As of the official announcements checked October 30, 2026, the October 22 patch notes do not confirm that the necessary cross-play rollout had been approved. The precise pairs that currently work—such as Steam with Switch 2, or PS5 with Xbox—therefore remain unconfirmed by the checked notices. The publisher’s October 16 wording was “We are working on crossplay between Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.” That describes work in progress, not a guarantee that cross-play is live.
Storefront labels are not enough to resolve the issue. Xbox’s “cross-platform multiplayer” capability label and Nintendo’s cross-platform tag do not identify which other platforms can actually join a session. A room code is also just a way to invite someone; it does not enable cross-play if the game or platform pairing does not support it. Check a newer official publisher update and verify the exact two platforms your group intends to use before purchasing for a mixed-platform session.
The publisher’s full-release FAQ describes versions for Steam, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. It also said an edition for the original Nintendo Switch was still in preparation as of October 13, 2026. Do not treat Switch 2 availability as confirmation that the original Switch version is already available or shares the same multiplayer support.
How do you invite friends with a room code?
One player creates a room and shares its code; the other players use friend matchmaking in the multiplayer menu and enter that code. The publisher’s FAQ also lists platform invitations for Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

- Check that everyone is on a supported platform and able to play online. If the group is mixing platforms, confirm current cross-play support for that exact pairing first; having a room code will not resolve an unsupported pairing.
- Have one player create an online room. That player shares the room code with the people they want to invite.
- Have each friend open the multiplayer menu and choose friend matchmaking. Enter the host’s code to attempt to join the room.
- Use the platform invitation option where available. The publisher lists invitations on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
- Start together once everyone has joined. If a friend cannot connect, use the troubleshooting checks below rather than assuming the code proves cross-play is active.
Everyone needs online access for co-op. The publisher specifies a Nintendo Switch Online membership on Switch 2, PlayStation Plus on PS5, and an Xbox Game Pass tier that includes console online multiplayer on Xbox. Offline solo play is available without the online co-op connection.
Why can’t you join a friend in Ratatan?
Start with the issues the publisher identifies: mismatched game versions, connection problems, and the possibility that cross-play is not available for the platforms in the group. Check for a version mismatch

Confirm that the platform pairing is supported
If the players are on different systems, verify cross-play for that exact pair in a current official notice. The October 13 and October 16 publisher statements differ, and the later statement describes cross-play as being worked on pending platform approval. A successful room-code entry attempt cannot establish that a mixed-platform connection is supported.

Check the online service and PC network conditions
Confirm that each console player has the required online service for their platform and that the internet connection is available. For PC, Steam lists broadband internet and a non-symmetric NAT environment, such as open or moderate, for online co-op. That is a network requirement, not a recommendation to install a driver utility. The publisher’s connection and disconnection reports have no verified universal remedy in the checked notices.
Separate connection trouble from save-data limits
Co-op progress is saved to each participant’s own game save, but the publisher says save data cannot be shared between platforms.
