In India, report unsafe food through FSSAI’s Food Safety Connect service. Sign in, choose Register New Complaint, select the concern and food business (or Other FBO), add the facts and available evidence, and submit. FSSAI generates a ticket number; use it on Complaint Tracker or in the signed-in View Complaint area to read Complaint History. A product photograph and retail bill can help, but FSSAI’s guidance does not make a receipt or laboratory report a universal prerequisite. The 15-day period described in the FAQ concerns forwarding an unsatisfactory response for further state action, not a guaranteed time for every complaint to be resolved.

What is FSSAI Food Safety Connect?

Food Safety Connect is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India’s consumer channel for raising food-safety concerns and grievances. The FAQ covers complaints about packaged food, food premises such as restaurants or shops, and online aggregators or delivery platforms. You can use the web portal or the documented consumer route in the FSSAI app.

The service is for reporting a suspected food-safety problem, not for declaring a product legally unsafe yourself. Describe what you observed and let the responsible food-safety authorities investigate.

What should you collect before filing a complaint?

Prepare the details that allow FSSAI or the relevant state authority to identify the food, business and incident. Better identification usually makes a complaint more actionable, but do not delay an urgent report simply because one item is unavailable.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Food details: product name, brand, batch or lot information, manufacturing and expiry dates, pack size and the suspected problem.
  • Purchase details: shop, restaurant, delivery platform or website name; address or locality; date and time; and order or invoice details if you have them.
  • Business identification: choose the listed Food Business Operator (FBO) when it appears. If it does not, choose Other FBO and provide the identifying information available to you. The FAQ discusses an outlet or premises FSSAI licence or registration number among details that may be relevant for an unlisted business.
  • Evidence: a clear product photograph, packaging and label images, and the retail bill or order record where available. FSSAI’s FAQ names JPG, JPEG and PNG as supported supplementary image formats.
  • Your account details: a working email address or mobile number for account creation, OTP verification and status access.

Write down the ticket number immediately after submission. It is the reference used by the portal’s tracking tools.

How do I file a complaint on the FSSAI portal?

Use the current Food Safety Connect route. On a FoSCoS page, select Consumer Grievance, not Track Application; the latter is a different service. FSSAI’s consumer-services page also distinguishes Track Complaint from Verify Licence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Food Safety Connect. Start from FSSAI’s Food Safety Connect service page and follow its link to the official consumer portal.
  2. Create an account or sign in. Enter a valid email address or mobile number and complete OTP verification when requested.
  3. Choose Register New Complaint. Select the category that best matches the issue, such as a packaged product, food premises or online delivery/aggregator concern.
  4. Identify the business. Select the matching FBO from the list where possible. Use Other FBO when the business is not listed, then supply the available name, location and licence or registration information.
  5. Describe the incident. State what you bought or consumed, when and where, what appeared unsafe, and whether anyone became ill. Keep the description factual and specific; avoid conclusions that you cannot establish.
  6. Add supporting files. Upload relevant product and bill images in JPG, JPEG or PNG format when available. These attachments strengthen identification, but FSSAI does not say that every complaint must include a receipt or laboratory result.
  7. Review before sending. Check the business, address, dates, contact details and description. A submitted complaint cannot be edited; the FAQ says you may file a fresh complaint if a correction is necessary.
  8. Submit and save the ticket number. FSSAI’s filing guide states: “A ticket number will be generated against the complaint through which consumer can track the complaint.” Save a screenshot or copy the number to a secure note.

Do not use Track Application for this task. It is not the same as the consumer complaint workflow and can lead you away from the ticketing screen you need.

Can I report unsafe food through the FSSAI app?

Yes. FSSAI’s app guide documents a consumer route separate from the web portal. The app and portal are both official access methods, but their screens should not be assumed to be identical.

  1. Open the FSSAI app and choose Consumer for lodging grievance.
  2. Sign in or create an account, completing the requested OTP verification.
  3. Choose the complaint option and enter the category, FBO and incident details requested on the app.
  4. Attach available photographs or bill images in the formats accepted by the app.
  5. Submit the grievance and record the ticket number shown after submission.

If you later need to track the case, use the ticket number on the web portal’s Complaint Tracker or sign in and look under View Complaint. Keep the same account details used for the submission.

What evidence should I attach?

