PlayStation Pulse and PULSE 3D are different headsets. Sony announced the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset in September 2026, with a select-market launch planned for the 2026 holiday season. PULSE 3D is the existing model with documented PS5 and PS4 support, adjustable PS5 EQ presets, a wireless adapter and a 3.5 mm cable. If you need a headset now, check local PULSE 3D stock and price; if you want the newer model’s planar magnetic drivers and simultaneous supported Bluetooth connection, wait for confirmed local availability and pricing. Sony had not announced the new headset’s exact launch date or price in the official information checked on October 25, 2026.

What is the difference between PlayStation Pulse and PULSE 3D?

The names refer to separate products, not two names for the same headset. The PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset is a newly announced model with planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link and simultaneous connection to supported Bluetooth devices. The PULSE 3D Wireless Headset is the older model, with an included wireless adapter, dual hidden microphones, PS5 EQ controls and a listed 3.5 mm cable.

Sony announced the new headset on September 15, 2026, saying it would launch in select markets starting in the 2026 holiday season. That announcement did not provide a precise launch date, price or preorder date. PULSE 3D has an official product page, but that alone does not guarantee it is in stock or available at a particular price where you live. Check local listings before deciding. Sony’s announcement and the PULSE 3D product page establish different feature sets, not a measured winner.

Feature PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset PULSE 3D Wireless Headset
Status Announced September 15, 2026; select-market launch planned to start in the 2026 holiday season. Exact date and price were not supplied in the announcement. Existing product with an official PlayStation page. Local stock and price depend on current listings.
Drivers and audio description Custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers. Sony says they deliver fuller, deeper bass while preserving clarity and describes the sound as spatially accurate. Officially described as fine-tuned for PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech in supported games; planar magnetic drivers are not listed.
Wireless connection PlayStation Link, with an included USB Type-C adapter. Sony lists PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac among supported Link devices, plus simultaneous connection to supported Bluetooth devices. 2.4 GHz wireless adapter for PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows or macOS computers.
Other wired connection No wired connection detail was included in the announcement. 3.5 mm cable listed for PS VR and mobile devices.
Microphone Integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection. Two hidden microphones with noise-cancelling technology.
Controls and customization Built-in volume control is listed in the announcement’s feature table. PS5 EQ presets, mic mute, master volume, game/chat mix and mic monitoring. The presets include three defaults and three user slots.
Battery No battery-life figure was given in the reviewed announcement. Up to 12 hours of wireless play; the manual specifies measurement at mid volume and says actual time varies with conditions.
Weight No weight figure was given in the reviewed announcement. Approximately 292 g, according to the official instruction-manual search result.

The new model’s sound and noise-rejection descriptions come from Sony, not independent listening or microphone tests. Sony Vice President of Engineering Joe Bentley described the planar-driver design as delivering “exceptional sound separation and spatial accuracy”; treat that as the manufacturer’s product description, not a comparative result. No comparative benchmark or independent listening comparison is established here.

  • PULSE Elite wireless headset comes with PlayStation Link USB adapter, PULSE Elite charging hanger, Carrying case, Mounting plate, USB cable and Printed materials
  • PlayStation Link wireless connection for PlayStation 5 consoles, PlayStation Portal remote player and PC / Mac

  • USB Type-C port for charging

Which headset should you choose?

Choose based on when you need a headset, which connections matter to you, and the confirmed local price—not on an untested claim that one sounds better. The new model’s announced feature set may suit someone who values planar magnetic drivers and simultaneous Link and Bluetooth connectivity, while PULSE 3D has more fully documented controls and platform details.

Choose PULSE 3D if you need a documented option now

  • You want a headset with published PS5 and PS4 compatibility and an included adapter for wireless use.
  • You want the listed PS5 EQ presets, game/chat mix, mic monitoring, mic mute and master-volume controls.
  • You need a 3.5 mm cable connection for PS VR or mobile devices, as listed on the official product page.
  • You want a published battery estimate: up to 12 hours, qualified by the manual as measured at mid volume with actual time varying by conditions.
  • You prefer to make a decision using a currently listed product rather than waiting for a launch announcement to become a retail listing.

Those points describe the product documentation, not a guarantee that PULSE 3D is the best fit for every player. Confirm that the headset is actually available in your region and compare the current price with other options before buying. Because the adapter is included, compare the complete package rather than comparing a bare headset price with a product that requires a separate wireless dongle.

Wait for the PlayStation Pulse if its announced connections and drivers are priorities

  • You are interested in Sony’s custom studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers.
  • You want PlayStation Link plus the possibility of simultaneously connecting to supported Bluetooth devices.
  • You want an integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection, as described by Sony.
  • You use a mix of PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac and want one announced Link-based connection approach across those platforms.

