What should I check on the new box first?

PS5-labeled package
A PS5 label means you are dealing with a different edition. Check whether the physical package is a PS5 disc, a cross-generation bundle, or a PS4 disc marketed alongside PS5 compatibility. The label on the actual box and the console model you own matter more than a retailer’s shortened title.
Digital entitlement

Will a physical PS4 re-release work on PS5?
It can, provided the specific PS4 edition is supported and your PS5 has a disc drive. Sony’s official wording is direct: “PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.”
- Confirm the platform. Read the box spine, back panel and product listing. It should identify the PS4 edition, not merely the original PS2 game.
- Confirm the console. You need a PS5 model with an optical drive. The PS5 Digital Edition has no disc reader.

A physical PS4 purchase and catalog access also behave differently. A disc is tied to possession of that disc and generally remains usable while the console and software support it. Catalog access is conditional on the title remaining in the service and on maintaining the eligible subscription. Neither option establishes that a PC version exists.
What if the box or listing says PS5?
