To connect PULSE Explore wireless earbuds to a phone, turn on Bluetooth, place both earbuds in their charging case, then hold the case’s PlayStation Link button for about eight seconds until its indicator blinks blue. Select PULSE Explore in your phone’s Bluetooth settings. A solid blue case indicator confirms the connection.
These instructions are for PULSE Explore specifically; other PlayStation headsets or earbuds may use a different pairing process. The phone or tablet must support Bluetooth, and PlayStation cautions that compatibility is not guaranteed for every mobile device or feature.

How do I pair PULSE Explore with my phone?
Pair the earbuds from your phone’s Bluetooth settings while both earbuds are in their charging case. The case button puts PULSE Explore into Bluetooth pairing mode; the phone then completes the connection. You do not need a PlayStation console, a PlayStation Link USB adapter, or a separate app for this phone-pairing sequence.
- Open Bluetooth settings on your phone and switch Bluetooth on. Leave the device list open so you can select the earbuds as soon as they appear. On a tablet, use the same Bluetooth-device list.
- Place both PULSE Explore earbuds in the charging case. Keep both earbuds docked during the pairing process. The case is the control point for entering pairing mode.
- Press and hold the PlayStation Link button on the case for approximately eight seconds. Release it when the case indicator quickly blinks blue. That rapid blue blinking is the documented signal that the earbuds are ready to be discovered.
- Select “PULSE Explore” from the phone’s Bluetooth-device list. If the phone asks you to confirm the connection, follow its on-screen prompt and wait for the pairing result.
- Check the case indicator. It turns solid blue after the connection succeeds. A solid blue light is the useful confirmation that the phone has completed the Bluetooth connection.
The Bluetooth pairing search lasts up to 30 seconds. If the phone does not connect before that window ends, the earbuds turn off. Put both earbuds back in the case if necessary, then repeat the approximately eight-second button hold and select PULSE Explore again promptly.

What does the blue case light mean?
The light gives you a visual way to distinguish the two important stages. A quickly blinking blue indicator means PULSE Explore is in Bluetooth pairing mode and is waiting for the phone to select it. A solid blue indicator means the connection has succeeded.
Do not rely on the button press alone. If you held the button for roughly eight seconds but the indicator is not quickly blinking blue, the earbuds are not showing the documented pairing-mode signal. Start the sequence again with both earbuds docked, Bluetooth enabled on the phone, and the device list visible.
Is the procedure different for iPhone and Android?
The names and layout of Bluetooth menus vary between phones, but the PULSE Explore side of the procedure is the same: enable Bluetooth, dock both earbuds, hold the case’s PlayStation Link button for about eight seconds until the quick blue blink, and choose PULSE Explore. The research-supported requirement is a compatible mobile device that supports Bluetooth; PlayStation does not promise that every phone model, operating-system version, app, or function will work.
On either platform, open the list of available Bluetooth devices before entering pairing mode. This makes it easier to notice PULSE Explore during the maximum 30-second search window. If the name does not appear, do not wait indefinitely: repeat the case-button sequence and watch for the quick blue blink.
Do I need the PlayStation Link USB adapter to connect to a phone?
No. PULSE Explore connects directly to a compatible phone or tablet over Bluetooth, so the PlayStation Link USB adapter is not required for this setup. If you are buying the earbuds primarily for phone listening, the adapter is not a prerequisite for pairing them with the phone.
Bluetooth and PlayStation Link are separate connection methods:

Can I use PULSE Explore with my phone and a PlayStation device?
Yes. After Bluetooth pairing, PULSE Explore can also search for a previously paired PlayStation Link device that is ready to connect. When both connections are active, you can hear audio from the Bluetooth device and the PlayStation Link device at the same time.
This arrangement is useful when you want phone audio available while using a PlayStation Link connection. For example, the phone can remain paired over Bluetooth while a previously paired compatible PlayStation Link device is ready. The two links remain distinct: Bluetooth handles the phone, while PlayStation Link handles the supported console, computer, or Portal connection.
PlayStation states that simultaneous Bluetooth audio does not affect the latency of PlayStation Link audio. That statement applies to the PlayStation Link stream; it does not turn Bluetooth into a second PlayStation Link connection or allow several Bluetooth sources to play at once.
How do I control phone audio and volume?
When PULSE Explore is connected to a phone over Bluetooth, adjust Bluetooth audio volume on the phone itself. Use the phone’s volume controls or its on-screen Bluetooth volume control. The earbuds’ volume button controls PlayStation Link audio, not Bluetooth audio from the phone.
This distinction still matters when both connections are active. If phone Bluetooth audio and PlayStation Link audio are playing simultaneously, pressing the earbud volume button changes only the PlayStation Link level. To make the phone stream louder or quieter, change the volume on the phone.
The earbuds also have microphones that can be used for voice chat and other supported microphone functions. Whether a particular phone app uses the microphone as expected depends on the phone and app. Successful Bluetooth pairing does not guarantee that every app will expose every microphone or calling feature.
Why can’t my phone find PULSE Explore?
Usually, the earbuds are not in pairing mode, the pairing window has expired, or another previously paired device is reconnecting. Work through these checks in order rather than repeatedly scanning without changing the setup.

