Yes—you can publish an AI-generated website at no hosting cost without leaving your coding agent. First classify the output: a folder containing only HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and assets is a static site, while anything that needs a server, API, or database is an application. Use Netlify for the shortest agent-first path, Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages for Git-based automatic deployments, and Render when the project needs a runtime. Have your agent create a clean deployable folder, publish it through the matching service, then test the provider URL on desktop and mobile before sharing it.
What kind of website did your AI agent generate?
The files your agent produced determine which free publishing route will work. A static host can serve files but cannot execute server-side code, so choosing the host before checking the project is the most common avoidable mistake.

Static site: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets
A static site has an entry file such as index.html, stylesheets, browser-side scripts, images, fonts and other files that can be sent directly to a visitor. Landing pages, documentation, portfolios and many frontend projects fall into this category. Netlify, Cloudflare Pages and GitHub Pages are the clearest free choices.
Application: server, API or database required
If the generated project starts a server, handles requests privately, reads a database, processes payments, authenticates users or keeps secrets away from the browser, it needs an application-capable service. Render offers both a Static Site type and a Web Service type; choose Web Service when server-side behavior is required. A static host may display the frontend but will not run the backend.

Ask the agent for a deployable handoff
Before publishing, ask the agent to identify the framework, build command, output directory, start command (if any), required environment variables and the expected entry file. Ask it to remove local machine paths and to confirm that a static build really produces a top-level index.html in the directory you plan to upload.
Which free host fits an AI-generated website?
Choose based on the project’s runtime and how you want to work. The table separates the practical differences without assuming that today’s free-tier quotas will remain unchanged.
| Route | Best fit | Agent-friendly workflow | Default result | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Netlify | A static folder or AI-generated project | AI-tool integration, CLI, drag-and-drop, or anonymous CLI deployment | A live Netlify URL | An anonymous deployment is temporary; claim it if you intend to keep it |
| Cloudflare Pages | Static HTML or a Git-backed project | Connect GitHub or GitLab for automatic and preview deployments | A unique *.pages.dev project subdomain |
Set the correct output directory and keep a top-level index.html |
| GitHub Pages | A static project already stored in GitHub | GitHub Actions publishes on pushes to main |
A github.io user or project URL |
Repository and Pages visibility settings affect who can access the site |
| Render | An app needing a runtime, or a static site in a service workflow | Connect a Git provider and select Static Site or Web Service | A Render service URL | Use Web Service when server-side behavior is required |
Free plans, build minutes, bandwidth, retention, file-size limits and custom-domain rules can change. Check each provider’s current documentation immediately before launch rather than treating a free label as a permanent specification.
How do I publish a static folder with Netlify while staying in my agent?
Netlify is usually the shortest route when your agent has produced a local folder and you want a URL quickly. You can use its AI-tool integration, drag-and-drop workflow or CLI; an anonymous CLI deployment gives you a URL first and can be claimed later.
- Prepare the folder. Ask the agent to place the finished static files in one directory and verify that
index.htmlis at the directory root, not hidden inside an extra nested folder. - Check browser paths. Use relative paths such as
./styles.cssand./assets/logo.svgunless the project intentionally uses a configured base path. Case differences that are invisible on some local systems can break images after deployment. - Deploy from the project directory. Run the Netlify CLI command
netlify deploy --allow-anonymousfrom the folder your agent prepared. The command creates a live URL without requiring you to leave the terminal for account setup. - Record the URL and claim it if needed. Anonymous deployments are intended as temporary previews. If the site should remain available, follow Netlify’s claim flow and attach the deployment to an account before relying on the address.
- Use drag-and-drop when the CLI is inconvenient. Netlify also documents dragging the prepared folder into its deploy interface. This is useful when your agent cannot install or run a CLI but you can access the local files.
For repeatable work, ask the agent to keep the deployment command and project directory documented in the repository. That makes a later update a deliberate redeploy instead of an accidental upload of the wrong folder.
How do I deploy through Cloudflare Pages from a Git repository?
Cloudflare Pages is a strong choice when your project already lives in GitHub or GitLab and you want every push to produce a deployment, including previews for changes under review.

