The Ryzen 7 8845HS is the safe, documented choice today: AMD lists it as an 8-core, 16-thread processor with boost clocks up to 5.1 GHz, 24 MB of cache, Radeon 780M integrated graphics and a 35–54 W default TDP. The Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 is not an AMD-confirmed shipping product. October 2026 reports describe a leak claiming the same 8-core/16-thread layout, 24 MB of L3 cache and a 16-compute-unit Radeon 890M, but its clocks, power range, benchmark performance, price and availability remain unknown.
That makes the comparison uneven. HX 455 could have the stronger integrated GPU, while no responsible CPU or battery-life winner can be declared before independently tested laptops appear. If you need a laptop now, choose a well-reviewed Ryzen 7 8845HS system; treat HX 455 as a possible future option rather than a product you can reliably buy or benchmark.

Is the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 a real, shipping processor?
Not according to AMD’s published product information available for this comparison. The Ryzen 7 8845HS is an established Ryzen 8040-series mobile processor, while the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 has only appeared in October 2026 leak reports attributed to Golden Pig Upgrade and covered by VideoCardz and ComputerBase.
VideoCardz’s report states: “AMD has not officially confirmed the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455.” That wording matters. A leaked model name and specification can change, be cancelled, or describe an engineering sample rather than a retail chip. There is no confirmed OEM laptop, launch date, regional availability, price or independent test result for HX 455 in the available evidence.

For practical buying decisions, separate three levels of information:
- Confirmed and shipping: Ryzen 7 8845HS, with specifications published by AMD and laptops available from manufacturers and retailers.
- Reported but unconfirmed: Ryzen AI 7 HX 455, including the claimed 8 cores, 16 threads, 24 MB of L3 cache and 16-CU Radeon 890M.
- Not established: HX 455 clock speeds, sustained wattage, NPU capability, laptop designs, battery runtime, gaming frame rates, pricing and final retail branding.
Any article or listing that presents HX 455 as a currently shipping, tested processor is going beyond what has been confirmed. Its status should be checked again when AMD publishes a product page or an OEM announces a laptop that can actually be purchased.

The shared core and thread count is useful context, but it does not make the processors equivalent. Clock behavior, architecture, memory support, firmware and power limits determine real performance. Conversely, the four additional reported graphics compute units do not guarantee a fixed frame-rate gain.
Is Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 faster than Ryzen 7 8845HS?
There is no defensible percentage answer yet. Both are reported or confirmed as 8-core, 16-thread mobile processors, but HX 455 has no published clock speeds and no independent tests. The 8845HS has a documented maximum boost of 5.1 GHz and a 3.8 GHz base clock, yet even those figures do not predict the sustained speed of a particular laptop.
Why core count alone cannot settle the CPU comparison
A mobile processor may briefly reach its advertised boost clock when temperature and power headroom permit, then settle at a lower all-core frequency during a long render or compile. Cooling capacity, fan policy, chassis thickness, memory configuration and the manufacturer’s selected power profile all affect that behavior. Two laptops with the same 8845HS can therefore produce different multi-core scores.
Recommended Free Tools
HX 455 belongs to the newer Ryzen AI 400 family according to the leak reports, which could bring architectural or efficiency changes, but the available evidence does not quantify them. Without a retail BIOS, final drivers and repeatable tests, it is impossible to know whether HX 455 is faster, similar or slower in single-core work, sustained multi-core workloads or application-specific tasks.
What a fair CPU test would need to measure
When HX 455 laptops become available, compare complete systems rather than processor names. Useful measurements include:
- Short single-core tests, which reveal burst responsiveness and peak boost behavior.
- Long multi-core loops lasting at least 20–30 minutes, showing whether cooling can sustain performance after the initial boost period.
- Real workloads such as video export, code compilation, 3D rendering and large file compression.
- Noise and surface-temperature readings at the same time as performance results.
- Identical or clearly documented memory capacity, channel configuration and speed.
Until those results exist, claims that HX 455 is “30 percent faster” or any other specific amount are speculation. The only sound CPU conclusion is that the 8845HS is measurable now and HX 455 is not.
Which processor has the better integrated graphics?
HX 455 has the more promising specification on paper. The leak reports claim a Radeon 890M with 16 compute units, compared with the 12 graphics cores in the Radeon 780M integrated into the 8845HS. More compute units can provide more shader throughput, so HX 455 could deliver higher frame rates and faster GPU-accelerated creator workloads when both systems have comparable power and memory.