Waiting is the practical choice if those features are what you want and you do not need to buy immediately. Sony’s announcement was limited to a select-market holiday-season launch, and it did not give a precise date or price. Confirm that the headset has reached your market and that its actual price suits you before treating it as a purchase option. Do not assume that a holiday-season announcement means every country receives stock on the same day.

Do not choose on comfort or sound superiority without a direct comparison

The available product descriptions do not establish which headset sounds better in a controlled comparison, which microphone performs better in real chat, or which one is more comfortable over a long session. Sony’s description of the new drivers is a design and performance claim, not an independent test. The PULSE 3D specifications likewise do not establish how its fit compares with the new headset.

Comfort is especially difficult to infer from a specification sheet. The older headset has a stated weight of approximately 292 g, but no equivalent weight is stated for PlayStation Pulse. Headband pressure, ear-cup shape, glasses clearance and heat can matter as much as mass, so look for a return policy or an opportunity to try the final model if fit is a deciding factor.

How do the wireless connections and platform support compare?

The clearest connection distinction is PlayStation Link and supported Bluetooth on the new model versus an included 2.4 GHz wireless adapter on PULSE 3D. Both have stated computer support, but the official descriptions differ on the other devices and wired options they name.

PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset: Link plus supported Bluetooth

Sony says the new headset connects to PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac through PlayStation Link using the included USB Type-C adapter. It also says the headset can connect simultaneously to supported Bluetooth devices. That could be useful if you want game audio over Link while keeping a phone or another supported device connected, but the announcement does not establish the behavior of every app, phone or operating-system combination.

The announcement does not establish that every Bluetooth device or every Link-compatible device will work in every configuration, so check the supported-device information for the particular setup you plan to use. Sony’s Pulse Audio overview also describes Link, Bluetooth and supported devices. Treat “simultaneous” as a stated capability, not a promise that game and phone audio will be mixed exactly as you prefer in every application.

PULSE 3D: adapter-based wireless and a listed 3.5 mm cable

The PULSE 3D product page lists its 2.4 GHz wireless adapter for PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows and macOS computers. It also lists a 3.5 mm cable for PS VR and mobile devices. The named cable use cases should not be stretched into a promise of compatibility with every device that has a headphone socket. Check whether your phone, tablet or VR setup accepts the supplied cable and whether you need any additional adapter.

PULSE 3D’s adapter-based design is straightforward for a console that has a free compatible USB port, but the adapter occupies a port while in use. The official pages do not state a wireless range, latency measurement or multi-device switching method, so do not infer those qualities from the 2.4 GHz label alone. Similarly, PlayStation Link is a different wireless system from the PULSE 3D adapter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you plan to move between a console and another device, write down the exact devices and connection method you need before buying. The two headsets do not share an announced connection method: a PULSE 3D adapter is not the same as PlayStation Link, and the reviewed announcement does not say that the new headset includes or supports the older adapter.

What do the microphone and chat controls tell you?

PULSE 3D has the more extensively specified set of chat adjustments: the official product page lists two hidden microphones, mic mute, game/chat mix and mic monitoring. Sony describes the new headset’s microphone as integrated with AI-enhanced noise rejection, but the announcement does not list the same set of chat controls.

These specifications tell you what controls are documented, not which microphone will sound clearer to friends. No independent voice samples or comparative microphone measurements are established here. If being able to adjust game/chat balance or hear mic monitoring matters to you, PULSE 3D’s published controls are a concrete point to weigh; if AI-enhanced noise rejection is your priority, the new model’s announcement is the relevant claim to verify against hands-on reports once available.

Do not read “hidden microphones” as proof that PULSE 3D rejects more noise, or “AI-enhanced” as proof that PlayStation Pulse will sound better in every room. Background keyboards, fans, televisions and different voice levels can change results. The only defensible comparison at this stage is that Sony specifies two different microphone approaches and provides a longer list of physical chat functions for PULSE 3D.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How does PS5 EQ customization differ?

PULSE 3D’s official listing is unusually specific about PS5 sound controls. It provides three default EQ presets and three user slots, along with master volume, game/chat balance, mic mute and mic monitoring. That gives you documented ways to tailor the headset on PS5 without relying on a separate computer application.

The PlayStation Pulse announcement lists built-in volume control, but it does not provide an equivalent list of EQ presets, user slots, game/chat mixing or mic monitoring. The absence of a feature in the announcement is not proof that the retail headset lacks it; it means only that Sony had not specified it there. If custom EQ is central to your decision, wait for the final manual or product page rather than assuming the new headset duplicates PULSE 3D’s controls.

EQ presets are also a preference tool, not an audio-quality benchmark. A player who prefers a bass-heavy profile may choose a different preset from someone who wants dialogue clarity. Since Sony does not publish a controlled comparison between the two headsets, the practical advantage is the certainty of PULSE 3D’s documented options, not a claim that its presets sound better.

