RespKit is an open-source Go package that standardizes HTTP responses across an application. It gives successful requests a predictable success: true and data envelope, while failures use success: false plus an error object containing a stable public code and message. That consistency means clients do not need endpoint-specific parsing rules.
The package also supplies adapters for common Go web frameworks, configurable naming conventions, error mapping, localized messages, validation-detail formatting, diagnostics, and optional RFC 9457 Problem Details for errors. The resp module is documented as version 1.1.0 in 2026.

What problem does RespKit solve in a Go API?
RespKit targets a common maintenance problem: response shapes evolve independently as different developers add handlers. One route may return data, another result, and a third may serialize an internal error directly. A frontend or mobile client then needs special cases for every endpoint, and changing one handler can silently break consumers.
RespKit puts those decisions in one response layer. Its helpers choose the envelope, status code, headers, error representation, and (when configured) translated message. The project author describes it as a package for “keeping HTTP responses consistent across an application.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Consistency is useful even when an API is small. Stable public error codes let clients branch on machine-readable values instead of matching prose; a common success envelope makes generated clients and shared middleware simpler; and keeping wrapped causes private prevents implementation details from leaking to callers.
What do RespKit success and error responses look like?
The default format is deliberately small. A successful response contains a boolean and a data value; a failure contains a boolean and an error object.

The exact fields in an error can expand when validation details or localization are enabled, but the public code remains the important contract. RespKit does not serialize a wrapped internal cause by default.
How do I install and use RespKit with net/http?
Install the core module with the Go toolchain, then adapt an ordinary handler to RespKit’s response writer and request context.
-
Fetch the module:
go get github.com/ZihxS/RespKit/resp -
Wrap the standard-library writer and request with
resp.HTTP:func getUser(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) { out := resp.HTTP(w, r) resp.OK(out, map[string]any{ "id": 42, "name": "Ada", }) } -
Register the handler normally:
http.HandleFunc("/users/42", getUser) log.Fatal(http.ListenAndServe(":8080", nil))
The package reference lists helpers including OK, Fail, Created, NoContent, and NotFound. Use the helper whose HTTP semantics match the operation instead of writing a status code and JSON body separately. The package documentation and source are available at github.com/ZihxS/RespKit/resp.
Does RespKit work with Gin, Echo, Fiber, Chi, Gorilla/mux, and Beego?
Yes. RespKit documents integrations for net/http, Gin, Echo, Fiber, Chi, Gorilla/mux, and Beego. Gin, Echo, and Fiber can pass their native framework contexts directly; handlers built around the standard library use the HTTP adapter.

| Framework | Integration style documented | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| net/http | resp.HTTP(w, r) |
Wrap the standard writer and request in each handler or shared helper. |
| Gin | Native context | Pass the Gin context to RespKit helpers rather than converting it to a standard request. |
| Echo | Native context | Keep Echo’s context and invoke the corresponding RespKit response functions. |
| Fiber | Native context | Use Fiber’s context directly through the documented adapter. |
| Chi | Integration documented | Use the adapter appropriate to the handler style in the Chi application. |
| Gorilla/mux | Integration documented | Continue using route variables and middleware while delegating serialization to RespKit. |
| Beego | Integration documented | Use the package’s Beego integration instead of duplicating envelope logic. |
Adapter coverage does not mean every framework has identical middleware behavior. Keep authentication, rate limiting, tracing, and request validation in the framework layers you already operate, and use RespKit for the response contract.
How do I configure naming, locales, and error behavior?
Create a dedicated resp.Engine when an API needs settings that should not affect every handler in the process. The engine accepts options for field naming, default locale, translation catalogs, custom error mappers, and error format.
Choose a naming convention
RespKit can emit snake_case, camelCase, or PascalCase. Pick the convention required by the client contract and keep it consistent across success data, validation details, and error metadata. Renaming fields is a wire-level change, so treat it like an API versioning decision rather than a cosmetic preference.
Use one engine or several
A single process can host separate engines. For example, a public REST API can use one locale and naming convention while an internal API uses another, without package-level settings bleeding between them. If one configuration is sufficient, package-level helpers can be updated with resp.Configure.
Centralize domain-to-HTTP mapping
Custom mappers translate domain or dependency errors into public HTTP classifications and stable codes. This keeps database, queue, or third-party error types out of the API contract. Map expected conditions explicitly, then provide a safe fallback for unexpected failures.
How are errors represented and kept safe?
Use resp.NewError to create an application-facing error with a stable public code. The code should describe the condition clients can act on, such as a missing resource or invalid input, rather than exposing a database constraint name or stack trace.
RespKit retains wrapped causes for server-side inspection but does not serialize those causes by default. That separation lets logs preserve debugging context while the client receives a deliberately limited message. The documentation summarizes the policy as: “Raw internal errors stay private by default.”

