If you see a PlayStation Store charge you don’t recognize, first check the specific transaction in Transaction History. Then check for subscription renewals, family purchases, duplicate charges, and other PlayStation accounts using the same payment method. If the charge remains unexplained, secure your account and contact PlayStation Support through its Unauthorized Payments route. An ordinary refund button or 14-day cancellation rule is not a guarantee that a disputed charge will be refunded.
This guide covers Sony’s US process and policy as verified October 30, 2026. Support channels and on-screen workflows can change, so confirm the current options on Sony’s pages when you contact it.

What should I do first about an unfamiliar PlayStation Store charge?
Identify the transaction before treating it as fraud. A charge may be a renewal, a purchase by a family member, or a transaction on another PlayStation account that uses the same card. If none of those explains it, use Sony’s Unauthorized Payments support route and protect both your PlayStation account and the email account tied to it.
- Find the transaction. Check Transaction History on the account or device you use for PlayStation Store.
- Check likely explanations. Review subscriptions and family purchases, look for duplicates, and check other PlayStation accounts that may share the payment method.
- Choose the right route. Report a genuinely unrecognized payment to PlayStation Support. Use the transaction-level Request Refund flow for an eligible purchase you want to cancel under the ordinary Store policy.
- Secure your accounts. If access or account-change notices seem suspicious, change your email password and PlayStation sign-in credentials. If you’re locked out, use Sony’s recovery or Support process.
Do not assume that an absent Request Refund button decides a fraud report. Sony’s unauthorized-payment instructions direct account holders to Support when a charge remains unexplained.

How do I check PlayStation Store Transaction History?
Open Transaction History for the relevant PlayStation account, select an appropriate date range, and open the charge to see its details. The web history defaults to a two-year range; expand the range if you’re looking for an older transaction.
- Web: Sign in to Account Management, then go to Transaction History. Choose dates and open the transaction. Its detail screen may show Request Refund.
- PS5: Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History. Select the account and date range, then open the transaction.
- PS4: Go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History. Select the account and dates, then open the transaction.
- PlayStation App: Open the PlayStation Store icon, tap the menu icon, then choose Transaction History. Select a date range and transaction.
Sony’s console instructions specify that only the family manager can see family members’ transaction histories. If a purchase may have come from a child account, ask the family manager to check.
What should I check before reporting a charge as unauthorized?
Compare the charge with subscriptions, family activity, and every PlayStation account that could be using the payment method. Those checks can explain a charge that looks unfamiliar without establishing that anyone accessed your account improperly.
Subscription renewals
In Account Management, open Subscription and check active subscriptions and their next payment dates. A renewal can appear as a new charge even when you did not make a new one-time purchase. Canceling a subscription stops future renewals; it does not by itself refund past charges. Removing the card from the account also does not cancel the subscription.
Family purchases and spending limits
Ask whether a child made a purchase using the family wallet. A child account’s spending limit starts at zero when the account is created, but the family manager can change it. Check the relevant account history rather than assuming a family purchase is—or is not—authorized.
Other accounts and duplicates
Check other PlayStation accounts that use the same card or payment method, and compare the dates and amounts for possible duplicate charges. If a charge still has no explanation, proceed through Sony’s Unauthorized Payments support route instead of treating a routine cancellation form as a fraud investigation.

How do I report a genuinely unauthorized payment?
Use PlayStation Support’s dedicated Unauthorized Payments route for a charge that remains unexplained after you check the relevant accounts. Sony’s US Contact Support page lists PS Store & Refunds > Unauthorized Payments; its unauthorized-payment guidance also directs customers with unexplained charges to Support.
- Open Sony’s US Contact Support page and look for PS Store & Refunds > Unauthorized Payments. If the page presents a different current workflow, follow its current instructions.
- Explain which payment is unfamiliar and provide the transaction details Sony requests. Keep the date, amount, statement description, and any related order information available.
- If you can still access your account, review security settings and sign out of active sessions as described below. If you are locked out or see an account-change notice you did not request, use Sony’s recovery or Support route promptly.
Sony says, “PlayStation Support can only discuss these charges with the account holder.” Don’t describe a suspected fraud charge as a changed-mind cancellation: the routes address different situations, and a specific outcome depends on Sony’s investigation and applicable law.
If you don’t have a PlayStation account
Sony says that someone without an account who suspects payment-card fraud should contact the card provider and report the matter to law enforcement. Its support team says it can discuss account charges only with the account holder. If someone may have used your email or payment details, Sony’s compromised-account guidance also says to contact Support promptly.
Which refund or support route fits my situation?
Use Unauthorized Payments for a genuinely unrecognized charge, Request Refund for an eligible Store purchase you want to cancel, and subscription settings to stop future renewals. If you have no PlayStation account and suspect card fraud, contact your card provider; that does not replace Sony’s guidance for account-related concerns.

