Yes— the QIDI Plus5 is a compelling high-temperature workhorse if you need large, enclosed prints in engineering filaments. Its 320 × 320 × 300 mm build volume, 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and actively heated 65°C chamber make it unusually capable for a printer launched at $749 in the United States. Tom’s Hardware found it one of the strongest high-temperature machines it had seen. The important qualification is workflow: rear-mounted filament loading is inconvenient, long-term reliability has not been established by a multi-month independent study, and the optional QIDI Box still does not swap colors reliably. That makes the Plus5 a better choice for large functional parts than for dependable multicolor production.

What is the QIDI Plus5?

The QIDI Plus5 is an enclosed CoreXY fused-filament-fabrication (FFF) printer designed around large, technically demanding parts. QIDI Technology positions it as a bigger, smarter and more affordable successor to the Plus4, while Tom’s Hardware describes it as a high-temperature workhorse. CoreXY motion keeps the printhead moving on a rigid belt-driven system while the bed moves vertically, a layout commonly chosen for fast, large-format machines.

The Plus5’s defining combination is not any single specification. It is the combination of a 320 mm-class print area, active chamber heating and a high-temperature hot end in a sub-$1,000 launch package. Those features target users making brackets, housings, ducts, jigs, fixtures and other functional parts from materials that are harder to print than ordinary PLA.

The evidence available for this model consists of a 2026 Tom’s Hardware hands-on review and QIDI’s 2026 product listing. Tom’s Hardware called it “a great machine for large-scale prints in high-temperature filaments” and concluded that it was one of the best 3D printers it had seen. There is not yet a standardized, multi-month reliability statistic, so those comments should be treated as an expert evaluation rather than a statistical guarantee.

What are the QIDI Plus5’s key specifications?

The following figures are the manufacturer’s listed specifications unless otherwise noted. Dimensions, electrical requirements, maximum speeds, noise and warranty terms are not established in the supplied material and should be confirmed on the regional product page before purchase.

Specification QIDI Plus5 What it means in practice
Build volume 320 × 320 × 300 mm Enough space for large single-piece functional parts; Tom’s Hardware says this is 18% more volume than the Plus4.
Maximum nozzle temperature 370°C Provides headroom for high-temperature thermoplastics, provided the correct filament, nozzle and process settings are used.
Heated bed 120°C Supports adhesion and helps manage shrinkage in materials such as ABS, ASA, nylon and polycarbonate.
Active chamber heating 65°C Keeps the enclosed build environment warm for materials that are prone to warping or layer-stress problems.
Enclosure Fully enclosed Helps retain heat and separates the print from room drafts; it also contains a three-stage filtration system.
Leveling Automatic load-cell leveling Measures nozzle-to-bed contact rather than relying solely on a manually adjusted bed.
Connectivity LAN, Wi‑Fi and USB Supports network operation as well as local file transfer.
Interface 4-inch touchscreen Provides on-printer control for setup and print management.
Monitoring 1080p chamber camera Allows remote visual checks when used with the printer’s connected workflow.
Build surface Double-sided PEI flex plate Offers two usable surfaces and simplifies part removal by flexing the plate after cooling.
Filtration Three-stage air filtration Provides onboard filtration in the enclosed printer; it is not a substitute for appropriate room ventilation for every material.

How large can the QIDI Plus5 print?

The nominal build volume is 320 × 320 × 300 mm. In simple terms, that is the maximum rectangular envelope before accounting for skirts, brims, supports, first-layer margins or model geometry. It is large enough to avoid splitting many practical parts that would have to be divided on a typical desktop machine.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tom’s Hardware reports that the volume is 18% greater than the previous Plus4. The percentage is useful for understanding the generational change, but the supplied specifications do not state the Plus4’s exact dimensions, so it should not be converted into a guessed predecessor measurement.

What fits comfortably?

  • Large brackets, panels, ducts and equipment covers that would otherwise require multiple sections.
  • Functional prototypes where a continuous part is stronger or easier to assemble than a glued split design.
  • Jigs and fixtures that need a broad footprint but do not exceed 300 mm in height.

Usable space is always less than the headline envelope once you reserve room for adhesion aids and account for the shape of the model. Tall, narrow parts also require more attention to orientation and support than the raw dimensions suggest.

Does the QIDI Plus5 have a heated chamber?

Yes. QIDI lists active chamber heating to 65°C, in addition to a 120°C heated bed and a 370°C maximum nozzle temperature. This is a significant distinction from printers that merely have a passive enclosure warmed by the bed and hot end.

A warm chamber reduces temperature swings around the part. For materials that contract substantially as they cool, a stable chamber can reduce corner lift, layer separation and dimensional distortion. It does not eliminate those risks: filament moisture, cooling settings, part orientation, bed preparation and the material’s own shrinkage still matter.

Which materials can it print?