For diagnostics, the package exposes Inspect(err) and Explain(err). Use those functions in logging or support tooling where the original error chain matters; do not send their diagnostic output as an unfiltered API response.
How does RespKit localize API errors?
When translation catalogs are configured, RespKit examines the request’s Accept-Language header and chooses the best available locale. If none of the requested languages is available, it falls back to the engine’s configured default locale.
Applications can override the locale for an individual response. This is useful for an administrative operation or a background workflow that has a known language independent of the browser’s preference. When localization is used, RespKit sets Content-Language and Vary: Accept-Language, allowing caches to distinguish representations by language.
Keep stable error codes language-neutral. Translate the human-readable message and any catalog-backed field text, while clients continue to make decisions using the code.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can RespKit return RFC 9457 Problem Details?
Yes. Configure an engine with resp.WithErrorFormat(resp.ProblemDetails). Errors then use RFC 9457 Problem Details and the application/problem+json media type, while successful responses continue to use RespKit’s ordinary success envelope.
This mixed behavior is intentional: Problem Details standardizes failures without forcing a redesign of successful payloads. Document the two content shapes for client developers and make sure error handling checks the response content type as well as the HTTP status.
Problem Details is an output format, not an error-generation system. Your handlers still need to classify domain failures, choose public codes, and decide which fields are safe to expose.

How does RespKit handle validation errors?
RespKit formats field-level validation details, but it does not replace the validation library or your application’s validation rules. After validation detects failures, provide each detail with a field path, stable code, and optional parameters.
- Field path: identifies the input location, including nested fields when applicable.
- Stable code: gives clients a machine-readable reason such as a required value or invalid format.
- Parameters: carry context such as a minimum length or an allowed range.
Because the formatter is separate from validation, you can keep the same public error contract when switching validation libraries. Decide whether field paths follow your configured naming convention before clients depend on them.
What diagnostics does the companion respkit command provide?
The companion respkit command provides catalog and diagnostic functions. A typical workflow is to use the command to inspect translation catalogs or investigate how an error is classified, then keep runtime responses focused on the public contract.
The command module is documented as MIT licensed. Check the module’s own documentation for its currently supported subcommands and flags rather than assuming that a command-line option in one release exists in another.
What is known about RespKit 1.1.0?
The resp module is reported as version 1.1.0 on pkg.go.dev in 2026, and the command module is also reported as version 1.1.0. Pin the version in your application’s dependency file and review its release notes before upgrading, especially if you expose response schemas to external clients.

How should I introduce RespKit without breaking existing clients?
-
Inventory current response bodies and status codes. Record every success key, error shape, and validation representation before changing handlers.
-
Define stable public error codes and map existing domain failures with a custom mapper. Avoid changing a code merely because an internal package was renamed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RespKit a replacement for Go middleware?
No. Its documented role is response construction, formatting, mapping, and diagnostics. Authentication, authorization, tracing, rate limiting, and request validation can remain in your existing middleware and framework layers.
Can two APIs in one Go process use different response policies?
Yes. Dedicated resp.Engine instances are intended for that case. Give each API its own naming, locale, catalogs, mappers, and error format instead of relying on mutable package-wide settings.
Does enabling Problem Details change successful responses too?
No. The Problem Details option applies to errors and uses application/problem+json; successful responses retain the normal RespKit envelope. Client code should therefore handle the success and error media types independently.
Does RespKit perform input validation for me?
No. Your handler or validation library still decides whether input is valid. RespKit takes the resulting field path, code, and parameters and formats them consistently for the API response.
