Recomp Store is a catalog and RecompLauncher is its companion PC app for finding, installing and updating community-made native ports of console games. The service covers projects from Nintendo 64 and Xbox 360, with documented support for Windows, Linux and Mac. It does not provide ROMs, disc images or other copyrighted game files: you must supply your own legally obtained copy and meet each project’s region and version requirements.
A report published October 26, 2026 described the newly launched launcher as a simpler way to discover projects such as Skate 3, Zelda 64: Recompiled, Sonic and Mario Kart ports. The catalog is live and changes frequently, so its contents and project maturity can change.

Recomp Store is the storefront-style catalog; RecompLauncher is the application that turns that catalog into an installation and update workflow. RecompLauncher describes itself as “One app for every PC recomp. It installs them, keeps them up to date, sets them up from your own copy, and gives every game the same simple settings.”
The launcher is therefore a discovery, setup and maintenance layer, not a game distribution service. Selecting a listing takes you to the project’s requirements and developer-provided download or repository. The underlying port remains a separate community project with its own supported versions, features and troubleshooting guidance.

How do I play Xbox 360 and Nintendo 64 games natively on PC?
Choose a project in RecompLauncher, obtain its build from the linked developer repository, and provide the original game data requested by that project. The launcher can handle installation and updates after those prerequisites are met.
- Install RecompLauncher. The documented PC targets are Windows, Linux and Mac.
- Pick a catalog entry. Open its requirements before downloading anything; projects can differ in source version, region, operating-system support and manual extraction steps.
- Get the port from its developer. RecompStore links to the project’s repository or release rather than hosting the copyrighted game.
- Supply your own original copy. Follow the README’s instructions for extracting or locating the required ROM, disc image or other source files. Use only game data you are legally entitled to use.
- Let the launcher configure it. RecompLauncher installs the selected build, applies shared settings where supported and checks for later project updates.
Because each recomp is maintained independently, a successful setup for one title does not guarantee identical file names, regions or extraction procedures for another.

The official pages do not publish a stable game count or a universal frame-rate guarantee. Check the current catalog entry and its README for the version you intend to use.
What does “native” mean for a recomp?
A recomp is built by translating or reconstructing console code into code that can be compiled for a PC target. The N64Recomp approach translates an N64 binary into C before compiling a native PC build. Xbox 360 projects use toolchains such as ReXGlue and XenonRecomp.
This differs from a general-purpose emulator, which normally recreates the original console’s hardware behavior while running the original executable. A native recomp can expose PC-oriented graphics, resolution, frame-rate, input or operating-system features, but those capabilities depend on the individual project. “Native” also does not mean “official remaster”: these are community ports and may omit content, contain unfinished features or require project-specific runtimes.

Do I need my own ROM or disc?
Yes. Recomp Store says it does not host game files or copyrighted content, and the linked repositories do not supply those files either. You must obtain the original game legally and provide the exact data requested by the project.
Ownership alone may not answer every jurisdiction’s copying rules. Follow the law where you live, do not download someone else’s ROM or ISO, and read the project’s stated region and revision requirements. A mismatched dump can look like a launcher failure even when the installation itself is correct.
What should I compare before choosing a recomp?

It is designed to install projects and keep them up to date through a common interface. Automatic updating still depends on the developer publishing a compatible release and on the project retaining the same source-file requirements. Read release notes before accepting a major update, keep a backup of configuration files, and recheck the required game revision if an update stops launching.

Catalog entries and project maturity change quickly. There is no single compatibility percentage, benchmark or guaranteed frame rate for the whole service, and a listing’s presence does not imply that every feature is finished on every operating system. Troubleshooting must usually follow the individual project’s README: confirm the original files, region, revision, runtime dependencies, graphics driver and controller settings before reporting a launcher problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RecompLauncher an emulator?
No. It manages community ports produced through recompilation or related code-reconstruction toolchains. The resulting executable is intended to run as a PC build, although a specific project can still require its own runtime components.
Can I use any ROM or disc dump with a recomp?
Usually not. Each project can require a particular region, revision or title update, so an otherwise legitimate copy may be incompatible. The catalog entry and linked README are the authority for the accepted source files.
Will a recomp include online multiplayer or console features?
There is no service-wide promise. Online modes, split-screen behavior, achievements and other console-specific features are implemented, omitted or experimental on a project-by-project basis; check that title’s release notes.
Why does a port fail after an update?
Common causes include an unsupported source revision, changed file location, missing runtime, graphics-driver issue or reset controller mapping. Compare the new release’s requirements with your files and configuration, then use the developer’s issue tracker if the documented steps do not resolve it.
