If Samsung Audio Eraser makes a video sound muffled, metallic, thin or distorted, do not overwrite the source. In Gallery, compare the result with Hear original, reduce or change the sound-category adjustments, and use Save copy for each attempt. Audio Eraser classifies parts of a soundtrack and changes their levels; it can remove wanted speech, music or ambience when sounds overlap or are classified incorrectly. Samsung warns that short sounds may be missed, ambiguous sounds may be assigned to a similar category, and accuracy is not guaranteed. If the untouched file is gone, Samsung’s published guidance does not establish a way to reconstruct detail that processing removed.
What should I do first when Audio Eraser makes my video worse?
Stop editing the only remaining copy and return to the original file if it is available. The safest repair is a new, lighter edit made from that untouched source, not repeated processing of an already processed export.

- Keep the source. In Gallery, leave the original video unchanged. Samsung’s workflow uses Save copy so the edited version is written as a separate file.
- Open the edit and compare. Play the same speech, music or noisy section, then tap Hear original to switch between the source and the adjusted sound.
- Back off the change. Reduce the category slider that is removing wanted sound, or turn that category off. Try Auto only as a starting point; Samsung does not say that Auto is best for every recording.
- Save another copy. Use a distinct filename or the Gallery copy option, then listen to the new file outside the editor as well.
For a fair comparison, listen for speech consonants such as “s,” “f” and “t,” the beginning and end of words, music transients, room ambience and wind. Those listening checks help reveal what was removed; they are not a Samsung diagnostic test.
How does Samsung Audio Eraser change the soundtrack?
Audio Eraser analyzes a video’s soundtrack, estimates categories such as voices, music, wind and other noise, and lets you reduce or enhance those categories. The exact labels and controls depend on the Gallery or video-editor version on your device.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

This is a classification-and-adjustment process rather than a simple volume knob. If a voice shares characteristics with “noise,” or an instrument overlaps the category being reduced, the same adjustment can lower wanted detail. A muffled or unnatural result therefore does not by itself prove a hardware fault or a universal software bug. It is consistent with an imperfect classification of a particular recording.
Samsung’s US support wording says, “sounds with a short duration may not be detected, and ambiguous sounds may be misidentified as other sounds with similar characteristics.” Samsung also states on its support material that accuracy of results is not guaranteed and that outcomes vary with the source and condition of the video.

Change one category at a time and use Hear original after each adjustment. That makes it possible to identify the control that is taking away useful sound.
When speech sounds muffled
- Reduce the amount of noise or wind reduction first; these categories can overlap with consonants and quiet speech.
- Compare a sentence containing both loud and soft words. If the soft words disappear, the reduction is too strong for that section.
- Leave voice enhancement at a modest level if the control is available. Excessive enhancement can make voices nasal or artificial.
When music becomes thin or pumping
- Lower the reduction applied to music or “other” sounds rather than trying to remove all background material.
- Check a section with a beat, cymbal or acoustic attack. Those short transients are the kinds of sounds Samsung says may not be detected reliably.
- Compare Auto with a manual setting, then keep the version that preserves the musical detail you actually need.
When the result is metallic, warbling or distorted
- Undo the strongest category change and preview again. A metallic character often means too much of a shared or overlapping sound group was altered, although Samsung does not identify a single confirmed cause for every distorted clip.
- Try a smaller adjustment over the whole clip instead of a maximum setting.
- Save a fresh copy from the original rather than stacking another Audio Eraser pass on the distorted file.
When unwanted noise remains
Do not assume the remaining sound belongs to the category you selected. A brief click, a changing crowd sound or an ambiguous mechanical noise may be classified differently. Test the available categories separately and accept a partial reduction if removing more noise also removes speech or music.
Can an already processed video be restored?
If the original video still exists, redo the edit from it. If only the processed file remains, Samsung’s cited documentation does not provide a universal undo method that restores detail discarded during processing.

Gallery’s Save copy approach is important because it preserves a clean source for another attempt. An “undo” inside the current editing session can revert changes made before saving, but it is not the same as recovering an earlier, untouched file after you have replaced it. Check your Gallery, cloud backup or the folder where the camera stored the original before assuming it is gone.

Do not repeatedly convert or export the damaged copy while trying to repair it. Each new encode can introduce additional quality loss, and Samsung community guidance specifically warns that repeated compression or conversion can reduce Audio Eraser performance when that file is processed.
Could the original recording itself be the reason Audio Eraser fails?
Possibly, but the file conditions below are contributors rather than a diagnosis of your particular clip. Samsung community-manager guidance says the feature is optimized for actual raw footage and that performance may deteriorate when audio has already been edited or mixed, has gone through repeated compression or conversion, or comes from very long footage.
| Source condition | Why separation can be difficult | Best next action |
|---|---|---|
| Already edited or mixed audio | Categories may be blended before Audio Eraser receives the file, leaving less distinct information to separate. | Use the camera-original file and make one light pass. |
| Repeated compression or conversion | Encoders can smear short details and create artifacts that resemble other sound categories. | Avoid another conversion; return to the earliest available source. |
| Very long video | Samsung community guidance identifies long footage as a condition in which performance may deteriorate. | Make a copy containing only the needed segment and test that segment. |
| Short sound events | Samsung says short sounds may not be detected. | Do not expect every click, transient or brief voice to be isolated. |
| Ambiguous sounds | Samsung says sounds can be misidentified as another category with similar characteristics. | Use lower-strength settings and preserve more of the original mix. |
These limitations explain why the same control can sound acceptable on one recording and damaging on another. They do not prove that any one condition caused your result.

