Panzer Dragoon Saga, the cult Sega Saturn RPG also known in Japan as AZEL -Panzer Dragoon RPG-, can now be played on a modern Windows PC through an unofficial 2026 recompilation by Miyaxdev. Released on October 24, 2026, the builder runs the complete game with your own compatible Saturn disc image; it is not a Sega remaster, rerelease or commercial PC port.
What Sega RPG finally came to PC after 28 years?
It is Panzer Dragoon Saga. Team Andromeda developed the Saturn RPG for Sega, which released it in Japan on January 29, 1998, North America on April 30, 1998, and Europe on June 5, 1998. Miyaxdev’s Windows builder arrived on October 24, 2026, creating the 28-year gap described in the headline.

- Obtain your own game data. Provide a disc image in
.cue/.bin,.chdor.isoformat. The builder does not include copyrighted game files. - Install or unpack the Windows builder. Use the release package’s included instructions and confirm that your system is running 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
- Open the game image. Point the program at the compatible image when prompted. A multi-file
.cue/.bindump must keep its accompanying files together. - Configure controls and display. Choose keyboard or gamepad input, remap controls if needed, and select 4:3, 16:9 or 21:9 output. Four CRT-style shaders are available for players who want a Saturn-like presentation.
- Manage the four-disc adventure. The builder provides a menu option for switching among all four discs, so you do not need to close the program at each disc change.

Miyaxdev also advertises removal of Saturn slowdown and “wobbly polygons.” Those are developer claims; no independent performance benchmark was published with the release information, so they should not be read as measured results for every computer.

Is this an official Sega port?
No. Sega published the original Saturn release, but the 2026 builder is an independent project and carries no indication of Sega authorization. It is best understood as a fan-made compatibility and recompilation tool that expects the user to provide the original game data.
That distinction matters for both ownership and preservation. Buying or borrowing the builder does not give you the game; the required disc image is a separate responsibility. Regional support is also specific rather than universal: the published identifiers cover the Japanese release and the North American/European release.
Why was Panzer Dragoon Saga considered lost?

The 2026 builder changes access for people who already own the discs, but it does not restore Sega’s source code or turn the game into a supported commercial PC edition. It is a practical preservation route rather than a new release from the original publisher.
How does the released builder differ from the other Windows project?
Miyaxdev’s builder and yaz0r’s open-source Azel repository are separate efforts and should not be treated as interchangeable.

If your goal is to play the full story now on Windows, the released Miyaxdev builder is the relevant project. The yaz0r work is useful to preservation enthusiasts who want to follow reverse engineering, but its published progress does not represent a complete playthrough.

.cue/.binimages, keep the cue sheet and every bin track in the same folder. - Check that the image is complete across all four discs and that filenames referenced by the cue sheet have not changed.
- If the picture looks stretched, switch back to 4:3; 16:9 and 21:9 are presentation options, not proof that the original game was authored for widescreen.
- If a claimed speed improvement is not apparent, remember that the slowdown-removal statement comes from the developer and is not an independently published benchmark.

Can a Saturn save cartridge be imported into the Windows builder?

Will an unlisted regional disc image work?