- Confirm Bluetooth is on. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings, switch Bluetooth on, and keep the device list open.
- Dock both earbuds. Put both PULSE Explore earbuds in the charging case before using the case button.
- Enter pairing mode deliberately. Press and hold the case’s PlayStation Link button for approximately eight seconds. Release it only when the case indicator quickly blinks blue.
- Look for the exact device name. Select “PULSE Explore” in the phone’s Bluetooth-device list. The quick blue blink is the signal to look for before selecting the name.
- Act within the pairing window. The earbuds search for a Bluetooth connection for up to 30 seconds. If they turn off before the phone connects, repeat the approximately eight-second hold.
- Check nearby paired devices. After pairing, the earbuds can search for a previously paired PlayStation Link device that is ready to connect. Temporarily disconnect that device or disable its relevant wireless connection, then repeat the phone-pairing steps.
- Check compatibility. The mobile device must support Bluetooth, and PlayStation cautions that not every device necessarily works with the earbuds. A visible device name or completed pairing does not establish that every audio or microphone feature is supported.
If the earbuds still do not appear, repeat the complete sequence from the beginning. Use the indicator as your checkpoint: no quick blue blink means pairing mode has not been confirmed, while a solid blue light indicates that a connection has succeeded.
What if PULSE Explore appears but will not connect?
Start a fresh pairing attempt instead of assuming that an old attempt is still active. Confirm that both earbuds are in the case, turn on the phone’s Bluetooth, hold the case button for about eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue, and select PULSE Explore during the 30-second search period.
If another previously paired device is ready, PULSE Explore may search for that PlayStation Link device after pairing. Temporarily disconnect the other device or turn off its Bluetooth connection while you complete the phone setup. Then repeat the supported sequence and wait for the solid blue confirmation.
Keep expectations realistic if the phone connects but a particular function does not work. PlayStation’s compatibility warning means that Bluetooth support on the phone is necessary, but it does not guarantee every audio route, microphone behavior, or app feature on every device.
Can I pair PULSE Explore with several phones?
PULSE Explore supports pairing with up to 10 Bluetooth devices. Pairing capacity means the earbuds can remember those Bluetooth devices for future connection attempts; it does not mean they can play audio from all of them simultaneously.
Only one Bluetooth device at a time can be connected and playing audio. If you pair a second phone, that phone does not create a second simultaneous Bluetooth audio stream. PlayStation Link is a separate connection, which is why a ready PlayStation Link device can be active alongside the one Bluetooth audio device.
What is the difference between pairing and connecting?
Pairing is the setup step in which the phone and earbuds identify and save each other as Bluetooth devices. It happens when you select PULSE Explore from the available-device list during the quick blue blink. Connecting is the active wireless session used for current audio playback.

That distinction explains the 10-device limit and the one-device playback limit. PULSE Explore can retain pairings for up to 10 Bluetooth devices, but only one Bluetooth device can be connected for audio at a time. A saved phone may therefore be paired without being the device currently supplying sound.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan I use the earbuds without a PlayStation console?
Yes. The phone procedure is a direct Bluetooth connection to PULSE Explore, and the PlayStation Link USB adapter is not needed. A console or computer becomes relevant only if you also want to use a supported PlayStation Link connection. For a phone-only setup, the essential hardware is the compatible Bluetooth phone or tablet, the earbuds, and their charging case.
Should I buy the PlayStation Link USB adapter for phone use?
Not for phone Bluetooth pairing alone. The adapter is a secondary purchase for readers who also want PlayStation Link connectivity with a PS5, PC, or Mac. It is relevant to those supported setups, but it is not part of the direct phone-pairing workflow and does not change the case-button steps.
What should I expect from Bluetooth pairing?
For a phone-only setup, the complete sequence is short but timing-sensitive:
- Enable Bluetooth on the phone.
- Place both PULSE Explore earbuds in the case.
- Hold the case’s PlayStation Link button for approximately eight seconds.
- Wait for the indicator to quickly blink blue.
- Select PULSE Explore within the up-to-30-second pairing search.
- Confirm the indicator becomes solid blue.
The phone then provides the Bluetooth audio connection. Control that audio from the phone, not from the earbuds’ volume button. If you later use a ready, previously paired PlayStation Link device, both connection types can operate together, and PlayStation says simultaneous Bluetooth audio does not affect PlayStation Link latency.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many phones can PULSE Explore remember over Bluetooth?
PlayStation documents pairing with up to 10 Bluetooth devices. That is the saved-pairing limit, not simultaneous playback: the earbuds connect to and play audio from only one Bluetooth device at a time.

Does Bluetooth phone audio affect PlayStation Link audio latency?
PlayStation states that simultaneous Bluetooth audio does not affect the latency of PlayStation Link audio. Bluetooth and PlayStation Link remain distinct connections even when both are in use.
Can I use the PULSE Explore microphone with my phone?
Both earbuds have microphones that can be used for voice chat and other supported microphone functions. Support can vary by mobile device and app, so Bluetooth pairing alone does not guarantee every app will use the microphone.
How long do I have to select PULSE Explore?
The earbuds remain in Bluetooth pairing mode for up to 30 seconds. If the phone does not connect during that period, the earbuds turn off; repeat the approximately eight-second case-button hold to try again.
What does a quickly blinking blue case light mean?
It indicates Bluetooth pairing mode. With Bluetooth enabled on the phone, select PULSE Explore from the device list while the indicator is quickly blinking blue.
What does a solid blue case light mean?
A solid blue indicator confirms that the Bluetooth connection has succeeded after you select PULSE Explore on the phone.
Is the PlayStation Link USB adapter required for a phone?
No. PULSE Explore connects directly to a compatible phone or tablet over Bluetooth. The adapter is relevant when you also want supported PlayStation Link connections to a PS5, PC, or Mac.
