On a compatible GeForce RTX PC, enable DLSS upscaling in Phantom Blade Zero’s graphics or display settings, then treat Frame Generation as a separate option. RTX 40-series cards are the relevant generation for standard DLSS Frame Generation; RTX 50-series cards are the relevant generation for Multi Frame Generation. Start with a stable base frame rate, change one setting at a time, and judge clarity, motion and control response—not only the number shown by an FPS counter.

NVIDIA’s official PC coverage discusses DLSS 4.5 and ray tracing for the game, but settings can differ between builds. The exact menu wording and location should therefore be verified in your installed version rather than assumed from a universal click path.

What do you need before enabling DLSS?

You need the PC version of Phantom Blade Zero, a compatible GeForce RTX GPU and a game build that exposes the relevant options. The Steam PC listing specifies SSD storage; that is a storage requirement, not a feature that unlocks DLSS or Frame Generation.

  • Confirm the platform: The instructions below concern the Windows PC version. Console menus do not necessarily expose NVIDIA’s PC graphics controls.
  • Identify the GPU generation: In Windows, open Task Manager, select Performance, then GPU to read the model name. A laptop may contain both integrated graphics and a discrete GeForce RTX GPU, so make sure you identify the GPU used by the game.
  • Keep expectations conditional: NVIDIA’s announcement of DLSS features does not prove that every distributed build has identical toggles, presets or labels.
  • Use an SSD where the PC listing requires it: An SSD can satisfy the game’s storage requirement, but changing storage hardware will not create a missing graphics option.

If a setting is absent, first compare your actual GPU generation and platform with the feature you are seeking. Do not assume a missing control is a broken installation until that compatibility check is complete.

How do I enable DLSS in Phantom Blade Zero?

DLSS Super Resolution is the upscaling part of the feature set. It changes how the game renders its internal image and is separate from both standard Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation.

  1. Launch the PC game and open its graphics, video or display settings. The exact heading can vary by build.
  2. Find the DLSS upscaling control. It may be grouped with resolution, upscaling or anti-aliasing options. Select one of the modes the game actually offers.
  3. Apply the change and allow any required restart or shader-processing step to finish. If the game presents a confirmation dialog, accept it before evaluating the result.
  4. Check the picture in motion. Look at fine geometry, foliage, hair, particles and distant detail while moving the camera. A mode that looks sharp in a still image can show different behavior during motion.
  5. Record the base result. Note the mode, the displayed frame rate and how controls feel before you add Frame Generation. This base result is the reference for every later change.

Some builds may offer familiar labels such as Quality, Balanced or Performance, but those names and their availability are not verified as universal for this game. Select only what your installed menu exposes; do not treat a guide written for another build as a guaranteed path.

Where is the Frame Generation setting?

Look for a distinct Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation control in the same general graphics or display area. Turning on DLSS upscaling alone does not prove that generated frames are active.

  1. Leave your chosen DLSS upscaling mode enabled and stable.
  2. Search the surrounding graphics settings for a separate Frame Generation entry. Some versions may place it under an advanced section.
  3. If the entry is offered, enable it and apply the settings.
  4. Move the camera, pan across detailed scenes and perform rapid control inputs. Compare smoothness and response with the setting off, not just the displayed FPS.
  5. Keep the option only if the result feels better to control and the image remains acceptable.

Generated frames can make motion appear smoother without reducing the time needed for the game to produce its next simulated frame. For that reason, a higher displayed count is not automatically a lower-latency experience.

What is the difference between DLSS upscaling, Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation?

These are separate capabilities with different jobs and different hardware boundaries.

Option What it changes Relevant hardware What to evaluate
DLSS Super Resolution Renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output when the game offers the feature. A compatible GeForce RTX PC; the exact game support and modes depend on the installed build. Base frame-rate stability, fine detail, motion reconstruction and artifacts.
Standard Frame Generation Adds generated frames between traditionally rendered frames when the game exposes the control. NVIDIA assigns standard DLSS Frame Generation to RTX 40-series hardware. Displayed smoothness, image stability and perceived control response.
Multi Frame Generation Uses the Multi Frame Generation path offered by the game and supported hardware. NVIDIA assigns Multi Frame Generation to RTX 50-series hardware. Whether the extra displayed smoothness is worth any perceived responsiveness or artifact trade-off.
Native rendering Provides a non-upscaled reference when the game allows it. Any hardware capable of running the game at the selected resolution. Image clarity and the base performance available before upscaling or generated frames.