That is an expectation, not a measured result. Integrated graphics share system memory and draw power from the same thermal budget as the CPU. Memory speed and whether the laptop uses one or two memory channels can materially change performance. A thin HX 455 laptop restricted to a conservative wattage may lose to a better-cooled 8845HS laptop running its graphics at a higher sustained power level.
What the 16-CU figure does and does not tell you
Compute-unit count indicates the scale of the graphics engine, but not its exact clock, architecture, driver maturity or usable bandwidth. The reported 890M name also does not establish a universal gaming result. Notebookcheck’s Radeon 890M database shows materially different outcomes among laptops, illustrating why an integrated-GPU label cannot predict every system’s frame rate.
For a meaningful comparison, look for the same game, resolution, quality preset, upscaling setting and power mode. Record average and one-percent-low frame rates, because an apparently high average can still feel uneven if frame-time consistency is poor. Note whether the test uses 16 GB or 32 GB of memory and whether that memory is soldered, since those choices are especially relevant to an iGPU.
Can either processor handle gaming without a dedicated GPU?
Both are intended to make gaming without a discrete graphics card possible, but the experience depends on the laptop configuration and the games you choose. The 8845HS’s Radeon 780M is a known integrated GPU; the reported 890M would have four more compute units, making HX 455 the more attractive candidate for higher settings or frame rates if the leak is accurate.
What to expect from an 8845HS laptop
Use the Radeon 780M for esports titles, older games and many modern games at sensible settings, but check laptop-specific reviews before assuming a target frame rate. Lowering resolution or using an in-game upscaler can reduce the graphics workload. A laptop with fast, dual-channel memory and a generous sustained power profile will usually make better use of the 780M than a similarly named model with restricted memory or cooling.
What to expect from a future HX 455 laptop
The claimed 16-CU Radeon 890M could improve minimum frame rates or allow a higher quality preset, yet there is no verified game list or frame-rate range to quote. Early driver releases, firmware limits and different memory designs could make launch systems vary widely. Wait for independent tests of the exact laptop, not just a retailer specification, before buying for a particular game.
When a dedicated GPU is still the better choice
A discrete GPU remains the safer route for demanding modern games, high-refresh 1440p play, ray-tracing workloads or serious 3D production. Integrated graphics are attractive when low weight, lower cost, quieter operation and longer unplugged use matter more than maximum rendering speed. The processor comparison cannot remove that broader trade-off.
Which processor offers better battery life?
Neither can be declared the battery-life winner from the available specifications. Battery runtime is a property of the complete laptop, not just the CPU model. Battery capacity, display size and refresh rate, panel brightness, memory, storage, wireless hardware, firmware, cooling and the selected operating mode can outweigh the difference between processor generations.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe 8845HS has a published default TDP range of 35–54 W, but TDP is not a promised battery draw or a runtime figure. It describes a processor power target that manufacturers can configure within a broader platform design. HX 455’s power range has not been reported, so even a basic efficiency comparison is premature.
How to compare runtime numbers fairly
Use reviews that identify the battery capacity and run the same standardized test. Check whether the result is measured at a fixed brightness, with a particular wireless setting and a defined browser or video workload. A 70-Wh battery and a 50-Wh battery cannot be compared fairly by hours alone, and a high-resolution OLED panel may consume more power than a lower-resolution LCD panel in the same chassis.
Also distinguish light-use runtime from sustained workloads. Video playback can keep a modern laptop efficient, while compiling code, exporting video or gaming will drain either machine much faster. Look for charging time and low-battery behavior as well as the headline runtime, especially if the laptop will be used away from an outlet.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do power limits and cooling change the result?
Mobile chips are configurable parts. A manufacturer can allow a processor to run near its upper power range in a thicker chassis, or choose a quieter and cooler profile in a thin model. The first design may score better in long CPU and GPU tests but use more energy and produce more fan noise.