Attach evidence that identifies the item and connects it to the business and date. FSSAI specifically suggests a product photograph and the retail bill. Those are useful examples, not a statement that every complaint requires both.

Product and packaging photographs

Photograph the front and back of the package, ingredient and allergen panels, batch or lot code, manufacturing and expiry dates, seals and any visible contamination, damage or unusual appearance. For prepared food, photograph the food and the container or label that identifies the seller. Keep the original files so the date and image details remain available if an officer asks for clarification.

Purchase and delivery records

A bill, order confirmation, payment record or delivery receipt can establish where and when the food was obtained. If you do not have a paper receipt, explain the purchase date, outlet, approximate time and payment method in the description rather than inventing a document.

Health information

If someone became ill, record symptoms, onset time, people affected and whether medical care was sought. Do not upload more personal medical information than is necessary for the complaint. Seek urgent medical help for severe symptoms; a portal complaint is not an emergency-care service.

How do I track my FSSAI complaint?

FSSAI documents two tracking routes. Both use the ticket number and expose the complaint history, but one is available from the homepage while the other requires your signed-in account.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Route When to use it Steps What to read
Homepage Complaint Tracker You have the ticket number and are not relying on an active sign-in. Open the Food Safety Connect homepage, choose Complaint Tracker, enter the ticket number and open the result. Complaint History, including recorded actions and status changes.
Signed-in View Complaint You can access the account used to lodge the grievance. Sign in, select View Complaint, locate the ticket, choose View and open its history. Complaint History and any available response or feedback controls.

Check the history rather than relying only on a headline status. It can show whether the complaint was forwarded, answered, marked dissatisfied or closed. FSSAI also provides a Closed Complaints history in the portal.

What happens after I submit a complaint?

The Food Safety Connect FAQ says a complaint is first sent to the relevant packaged-food business, food premises or delivery platform, with a copy to the State Food Safety Commissioner. The response and subsequent handling depend on the issue and the responsible authorities.

How should I interpret the 15-day period?

FSSAI describes a 15-day period in connection with an unsatisfactory response being referred to the respective state for further action. It does not promise that every complaint will be resolved within 15 days, and the published material does not establish a complaint-resolution rate or service-level guarantee.

What if the response does not solve the problem?

Use the portal’s feedback option to record that you are dissatisfied and explain what remains unresolved. The officer manual describes marking dissatisfaction for possible further action. Keep checking the ticket’s history for the next recorded step rather than opening multiple duplicate complaints without a reason.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I correct a submitted complaint?

No editing function is described for a submitted complaint. Review all fields before sending. If a material correction is needed, the FAQ says a consumer may submit a fresh complaint; include the earlier ticket number in the new description so the relationship is clear.

What should I do if the portal stops responding?

FSSAI’s FAQ recommends refreshing first, then logging out and signing back in if the service stops responding. Keep a copy of your text and attachments outside the form so you do not lose them during a session failure.

  1. Refresh the page once and wait for the form or status result to reload.
  2. If the problem continues, log out, close the session and sign in again.
  3. Try the other documented route: the web portal instead of the app, or the app instead of the portal.
  4. If submission succeeded, look for the ticket number in your confirmation before attempting another submission.
  5. For help, check FSSAI’s grievance page and current State/UT contacts. The published grievance page lists helpline 1800-11-2100 and hours of 07:00–23:00; verify the hours on the live page because contact details can change.

Phone calls, email and social-media messages may be useful for general assistance, but FSSAI’s portal guidance specifically recommends registering through the grievance platform for processing there. Do not assume that a call or message automatically creates a ticket visible in Complaint Tracker.

Do I need a laboratory test before reporting unsafe food?

No. FSSAI’s consumer guidance presents laboratory testing as a separate option, not a prerequisite for filing a complaint. You can report the facts and attach available evidence without first obtaining a laboratory result.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

When is notified-laboratory testing useful?

A consumer may seek testing through an FSSAI-notified laboratory or report the matter to the Food Safety Department and have a sample tested. A notified laboratory’s formal analysis is different from a photograph, personal observation or home screening result. Verify the particular laboratory and applicable program before paying for a test.

What can a household adulteration check tell me?

