Netcup is the stronger value pick for technically capable buyers who want inexpensive, self-managed servers; IONOS is the better fit for businesses that put a larger published operating footprint and round-the-clock support first. For shared hosting, neither wins on price alone: the listed Netcup plan costs less per month, while the listed IONOS plan provides more web space and databases but becomes more expensive after its introductory period. Your choice should follow the workload, support needs and full contract cost—not just the first advertised rate.

How do Netcup and IONOS differ?

Both providers sell web hosting and servers, but their strongest points differ. Netcup’s published menu emphasizes self-managed server options, billing flexibility and low starting prices. IONOS presents a broader operating footprint and advertises customer service around the clock, making it a plausible fit for buyers who value support and a business-oriented service experience.

That distinction matters because a shared hosting plan and a virtual or root server are not interchangeable. Shared hosting is generally the simpler choice when you need to run a website without managing a server operating system. A VPS or root server gives you more direct control, but also puts more responsibility for setup, security and ongoing administration on you. The evidence available here does not establish that every IONOS or Netcup plan includes the same level of management, so check the exact product before buying.

Netcup’s server catalog is unusually varied at the low end. Its listed range includes conventional vServers, root servers, ARM systems and vGPU products, so the choice is not simply between a small and a large virtual machine. Architecture can affect software compatibility, image availability and the skills needed to administer the machine. IONOS may still be preferable when a buyer wants a more conventional business-provider relationship and a clearly advertised support channel rather than the widest selection of self-managed configurations.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Consider Netcup if you can administer a server and want a broad range of lower-cost server types, including VPS, root, ARM and vGPU options.
  • Consider IONOS if 24/7/365 support and its published infrastructure scale matter more to you than finding the lowest-cost self-managed server.
  • For shared hosting, compare the contract and included resources as well as the price: the cited plans differ in storage, database count and minimum term.

Which shared hosting plan offers better value?

In the cited 2026 comparison, Netcup Webhosting 1000 has the lower listed monthly price, while IONOS Webhosting Standard includes more web space and databases. IONOS’s price rises after six months; Netcup’s listing specifies a 12-month minimum term. These are dated price snapshots, not guarantees of what a new customer will be offered today.

Plan Listed price and term Storage or web space Databases Other listed details
Netcup Webhosting 1000 €2.17/month; 12-month minimum 25 GB SSD 1 SSL and domain included in the cited comparison
IONOS Webhosting Standard €3/month for six months, then €6/month 50 GB web space 10 Introductory price applies for the first six months in the cited comparison

On the listed rates, Netcup costs less during the first six months and remains listed at a lower monthly rate during the following six months. But the comparison is not a like-for-like resource match: IONOS lists twice the storage or web space and ten times the database count. If your site needs multiple databases or more space, those included allowances may matter more than the difference in monthly charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Storage is only one capacity constraint. A site can hit a database limit long before it uses all of its disk allowance, especially when a separate database is used for each application, staging environment or client project. Conversely, a small brochure site may never approach 25 GB, making the extra IONOS capacity irrelevant. Check whether email, logs, media uploads and backups count toward the advertised web-space quota, because the headline allowance does not answer those product-specific questions.

How should you compare the total cost?

For a 12-month view using only the listed rates, Netcup’s quoted plan totals €26.04 for 12 months at €2.17 per month. IONOS totals €54 over the same period if the first six months are €3 each and the next six are €6 each. These arithmetic totals exclude any charges not specified in the comparison, and they assume the listed prices and terms apply to your order. Check the checkout summary for the current renewal rate, billing period, taxes and any separately priced options before committing.

Also check whether the quoted domain and SSL terms suit your needs, whether the plan’s database and storage limits leave room for growth, and what happens at renewal. A low introductory rate is only useful if the post-promotion price and included resources still fit your budget. Ask whether the displayed amount is conditional on annual prepayment, whether cancellation is possible before the minimum term ends, and whether a domain is included only for the first year. Those details can change the effective cost even when the monthly figure looks clear.

Which provider is better for a VPS or root server?

Netcup has the stronger published case for buyers seeking a low-cost, self-managed server. Its server page lists VPS, root, ARM and vGPU products starting at €2.20 per month, with API access, a remote console, pre-installed images, DDoS protection and IPv4/IPv6. It also describes hourly billing on some products. These features are not necessarily available on every product, so verify the specific server’s listing and billing terms.

Hourly billing can be useful for short-lived test machines, migration work or burst capacity, but it does not automatically mean there is no minimum charge or commitment. Confirm how a stopped, deleted or suspended instance is billed and whether storage, snapshots, IPv4 addresses or traffic have separate charges. API and console access can simplify repeatable deployments, yet they also make it easier to create resources that continue accruing charges if you do not have an inventory and shutdown process.