What are the US PlayStation Store refund rules?
Sony’s ordinary cancellation policy varies by purchase type. The standard 14-day period for some purchases is a changed-mind cancellation rule with conditions—not a promise of a refund for a suspected unauthorized payment.
Games and add-ons
Sony’s US policy generally allows cancellation of a game or add-on within 14 days of purchase if download or streaming has not begun. Faulty-content and applicable-law qualifications apply, and season passes, in-game consumables, promotional bundles, and pre-orders have distinct conditions. An automatic download or pre-load can affect eligibility. Review Sony’s refund instructions for the purchase type before submitting an ordinary cancellation request.

Subscriptions
Sony’s ordinary refund checklist covers an initial subscription payment within 14 days, with any refund potentially reduced to account for use. That is separate from canceling the subscription to prevent the next renewal. Use Account Management > Subscription to manage renewals, and do not assume that deleting a saved card will stop billing for an active subscription.
Wallet top-ups
Sony’s Store policy says wallet top-ups cannot be canceled and wallet funds are non-refundable and non-transferable except where law requires. That ordinary rule does not conclusively decide every suspected-fraud or legal-rights question: report suspected unauthorized wallet funding rather than assuming a routine top-up rule settles the claim.

Approved ordinary refunds
Sony’s FAQ says an approved Store refund may take 30 to 60 days and normally goes back to the original payment method when possible; otherwise, it may go to the Store wallet. This stated timing concerns an approved Store refund, not a promise about the timing or outcome of an unresolved unauthorized-payment report.
How can I secure my PlayStation account after a suspicious charge?
If account access or an email-change notice seems suspicious, secure the email account as well as the PlayStation account. Changing only one password may leave another important access point exposed.
- Change the email password and PlayStation sign-in credentials. If you cannot sign in or someone changed account details, use Sony’s recovery or Support process.
- End active PlayStation sessions. In Account Management, go to Security > Sign Out on All Devices. This ends active device sessions; it does not replace changing compromised credentials.
- Review stored payment methods. Consider removing them after you have identified the affected accounts and addressed the charge. Removing a payment method does not cancel an active subscription.
- Set future purchase controls deliberately. Review family spending limits and checkout security settings, bearing in mind the exceptions below.
Sony recommends passkeys as an account-security option. Its Password at Checkout guidance says that checkout password protection does not cover wallet funding or child-account purchases. Sony’s security guidance also says Password at Checkout is incompatible with accounts using passkeys. Don’t tell readers to enable both settings together: choose the security setup that fits the account and review Sony’s current guidance.
Can a bank chargeback affect a PlayStation account?
Yes. Sony says that a reversal made through a financial institution can lead to an account or console restriction while Sony investigates. That warning is not a reason to avoid contacting your card provider when you are facing actual card fraud; it is a reason to understand that a payment reversal can have separate account consequences.

If you contact your card provider, explain what you know accurately and follow its process. Separately, report the suspected PlayStation transaction to Sony through the Unauthorized Payments route. Do not treat either contact as a guarantee about the other party’s decision.

Have your PlayStation Online ID, sign-in email, and purchase name available for a refund inquiry. For account recovery, Sony may also ask for a console serial number and recent transaction information, such as an order number, item, price, and date. Provide only information requested through Sony’s official support channels, and keep records of the charge and your communications.
If you are unsure whether you are on the correct route, return to Sony’s official US support pages rather than sharing account details with an unsolicited contact.
How do I submit an ordinary refund request?
For an eligible purchase you want to cancel under the normal Store policy, start from the transaction itself. This is not the same as reporting a charge you believe someone made without authorization.

- Follow the prompts. Check the product-specific conditions, including whether a download, stream, pre-load, or use has begun.
- If the button is absent or the online flow fails, contact PlayStation Support; Sony’s refund page also refers to an online assistant.
If you are reporting an unexplained charge, use the Unauthorized Payments route even if the ordinary Request Refund control is missing. The presence or absence of that control is not, by itself, a decision on a fraud report.

- Fourteen days: the usual US cancellation window for games and add-ons, subject to download, product-specific, and other conditions. It is not a fraud-refund guarantee.
- Thirty to 60 days: the possible wait Sony states for an approved Store refund. It is not a promised timeline for an unresolved unauthorized-charge claim.
Sony does not provide a named estimate of how many unauthorized PlayStation Store transactions occur. These figures should not be used to infer the likelihood of fraud or refund approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see a PlayStation purchase that is more than two years old?
Sony describes two years as the default range displayed in online Transaction History, not as a limit on how far back history exists. Expand the date range in the history interface; if you still cannot locate the transaction, ask the account holder or contact Sony Support.

What if a child bought something using my PlayStation account?
Ask the family manager to check the relevant family member’s transaction history and review the child account’s spending limit. Sony says that limit begins at zero when a child account is created, but a family manager can change it.
Can I use Password at Checkout if my PlayStation account has a passkey?
Sony says Password at Checkout is not compatible with accounts that have passkeys set up. Review Sony’s current security guidance and choose a compatible account-protection approach rather than trying to enable both.