Tom’s Hardware and QIDI identify the Plus5 as suitable for ABS, ASA, PA/nylon, polycarbonate, TPU and related engineering materials. PETG is also listed among the natural high-temperature filament categories associated with the printer. These material names describe compatibility potential, not a guarantee that every brand or blend will print perfectly without tuning.

  • ABS and ASA: Benefit from the enclosure and heated chamber because they can warp when exposed to cool drafts. ASA is often selected when outdoor weather resistance matters.
  • PA/nylon: Can produce tough, wear-resistant parts, but it is especially sensitive to moisture. Dry filament and a tuned profile are essential.
  • Polycarbonate: Requires high temperatures and careful control of thermal gradients. The Plus5’s temperature ceiling and chamber heating provide the necessary platform, while the actual result depends on the specific PC formulation.
  • TPU: Flexible filament can be printed, but its feeding behavior and desired softness vary widely by formulation and print speed.
  • PETG: Usually less demanding than the materials above, yet it still benefits from a clean build surface and a profile matched to the spool.

A 370°C nozzle rating does not mean every component in the filament path is suitable for every exotic material. Check the spool maker’s recommended nozzle, bed and chamber ranges, and use a hardened or otherwise wear-resistant nozzle when the filament contains abrasive fibers. The supplied specifications do not state which nozzle material ships as standard.

How does setup and day-to-day operation work?

The Plus5 is designed to reduce manual calibration. Its load-cell system automatically measures the bed relationship, and the enclosed frame helps maintain a more consistent thermal environment than an open printer. You still need to assemble or position the machine carefully, prepare the build plate and choose a filament profile.

  1. Place the printer on a rigid, level surface. A large CoreXY machine can transmit motion into a flexible table, so a stable stand is part of print quality even though the exact footprint and weight are not stated here.
  2. Install and inspect the double-sided PEI flex plate. Clean the chosen surface using the procedure recommended for that plate and ensure it is seated flat before leveling.
  3. Load filament and run the printer’s initial calibration. The automatic load-cell routine is intended to establish the nozzle-to-bed relationship without a traditional manual corner-by-corner adjustment.
  4. Choose a material profile and verify drying requirements. Nylon, polycarbonate and many TPU formulations absorb moisture; a wet spool can cause bubbling, weak layers and inconsistent extrusion even when the printer is calibrated.
  5. Slice a small validation part before committing to a full-volume print. Confirm first-layer adhesion, wall quality, bridging and dimensional fit with the exact spool you plan to use.
  6. Use LAN, Wi‑Fi or USB according to your workflow. Network transfer is convenient for a workshop, while USB remains useful when the printer is isolated from a local network.
  7. Monitor the first layers through the 1080p chamber camera or at the machine. Remote viewing can reveal a detached brim or failed first layer early, but it does not replace supervision for a new material.

What is the rear-filament issue?

Tom’s Hardware identifies rear filament loading as awkward. The location can make changing spools, feeding stiff engineering filament and checking the path more cumbersome when the printer is installed close to a wall. Plan access behind the machine before you place it; otherwise a routine spool change may require moving the printer.

How good is the QIDI Plus5’s print quality?

The independent review’s overall verdict is strongly positive for large, high-temperature work, but the supplied evidence does not provide a standardized laboratory score, dimensional-error table or long-term failure rate. It is therefore reasonable to describe the Plus5 as a well-regarded high-temperature workhorse, not to promise a particular tolerance or success rate.

Print quality on a machine in this class is a system result. The rigid CoreXY arrangement, automatic load-cell leveling, heated bed and controlled chamber address major mechanical and thermal variables. The remaining variables include slicer settings, filament moisture, nozzle wear, cooling strategy, support design and the orientation of the part.

How should you evaluate it for engineering parts?

  • Print a flat calibration plate to check first-layer consistency across the 320 mm width.
  • Print a tall, thin test to observe whether the chamber and enclosure keep the part stable through the full 300 mm height.
  • Measure holes, bosses and mating surfaces with calipers rather than judging them visually.
  • Repeat the same test after drying a moisture-sensitive spool; a large change indicates the material, not necessarily the printer, was the limiting factor.
  • Keep a record of nozzle, bed, chamber and cooling settings for each filament family.

Is the QIDI Box worth buying for multicolor printing?

Buy the optional QIDI Box only if you accept that its color-swapping workflow is not yet dependable. Tom’s Hardware specifically reports that the accessory still does not swap colors reliably. That limitation is decisive for buyers whose primary goal is unattended multicolor production.

For single-color functional printing, the box is not necessary to use the Plus5. A conventional spool setup avoids adding a color-management component to an otherwise straightforward high-temperature workflow. If you need occasional color changes, weigh the value of convenience against the possibility of failed swaps, wasted filament and additional troubleshooting.

The Plus5’s heated chamber also changes the accessory decision. A color system that works acceptably for low-temperature decorative material may not offer the same convenience with flexible or engineering filaments. The available review does not establish reliable multicolor performance for those materials, so treat any claim of production-ready color automation as unverified.

How much does the QIDI Plus5 cost?

