Neither feature has been shown to remove background noise more naturally in every situation. Samsung Audio Eraser lets you adjust detected sound categories, while Apple Audio Mix offers scene-oriented mixes for supported videos recorded with Spatial Audio. Official feature descriptions explain how they work, but do not provide a controlled, same-clip sound-quality comparison. The right choice depends on the clip, the controls you need and how much background atmosphere you want to keep.
What is the difference between Samsung Audio Eraser and iPhone Audio Mix?
Both features adjust audio in video, but they give you different ways to approach the edit. Samsung exposes sound categories and lets you adjust them; Apple offers mixes intended for different recording situations. Those differences describe control and purpose—not which result sounds more natural.

Samsung’s Audio Eraser support guide describes the editing workflow and its detection limits. Its April 16, 2026 announcement about the Galaxy S26 series covers a separate playback feature, which should not be confused with editing a clip in Gallery. Apple’s Audio Mix guide describes its available mixes, and its supported-model guidance identifies phones that can record Spatial Audio.
What do the controls actually change?
Audio Eraser and Audio Mix can both make speech easier to hear, but their controls ask you to make different decisions. With Samsung, you begin with what the system believes it has detected in the clip. You can then change the level of a category, such as wind or music, while leaving other categories alone. That is useful when one identifiable source is the problem and you want to preserve the rest of the scene.

Apple’s choices are more about the relationship between a sound source and the camera view or recording style. In-Frame is aimed at voices and sounds coming from outside the visible frame. Studio is designed to reduce background sound and reverb. Cinematic pushes voices forward but retains environmental sound in surround. Standard is the reference point because it leaves the original sound unchanged. The intensity control lets you decide how strongly to apply the selected treatment.
Neither interface is a universal “remove everything behind the speaker” switch. A crowd, traffic, wind and room reflections can overlap the same speech frequencies. If the unwanted sound is mixed with the voice in the original file, reducing it may also change the voice or the sense of space. The most natural result is often a compromise rather than the quietest possible background.
Which feature is more likely to suit my video?
Choose based on the kind of sound you want to change and the options available for that particular clip. A feature’s intended use can help you decide where to start, but it cannot guarantee that the edit will sound natural.
Choose Audio Eraser when you want category-level adjustments
Audio Eraser is useful when you want to target detected sources such as voices, wind or music rather than choose a single scene-oriented mix. For example, if wind is the distracting part of a recording, its category controls give you a direct way to adjust the detected wind while previewing the result. Detection is not infallible: Samsung warns that short sounds may not be detected and ambiguous sounds may be classified incorrectly.
The category approach can also help when the desired balance is specific. You might reduce crowd noise slightly, leave nature sounds intact and preserve a person’s voice. The available labels are generated from the clip, so you may see crowd, nature or general noise in addition to broader categories. If the category you need never appears, there may be no direct slider for that sound in that clip.
Choose Audio Mix when the recording fits one of Apple’s mix intentions
Audio Mix offers a different set of starting points. In-Frame is intended to reduce sounds and voices from sources outside the visible frame; Studio reduces background sounds and reverb; Cinematic brings voices forward while retaining environmental sound in surround. Standard keeps the original sound. These are different treatments, not preset rankings from least to most natural.

For an interview where a passerby is speaking behind the camera, In-Frame is the logical first experiment. For a voice recorded in a reflective room, Studio may be more relevant. For a dramatic scene in which location sound matters, Cinematic may preserve more atmosphere than an aggressive cleanup. The mix names describe goals, so you still need to listen and adjust intensity.
Check the clip, not just the phone name
Apple Audio Mix requires a supported video recorded with Spatial Audio, so owning a compatible iPhone does not by itself establish that every video will have the same controls. Samsung’s options also depend on model and software. Samsung’s US support page uses broad compatibility wording, while the exact availability can depend on model, region, carrier and software. Check the device and the specific clip before planning an edit around either feature.
How do I use Audio Eraser on my Samsung Galaxy?
Open the video in Gallery, let Audio Eraser detect its sounds, then preview and adjust the categories that matter. The names and controls may differ across models and software versions.
- Open the captured video in Gallery. Audio Eraser is a clip-editing workflow, not the same thing as Samsung’s separate real-time playback adjustment.
- Start Audio Eraser and review the detection. Depending on the clip, detected sounds may include voices, wind, music or other sounds; noise may be further labeled as crowd, nature or general noise.
- Listen to the original and Auto result. Compare the sound before applying an edit. Auto is a starting point, not proof that the setting best preserves the character of your recording.
- Adjust the relevant detected categories. Use the available controls to reduce or balance the sounds you want to address, and listen again. If a category is missing or a sound is misidentified, the result may not match your intent.
- Apply the edit and save a copy. Samsung’s support instructions describe saving a copy after applying changes, so you can keep the captured original available for comparison.
Work in small changes rather than moving every control to its maximum. Play the result from the beginning and at the moment where the noise occurs. A setting that sounds impressive during a loud section can make a quiet section feel thin or unnatural. Keeping the original copy also lets you return to a less processed version if the first edit removes too much ambience.

