Choose a neocloud when your main requirement is specialized GPU infrastructure and you can verify that its hardware, capacity, and operating model fit your workload. Choose a hyperscaler when GPU compute needs to work closely with a broader cloud platform—such as its identity, data, security, and regional services. Neither label guarantees better performance or lower total cost: compare the actual configuration and terms for your job.
For AI training and inference, the useful question is not simply which provider charges less per GPU-hour. It is which service can run your workload, in the right region and at the right time, with acceptable data movement, operational effort, support, and compliance obligations.

What is a neocloud, and how does it differ from a hyperscaler?
A neocloud is a cloud provider focused on GPU compute and AI workloads rather than general-purpose enterprise applications. Microsoft for Startups defines it as infrastructure built specifically for GPU compute and AI workloads. The distinction is primarily one of specialization versus breadth—not a guarantee about price, reliability, or speed.
Hyperscalers offer GPU instances alongside broader platforms that can include storage, databases, identity and access management, security tooling, compliance capabilities, orchestration, and many geographic regions. A neocloud may concentrate more of its offering on accelerator access, dense GPU clusters, and the network connecting them. The exact services differ by provider, so check what is actually offered rather than assuming every company in either category has the same architecture.

| Dimension | Neocloud emphasis | Hyperscaler emphasis |
|---|---|---|
| Core proposition | GPU infrastructure and AI workloads | GPU compute within a broader cloud platform |
| Cluster design | May emphasize bare-metal access, dense clusters, and high-bandwidth, low-latency fabrics | GPU options integrated with the provider’s wider compute, networking, and platform services |
| Adjacent services | May require the customer to assemble or connect more of the surrounding stack | May offer integrated identity, data services, security tools, monitoring, and other cloud services |
| Operational responsibility | Depends on the service; bare-metal setups can leave more scheduling, monitoring, patching, and failure recovery to the customer | Depends on the selected service and configuration; platform integration does not remove the need to check responsibilities |
Cisco’s October 16, 2026 solution brief describes bare-metal performance, high-bandwidth, low-latency fabrics, and dense clustering as characteristics associated with neocloud architecture. These are design considerations, not proof that a given provider will outperform another on your model. Cisco also discusses security risks and compliance in this architecture; treat that as a vendor’s framing, not an independent comparative benchmark.
Microsoft for Startups names CoreWeave, Crusoe, Lambda, and Nebius as neocloud examples. That list is a starting point for understanding the category, not an assurance that the providers offer equivalent GPUs, service quality, availability, pricing, security, or contract terms.
Which workloads are more likely to fit each kind of cloud?
Start with the shape of the job. A tightly coupled, multi-node training run may benefit from a GPU cluster with an appropriate interconnect and enough capacity to provision the required nodes together. An inference service may place greater weight on predictable availability, latency, regional reach, deployment integration, and the cost of keeping capacity running.
Consider a neocloud when GPU infrastructure is the main requirement
- Your workload is dominated by accelerator compute, and you can specify the GPU model, memory, node count, and topology it needs.
- You need a multi-GPU or multi-node configuration and can verify the network fabric and cluster density for that configuration.
- Your team can operate the software stack and any infrastructure responsibilities that come with the service, or the provider clearly supplies the managed services you need.
- You can confirm capacity, provisioning timing, region, support, and commercial terms for the actual deployment—not just see a GPU model in a product listing.
Consider a hyperscaler when platform integration is central
- The AI system depends on data, storage, identity, security, monitoring, or orchestration services already running in that cloud.
- Your deployment needs a particular region or broader platform capabilities, and the provider can confirm the required GPU configuration is available there.
- You prefer to evaluate GPU compute as part of a wider cloud environment instead of assembling as many components across providers.
- Your organization’s security, compliance, procurement, or support requirements are tied to specific services or contractual commitments that the provider can document.
These are decision signals, not rules. A hyperscaler can be a fit for intensive distributed training if its offered configuration meets the workload’s requirements; a neocloud can fit inference if it provides the needed service, region, and operational support. Provider category alone does not establish performance or suitability.