The hardware distinction matters when troubleshooting. An RTX 40-series card can be the right generation for standard Frame Generation while still lacking a Multi Frame Generation choice. An RTX 50-series card is the relevant generation for MFG, but the game must still expose the option.

How should you optimize DLSS and Frame Generation for smooth gameplay without added lag?

Optimize in two stages: establish a playable base render first, then assess generated frames separately. This avoids mistaking a large displayed-FPS increase for a better control experience.

1. Establish a base you can control

Begin with Frame Generation disabled, or with the closest non-generated configuration your menu provides. Choose a resolution and DLSS mode that produce consistent movement in demanding scenes. The goal is a stable base, not a particular number that has not been independently established for every PC configuration.

2. Compare upscaling modes before adding generation

Change only the DLSS mode. Check camera pans, combat motion, thin geometry and dark areas for shimmer, ghosting or loss of detail. If a more aggressive mode raises the displayed base performance but makes motion distracting, use the clearer mode instead.

3. Enable the appropriate generation option

After you have a satisfactory base, turn on standard Frame Generation on an RTX 40-series card or Multi Frame Generation on an RTX 50-series card when the corresponding control is present. Apply the setting and revisit the same scenes and movements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Judge response separately from smoothness

Generated frames describe what is displayed between traditionally rendered frames. They do not automatically mean that input is being sampled or simulated more quickly. Test short, deliberate movements, camera turns and combat inputs; if the game feels less direct despite a smoother image, disable generation or return to the previous configuration.

5. Consider Reflex only if the game exposes it

NVIDIA discusses Reflex in connection with this title. If your installed build provides a Reflex setting, evaluate it as a separate latency-related control rather than assuming that Frame Generation enables it automatically. Do not promise a particular latency reduction: no generally applicable Phantom Blade Zero figure has been established.

6. Keep a change log

Write down the GPU model, resolution, DLSS mode, generation setting and the scene used for comparison. Changing one variable at a time makes it possible to return to the last configuration that felt stable.

Which settings make the most sense for each RTX generation?

Your GPU generation determines which generation feature is technically relevant; your preferred image quality and response determine whether you should keep it enabled.

GPU situation Practical starting point When to stop or step back
Compatible GeForce RTX card with no generation option Select an available DLSS upscaling mode and tune for a stable base. If no DLSS control appears, verify that you are running the PC version and that the build supports the feature.
RTX 40-series card Use DLSS upscaling first, then test the separate standard Frame Generation control if offered. Do not expect an MFG toggle solely because the card is an RTX 40-series model.
RTX 50-series card Use DLSS upscaling first, then evaluate Multi Frame Generation when the game exposes it. If MFG is absent, check the installed build and game support; hardware generation alone does not guarantee a menu entry.

Why is Multi Frame Generation missing?

The most common explanation is hardware generation. NVIDIA’s feature matrix places Multi Frame Generation with RTX 50-series hardware, while standard Frame Generation is associated with RTX 40-series hardware.

  • Check the exact model, not only the brand family: Read the model shown in Windows Task Manager or the system’s hardware information.
  • Check that the game is running on the discrete RTX GPU: A laptop configured to use integrated graphics can present a different feature set or fail to expose the expected option.
  • Confirm the platform: The PC settings discussed here do not transfer to console menus.
  • Check the build’s wording: A title may label the control Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation or place it in an advanced graphics section.
  • Do not infer a defect from an RTX 40-series system lacking MFG: That absence is consistent with NVIDIA’s generation distinction.

If you have an RTX 50-series card and the option is still absent, record the game version and GPU model, then consult the current game or driver documentation. Do not install a generic “FPS booster” or storage utility expecting it to create a feature the game does not expose.

