You can reserve a World of Warcraft: Forever character before launch only by pre-purchasing an eligible digital upgrade: the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, or Warcraft Forever Collection. The reservation window runs from 27 October through 3 November 2026, and you can create up to three complete characters per WoW account. A subscription or Game Time is not required during the reservation period, but you will need Game Time or a subscription to play from launch on 4 November.
Forever uses two-part names in a realmless region. The complete first-name-plus-second-name combination must be available in your region, so choosing a ruleset, faction and several backup names before the window opens is essential.

When can I reserve a character name?
Early Name Reservation is open from 27 October through 3 November 2026. Blizzard has announced the opening times below but has not published a closing hour on 3 November.

Europe opens first. The dates and times come from Blizzard’s 20 October 2026 announcement. Because no final closing hour has been posted, complete your characters before the end of 3 November rather than relying on a last-minute attempt.

The first day had a temporary delay and login queues in some regions. Blizzard’s support article still lists greyed-out rulesets and related issues as known problems, so a missing option does not by itself mean the reservation program has been cancelled.
How do I reserve a character name?
Use the Battle.net desktop app and install the Forever client. Reservation is full character creation, not a separate name-only form: you choose the ruleset, faction, race, class, appearance and both parts of the name.

- Download and install the Battle.net desktop app.
- Open Battle.net and let it finish any pending update.
- Select World of Warcraft from the game list.
- Open the Game Version menu above Play, choose World of Warcraft: Forever, then select Install.
- When installation finishes, select Play and choose your ruleset.
- Create up to three characters, entering a complete two-part name for each one.
If Play is greyed out, check the Battle.net region. Click your BattleTag, log out, then use the cogwheel on the login module to select the region that matches the WoW play region. A region mismatch can prevent the client from presenting the correct launch controls.
Who can reserve a name?
You qualify if you pre-purchase any one of the three digital products below on the WoW account that will hold the characters. The Heroic Pack is the least expensive qualifying purchase.

Prices were checked in October 2026 and can vary by region, taxes and shop currency. The Collection is scheduled to remain on sale through 11 January 2027. Beta access attached to the Epic Pack and Collection ended on 23 October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT, so it is no longer a reason to pay for a higher tier.
The reservation benefit applies only to the specific WoW account for which the purchase was made. Buying another copy does not raise the three-character limit on one account; a separate copy attaches to a separate WoW account.
What does not qualify?
- A World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time by itself.
- A Forever beta code.
- An Invite-a-Friend Launch Code. Those codes provide a friend with play access from 4 through 11 November, not Early Name Reservation.
Do I need game time or a subscription to reserve a name?
No. Blizzard Customer Support states that you do not need a current subscription to reserve names early. The paid upgrade is the access requirement for the reservation window.
Game Time or a subscription becomes necessary for normal play from 4 November. The Epic Pack and Collection include 30 days at launch; after that period, continued play requires a subscription or additional Game Time. The Heroic Pack does not include Game Time.

How many names can I reserve?
You can create up to three characters per WoW account during Early Name Reservation, and the cap is shared across every ruleset. Two characters on PvP leave only one early slot for Normal, Roleplay or Roleplay PvP.
The three-slot limit applies to the early window. It is not a promise of the eventual maximum character count after launch. Decide your ruleset and faction before spending a slot, because moving a character to another ruleset later is not supported; you create a new character instead.
Are Forever names unique per server or realm?
Forever is realmless. The full combination of the first name and second name must be unique within your region, not within an individual realm or ruleset. The same full name cannot be reused on another ruleset in that region.
First names can be shared when the second names differ. For example, Mira Stonebrook and Mira Ashvale are different combinations. A family-style second name can also be shared by different first names if each complete combination is available.
How do I hide the second name in the world?
Press Escape to open the Game Menu, choose Options, open Nameplates, and enable or disable the checkbox labeled My Secondary Name. Hiding it removes the second name from world displays but not from chat.
Why is a name restricted?
Names must follow the in-game code of conduct. Filters can block profanity, lore characters, impersonation, technical conflicts, repeated-character patterns and other prohibited spellings. The filter evaluates both parts together, so splitting a restricted word across the first and second names may still fail.

Blizzard acknowledged a bug that incorrectly restricted some otherwise acceptable names, including names containing the sequence “c-o-n.” A fix was scheduled for regional realm restarts; if a legitimate choice was rejected before the restart, try it again afterward. Blizzard has not published character-name length limits, allowed accents or character sets for each part, or a paid name-change service.
Can I keep my Classic or retail name?
No automatic reservation carries over from retail World of Warcraft or WoW Classic. Forever uses a fresh character pool, and the only announced way to claim a Forever name before launch is the 2026 Early Name Reservation window. Existing ownership of a retail or Classic name does not give priority.

Which ruleset and faction should I choose?
Ruleset selection is part of the reservation decision. Characters cannot freely move between rulesets, so use one of your three slots on the environment in which you intend to play.