- Commit the generated project. Put the source files in a repository and push the branch you want to publish. Keep the intended public files and the build configuration under version control.
- Connect the repository. In Pages, choose the Git integration and authorize the GitHub or GitLab repository. Cloudflare supports automatic deployments on pushes and preview deployments for other branches or proposed changes.
- Set the build settings. Enter the framework’s build command when one exists and specify the exact output directory produced by that command. For a plain static folder, the output directory is the folder containing the top-level
index.html. - Deploy and open the project subdomain. A successful Pages deployment receives a unique
*.pages.devaddress. Open it before connecting any custom domain so you can separate application problems from DNS problems. - Use previews for agent changes. Have the agent work on a branch, let Pages create a preview, and merge only after links, assets and responsive layout pass your checks. The main branch then remains the stable version.
A blank or default page usually means the configured output directory is wrong, not that Pages cannot serve the project. Recheck where the build actually writes index.html, including capitalization.
How does GitHub Pages publish an AI-generated static project?
GitHub Pages hosts HTML, CSS and JavaScript directly from a repository. It is a natural fit when your agent already edits GitHub and you want a push to main to trigger publication through GitHub Actions.
- Put the site in a repository. Commit the generated source and any build configuration. Decide whether the repository itself should be public or private, because repository and Pages visibility choices affect who can reach the resulting site.
- Choose the Pages source. Configure Pages to use the repository’s deployment workflow rather than assuming that the source branch already contains final files. For framework projects, the workflow should install dependencies, run the build and publish the generated output.
- Deploy on pushes to
main. GitHub’s automation guidance supports a workflow that runs on every push tomainand produces a live Pages URL. Ask your agent to keep the workflow file in the repository so the process is reproducible. - Check the published path. A user site and a project site use different
github.ioURL shapes. If the project is served below a repository name, configure the frontend’s base path so links and assets include that prefix. - Review the Actions result. A green workflow does not guarantee that every client-side route works. Open the URL in a private window and test navigation, refreshes and asset loading.
GitHub Pages is for static output. If a page needs a private API key, server-side rendering or a database connection, keep that functionality on an application service and let Pages serve only the public frontend.
When should I choose Render instead of a static host?
Choose Render when the generated project has a server or when you prefer one Git-connected service workflow that can host either a static site or an application. Its first-deploy flow supports repository-backed projects and lets you select Static Site or Web Service.
Use Render Static Site for frontend output
Select Static Site when the repository builds files that can be served directly. Set the build command, publish directory and branch according to the project, then confirm that the publish directory contains the final index.html. This is useful when your team already uses Render for other services, even though Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages may be simpler for a purely static site.
Use Render Web Service for server behavior
Select Web Service when the project must start a process, answer API requests, perform server-side rendering or talk to a database. Provide the build and start commands, configure environment variables in the service settings and ensure the application listens on the port supplied by the platform rather than a hard-coded local-only port.

Keep frontend and backend responsibilities clear
An AI-generated repository may contain both a frontend and an API. You can publish the frontend on a static host and deploy the API as a Render Web Service, but then the frontend must call the deployed API address and handle cross-origin rules. If you are not ready to configure that split, deploy the complete application as a Web Service first.
How should I prepare an AI-generated project before deployment?
A short preflight prevents most failed deployments. Have the agent run these checks and report the result in plain language.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Entry file: confirm the static output contains a root-level
index.htmland that the document title is meaningful. - Build result: run the documented build command from a clean install and identify the exact output directory.
- Runtime decision: list every server process, API route, database, authentication provider and scheduled job. Any of these can make a static-only deployment incomplete.
- Environment variables: separate public configuration from secrets. Browser-exposed variables are not secret merely because their names are stored in an environment file.
- Asset references: check images, fonts, favicons and JavaScript imports for case-sensitive paths and incorrect absolute URLs.
- Client-side routing: identify whether refreshing a nested route needs a fallback rewrite supplied by the chosen host.
- License and content check: review generated text, images, fonts and code for permissions before making the site public.
What should I test on the live URL?
Open the provider’s preview or live address and test the deployed result, not just the local development server. A deployment is ready to share only after the core visitor journeys work.
- Load the home page in a private browser window and confirm there is no stale cached version.
- Click every primary navigation item, then refresh a nested URL directly to expose routing or rewrite errors.
- Inspect the browser console and network panel for missing CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts or failed API calls.
- Resize to a narrow mobile viewport and test menus, forms, buttons, horizontal scrolling and readable text.
- Submit forms with valid and invalid values. Confirm that success and error states are understandable and that no secret appears in the page source.
- Test the site from a second device or network. A local host file, cached asset or development proxy can hide a production-only failure.
- Check the final URL, page title, favicon and social preview metadata before distributing the link.
How do Git deployments and previews help an AI workflow?
Git-connected hosting turns each agent change into a reviewable version instead of overwriting the only working copy. Cloudflare Pages can create previews and status checks, while GitHub Actions can publish on pushes to main; Netlify’s CLI is convenient for direct folder deployments.
Keep the stable site on main and have the agent create a branch for a feature or redesign. Review the preview URL, compare the changed files, and merge only after the live checks pass. If a change breaks production, revert the commit and redeploy the known-good revision rather than asking the agent to patch an unknown state on the server.
Save the host settings, build command, output directory and required variables in the repository documentation. This prevents a future agent session from publishing a source directory instead of the compiled site.