How should you interpret PULSE 3D’s battery and weight figures?

PlayStation lists PULSE 3D battery life as up to 12 hours of wireless play, while the instruction manual’s figure is qualified as measured at mid volume. The manual also says actual battery time varies with conditions, so regard 12 hours as an upper-end stated estimate rather than guaranteed time between charges. Higher volume, wireless activity and usage patterns may reduce real runtime, but Sony does not provide a universal replacement figure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The manual search result gives the headset’s weight as approximately 292 g. That number is useful when comparing listed specifications, but it does not predict comfort by itself. A lighter headset can still feel tight, while a heavier one can distribute pressure well; no fit test is established for either model in the official announcement.

Sony’s announcement for the new PlayStation Pulse did not state a battery-life or weight figure. That means you cannot use the available figures to conclude that the new model lasts longer, weighs less or is more comfortable. If battery endurance, weight or fit is decisive, wait for those specifications and, where possible, assess the fit in person rather than infer it from driver design.

What does planar magnetic mean here?

Sony identifies PlayStation Pulse’s drivers as custom, studio-inspired planar magnetic drivers and says the larger drivers bring fuller, deeper bass while preserving clarity. Joe Bentley, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Vice President of Engineering, described the design as delivering “exceptional sound separation and spatial accuracy.” Those are Sony’s stated design and performance claims.

Planar magnetic construction alone does not prove that one headset will sound better to every listener. Tuning, seal, software processing, game audio, fit and personal preference all affect what you hear. PULSE 3D is officially described as fine-tuned for PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech in supported games, but Sony does not publish a direct frequency-response, distortion or spatial-accuracy comparison between the generations.

For buyers, the useful distinction is therefore about the technology Sony chose to highlight, not a guaranteed ranking. Choose PlayStation Pulse for interest in that driver design once price and availability are confirmed; choose PULSE 3D if its documented PS5 audio integration and controls meet your needs today.

What should you check before buying either headset?

Use the current local listing as the final check: product names can be easy to confuse, and the new headset’s announcement does not itself confirm that it is on sale or preorder in your market. A quick checklist can prevent buying the wrong generation or assuming a connection that the product page does not promise.

  1. Match the exact name. Look for “PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset” for the announced 2026 model and “PULSE 3D Wireless Headset” for the existing model. Be cautious with listings that shorten both names to “Pulse.”
  2. Confirm local availability and full price. The new model was announced for select markets, with no exact date or price in the announcement. Check the listing for your country rather than relying on a general launch statement. Include taxes, delivery and any required accessory when comparing totals.
  3. Check each intended connection. For the new headset, verify Link support for your device and Bluetooth support for the device you intend to pair. For PULSE 3D, check whether you will use its adapter or one of the listed 3.5 mm cable use cases.
  4. Confirm what is in the box. PULSE 3D’s official description lists its wireless adapter and 3.5 mm cable. The new announcement lists a USB Type-C adapter for Link. Do not assume cables, adapters or a detachable microphone that Sony has not listed.
  5. Compare the controls you will actually use. If you need EQ presets, game/chat mix or mic monitoring, those are listed for PULSE 3D on PS5. The new announcement lists a built-in volume control but does not provide an equally detailed control list.
  6. Separate published specifications from untested performance. A driver description, noise-rejection feature and stated battery figure do not by themselves prove better sound, clearer chat, longer real-world runtime or greater comfort.
  7. Check return and warranty terms. Fit and microphone quality cannot be established from the announcement. A retailer’s return policy is valuable if you cannot try the headset before purchase; terms vary by country and seller.

Which headset fits common buying situations?

For a PS5-only player

Both products are positioned for PS5, but the decision turns on timing and controls. PULSE 3D has documented PS5 EQ presets, game/chat mix, mic monitoring and up to 12 hours of stated wireless play. PlayStation Pulse offers the newer Link system and planar-driver claim, but its price, battery figure and exact availability were not supplied in the announcement. Buy PULSE 3D when the documented feature set is enough; wait when the new connection system is the reason you are upgrading.

For a PS4 owner

PULSE 3D’s official page explicitly lists PS4 support through its wireless adapter. The PlayStation Pulse announcement names PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac for PlayStation Link, but it does not list PS4. Do not assume PS4 compatibility from the PlayStation brand; verify a final support page before choosing the new model for an older console.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a PC or Mac user

Both products have some form of stated computer support: PlayStation Pulse lists PC and Mac through Link, while PULSE 3D lists compatible Windows and macOS computers through its 2.4 GHz adapter. Compatibility is not the same as identical setup or feature behavior. Confirm the operating system, available USB port and the functions you need, such as chat mixing or monitoring.