What should you do if DLSS is missing altogether?

First separate an unavailable feature from a hidden or differently named control. Exact labels are not verified across all current builds, so a menu search based on one screenshot can be misleading.

  1. Confirm that you launched the PC edition and opened graphics or display settings rather than a console-style preset menu.
  2. Verify the GPU model and whether the game is assigned to the discrete GeForce RTX adapter.
  3. Look for an upscaling, reconstruction or anti-aliasing section as well as a setting explicitly named DLSS.
  4. Apply any changes and restart the game if the build requests it.
  5. If the option remains absent, compare your build with the current official game and NVIDIA documentation before changing unrelated software.

Do not claim that an SSD, a utility program or a particular generic driver tweak unlocks DLSS. The SSD requirement in the Steam listing concerns storage capacity and performance characteristics, not graphics-feature licensing.

How do you evaluate image artifacts and control response?

Use repeatable scenes and the same camera movements for each comparison. A single still screenshot cannot reveal all of the trade-offs introduced by upscaling or generated frames.

  • Fine detail: Inspect distant geometry, foliage, hair, wires and particles while moving the camera.
  • Temporal stability: Watch for shimmer, trails, ghosting or unstable edges during pans and combat.
  • Clarity: Check text and interface elements as well as the world image.
  • Motion: Look for whether traversal and camera movement appear smoother with generation enabled.
  • Response: Make quick directional inputs and compare how directly the character and camera follow them.
  • Consistency: Prefer the configuration that remains acceptable across demanding scenes instead of one that looks good only in a quiet area.

There is no universal best preset established for every Phantom Blade Zero PC. Resolution, monitor refresh rate, GPU model, game build and personal tolerance for artifacts all affect the choice.

What does the SSD requirement have to do with DLSS?

The Steam PC listing specifies SSD storage for the game. That requirement belongs in installation planning: it tells you where the game should be installed, not which rendering features your GPU can use.

An SSD cannot turn on DLSS, standard Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation. If one of those controls is missing, investigate platform, GPU generation and build support rather than replacing storage or installing a generic optimization tool.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How should you recover from a setting that feels worse?

Return to the last known-good configuration instead of changing several options at once.

  1. Disable Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation while leaving the selected DLSS mode unchanged.
  2. If the problem persists, switch back to the previous DLSS mode and compare the same scene.
  3. Record whether the problem is visual instability, stutter, delayed-feeling controls or simply an unsatisfactory base frame rate.
  4. Reapply one change at a time, stopping when the image and controls are acceptable together.
  5. After a significant game or graphics-driver update, recheck the menu because labels and availability can change between builds.

This process distinguishes a problem caused by upscaling from one caused by generated frames and avoids treating a displayed-FPS increase as the only success criterion.

How we selected the recommendations

The guidance follows the distinctions documented by NVIDIA and the game’s PC requirements: DLSS Super Resolution, standard Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation are separate features; standard Frame Generation maps to RTX 40-series hardware; Multi Frame Generation maps to RTX 50-series hardware; and the Steam listing specifies SSD storage. Because no generally applicable Phantom Blade Zero benchmark or latency figure has been established, the recommendations prioritize stable base performance, image quality and perceived response rather than promising a numeric gain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the console version of Phantom Blade Zero include these DLSS controls?

The settings described here are for the Windows PC edition and a compatible GeForce RTX GPU. Console graphics menus use different hardware and software paths, so do not assume that a console copy will expose DLSS, Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation toggles.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What information should I write down before changing graphics options?

Record the exact GPU model, game version, resolution, current DLSS mode and whether generation is enabled. Also note how camera movement and controls feel in a repeatable scene; those observations are more useful than an FPS number alone.

Can a game or driver update move the DLSS controls?

Yes, labels and menu groupings can change between distributed builds. After a significant update, revisit the graphics and advanced sections rather than relying on an older screenshot or click path.

When should I retune these settings?

Retune after a significant game patch, graphics-driver update or hardware change. Recheck the base configuration first, then evaluate generation again so you can tell whether the update altered image quality, smoothness or response.