On PvP, your first faction choice locks that account to Alliance or Horde for the PvP ruleset. If one faction becomes significantly more dominant, Blizzard can temporarily restrict creation for that faction; Customer Support will not bypass the lock. Cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, although battlegrounds can mix players except in Hardcore.
What is the Oceanic creation-order issue?
Blizzard lists a known issue for Oceanic players connecting to Australian-based servers: create Roleplay or Roleplay-PvP characters before creating Normal or PvP characters. Creating Normal or PvP first can hide the roleplay rulesets for later characters.
If Roleplay PvP is missing, Blizzard’s workaround is to select another ruleset first and then click Ruleset in the top navigation bar.
How do I fix common reservation errors?
Most errors identify either an account entitlement, a ruleset population limit or a temporary service problem. Use the matching remedy below instead of repeatedly changing names.
“Access to this realm requires an account with valid access license (WOW51900337)”
This means the WoW account lacks a qualifying Forever pre-purchase. Confirm that the Heroic Pack, Epic Pack or Collection was bought for the same WoW account selected in Battle.net. A subscription, beta code or Invite-a-Friend code cannot replace that entitlement.
“This faction is currently unavailable on this realm due to population imbalance.”
This is the PvP faction lock, not an error Customer Support can override. Choose the available faction on that account, use another ruleset, or wait for Blizzard to change the population restriction.
“Creation of that type of character is currently throttled”
Character creation is being rate-limited. Wait for the throttle to ease, then retry without repeatedly submitting the same request. Keep your chosen names and appearance decisions ready so you can finish quickly when the slot opens.

“This ruleset is temporarily unavailable”
Blizzard is investigating cases in which all rulesets appear greyed out. Verify the Battle.net region, restart the client after updates and try again later; do not assume that your purchase failed solely because the ruleset list is unavailable.
“Character creation timed out”
Retry after checking your connection and restarting the Battle.net app. If the service is under heavy launch-day load, a later attempt may succeed; the message does not make a taken name available again.

Try a different full combination, especially if the wording could resemble a lore character, impersonation, profanity or a technical token. If a harmless name was rejected during the known filter bug, retry after the next regional realm restart.
Does the physical Collector’s Edition include name reservation?
Not by itself and not in time for the current window unless its digital code is redeemed before the window closes. The physical Collector’s Edition is a $150.00 Blizzard Gear Store product, was listed as sold out when checked in 2026, and contains the Warcraft Forever Collection code plus physical collectibles and 30 days of Game Time.
Blizzard states that orders placed before 24 September 2026 were scheduled to ship in October, while orders placed on or after that date were scheduled for February 2027. A box arriving in February cannot protect a name during the October–November reservation period.
The practical route is to buy a qualifying digital product now if you want early access. Blizzard’s Gear Store terms and Support article 000036942 describe a possible Battle.net Balance return after redeeming a Collector’s Edition code by 31 December 2027, but eligibility depends on the product and upgrade path; some cases require Customer Support. Do not buy the physical box as a substitute for the digital reservation entitlement.

Blizzard and regional time conversions place the worldwide launch on Wednesday, 4 November 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, or 23:00 UTC. Characters created during Early Name Reservation are live characters and become playable at launch.
Players who did not reserve early can create characters from launch with a subscription or Game Time, but they enter the larger pool of names remaining at that point. Invite-a-Friend Launch Codes provide their separate play-access period from 4 through 11 November and do not add Skyborne or Early Name Reservation.

How did the 2019 WoW Classic reservation work?
The August 2019 Classic process is historical context, not the current Forever rule. Players with an active subscription or Game Time could create up to three characters per WoW account before Classic launched on 26 August 2019 at 3:00 p.m. PDT.
The old path was Battle.net app → World of Warcraft → World of Warcraft Classic → Install → Play → choose a named realm → Create New Character. Classic used single names unique to each realm, and PvP realms restricted an account to one faction. After launch, Classic allowed 10 characters per realm and 50 per region, independent of retail limits.

Forever changes all three central assumptions: eligibility now comes from a paid upgrade rather than subscription status, play is organized by rulesets in a realmless region rather than named realms, and names are two-part combinations unique by region.
How should I prepare before the reservation window?
Preparation matters because names are first-come, first-served and Customer Support cannot recover a taken or restricted combination.
- Confirm the qualifying purchase is attached to the exact WoW account you will use.
- Install and update Battle.net before your regional opening time.
- Verify the app region and prepare to switch it through the login cogwheel if Play is greyed out.
- Choose your ruleset and, on PvP, your intended faction before creating the first character.
- Write several complete first-and-second-name combinations, including backups that follow the naming code of conduct.
- Reserve the most important combination first, because the three-character cap is shared across rulesets.
- If a legitimate name is rejected by the known filter bug, retry after the relevant regional realm restart instead of assuming the name is permanently prohibited.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change a Forever character’s name after launch?
Blizzard had not published a player-purchased name-change service for Forever as of 27 October 2026. Treat the reserved combination as permanent unless Blizzard later announces a supported change process.
Can I use the same first name on several Forever characters?
Yes, provided each complete two-part combination is different and available in your region. The uniqueness check applies to the full name, not the first-name portion alone.

Can I create both factions on a PvP ruleset account later?
No. The PvP ruleset permits one faction per account. Normal, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP do not use that same single-faction restriction.
What does an Invite-a-Friend Launch Code actually provide?
It lets the invited player access Forever from 4 through 11 November without a subscription. It does not unlock Early Name Reservation, the Skyborne upgrade or the ability to reserve a character before launch.