IONOS may make more sense if your decision prioritizes its larger published operating footprint and advertised continuous support over the breadth of Netcup’s low-cost server menu. The available figures do not provide an equivalent, directly matched server-price comparison for the two companies. Therefore, the starting price of Netcup’s overall server range should not be treated as a direct comparison with a particular IONOS VPS tier.

What do the VPSBenchmarks results show?

VPSBenchmarks tested 10 VPS plans from the two providers. Its grades combine web, CPU, disk, network and stability tests; price is excluded unless a price-weighted setting is enabled. In the displayed results, Netcup RS 1000 G12 received C grades for web, CPU and disk. IONOS VPS S+ received E grades for web and CPU, D for stability, E for disk and C for network.

Those are results for the named plans in that benchmark, not a verdict on every tier or on all workloads. They can help narrow a comparison if those specific plans are under consideration, but they do not establish that every Netcup server will outperform every IONOS server. The grades also do not include price by default, so they do not answer which plan provides better value on their own.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the benchmark as one input alongside your own workload profile. A CPU-heavy build job, a database with random disk reads and a cache-heavy web application can rank providers differently. Check whether the tested plan has the same vCPU, memory, storage type and location as the configuration you intend to order. If you enable a price-weighted view, remember that the result then reflects the benchmark’s price assumptions, which may not match your renewal rate or any taxes and add-ons in your order.

What should you verify before ordering a server?

  • Compare guaranteed CPU, RAM and storage for the exact plan rather than relying on the provider’s lowest “from” price.
  • Check whether the server is VPS, root, ARM or vGPU; those product types are not equivalent in architecture or administration needs.
  • Confirm whether hourly billing applies to the product you want and what billing interval or minimum commitment still applies.
  • Check whether the chosen location, network, image and console options are available for that specific plan.
  • Decide who will perform operating-system updates, application maintenance, backups and incident response; the cited comparison does not establish that these tasks are included as managed service.
  • Confirm IPv4 and IPv6 allocation, traffic policies, snapshot pricing and restore procedures before moving a production service.

Where are Netcup and IONOS servers located?

The cited provider and benchmark pages list different sets of locations. Netcup lists Vienna, Germany, the Netherlands, Manassas and Singapore. The benchmark lists IONOS locations in France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. These lists establish published locations in the cited material; they do not prove that every product is sold in every location.

IONOS also publishes a much larger operating footprint: 31 operated data centers, more than 100,000 servers, 22 million domains under management, over 6.2 million customer contracts and 4,300 employees. Those figures indicate organizational scale, not a promise that a particular VPS has better latency, storage performance or support response. Netcup’s location list may be sufficient for a latency-sensitive European or Singapore workload, while IONOS’s listed countries may offer a better match for a particular audience.

For latency-sensitive services, choose a location based on where your users or systems are, then confirm that the specific plan can be provisioned there. For data residency, do not rely on a country list alone: check the product’s applicable terms and confirm where the service stores and processes the data relevant to your requirements. A control panel’s selected region may not answer where backups, support access or ancillary services are handled.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does IONOS have better support?

IONOS explicitly describes its customer service as available “24/7/365.” Netcup’s cited material does not provide an equivalent support-hours statement, response-time commitment or direct comparison of support channels. The evidence therefore supports saying that IONOS publishes round-the-clock availability, not that every support issue will receive an immediate response or that Netcup support is necessarily worse.

If support is a deciding factor, check the channel available for your product, the published response expectations, and whether technical help includes server administration or only help with the provider’s platform. Those distinctions matter: access to a support team is not the same as having someone manage your applications or diagnose every problem on a self-administered server. A business that cannot staff Linux updates, firewall rules and application monitoring may need a managed service, regardless of which company advertises the longer support window.

What do uptime, DDoS protection and snapshots mean for reliability?

Netcup documents minimum annual availability of 99.6% for VPS and 99.9% for root servers. It also documents 2 Tbps DDoS protection and optional snapshots. These are provider-published service details, not an independent measurement of uptime for a particular customer’s workload. Check the applicable product terms to understand how availability is defined and what remedies, if any, apply.

The two availability figures are not interchangeable: the root-server commitment is higher than the VPS commitment. Neither figure guarantees that your application will be usable every minute, since software failures, maintenance inside the guest system, DNS problems and configuration errors can occur without a provider outage. Monitor the service yourself and document the recovery procedure before an incident.

DDoS protection and snapshots address different risks. DDoS protection is intended to help mitigate distributed denial-of-service traffic; a snapshot is a point-in-time copy that can assist with recovery. A snapshot should not automatically be treated as a complete backup strategy: confirm retention, restore process and coverage, and keep an independent copy if your recovery requirements call for one. Test a restore, because a backup that cannot be retrieved within your recovery window does not meet the same objective as a tested recovery copy.

What should you know about Netcup’s October 2026 service notice?