- Open Audio Mix and choose a starting point. Use Standard for the original sound, In-Frame to reduce sources outside the visible frame, Studio to reduce background sounds and reverb, or Cinematic to bring voices forward while retaining environmental sound in surround.
- Adjust the intensity and listen. The mix name describes its purpose, not how strongly it should be applied to every recording. Judge the result on the actual video.
- Keep the scene’s purpose in mind. If the surroundings help tell the story, reducing them too much may undermine the recording even if the voice becomes clearer.
Apple’s supported-model information identifies iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air as supporting Spatial Audio recording. Model eligibility and recording format both matter; consult Apple’s supported-model page and check whether Audio Mix appears for the clip you want to edit.
A video sent by another person is not automatically eligible or ineligible because of the transfer. What matters is the recording format and whether Photos recognizes the clip as supported. If Audio Mix is absent, confirm how and on which device the video was recorded before assuming that an editing error is responsible.
What is the difference between editing a clip and real-time playback?
Samsung uses the Audio Eraser name for more than one experience. The Gallery workflow analyzes a captured video, lets you preview changes and saves an edited copy. Samsung’s April 16, 2026 Galaxy S26 announcement separately describes real-time adjustment during media playback in select apps. That playback feature includes controls for reduction strength and Voice Focus, but support depends on the model and operating-system version.
Real-time playback is not evidence that a saved Gallery edit will behave identically. The source is different: one feature processes media as you watch it, while the other processes a captured clip for export or sharing. App support also matters for playback. Do not promise that every audio or video app, or every Galaxy phone, will show the real-time controls.
Apple’s documented Audio Mix path is an editing workflow in Photos. The comparison should therefore label whether it is testing saved-video edits, playback processing or both. Mixing those scenarios can make a phone appear to win simply because the tasks are not the same.
How can I compare which one sounds more natural?
Naturalness is a listening judgment, not a published score for either feature. To compare them fairly, use the same original material where both workflows permit it, change one treatment at a time, and judge the result at a moderate setting before trying stronger reduction.

