No paid DLC, expansion pass, or extra sport has been announced for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort as of October 28, 2026. Nintendo’s launch and support information instead confirms a 12-sport game for Nintendo Switch 2. The “8 Sports” wording is therefore not an official Resort roster. The latest documented software update, version 1.1.0, arrived on October 21, 2026 and added online features and other improvements rather than downloadable sports.
Has Switch Sports Resort DLC been announced?
No. Nintendo’s launch and update materials reviewed through October 28, 2026 contain no announcement of paid downloadable content, an expansion pass, or additional sports. That is a time-bounded status report, not a promise that Nintendo will never release more content.

Jump Rope is described as a warm-up activity, not one of the 12 sports. That distinction likely explains some conflicting count-based headlines.
Why do some headlines say “8 sports”?
“8 Sports” is not the number Nintendo gives for Resort’s confirmed lineup. Nintendo’s own announcements state 12 sports, so an eight-sport count should be treated as an incorrect, outdated or partial description unless its publisher defines a narrower mode or subset.
Resort also differs from the previous Nintendo Switch Sports game. Badminton, Chambara and Football are absent at launch. A reviewer has suggested those sports could return in a future update or DLC, but that is speculation rather than a Nintendo announcement.
What does Resort add besides sports?
Resort is built around Wuhu Island as well as standalone matches. Nintendo describes sightseeing and missions that include chasing dolphins, finding hidden hibiscus and collecting Spocco Photos.
Island Crown
Island Crown is an offline ranking mode. Players climb toward Island Champion and Legend status, giving solo play a progression target without an online match.
Spocco Points and customisation
Playing sports earns Spocco Points, which can be spent on customisation items. The island activities and collection tasks provide additional reasons to return between competitions.

- Play Golf, Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Chambara (swordplay)
- Motion controls will get you moving and help turn your real-world actions into in-game movements
- Use the Leg Strap accessory to kick the ball in Soccer
- Play with friends and family locally or online—in some sports, you and a friend can even team up on the same system to take on other teams online
What did update 1.1.0 add?
Nintendo Support identifies version 1.1.0 as released on October 21, 2026. Its notable additions are:
- Online Match: competitive online play covering nine sports.
- Casual Online Play: a less formal online option, also listing nine competitive sports.
- Friend Lobby: private play for up to eight players, with 12 competitive and leisure sports available.
- Mii appearance controls: additional control over how Mii characters look.
- Fixes: general software improvements listed in Nintendo’s support notes.
The nine-sport figure applies to Online Match and Casual Online Play, while Friend Lobby’s 12-sport figure covers its competitive and leisure selection. These mode counts should not be confused with the 12-sport Resort roster.
Is Switch Sports Resort on the original Nintendo Switch?
No. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launched on October 22, 2026 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. The original Nintendo Switch is not listed as a supported platform.
Do you need Switch 2 and Joy-Con 2?
Yes. Resort requires a Nintendo Switch 2 system and uses Joy-Con 2 controllers for its control schemes. Nintendo describes them functioning as rackets, bows and handlebars, while Skateboarding uses mouse controls. Nintendo also tells players to wear Joy-Con wrist straps during play.
Could Nintendo add more sports later?
It is possible, but there is no confirmed plan to cite. The absence of Badminton, Chambara and Football may fuel speculation, yet neither that omission nor a reviewer’s suggestion establishes forthcoming DLC. Treat any claim of a release date, expansion pass or returning sport as unconfirmed until Nintendo publishes it.

The meaningful differences are platform, roster and progression rather than a simple sport-count comparison:
Also popular on Amazon
- 6 sports: Baseball, run's jump, goalkeeper, tennis, bowling & rafting.
- 20 characters to customize (change your name, outfit, accessories & hair)
- Varied game modes - Solo or multiplayer for up to 8 players.
- More than 15 environments and tons of unlockable items.
| Comparison point | Resort | Earlier Nintendo Switch Sports |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive | Original Nintendo Switch title |
| Confirmed launch sports | 12, according to Nintendo | Includes Badminton, Chambara and Football, which are absent from Resort at launch |
| Offline depth | Wuhu Island missions and Island Crown rankings | Not established in the Resort announcements |
| Controllers | Joy-Con 2, including mouse control for Skateboarding | Original Switch Joy-Con hardware |
| Online update status | Version 1.1.0 adds Online Match, Casual Online Play and Friend Lobby | Not established by Resort’s support notes |
What should buyers expect right now?
Buyers should treat the launch package as a 12-sport Switch 2 game with island activities and newly added online modes—not as an eight-sport edition waiting for a confirmed expansion. The physical and download editions are both identified in Nintendo’s Japanese announcement, while Nintendo’s English launch information confirms the Switch 2 release and roster. Check your region’s store listing for edition availability and current pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Jump Rope one of the Resort sports?
Nintendo presents Jump Rope as a warm-up activity. It is separate from the named 12-sport roster, so counting it as a thirteenth sport would misstate Nintendo’s classification.