Netcup’s Help Center records a precautionary service shutdown beginning on 21 October 2026 at 23:45. The notice says affected systems had been patched and were fully operational again, and that the page reported no evidence of exploitation. That is a specific operational notice, not evidence by itself of a continuing outage or compromise.

For a business-critical workload, use the provider’s current status and incident communications when evaluating operational risk. Also decide whether your own recovery plan can tolerate a service interruption, regardless of provider: availability commitments, incident notices and recovery copies serve different purposes. Keep an export of essential data and infrastructure configuration outside the provider so that a precautionary shutdown or account-access problem does not become a permanent loss.

How should you make the final choice?

Start with the kind of hosting you need, then filter by the constraints that could disqualify a plan. A simple website with modest requirements may be best served by shared hosting; an application requiring operating-system control may call for a VPS or root server. After that, compare the exact plan’s recurring cost, resources, location, support expectations and administration burden.

Choose Netcup when

  • You are comfortable managing your own server or have someone who can.
  • You want to compare a range of self-managed server types, including VPS, root, ARM and vGPU products.
  • API access, remote console access or hourly billing on an eligible product fits your workflow.
  • Your shared-hosting requirements fit the lower storage and database allowances of the cited Netcup plan.
  • You want documented VPS availability of 99.6%, root-server availability of 99.9%, 2 Tbps DDoS protection and optional snapshots, subject to the applicable terms.

Choose IONOS when

  • You value the provider’s published 24/7/365 customer-service availability.
  • A larger published operating footprint is an important part of your decision.
  • The additional web space and database allowance in the cited shared-hosting plan better match your site.
  • You are willing to evaluate the post-introductory shared-hosting rate rather than decide on the first six months alone.
  • Your users or compliance requirements align with one of the listed IONOS countries and the exact product is available there.

Use a plan-level checklist before paying

  1. Write down the required hosting type, storage, databases, compute resources and server location.
  2. Compare the exact products that meet those needs; do not compare a shared plan’s price with a server plan’s starting rate.
  3. Calculate the cost across the whole initial term and include the stated post-introductory rate where one applies.
  4. Confirm support scope, backup and recovery options, billing terms, and who is responsible for server administration.
  5. Review the final order summary and contract for current prices and product-specific terms.
  6. Plan migration, DNS cutover, mail delivery and rollback before placing a production workload on the new account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move my website from one provider to the other?

The cited plan comparison does not establish whether either provider will migrate a particular site for you. Before switching, identify the site files, database, DNS records, email and SSL dependencies that need to move, and verify any migration assistance directly with the provider.

Does a snapshot replace a website backup?

Not necessarily. A snapshot is a point-in-time recovery option, while a backup plan also needs suitable retention, restore access and coverage for the data and systems you cannot afford to lose. Confirm those details for the product you choose.

Which hosting location should I choose for customers in Europe?

A European server location can be a sensible starting point for serving European users, but the closest listed country is not automatically the best choice for every workload. Verify the product’s actual availability by location and assess latency from your users before provisioning.

Are the VPSBenchmarks grades a guarantee of how my site will perform?

No. They describe test results for specific plans under the benchmark’s test approach, not a guarantee for your application, configuration or traffic. Your software stack and workload can affect results, so treat the grades as comparative evidence rather than a promised outcome.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Netcup cheaper than IONOS after renewal?

For the listed shared plans, Netcup is €2.17 per month with a 12-month minimum, while IONOS is €3 for six months and €6 thereafter. That makes the cited Netcup rate lower, but prices and renewal terms change; verify the current checkout total, taxes and options.

Which is better for a VPS, Netcup or IONOS?

Netcup has the stronger documented low-cost and self-managed VPS case, including VPS, root, ARM and vGPU products from €2.20 per month, API and console features, and hourly billing on some products. IONOS can be the better fit when 24/7/365 support and its larger published infrastructure footprint outweigh the need for the lowest starting price.

Where are Netcup and IONOS servers located?

Netcup lists Vienna, Germany, the Netherlands, Manassas and Singapore. The benchmark lists IONOS locations in France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Confirm that your exact product is available in the location you need and review the applicable data-processing terms.

Does IONOS have better support than Netcup?

IONOS explicitly advertises customer service as available 24/7/365. The cited Netcup material does not provide an equivalent support-hours or response-time statement, so it supports a difference in published availability—not a blanket conclusion that every Netcup support interaction is worse.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does Netcup’s 99.6% VPS availability mean?

It is a documented minimum annual availability figure for VPS products; root servers are documented at 99.9%. It is not an independent guarantee that your application, guest operating system or DNS will always be available. Read the product terms for definitions and remedies.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Choose Netcup for lower-cost, flexible self-managed infrastructure; choose IONOS for published 24/7/365 support and a larger operating footprint. For shared hosting, compare the complete term cost, renewal price, storage, databases and contract before deciding.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