Use clips that reveal different weaknesses
- Speech with steady background noise: This helps you hear whether noise is reduced while speech remains clear.
- Speech with changing noise: A changing background makes it easier to notice whether the treatment follows the sound smoothly or becomes distracting.
- Speech with useful ambience: Include a clip where the environment contributes to the scene, so you can judge whether the treatment removes too much context.
- Off-camera voices: A person speaking outside the frame is a meaningful test for In-Frame, while a clip with distinct wind or music can reveal whether category controls help on Samsung.
- Short, sudden sounds: A brief cough, clap or passing vehicle can show whether detection misses transient events, especially on Audio Eraser.
Keep the comparison controlled
- Start with the same source clip on both devices when both features accept it. Apple’s Spatial Audio requirement may prevent a particular video from being eligible for Audio Mix.
- Listen to the unedited original first, then compare each feature’s result with that reference.
- Begin with Auto or moderate intensity rather than immediately choosing the strongest reduction.
- Use the same listening setup and volume for both outputs, and keep device and software versions with your notes.
- Listen once for speech clarity and again for ambience, reverb and unwanted processing. A single quick impression can overlook changes in the room sound.
- Record what you hear: remaining noise, changed voices, lost ambience or other processing artifacts. If you publish a verdict, identify it as a listening test and describe the clips and conditions instead of presenting it as a lab measurement.
A clip that sounds cleaner may still sound less natural if voices or environmental details change noticeably. Another listener may prefer that trade-off. Without disclosed same-clip listening results, neither the feature descriptions nor the controls alone settle which tool sounds better.
Why might the result sound unnatural or leave noise behind?
Neither tool promises perfect removal, and the source recording limits what an edit can achieve. A sound may be missed, misidentified or difficult to separate from the voice or ambience you want to preserve.
- The sound is brief: Samsung warns that short sounds may not be detected, so a momentary noise may remain untreated.
- Sources overlap: When a voice and distracting sound are difficult to distinguish, a category adjustment or mix may affect more than the unwanted noise.
- The setting is too strong for the scene: Listen for voices that seem altered or surroundings that have lost important detail. Reduce the intensity or compare with the original.
- The clip is ineligible: On iPhone, a video that was not recorded with Spatial Audio may not offer the same Audio Mix controls. On Samsung, options vary with model and software.
- The target is not available as a control: Audio Eraser works with detected categories; if the sound is classified incorrectly or is not listed, the adjustment may not target it as intended.
- Room reverb is part of the voice: Reducing reflections can improve intelligibility, but excessive treatment can make the speaker sound dry or processed.
- Ambience is part of the story: Applause, traffic, birds or a venue’s sound may be intentional. Removing them can make the recording feel disconnected even when dialogue is clearer.
Does either feature require a new phone or extra equipment?
Neither built-in workflow requires a separate microphone. A phone-compatible microphone can improve the original capture in a noisy environment, but it is an optional recording accessory, not a requirement for Audio Eraser or Audio Mix. Better source audio may leave both tools less work to do, yet an accessory does not guarantee a natural result.
Buying a new phone solely for this comparison also requires caution. The Galaxy S26 family is directly associated with Samsung’s documented real-time playback expansion, while supported iPhone models provide the Audio Mix path for qualifying Spatial Audio recordings. The feature comparison by itself does not establish that an upgrade is worthwhile. Before spending money, verify the exact model, operating-system version, region, carrier availability and the type of videos you actually record. A less expensive supported phone you already own may be sufficient for your clips.
Prices, promotions and regional availability change, so a purchase decision should be based on a live listing and your broader camera and editing needs, not on an assumed naturalness ranking.
What should I check when Audio Eraser or Audio Mix is missing?
- Confirm the model and software. Feature availability can differ among Galaxy models and software versions, and Samsung cautions that regional and carrier differences may apply.
- Confirm the recording format. Audio Mix is tied to supported Spatial Audio video. A compatible iPhone can still contain clips that do not qualify.
- Open the correct app. Gallery Audio Eraser, Samsung’s playback controls and Apple’s Photos Audio Mix are separate workflows.
- Try the original clip. Re-encoded, exported or otherwise altered files may not expose the same controls as the original capture; check whether the option appears on the source video.
- Keep a copy before editing. Preview first and preserve the original so you can compare or make a less aggressive version.
Does either feature have a proven naturalness advantage?
No. The official material describes controls and eligibility, not a controlled comparison of sound quality. A defensible winner would require the same eligible source clips, matched listening conditions, identified device and software versions, and disclosed judgments about both noise reduction and preservation of voices and ambience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Audio Eraser or Audio Mix restore speech that was covered by loud noise?
Neither feature is described as reconstructing lost speech or recovering details that were not captured clearly. If important dialogue is masked or clipped in the original recording, keep the original and assess any edited version carefully rather than assuming noise reduction can restore it.
Can I use iPhone Audio Mix on a video sent to me by someone else?
The key condition is whether the video is supported and was recorded with Spatial Audio, not simply who owns the phone now. A transferred clip may still lack the recording format Audio Mix requires, so check whether the control appears in Photos.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDoes Samsung’s real-time Audio Eraser feature work on any audio playing on a Galaxy phone?
Samsung’s April 16, 2026 announcement describes real-time adjustment for the Galaxy S26 series in select apps, with availability depending on model and OS version. It does not establish support for every app or every Galaxy device.
Which iPhone Audio Mix setting removes the most background noise?
Apple describes different purposes rather than a strongest-to-weakest ranking. In-Frame targets sources outside the visible frame, Studio reduces background sounds and reverb, and Cinematic brings voices forward while retaining environmental sound. Choose the mix that matches the scene, then adjust intensity by ear.
Why can’t I find Audio Mix on an iPhone video?
Audio Mix requires a supported video recorded with Spatial Audio. Check the iPhone model, software and the clip’s recording format. A video recorded on an ineligible device or without Spatial Audio may not show the controls in Photos.
Can Samsung Audio Eraser remove a short click or passing noise?
It may not. Samsung warns that short sounds might not be detected, and ambiguous sounds can be misidentified. Preview the result and compare it with the original rather than assuming every brief event will be removed.

Is a microphone required for either feature?
No. Both are built-in phone workflows. An external phone-compatible microphone is optional and may improve the source recording, but neither Audio Eraser nor Audio Mix requires one.
Should I buy a new Galaxy or iPhone just for background-noise removal?
Not on the feature names alone. Verify exact model, software, region, carrier and clip requirements first. The available information does not prove that either platform will sound more natural for every recording or that an upgrade will justify its cost.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Samsung Audio Eraser is the more explicit category-adjustment workflow, while iPhone Audio Mix offers scene-based mixes for qualifying Spatial Audio videos. Neither has a proven universal naturalness advantage. Compare the same clips at moderate settings, keep the originals, and choose the result that preserves the voices and atmosphere your video needs.
