The PBX Astral Prism is worth considering if you need an inexpensive wired gaming headset mainly for voice chat and casual play. Its boom microphone is its clearest strength; comfort, isolation and balanced sound are not. RTINGS described it as roughly $10 in its August 18, 2026 review, but that is a review-era price, not a guarantee of what it costs today.
What is the PBX Astral Prism?
The PBX Astral Prism is an over-ear, closed-back gaming headset with a wired analog connection and a boom microphone. The reviewed variant is white, with LED lighting in the ear-cup yokes and a lighted stand. RTINGS published its review on August 18, 2026; its changelog says the lab received the headset in July and began testing on July 30, 2026, using RTINGS Methodology v2.3.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIts appeal is straightforward: low purchase cost, a usable microphone and a conventional wired connection for audio and voice. It is not a wireless headset, and its lighting does not change the main trade-off: the mic is more compelling than the listening experience or fit.
Is the PBX Astral Prism worth buying?
It can be a sensible budget choice when a low price and a boom mic matter more than long-session comfort, noise blocking or faithful sound. It is a poor match if you expect a comfortable all-day headset, want wireless connectivity, or need audio that presents high frequencies clearly.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
It makes sense for
- Casual gaming and voice chat where a wired analog headset is acceptable.
- Buyers prioritizing microphone recording at a very low price.
- Someone who likes the distinctive ear-cup LEDs and included lighted stand, while understanding these are cosmetic extras.
Look elsewhere if
- You need Bluetooth or wireless gaming; the Astral Prism is wired-only.
- You are sensitive to a loose fit, have a larger head or ears, or expect to wear a headset for long stretches.
- You want traffic or nearby conversation meaningfully reduced, or prefer brighter, more even sound.
How good is the microphone?
The boom mic is the strongest reason to choose the Astral Prism. RTINGS reports good recording quality, balanced voice detail and effective separation from noisy backgrounds. That makes it a more convincing option for voice chat than its sound performance alone would suggest.
Keep the distinction clear: a good microphone does not make the headset a strong all-around audio product. The mic is useful for communicating, while the headphones themselves have a notably warm presentation and recessed treble. If voice capture is your priority, the wired mic is a real advantage; if music listening or detailed game audio is equally important, the compromises matter more.

The Astral Prism is passable for wired gaming, particularly casual play and voice chat. Its warm sound has some emphasis in the high bass, but the treble is very recessed. Cymbals and other high-pitched sounds can come across muted, and inconsistent left/right driver matching can make sounds seem shifted across the stereo field.

What the sound profile means in practice
- Warmth: The high bass has some emphasis, which contributes to a fuller, less neutral balance.
- Muted detail: Recessed treble can make high-pitched effects and cymbals sound less present.
- Stereo consistency: Poor driver matching can shift apparent sound position, so left/right presentation may not feel consistent.
- Fit sensitivity: Frequency response varies with head shape and positioning. A loose fit can therefore make the already inconsistent presentation less predictable.
Those traits do not rule out casual gaming, but they make the headset less suitable when accurate positional cues or a balanced presentation are central to the experience. The available review findings do not establish that it is a good choice for competitive play.
Is it comfortable, and how well does it block noise?
Comfort is a significant weakness. RTINGS identifies cheap padding, small ear cups, limited headband adjustment and a loose fit; it notes that the headset is uncomfortable for many users, especially those with larger heads or ears. Individual fit varies, but the limited adjustment and cup size are reasons to be cautious if fit is usually difficult for you.
Isolation is weak as well. There is no active noise cancellation, and the seal attenuates only some treble. It does little to reduce mid- and bass-range noise, including traffic or nearby voices. Treat it as a headset for ordinary rooms, not as a way to shut out a noisy environment.

What are the connection and feature trade-offs?
The Astral Prism uses an analog wired connection that supports both headset audio and microphone functionality. RTINGS says it works with PCs and consoles through that connection. The reviewed headset is not wireless, and the review identifies limited controls as a drawback.
The included lighting is a visual feature rather than a performance benefit: the ear-cup yokes and stand light up, but the LEDs do not address the weak isolation, loose fit or recessed treble. Choose it for the wired mic and price first, not because the lighting implies a more capable headset.
How does it compare with alternatives?
The most useful comparison depends on what you want to improve. RTINGS identifies the Turtle Beach Recon 50X/50P as a clearer wired upgrade for most people, the Logitech G432 as a more substantial step up, and the Vibe DG-985BT as an option for buyers who require Bluetooth.

| Headset | Why consider it | Trade-off versus the Astral Prism |
|---|---|---|
| PBX Astral Prism | Very low review-era price, boom mic, wired analog audio and mic, distinctive LEDs and lighted stand. | Loose and uncomfortable fit, flimsy build, weak isolation, recessed treble and no wireless mode. |
| Turtle Beach Recon 50X/50P | RTINGS says it is better for most people because it is more comfortable, better built and more balanced in bass and treble. | It lacks the Astral Prism’s LED lighting. Current price is not stated in the cited review material. |
| Logitech G432 | RTINGS describes a more comfortable fit, more balanced sound, better build and companion-app support. | It costs more; the cited review material does not state a current price. |
| Vibe DG-985BT | A better fit when Bluetooth is required. | The Astral Prism’s wired boom microphone captures voice more naturally, according to RTINGS. Current price is not stated in the cited review material. |
These are different kinds of alternatives rather than a single ranked ladder: the Recon 50X/50P targets comfort and sound balance while staying wired, the G432 adds a more comfortable and better-built experience with app support, and the Vibe DG-985BT addresses the need for Bluetooth. If you are comparing current listings, check the actual price and included configuration in your region; the review-era Astral Prism price is not a current retail quote.
What should you check before buying?
- Connection: Confirm that a wired analog headset is acceptable for your device and setup. This is not a Bluetooth or wireless model.
- Fit: Be especially cautious if you have larger ears or a larger head, since the cups are small and the adjustment is limited.
- Priority: Buy it for low-cost voice chat, not for noise cancellation, comfort or balanced high-frequency audio.
- Price: Compare the live listing with alternatives. The approximately $10 figure is from the 2026 review description and is not a guaranteed present-day price.
- Lighting: Decide whether the ear-cup LEDs and illuminated stand matter to you; they are visual extras, not evidence of better sound or build.
How was the headset evaluated?
RTINGS’ review was published August 18, 2026, and says the test used its Methodology v2.3. The changelog records lab receipt in July 2026 and testing beginning July 30. RTINGS also reported that it had bought and tested 915 headphones in 2026. Those details identify the context of its assessment; they do not turn the review-era price into a current offer or establish how the headset fits every buyer.

Can I use the PBX Astral Prism for streaming?
Its boom mic and analog audio/microphone connection make voice chat possible, but the review characterizes it as a budget, casual-use headset rather than establishing it as a streaming-specific choice. Check that your streaming setup accepts its analog connection.
Does the PBX Astral Prism come with a stand?
The reviewed variant includes a lighted stand, and the headset also has LED lighting in its ear-cup yokes. The review-era description does not establish whether every current regional listing includes the same package.

Is the PBX Astral Prism a good choice for competitive gaming?
The available review findings do not establish it as a competitive-gaming recommendation. Its inconsistent left/right driver matching can affect perceived stereo positioning, so buyers who depend on precise positional cues should consider that limitation.
