Samsung’s HW-QS90H is a 7.1.2-channel soundbar that delivers unusually deep, room-filling bass from a single enclosure. Its four integrated woofers, convincing height effects, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support make it a strong choice when you want cinematic sound but do not have space for a subwoofer and rear speakers. The trade-offs are equally clear: no subwoofer or surrounds are included, HDMI passthrough stops at 4K/60Hz, and its stereo image and game mode are not class-leading.
At Samsung’s 2026 US list price of $999.99, the QS90H makes the most sense for film and TV listeners who value bass, height and simple installation. Competitive 4K/120Hz gaming, the widest stereo stage or a genuinely expandable surround system point toward another model.

What is the Samsung HW-QS90H?
The HW-QS90H is Samsung’s 2026 all-in-one flagship-style soundbar. It uses seven main channels, one height layer and four built-in woofers to create a 7.1.2 presentation from one cabinet. Samsung’s UK specification lists 13 speakers in total. Unlike most high-end Atmos packages, the box does not contain a wireless subwoofer or rear speakers.
That design is deliberate rather than an omission. Samsung says the four internal woofers provide deep bass without a separate subwoofer, while its Convertible Fit system lets the same bar sit on furniture or rotate for wall mounting. A gyro sensor detects the orientation and changes driver assignment so the intended channel layout is maintained.

| Specification | HW-QS90H detail |
|---|---|
| Channel layout | 7.1.2 |
| Speaker count | 13 speakers |
| Woofers | Four integrated woofers |
| Included subwoofer | No |
| Included rear speakers | No |
| Object-based formats | Dolby Atmos and DTS:X |
| HDMI connections | One HDMI input and one HDMI eARC output |
| Video passthrough | Up to 4K at 60Hz |

| Voice assistants | Alexa and Google Assistant support |
| Main-bar dimensions | 1,245 x 68.8 x 125 mm |
| Main-bar weight | 6.7 kg |
The 1,245 mm width is close to the width of a 65-inch television. At 68.8 mm tall, it will fit below many displays, but measure the gap between your TV’s feet or panel and the furniture before ordering. Samsung lists security updates through December 31, 2031, giving the network-enabled bar a defined support horizon.
Does the HW-QS90H need a subwoofer?
No. A separate subwoofer is not required, and none is supplied. The four built-in woofers produce substantial low-frequency energy for an all-in-one bar, so explosions, engines and musical bass have physical weight without another box on the floor.
What Hi-Fi? describes the sound as having deep bass that can be felt during action scenes. RTINGS places the QS90H among the stronger performers for low-frequency rumble in its comparison group. That does not make the bar equivalent to a dedicated large subwoofer: a separate cabinet can move more air at the lowest frequencies and gives you more freedom to position bass in the room. The Samsung’s advantage is convenience and a smaller footprint.
Because the bar is a single enclosure, bass remains tied to the location of the TV. Rooms with severe bass nulls or listeners who want club-level sub-bass may still prefer a package with a discrete subwoofer. For apartments, bedrooms and living rooms where cable runs and floor space are limited, the integrated approach is more practical.
How good is the HW-QS90H for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X?
Its height presentation is one of its strongest qualities. The up-firing and front-facing drivers create a broad, elevated field that makes rain, aircraft and room ambience appear above the screen. Independent listening reports describe a big, expansive sound, while RTINGS identifies the Samsung’s height output as a relative strength.
Atmos performance still depends on the room. A reasonably flat ceiling helps reflected height effects reach the seating position; very high, vaulted or heavily absorptive ceilings can make overhead cues less obvious. The bar cannot place sound as precisely as physically separated ceiling or rear speakers, but it produces a convincing overhead impression from one cabinet.

- CERTIFIED REFURBISHED: This manufacturer-refurbished unit shows limited (if any) wear and has been fully tested to deliver the same reliable, like-new performance. It arrives with all essential components and is backed by a 90-day warranty for your peace of mind.
DTS:X support is an important format advantage. Samsung accepts both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, whereas RTINGS’ comparison notes that the Sonos Arc Ultra does not support DTS:X. If your disc player, console or media server contains DTS:X tracks, the QS90H can decode them rather than relying on a downmix or conversion.
How does the HW-QS90H sound with music and ordinary TV?
With film and television, the QS90H favors scale and impact. Dialogue sits clearly in the center, effects spread beyond the cabinet and bass gives soundtracks authority. The presentation is more about immersion than strict two-channel accuracy.
RTINGS reports that Sonos delivers better stereo tracking and a wider soundstage, and that the Samsung’s default balance is weaker than some alternatives. In practical terms, a stereo album can sound less precisely anchored left and right than it does through a bar designed around music imaging. The Samsung remains enjoyable for streamed playlists, especially when you want warmth and fullness, but it is not the obvious pick for a listener whose priority is faithful stereo placement.
Samsung includes a Voice Enhancement mode. What Hi-Fi? found that it makes speech clearer, particularly when a mix is busy, but also less natural. Use it for difficult dialogue or late-night listening; leave it off when voices already sound balanced and you prefer a more cohesive presentation.

