support by itself does not guarantee that a filter is active.
  • Check whether the issue is an ad, a tracker, or a website feature that the filter has blocked. Those are different cases and may respond to different filter rules.
  • If a page stops working, temporarily disable the relevant blocker for that site, reload it, and compare the result. If the page works again, the filter may be blocking a required element rather than a conventional ad.

Those steps are a troubleshooting approach, not a promise that every extension offers the same controls or site exceptions. The exact options depend on the compatible app or filter you choose.

Which browser gives you more control over privacy?

Samsung Internet is the clearer choice if you specifically want a visible Android tracking control, a separate private mode, and an extension-based path to content blocking. Chrome is a strong fit if you want Google’s documented Safe Browsing choices and granular cookie controls.

“More control” depends on what you want to control. Samsung’s documentation makes its Tracking Blocker and Secret Mode relevant to trackers and locally stored browsing data. Google’s documentation makes Chrome’s protection levels and cookie settings relevant to threat warnings and third-party cookies. Neither set of controls proves that all tracking stops or that every privacy setting is equivalent between browsers.

For either browser, a useful setup starts with decisions rather than toggling everything indiscriminately: choose a protection level you are comfortable with, decide how you want to handle third-party cookies, and use private browsing only for the local-history distinction it provides. If you add a content filter, review site behavior afterward; a stricter rule can affect page functionality.

Can Samsung Internet sync with a computer?

Samsung documents a specific way to open Samsung Internet bookmarks on a computer: use the Samsung Internet extension for PC Chrome and sign in to a Samsung Account. This is a bookmark bridge, not evidence that browsing history, passwords, open tabs, and every other data type sync in the same way.

That qualification matters if you are choosing a browser based on continuity. The cited Samsung product information supports bookmarks on PC Chrome through its extension. It does not establish full parity with Chrome’s own account-based browser features, nor does it say that all Samsung Internet data becomes available on a computer.

If your main requirement is moving bookmarks between an Android browser and a computer, this documented option may cover it. If you depend on a broader set of synchronized data, confirm that the particular data type and devices you need are supported before making the switch; do not infer it from bookmark support alone.

Which browser is faster or better for battery life?

No cited controlled, same-device benchmark establishes that Samsung Internet is faster, uses less battery, or is more compatible than Chrome. A comparison source also concludes that a universal speed winner cannot be named from the available evidence.

Browser performance is not a fixed property that transfers cleanly between every phone and website. Device, browser version, network, page content, settings, and enabled blockers can all change what a person experiences. A content blocker, for example, changes what the browser loads, so a speed comparison with different blocking settings would not isolate the browser alone.

Samsung describes its product as a “best performing browser on Galaxy,” but its product page does not publish a Samsung-versus-Chrome test result. That marketing phrase is not a controlled comparison and should not be treated as one.

How to make a fair personal comparison

  1. Use the same phone, network, and websites in both browsers. Avoid comparing one browser on Wi-Fi with the other on mobile data.
  2. Keep settings comparable. In particular, note whether a content blocker is active and whether cookie or security settings change page behavior.
  3. Try the pages and tasks that matter to you, such as opening a frequently used site, playing a video, or signing in. Record whether a problem is repeatable rather than judging from one load.
  4. If battery life is the deciding factor, compare over similar use periods and conditions. The cited sources provide no universal battery result to substitute for that test.

This will tell you which browser works better for your own combination of device, network, pages, and settings. It will not prove that the same browser is faster or more efficient on other devices.

Which browser should you choose?

Choose by the work you expect the browser to do. These are the evidence-backed cases for each option.

Choose Samsung Internet if you value

  • Android-focused interface customization, including a movable URL bar and menu.
  • Secret Mode and a built-in Tracking Blocker.
  • Third-party content-blocker support, with the understanding that a compatible app or filter may be needed.
  • Video Assistant and Samsung-listed add-ons such as translation, security, and shopping assistance.
  • The documented bookmark route from Samsung Internet to PC Chrome through Samsung’s extension and a Samsung Account.

Choose Chrome if you value

  • Browsing centered on Google’s account ecosystem and Chrome on a computer.
  • Documented Safe Browsing settings, including Enhanced protection, Standard protection, and no protection.
  • Controls to delete cookies, allow or block third-party cookies, and set preferences for certain websites.

When neither has a proven edge

If your main deciding factor is speed, battery use, or whether a particular site behaves correctly, the available evidence does not settle the question. Try both browsers under the same conditions on your own device. For other criteria, choose the set of documented controls that best matches your priorities rather than expecting one browser to win every category.

What should you consider before switching?

A browser change is more than a new icon. The details that matter are whether your important data and habits carry over and whether the new browser has the controls you actually use.

  • Bookmarks: Samsung documents access to its bookmarks on a computer through a PC Chrome extension after Samsung Account sign-in. Treat that as the specific supported bridge, not proof that all browser data moves with it.
  • Passwords and autofill: Samsung describes what Secret Mode does not expose, but the cited materials do not establish a complete password or autofill migration path between these browsers. Verify how you will access credentials before relying on a switch.
  • Privacy settings: The browsers document different controls. Review the settings you care about in the browser you choose rather than assuming that one browser’s protection level or cookie preference maps directly to the other’s.
  • Extensions and filters: If blocking is essential, confirm that the compatible extension or filter you need is available and enabled. Support for extensions does not mean every extension or filter is available.
  • Site behavior: Test sites that matter to you, especially if you use a blocker. A website that looks different or fails to load may reflect a filter or setting, not necessarily a general compatibility problem with the browser.

These checks help avoid treating “sync,” “privacy,” or “ad blocking” as all-or-nothing features. The official documentation establishes particular features and paths, not automatic equivalence across every data type or use case.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Samsung Internet work only on Samsung phones?

The documented features discussed here are for Samsung Internet for Android, and the PC bookmark option uses an extension for PC Chrome. The available sources do not establish that every feature works on every Android device, so check the current app listing and feature requirements for your device.

Can I install Chrome Web Store extensions in Samsung Internet?

The sources establish Samsung Internet support for third-party extensions, but do not establish compatibility with extensions from the Chrome Web Store. Do not assume that an extension built for one browser can be installed or will behave the same in the other.

Will a content blocker stop every ad in Samsung Internet?

No filter can be assumed to catch every ad or site element. Results depend on the compatible blocker and its rules, and some blocked elements may be needed for a page to work.

Does Chrome’s Safe Browsing make a separate security app unnecessary?

The cited Google material describes warnings against several online threats, but it does not make a claim about whether a user needs other security tools. Safe Browsing should be understood as one browser protection feature, not a complete assessment of device security.
