Jagex has officially announced three new skills for RuneScape: Dragonwilds: Prayer, Hunter and Slayer. Prayer is scheduled to arrive with the Luminance update in December 2026. Hunter is planned for early 2027 as part of Song of Rebellion, the opening chapter of the Blood Crystal Saga. Slayer is confirmed for a future quarterly update, but Jagex has not announced a release month or quarter.
What are the three new Dragonwilds skills?
The announced skills are Prayer, Hunter and Slayer. Jagex has confirmed their names and broad roadmap placement, but has not yet published detailed skill mechanics, level requirements, recipes, resource tables or reward lists. That means their roles can be described from the announcement, while specific training methods and progression builds remain unconfirmed.

Jagex presented the skills as an extension of RuneScape’s familiar progression model into Ashenfall’s open-world survival and crafting setting. Until the studio publishes mechanics, comparisons such as combat versus gathering, resource costs or solo and co-op advantages would be speculation.
When is Prayer coming to Dragonwilds?
Prayer is scheduled for December 2026 with the Luminance update. Jagex described Luminance as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga, so it is positioned as the next major content step before the 2027 storyline begins.

The announcement does not state whether Prayer will use shrines, consumables, combat buffs, defensive effects or another system. Players should therefore treat December as the announced target for the skill’s update, not as a promise of particular abilities or training locations.
Is Hunter coming with the next saga?
Yes. Hunter is planned for early 2027 alongside Song of Rebellion, the opening chapter of the Blood Crystal Saga. Jagex says this chapter will add iconic enemies and wildlife such as Moss Giants, Kebbits and Implings, as well as new areas, quests, gear and house decorations inspired by Prifddinas.
Those named creatures establish the setting for Hunter, but Jagex has not said which can be tracked, captured or harvested, nor whether Hunter will primarily produce food, materials, equipment components or other rewards. The skill’s exact loop will need to wait for a systems reveal or the update’s release notes.

When will Slayer release?
Slayer is confirmed for a future quarterly update, but it is currently undated. Jagex has not supplied a month, quarter or named update for it, so any claim that Slayer is coming with Luminance or Song of Rebellion goes beyond the published roadmap.
Its name suggests a task-driven combat progression in the RuneScape tradition, yet Dragonwilds-specific targets, unlocks and rewards have not been announced. The safest expectation is simply that Slayer remains part of the post-launch plan rather than an imminent feature with a fixed launch window.
Why do three new skills matter after version 1.0?
RuneScape: Dragonwilds launched version 1.0 on 15 September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Jagex said the game had already passed one million Early Access sales. Adding skills after launch expands the progression ceiling and gives existing worlds reasons to support new gathering, crafting, combat and co-op routines.

Jagex’s earlier developer update also said version 1.0 would not end development. The studio described Dragonwilds as a multi-year journey with more skills, quests, regions, bosses, enemies and rewards planned. The three announced skills are therefore part of a continuing content program, not a final post-launch bundle.
At RuneFest 2026, attended by more than 6,000 fans according to Jagex, Executive Producer Jesse America said the community had been at the heart of Dragonwilds from day one. Community Manager Mod Dutch described the game as continuously evolving, reinforcing that the roadmap is intended to grow beyond the launch feature set.
What else is planned for Dragonwilds in 2027?
Jagex says official modding is planned for 2027 through a CurseForge partnership. The plan includes dedicated creation tools, an in-game mod browser and an installer available across all supported platforms, including consoles.

No launch date, supported mod categories or commercial terms have been published. Mod availability and platform behavior may change before release, so players should check Jagex’s final implementation details when the program is announced.
What should players expect next?
- Watch for Luminance details ahead of its December 2026 target, especially Prayer’s actual training and benefit systems.

Can I start training the skills before their updates launch?
No pre-release training system has been announced. Until each update is deployed, there are no confirmed Dragonwilds activities, items or quests that level these skills.
Will Dragonwilds receive more than these three skills?
Jagex has described the game as a multi-year project with additional skills and other content planned. The studio has not named further skills beyond Prayer, Hunter and Slayer.