What free-tier limits and costs should I verify?
The publishing routes above can provide a no-cost starting point, but “free” does not describe a permanent capacity guarantee. Before launch, read the current provider terms for the service and region you will use.
| Check | Why it matters | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Build minutes | Frequent agent commits can exhaust a monthly build allowance | Included minutes, reset date and overage behavior |
| Bandwidth and requests | Images, downloads and traffic spikes consume transfer quotas | Included transfer, request limits and throttling policy |
| Storage and file size | Generated media or large bundles may exceed upload limits | Per-file and total storage limits |
| Retention and sleeping | Temporary previews or idle services may be removed or paused | Retention period, sleep behavior and wake-up delay |
| Custom domains and TLS | A provider URL and a branded domain can have different requirements | Current domain, certificate and DNS rules |
| Visibility and access | Repository privacy and service settings determine who can view the site | Public, private, preview and authentication behavior |
Do not put a production workload, sensitive customer data or a guaranteed uptime requirement on an unexamined free tier. Treat the initial deployment as a controlled launch and set a reminder to review usage before the site gains traffic.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do I fix common deployment failures?
Most failures map to a small set of configuration mistakes. Identify the symptom first, then correct the matching setting.
The host shows a 404 or default page
Check that the selected publish directory contains index.html directly. If a build created dist, build or another directory, point the host there rather than at the repository root.
The page loads without styles or images
Inspect the network errors and compare each URL with the deployed file name. Correct case mismatches, broken relative paths and framework base-path settings; then rebuild so the corrected references are included.
The build fails but local development works
Ask the agent to reproduce the build in a clean environment and report the missing dependency, unsupported runtime version or required environment variable. Pin compatible versions where appropriate and keep secrets in the host’s variable settings, not in committed files.

Client-side links work until refresh
The browser can navigate within a single-page app without the server knowing each route, but a direct refresh asks the host for that path. Configure the host’s documented fallback or rewrite to the app entry file, or use file-based routes that the static server can serve.
API calls fail after deployment
Verify that the frontend is not still calling localhost, that the API service is running, and that its cross-origin policy allows the deployed frontend origin. Keep private credentials on the server and rotate any key that was accidentally exposed in a public bundle.

Which route should I pick for my project?
Use this decision sequence when you want a quick, defensible choice.
- Only static files? Choose Netlify for the fastest local-folder or agent/CLI launch, Cloudflare Pages for GitHub/GitLab previews and automatic deployments, or GitHub Pages when the repository and Actions workflow are already central to your process.
- Needs a server, API or database? Choose Render Web Service, or split the frontend and backend only when you are prepared to configure API URLs, secrets and cross-origin access.
- Already using a repository? Prefer a Git-connected route so each accepted agent change can be reviewed and redeployed consistently.
- Need a temporary demonstration? Netlify’s anonymous CLI deployment or a provider preview can give you a shareable URL, but claim or retain it only after checking the provider’s current retention terms.
The best free route is the one that matches the generated project’s execution model and leaves you with a repeatable update path. A live URL is the beginning of verification, not proof that the AI-generated site is production-ready.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I publish an AI-generated site without creating a Git repository?
Yes. A local static folder can be uploaded through Netlify’s drag-and-drop workflow or deployed with its anonymous CLI option. This is convenient for a one-off preview, but a repository gives you history, reviewable changes and easier recovery.
Can GitHub Pages run a React or other frontend framework project?
Yes, if the project is built into static HTML, CSS and JavaScript first. Configure an Actions workflow to install dependencies, run the build and publish the generated output; GitHub Pages will not execute the framework’s server process.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Where should API keys go in an AI-generated project?
Keep secret keys in the server-side environment settings of the application service, never in frontend source or a browser bundle. If a key has already been committed or shipped to the browser, revoke it and issue a replacement before publishing.
Can I use a custom domain on a free deployment?
Possibly, but support, DNS setup, certificate behavior and any restrictions vary by provider and can change. Verify the current service documentation and test the provider URL first so domain configuration does not obscure an application problem.
