Nintendo Music works on compatible iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, and Nintendo also provides a computer-browser experience. You need a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, but you do not need a Nintendo Switch console. What iPhone and iPad versions are required?
Nintendo Music supports iOS 16 or later and iPadOS 16 or later. If the app is unavailable or will not install, check the device’s operating-system version in its settings and compare it with the required minimum. An older iPhone or iPad that cannot run the required software may not be able to use the app, even if it can still connect to the internet.
What Android version does Nintendo Music need?
The requirement is Android 9 or later, and the device must have more than 2 GB of RAM. Nintendo’s support information excludes devices with 2 GB of RAM or less and says it does not support installations from outside the Google Play Store. Meeting those listed requirements still does not guarantee that every Android model will work correctly.

For an Android installation problem, check both the operating-system version and available device information rather than relying only on the fact that the phone can run other music apps. Install or update the app through Google Play. If the device is below the minimum version, at or below the excluded RAM threshold, or relies on an installation obtained elsewhere, it is outside Nintendo’s stated support conditions.
Is Nintendo Music available on a computer?
Yes. Nintendo provides a computer-browser experience for listening, browsing music, and organizing playlists. This is useful if you want to use a computer instead of a phone or tablet; it does not mean a Nintendo Switch console is required. Nintendo describes browser listening as an access option, while its offline-download instructions apply to the mobile app.

Can I listen to Nintendo Music offline?
Yes, in the mobile app: download tracks while connected to the internet, and they can be played offline. Adding a track to a playlist is not the same as downloading it, so confirm that the download itself has completed before relying on it away from coverage. Nintendo’s service page describes the feature as streaming or downloading tracks for offline listening.
How to prepare tracks for offline listening
- Connect your phone or tablet to the internet and open the Nintendo Music app.
- Find the tracks you want available offline and use the app’s download control. A playlist save or bookmark alone does not establish that the audio is downloaded.
- Allow the download to finish while the device remains online. Avoid leaving the download incomplete if you are about to lose connectivity.
- Before a trip or another extended period without coverage, open the app while connected and confirm that the tracks you need have been downloaded.
The available information establishes mobile downloads but does not specify a download-size limit, a maximum number of tracks, or a particular amount of device storage required. Make sure the device has enough free space for the downloads you choose; the exact space needed depends on what you download, and Nintendo’s information here does not give a figure.
Why can downloaded music stop working offline?
Nintendo Support says downloaded tracks can expire if the user remains offline for an extended period. Its support article associates this issue with codes 9009-2201 on Android and 9010-2101 on iOS. The remedy is to reconnect the device to the internet, launch Nintendo Music, and leave the app running so the downloads can refresh.

Plan for that refresh before a long flight, remote trip, or other stretch without service. If an offline track is unavailable, reconnect first and give the app time to refresh rather than assuming that the original download was permanently preserved. Nintendo does not specify a precise number of offline days before expiration in the information cited here, so there is no supported fixed expiration countdown to rely on.
Do I need a Nintendo Switch to use Nintendo Music?
No. Nintendo’s FAQ says a Switch system is not required. You can use the mobile app on a compatible device or access the computer-browser experience, provided you meet the account and membership requirements. A Switch console and a Nintendo Switch Online membership are separate things: the console is not necessary, but the membership is.
What account or membership is required?
Nintendo requires both a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Its service notice says: “Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and Nintendo Account required.” The account identifies you to Nintendo’s services; the paid membership is the subscription condition for using Nintendo Music. Having a compatible phone or computer by itself is not enough to meet those requirements.

Can I use a Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership?
Yes. Nintendo says a Switch Online Family Membership covers everyone on that membership. The key is that a person must be covered by the applicable membership; simply sharing a device or living in the same home is not, by itself, what Nintendo’s statement defines as eligibility. The available data’s source does not explain family-group setup or account-switching steps, so use Nintendo’s membership settings and account guidance for those details.

Nintendo advertises a seven-day Nintendo Switch Online free trial for trying Nintendo Music where that trial is available. The trial and membership availability can differ by country, and Nintendo states that Nintendo Music itself is not available in all countries. Check the Nintendo membership offer displayed for your region for the current eligibility and terms rather than assuming a trial is available everywhere.

Which access route should I use?
Choose the mobile app if you want offline downloads or plan to use a phone-based CarPlay or Android Auto setup. Choose the browser when listening and managing playlists on a computer is more convenient and you expect to be online.