For a PlayStation Portal owner

Sony specifically names PlayStation Portal among the supported Link devices for the new PlayStation Pulse. PULSE 3D’s product page does not list Portal in the same connection description. That makes PlayStation Pulse the more directly documented choice for Portal, subject to the product actually being available in your market and receiving a confirmed price.

For someone who needs a phone or PS VR cable

PULSE 3D’s official page lists a 3.5 mm cable for PS VR and mobile devices. The new announcement does not include a wired-connection detail, so do not buy it expecting a cable mode until Sony publishes that specification. If a physical cable is essential, PULSE 3D currently has the clearer documented case.

What is still unknown about the new PlayStation Pulse?

As of October 25, 2026, Sony’s announcement establishes a planned select-market holiday-season launch and a feature list, but not the key purchase details needed to compare final value. In particular, it does not state the exact date, price, battery life, weight or preorder timing. Sony said those details would come later; until they are published, estimates should not be treated as confirmed specifications.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available material also does not establish a head-to-head audio or microphone result, fit comparison, or compatibility between the new model and the PULSE 3D adapter. It does not specify a detachable boom microphone, a wired mode, wireless range, charging time or an exact Bluetooth device list either. Those are meaningful open questions for buyers, but they do not change the basic distinction: PULSE 3D’s documented features can be evaluated now, while the new model’s purchase case depends on local availability and details still to be confirmed.

When Sony publishes the final listing, revisit the comparison rather than relying on the announcement alone. Confirm whether the final regional package, support list and controls match the feature table, then compare the total price with PULSE 3D and competing headsets available in your country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the PULSE 3D wireless adapter with the new PlayStation Pulse headset?

The September 2026 announcement describes the new headset as using PlayStation Link with its included USB Type-C adapter; it does not say that the PULSE 3D adapter is compatible. Check Sony’s final support information for the new model rather than assuming the adapters are interchangeable.

Does PULSE 3D’s 12-hour battery estimate apply at any volume?

No such guarantee is stated: the official manual qualifies the estimate as measured at mid volume and says actual runtime varies with conditions. Higher-volume use should not be assumed to deliver the same runtime.

Will the new PlayStation Pulse include a detachable microphone boom?

Sony describes an integrated microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection, but the announcement does not specify a boom, whether it detaches, or a boom-microphone design. Those details would need confirmation in the final product specifications.

Does the new PlayStation Pulse work with PS4?

PS4 is not named in Sony’s announcement feature table. PULSE 3D is explicitly listed for PS4 through its wireless adapter. Verify the new model’s final compatibility information before buying it for PS4.

Can I connect PlayStation Pulse to a phone and PS5 at the same time?

Sony says the new headset supports simultaneous connection to supported Bluetooth devices while using PlayStation Link. The announcement does not define every phone, app or audio-mixing behavior, so confirm support for your specific setup.

Does PULSE 3D work with PlayStation Portal?

The PULSE 3D product description names PS5, PS4 and compatible Windows or macOS computers for its adapter. PlayStation Portal is not named in that list. Sony specifically names Portal as a supported Link device for the new PlayStation Pulse, subject to regional availability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which headset has better sound?

There is no controlled, independent comparison established here. Sony says PlayStation Pulse uses custom planar magnetic drivers and describes fuller bass, clarity and spatial accuracy; PULSE 3D is described as fine-tuned for PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech. Those are different product descriptions, not a measured winner.

Does PULSE 3D include EQ customization?

Yes. Sony lists three default PS5 EQ presets and three user slots, along with master volume, game/chat mix, mic mute and mic monitoring. The new headset’s announcement lists built-in volume control but does not give an equivalent EQ-control list.

Is the new PlayStation Pulse lighter than PULSE 3D?

That cannot be determined from the announced specifications. The official manual search result gives PULSE 3D’s weight as approximately 292 g, while Sony did not state a weight for PlayStation Pulse.

Does PULSE 3D have a wired mode?

Its official product page lists a 3.5 mm cable for PS VR and mobile devices. That documents those use cases, but it is not a promise of compatibility with every device that has a headphone socket.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When can I preorder PlayStation Pulse?

Sony’s September 15, 2026 announcement did not provide a preorder date. It said the headset would launch in select markets starting in the 2026 holiday season and that more details, including preorder timing, would come later.

The Bottom Line

Choose PULSE 3D if you need a currently documented headset with PS5 and PS4 support, an included 2.4 GHz adapter, 3.5 mm cable, EQ slots and up to 12 hours of stated wireless play. Wait for PlayStation Pulse if planar magnetic drivers, PlayStation Link, simultaneous supported Bluetooth or the integrated AI-noise-rejection microphone are your priorities. Sony had not supplied the new model’s exact date, price, battery life or weight as of October 25, 2026, and no independent test establishes a sound, chat or comfort winner.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