For the 8845HS, AMD’s 35–54 W default TDP range gives reviewers a documented reference, not a guarantee that every laptop uses 54 W. HX 455’s value is unknown, so leaked performance assumptions are especially risky. A laptop maker could prioritize battery life, acoustic comfort or peak benchmark scores, producing very different HX 455 results from one model to another.
Questions to ask in a laptop review
- What sustained CPU package power is recorded after the first few minutes?
- Does the laptop maintain the same power profile on battery and on its charger?
- Are CPU and integrated GPU sharing a clearly stated thermal budget?
- What fan noise and surface temperatures accompany the performance numbers?
- Can the user select a quiet, balanced or performance mode, and does that alter the test result?
These details explain why a processor comparison based only on model names can mislead. The chassis is part of the processor’s real-world specification.
What should you buy today?
Choose a Ryzen 7 8845HS laptop if you need a known product, documented specifications and reviews you can read before paying. Focus on the exact model’s memory configuration, cooling, screen and battery rather than assuming every 8845HS machine performs identically.
Consider waiting for a Ryzen AI 400 laptop only if you are comfortable with uncertain launch timing and want to evaluate the newer platform when AMD and an OEM publish complete specifications. Do not pay a premium for an HX 455 listing that cannot provide a manufacturer product page, a shipping date and independent testing.

When the comparison shifts from specifications to buying, search for a “Ryzen 7 8845HS laptop” and evaluate the complete machine. For HX 455, wait until AMD confirms the processor and a manufacturer lists a laptop that is actually available in your region.
How can you evaluate an HX 455 laptop if one appears?
Use a verification checklist rather than accepting a leaked specification as proof. The following steps help separate a real retail system from an inaccurate listing.
- Check the manufacturer’s support page. Confirm that the exact model number has a BIOS, driver package and manual published by the laptop maker.
- Verify the processor in firmware or software. A review should show the processor identification reported by the operating system or a trusted diagnostic utility, not just a retailer title.
- Record memory details. Note capacity, channel configuration and speed because integrated graphics use system memory.
- Check the battery and display. Write down watt-hours, panel resolution, refresh rate and brightness used in runtime tests.
- Look for sustained tests. Require long CPU loops and repeatable game benchmarks, with power mode and charger state disclosed.
- Compare several reviews. One sample can have an unusually strong or weak cooling solution; a pattern across systems is more informative.
- Confirm local warranty and return terms. A new processor generation may have limited regional support during its first listings.
Until those checks pass, treat the model as a rumor or pre-release listing, not as an established alternative to the 8845HS.
What is the clearest difference between these processors?
The clearest documented difference is status: the 8845HS is an AMD-confirmed, shipping processor, while HX 455 remains an unconfirmed report. The clearest potential hardware difference is graphics scale, with a reported 16-CU Radeon 890M versus the 12-graphics-core Radeon 780M in the 8845HS.
Everything that matters for a purchase—CPU speed, sustained power, battery runtime, game frame rates, price and availability—still requires a real HX 455 laptop and independent testing. That evidence gap is more important than the leaked model number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Ryzen AI 7 HX 455 include a stronger NPU than the 8845HS?
The available HX 455 reports do not state an NPU performance figure, and the 8845HS specifications cited here do not provide a comparable NPU benchmark. Wait for AMD’s final product documentation before choosing either processor for a specific local-AI workload.
Will every laptop with a Radeon 890M perform the same?
No. Integrated graphics share system memory and a laptop’s thermal budget, so memory speed, channel configuration, firmware and cooling can produce large differences. Compare tests from the exact laptop model you plan to buy.
Can I upgrade the graphics later on an 8845HS or HX 455 laptop?
The integrated GPU is built into the processor and is not a replaceable module. Some laptops support an external GPU through a high-speed port, but that depends on the chassis and port implementation rather than the processor name.
What evidence would confirm that HX 455 is ready to buy?
Look for an AMD product listing, an OEM laptop announcement with a shipping date, and independent reviews that verify the processor and measure sustained CPU, graphics and battery performance. A retailer page or leak by itself does not establish those facts.