Tom’s Hardware reports a United States launch price of $749 for the standalone printer in 2026. The same review lists a $899 Combo launch price. QIDI’s European listing showed €749. These are launch figures tied to specific regions and dates, not a promise of today’s street price, tax treatment, shipping cost or bundle contents.

Launch listing Price Qualification
Standalone $749 United States launch price reported by Tom’s Hardware in 2026.
Combo $899 United States launch price reported by Tom’s Hardware in 2026; the supplied material does not enumerate every included item.
European listing €749 Price shown on QIDI’s EU listing; regional taxes, delivery and current availability may change the final total.

Budget for more than the printer itself. High-temperature materials cost more than basic PLA, nylon and polycarbonate often need drying, and large parts consume more filament and print time. If you are considering the QIDI Box, treat its price as an accessory decision rather than part of the minimum cost of operating the Plus5; the supplied material does not state a current accessory price.

How does the Plus5 compare with other buying options?

The meaningful comparison is not simply “which printer is fastest.” Match the machine to the material, part size and workflow you actually need. The Plus5’s strongest differentiator is the combination of a 320 mm build class and an actively heated 65°C chamber at a $749 United States launch price. Its clearest disadvantage is the unresolved color-swapping workflow.

Decision factor Why the Plus5 stands out Question to ask before choosing it
Large parts 320 × 320 × 300 mm volume Will your parts fit without splitting, supports or oversized brims?
High-temperature materials 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed and 65°C chamber Do your chosen filament profiles require those temperatures, and can you dry the material?
Thermal control Enclosure plus active chamber heating Can your workspace provide suitable ventilation and clearance around the enclosure?
Workflow Automatic load-cell leveling, touchscreen, camera and three connection methods Will rear filament access be practical in your intended location?
Multicolor Optional QIDI Box is available Can you tolerate unreliable color swaps, or is dependable color production essential?
Price $749 standalone at the US 2026 launch What will filament, drying, shipping, tax and accessories add in your region?

Because comparable temperature, enclosure, footprint and accessory figures for alternative models are not established here, a numerical head-to-head table would imply precision that the available evidence does not support. Compare those values directly on the current regional pages of any competing printer you are considering.

What should you check before ordering?

  1. Confirm the current price in your country rather than relying on the 2026 launch figures.
  2. Verify the printer’s external dimensions, weight, power requirements and clearance for the rear filament path.
  3. Confirm that your room can accommodate an enclosed, actively heated machine and that your ventilation plan matches the materials you intend to print.
  4. Check current regional warranty, return and spare-part terms.
  5. Price the filament, drying equipment and replacement wear parts alongside the printer.
  6. Decide whether you need the standalone machine or a bundle; do not assume the Combo contents without checking the listing.
  7. Buy the QIDI Box only after accepting that color swaps may fail and require intervention.

QIDI Plus5 review verdict: is it worth it?

The QIDI Plus5 is worth considering—and, for the right user, worth buying—because it combines a genuinely large build volume with the thermal hardware needed for demanding filaments at a launch price below $1,000. Its 370°C nozzle, 120°C bed, 65°C heated chamber, enclosure and automatic leveling address the problems that make large ABS, ASA, nylon and polycarbonate parts difficult on simpler printers.

The recommendation is narrower for multicolor users. The QIDI Box’s unreliable color swapping undermines the reason to pay for an automated color workflow, while rear filament access makes everyday loading less elegant than the headline specifications suggest. Treat the Plus5 as a high-temperature functional printer first and a multicolor platform second. On that basis, Tom’s Hardware’s assessment of it as one of the best high-temperature workhorses is consistent with the capabilities documented by QIDI.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the QIDI Plus5 print carbon-fiber nylon or other abrasive filaments?

The documented material list includes PA/nylon and related engineering plastics, but it does not specify the standard nozzle’s wear resistance. Carbon-fiber-filled filament can abrade ordinary nozzles, so verify the supplied hardware and plan an appropriate nozzle before committing to abrasive blends.

Does the Plus5 require an external ventilation system?

The printer includes a three-stage filtration system, but the available specifications do not define filtration efficiency for each material or room-size guidance. Follow the filament manufacturer’s safety information and local ventilation requirements instead of treating the filter as a universal substitute for exhaust.

Can I run the QIDI Plus5 without connecting it to Wi‑Fi?

Yes. The listed interfaces include USB as well as LAN and Wi‑Fi, so a local USB workflow is available. The available data does not state whether every camera or remote-management feature works without a network connection.

What is the maximum object height if I use a brim or raft?

The stated 300 mm height is the nominal build-volume limit. A brim or raft consumes space in the XY plane rather than reducing the Z limit directly, but the model, supports and any safety margins must still fit within the slicer’s usable envelope.

Has the QIDI Plus5 been proven reliable over several years?

No multi-month standardized reliability benchmark is established in the available evidence. The positive hands-on review supports its capability as tested, while long-term failure rates, maintenance intervals and ownership statistics remain an open purchasing consideration.