- Open Audio, Audio eraser or the current Galaxy AI audio-editing entry.
- Choose Auto or adjust the available sound categories manually.
- Tap Hear original to compare the untouched soundtrack with the proposed edit.
- Apply the adjustment and choose Save copy, not an option that overwrites your only source.
If your labels differ, follow the equivalent audio-editing control in your version rather than assuming the feature has been removed. Samsung documents more than one regional workflow, and the entry point can move as software is updated.
Why can the controls or Audio Eraser option be missing?
Availability is not governed by one worldwide model-and-version rule. Samsung’s US support page describes the feature on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 or higher. Samsung Canada’s video-editing documentation lists S and Z series beginning with S24 on One UI 7.0 or later. Those pages have different regional scopes and may reflect software changes over time.
Samsung says feature availability can vary by device model, region, operating-system or One UI version, and carrier. Treat neither regional threshold as a complete global compatibility list.
- Install the latest software update offered for your device.
- Update Gallery or the relevant Samsung video-editing component through the device’s normal app-update path.
- Check the Samsung support page for your country and exact model.
- Confirm that the feature is being used in a supported Gallery or editor workflow; another Samsung app may expose different controls.
If an update makes the controls appear but the output still sounds poor, the availability issue and the audio-quality issue are separate. A supported device does not guarantee accurate separation for every source file.

The whole clip is quieter or duller
Switch to Hear original at the same point and lower the category that was reduced most aggressively. If the change affects speech and ambience together, accept less noise removal instead of trying to restore brightness with a stronger enhancement.
Only a short word, clap or click disappeared
That may fit Samsung’s warning that short-duration sounds can go undetected. A different setting may preserve the surrounding track, but there is no documented control that guarantees recovery of every missed transient.
One speaker sounds acceptable and another sounds robotic
Different voices can share different acoustic characteristics with the categories being adjusted. Compare both speakers before choosing a compromise setting, and save a copy that preserves intelligibility for the quieter or more important speaker.
Background music pumps in and out
Reduce the music or other-sound adjustment and test a section where the music changes volume. If the soundtrack was already mixed, export the video from the earliest source available and avoid another round of compression.
The editor crashes, refuses to analyze or shows no result
First check storage space, restart Gallery and try a short copy of the clip. Then update the device and confirm model and regional support. Samsung’s published material does not identify a universal crash fix, so a repeatable failure should be reported through Samsung support with the model, One UI version and a description of the source file’s history.

How can I avoid making future recordings harder to process?
Capture and preserve the cleanest source you can. Keep the camera-original file before sending it through messaging apps, social platforms or multiple editors, because those services may convert or compress the audio. For long recordings, make a working copy of the relevant section before experimenting, while retaining the full original separately.
- Save the camera file before applying any enhancement.
- Make one adjustment pass, listen, and save a copy.
- Keep both the original and the accepted edited version.
- Use headphones or speakers to monitor the result, but remember that monitoring changes what you hear; it cannot restore deleted detail.
- Do not buy a new phone or external audio accessory expecting it to repair an already processed file. Such equipment may help future capture or listening, not reverse Audio Eraser’s output.
When should I stop trying to improve the clip?
Stop when another reduction removes words, musical attacks or important ambience faster than it removes unwanted noise. Audio Eraser is a selective adjustment tool, not a guaranteed restoration system. A natural recording with some background noise is often more useful than a heavily processed file whose speech is clear only at the cost of metallic artifacts.

Your practical decision is therefore simple: keep the untouched source, compare every change with Hear original, make the lightest adjustment that solves the problem, and save the result as a copy. If the source is unavailable, preserve the current file and do not promise yourself that Samsung’s documented workflow can reconstruct what was lost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Samsung Audio Eraser work on every Galaxy phone?
No. Samsung describes support as dependent on the model, region, carrier and Android or One UI version. The US and Canadian support pages list different scopes, so the support page for your country and exact device is the authoritative check.
Will clearing Gallery’s cache restore the original audio?
There is no Samsung guidance in the cited material saying that clearing cache reconstructs processed sound. Cache maintenance may address an app problem, but it is not a documented audio-recovery method; locate the original file or backup instead.
Can I use Audio Eraser on a video sent to me through a messaging app?
You can try if the feature accepts the file, but a messaging service may have already compressed or converted its soundtrack. Samsung community guidance identifies repeated compression or conversion as a condition that can reduce performance, so the camera-original file is preferable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhy does the same Audio Eraser setting sound different on two videos?
The tool analyzes each soundtrack and assigns sounds to categories. Differences in recording mix, duration, compression history and overlapping voices or music can change what the classifier removes, and Samsung does not claim one setting works best for every clip.