FSSAI’s rapid-testing material describes preliminary screening tools, and its DART material describes household checks for common adulterants. Such checks can indicate that further investigation may be worthwhile, but they do not by themselves establish that food is legally unsafe, prove the source of contamination or diagnose an illness. Do not delay medical care or a portal complaint while trying to obtain a home-test result.

How should I write a complaint that investigators can use?

Use a short chronology and separate what you know from what you suspect. A clear narrative helps an officer match the complaint to a premises, product and transaction.

  • Start with the item: give the product or dish name, pack or order details and quantity.
  • Identify the seller: provide the outlet, restaurant, manufacturer, delivery platform or online seller and its location.
  • Give the timeline: state when you bought, received, opened or consumed it and when the problem appeared.
  • Describe observable facts: for example, a broken seal, foreign material, incorrect expiry information, unusual odor, suspected adulteration or a mismatch between the listing and the delivered item.
  • Explain impact: list symptoms and affected people, if any, without claiming a medical diagnosis.
  • State the action you want: ask for inspection, verification or appropriate action rather than demanding a conclusion you cannot support.

Use one complaint for one coherent incident. If several products or outlets are involved, explain the connection or file separate complaints so each ticket has an identifiable FBO and evidence set.

What are the most common filing mistakes?

  • Choosing the wrong service: “Track Application” and “Verify Licence” are not substitutes for the consumer grievance route.
  • Leaving out location information: a business name alone may not distinguish branches or sellers. Add the address, locality, landmark or delivery details available to you.
  • Submitting before checking: complaints cannot be edited after submission. Review dates, contact information, FBO selection and attachments first.
  • Assuming a receipt is mandatory: attach one when available, but do not fabricate or delay a genuine report because you paid cash or lost the bill.
  • Treating a home kit as proof: preliminary screening is not a legal or clinical determination.
  • Losing the ticket number: without it, the documented homepage tracker cannot be used. Save it at submission.
  • Expecting a 15-day guarantee: the period concerns escalation of an unsatisfactory response, not universal closure.
  • Creating duplicate tickets during an outage: first check whether the original submission produced a ticket number, then use the history and support channels.

How do I protect my information while reporting?

Only provide information relevant to identifying the incident and contacting you. Crop unrelated documents before uploading, avoid posting personal medical records publicly, and keep copies of submitted files and the ticket number in a secure place. If the issue involves an immediate threat to health, obtain medical or emergency assistance in parallel with the complaint.

Can I track a complaint made by phone or email?

FSSAI publishes a grievance helpline and State/UT contact information, but the portal documentation does not promise that a phone call, email or social-media post automatically receives a Food Safety Connect ticket. For trackable status, register the grievance through the official portal or app and retain the generated ticket number.

What is the practical checklist before you close the browser?

  • Food item, business and location are identified as precisely as possible.
  • Incident date, purchase or delivery details and observable facts are written plainly.
  • Available photographs and bill or order records are attached in an accepted image format.
  • You have reviewed every field because the submitted complaint cannot be edited.
  • The confirmation screen has produced a ticket number.
  • You know whether you will use Complaint Tracker or signed-in View Complaint.
  • You will read Complaint History and use feedback if the response is unsatisfactory.

That workflow gives FSSAI the information needed to route a concern while preserving a documented way for you to follow its progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I file an FSSAI complaint without a receipt?

Yes. FSSAI’s guidance recommends a retail bill when available but does not state that every complaint requires one. Give the seller, location, date and transaction details you do have, and explain if the purchase record is unavailable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does “Other FBO” mean in Food Safety Connect?

It is the selection used when the business you need to report is not available in the portal’s listed Food Business Operator choices. Enter the identifying name, location and other details requested for that business instead of choosing an unrelated listing.

Will FSSAI tell me the laboratory result for a sample?

The consumer materials describe laboratory testing as a possible separate route, not as an automatic step in every portal complaint. Whether a sample is collected or tested depends on the responsible food-safety authority and the circumstances of the case.

Can I submit another complaint after closing one?

The FAQ says a fresh complaint may be submitted when a submitted complaint needs correction. Use a new ticket only when necessary, and reference the earlier ticket so the authority can understand the connection rather than treating related reports as unrelated incidents.

What file types does the complaint portal accept for images?

FSSAI’s FAQ lists JPG, JPEG and PNG for supplementary images. Keep the original, readable files and make sure labels, batch codes or visible defects are legible before uploading.