Can the HW-QS90H be wall mounted?
Yes. Convertible Fit supports both tabletop and wall placement. When the bar is rotated for wall mounting, its internal gyro sensor detects the new orientation and reassigns drivers to preserve the intended channel arrangement. Expert Reviews reports that the feature works as intended.
Tabletop placement
- Measure the clearance below the TV, allowing for the 68.8 mm bar height and any stand overhang.
- Keep the front of the cabinet unobstructed; a deep shelf or sound-absorbing fabric can reduce clarity and height reflections.
- Center the bar on the screen rather than aligning it to one side of a wide cabinet.
Wall placement
- Use the supplied mounting hardware and follow Samsung’s spacing instructions for your wall type.
- Leave room for the HDMI and power cables so the bar can sit flat without stressing connectors.
- After mounting, run the bar’s setup or calibration process so the system can account for the new position.
The 1,245 mm width works visually with a 65-inch TV, but the fit is not universal. Check the display’s mounting pattern, the wall’s load-bearing capacity and the position of the TV’s own brackets before drilling.

Is the HW-QS90H good for gaming?
It is good for spacious game audio, but its HDMI design limits it for current-generation consoles. The bar has one HDMI input and one eARC output, and passthrough tops out at 4K/60Hz. A console connected through the soundbar cannot pass a 4K/120Hz signal.
For a 4K/60Hz console or a PC targeting 60 frames per second, the input is adequate and the height channels can make atmospheric games feel enveloping. For a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC where 4K/120Hz, variable refresh features or the simplest high-bandwidth chain matter, connect the source directly to a compatible TV and send audio back over eARC, or choose a bar with 4K/120Hz passthrough.
Expert Reviews considers the dedicated game mode underwhelming. It does not transform positional cues enough to offset the connectivity limitation, so treat it as an optional processing mode rather than a reason to buy the product.
What streaming and smart features are included?
The QS90H supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3, plus AirPlay, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect. Those options let you send music from common phone and computer ecosystems without switching inputs on the television. Alexa and Google Assistant support add voice-control options, subject to the assistant account and regional availability.
Network features also make firmware maintenance and multi-room control possible, but they introduce the same setup considerations as any connected speaker: use a stable wireless network, install updates when prompted and keep the bar within reliable range of your router. Samsung’s stated security-update period runs through December 31, 2031.
Can you add rear speakers later?
Yes, but expansion is limited. RTINGS says the QS90H can add two wireless satellite speakers, and Samsung lists the SWA-9500S as the compatible rear-speaker system. Those speakers are optional and are not included with the soundbar.

Adding satellites can improve side and rear envelopment, especially in a large room where a single bar’s reflected effects lose intensity. It does not turn the QS90H into a fully modular home-theater receiver: the system remains tied to Samsung’s compatible wireless ecosystem, and the documented expansion is limited to two satellites. Buyers who already know they want multiple speaker positions should compare the total cost of the bar plus rears with a package that includes them from the start.
How does the HW-QS90H compare with alternatives?
The closest alternatives differ in emphasis rather than simply offering more or less power. RTINGS’ comparison gives the Samsung the low-frequency and DTS/HDMI-input advantages, while identifying a wider stereo image from Sonos and smoother stereo tracking plus 4K/120Hz passthrough from Klipsch.
| Alternative | Documented difference from the HW-QS90H | Who should consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Sonos Arc Ultra | RTINGS reports a wider soundstage and better stereo tracking; it does not support DTS:X. | Listeners prioritizing stereo spaciousness and the Sonos multi-room ecosystem over DTS:X compatibility. |
| Klipsch Flexus Core 300 | RTINGS reports smoother stereo tracking, 4K/120Hz passthrough and a subwoofer output. | Gamers needing 4K/120Hz support or buyers who want a wired subwoofer expansion path. |
The QS90H remains the better fit when integrated bass, strong height effects and DTS:X are more important than maximum gaming bandwidth or the widest stereo stage. A comparison based only on speaker count misses the central choice: Samsung puts more bass and processing inside one cabinet, while the alternatives target different upgrade and imaging priorities.
What does the HW-QS90H cost and where is it available?
Samsung’s US list price is $999.99 for the HW-QS90H/HW-QS90H/ZA, according to Samsung’s 2026 US page. UK references report £799 at What Hi-Fi? and a £899 launch price in AVForums; AVForums records a release date of April 29, 2026. These figures vary by country, retailer and promotion, so check the current price in your region before purchasing.

Who should buy the Samsung HW-QS90H?
Buy it if you want forceful movie bass and convincing Atmos height from one enclosure, have limited room for a subwoofer, or need DTS:X and an HDMI input. It is particularly sensible for a 65-inch-class TV in a room where a clean installation matters more than building a speaker system piece by piece.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the HW-QS90H support 8K video passthrough?
The documented HDMI passthrough specification is up to 4K at 60Hz. The available specifications do not establish 8K passthrough, so 8K sources should be connected directly to a compatible television and audio returned over eARC if your display supports that arrangement.

Yes. Its HDMI eARC connection is a standard way to receive TV audio, and the bar also accepts Bluetooth and network-streaming sources. Some Samsung-specific control conveniences may depend on the television and region, but the core audio formats are not limited to Samsung displays.
How long will Samsung provide security updates for this soundbar?