What should you compare before choosing a GPU cloud?
Compare the specific workload and deployment you intend to run. A useful evaluation records a requirement, asks each provider the same question, and keeps unverified claims separate from confirmed terms.
| Comparison area | Questions to answer | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Workload and performance | Is the job training or inference? What exact GPU model, memory, topology, node count, and interconnect does it need? Can you run a representative benchmark? | A category label or advertised accelerator does not show how your particular job performs. |
| Capacity and region | Is the full GPU count available in the required region? Is capacity on demand, quota-limited, reserved, or subject to a lead time? | Listed hardware is not a promise that it can be provisioned when and where you need it. |
| Total cost | What do GPU time, storage, data transfer, support, utilization, and engineering operations cost for the workload? | The hourly accelerator rate is only one component of the cost to run a job or service. |
| Platform integration | How will identity, security, data services, orchestration, and monitoring work with the existing environment? | Integrated services can reduce the number of components to connect; a specialized service may require additional setup. |
| Security and compliance | Which controls, evidence, certifications, contractual commitments, and responsibility boundaries apply to this service? | Requirements depend on both provider capabilities and customer configuration; verify the evidence relevant to your use. |
| Commercial terms | Is the price on-demand or committed? What are the support, service-level, egress, and cancellation terms? | Public list prices do not show negotiated rates or the obligations attached to a contract. |
Match the hardware and network to the job
Write down the configuration you need before comparing providers: accelerator model, memory, number of GPUs, number of nodes, and any topology or interconnect requirements. For distributed training, ask specifically how GPUs communicate across nodes and whether the quoted configuration is available as a coherent cluster. For inference, evaluate the serving configuration and deployment conditions that matter to your latency and availability targets. Do not infer that two configurations are equivalent just because they list the same GPU name.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallAsk for a representative test using your own model, input shape, software stack, and workload pattern if the provider and contract allow it. Record the configuration, region, provisioning conditions, and measurement method so that results are interpretable. The available evidence does not establish an independent, matched benchmark across neoclouds and hyperscalers; a provider’s architecture description is not a substitute for testing the workload you intend to run.
Confirm the capacity and service you can actually buy
For every candidate, establish the region, GPU count, provisioning timing, and access path. Ask whether capacity is self-service, subject to quota approval, available only by reservation, or offered through a bespoke agreement. Saturn Cloud’s June 2026 comparison report cautions that some capabilities providers market may be limited to reserved or bespoke contracts. A feature on a provider’s marketing page is not necessarily available to a self-service buyer.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
Confirm support arrangements and the division of operational work as well. If the service exposes bare-metal infrastructure, clarify who handles scheduling, monitoring, patching, software alignment, and recovery from failures. A lower-level service may provide the control your team wants, but it can also require more engineering time than a managed alternative.
Check security evidence and responsibility boundaries
Translate internal requirements into questions a provider can answer: which controls apply to the chosen service, what documentation or evidence is available, which contractual commitments are included, and what the customer must configure or operate. Do not treat “neocloud” or “hyperscaler” as a security certification. The relevant answer is the provider’s documented offering and the configuration you will actually use.
Security and compliance also intersect with architecture. Determine how data reaches the GPU environment, which services handle it, and who is responsible for each part of the deployment. If your organization requires a specific control or contractual term, verify it for the exact product and region rather than relying on a company-wide statement.

| Provider | H100 SXM on-demand list price per GPU-hour |
|---|---|
| Lambda | $3.99 |
| Together | $3.99 |
| RunPod | $3.99 |
| Nebius | $4.50 |
| CoreWeave | $6.16 |
| AWS | $6.88 |
| Oracle | $10.00 |
| Azure | $12.29 |
The median across the eight listed providers is $5.33 per GPU-hour. This is a dated list-price snapshot for one accelerator and a specified cheapest-US-region methodology—not a matched comparison of equivalent deployments or a universal neocloud-versus-hyperscaler result. Google Cloud is excluded because its public price list was not available to the comparison’s compiler without a key. The page also notes that large buyers negotiate unpublished contracts.
To estimate what your workload will cost, use the hourly figure only as one input. Include the amount of time GPUs are actively doing useful work, storage, data movement, support, and the labor needed to prepare, operate, and troubleshoot the environment. A workload that waits for data, runs at low utilization, or needs substantial hands-on operations can have economics very different from the GPU-hour headline.
Build a workload-level estimate
- Fix the deployment being priced. Record the GPU configuration, region, expected runtime, storage needs, and whether the job is on-demand or committed.
- Ask for the full rate card and terms. Check which list prices apply to the configuration you can obtain, and whether support, reservation, or cancellation terms change the price.
- Include data and storage costs. Identify where source data and outputs live, how they reach the GPUs, and whether the workflow incurs transfer or storage charges.
- Account for utilization and operations. Estimate productive GPU time rather than assuming every billed hour advances the job; include engineering effort for setup and ongoing management.
- Compare like with like. Use the same workload, region, capacity assumptions, and time period for each provider, then compare the resulting total rather than ranking headline rates.
DigitalOcean’s July 31, 2026 provider-selection guide also recommends comparing performance options, pricing transparency, scalability, and regional availability. Those criteria are useful independently of the provider’s own GPU-product marketing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What does a practical provider evaluation look like?
A short, structured evaluation can prevent a low hourly rate or an impressive hardware specification from dominating the decision before the operational details are known.
Best Value
- Describe the workload. Specify training or inference, model and software requirements, expected data flow, GPU count, memory, node topology, runtime, and workload schedule.
- Set deployment constraints. Name acceptable regions, provisioning deadlines, minimum capacity, security and compliance requirements, and any integration needs.
- Request comparable configurations. Ask each candidate for the exact service, GPU model, topology, network, access model, region, and terms that meet those constraints. Mark unavailable or unconfirmed items plainly.
- Test the representative job. Where possible, run the same workload with the same success criteria and record the configuration and conditions. Separate observed results from provider claims.
- Calculate total operating cost. Include GPU usage, storage, data movement, utilization, support, and the team’s operational work over the same period.
- Make the decision against requirements. Choose the option that meets the workload, capacity, integration, security, and cost requirements with acceptable trade-offs—not the option whose category or headline price sounds best.
Use a written scorecard so open questions remain visible. A candidate with an attractive configuration but unknown quota, region availability, or contract terms is not yet equivalent to one whose deployment details are confirmed.
How large is the neocloud market, and does growth settle the choice?
Market growth can explain why specialized GPU providers are receiving attention, but it cannot identify the right service for an individual workload. Microsoft for Startups reports a Synergy Research Group estimate of a neocloud market size above $25 billion for 2025, with a projection of nearly $400 billion by 2031 and a near-58% compound annual growth rate. These are an attributed 2025 estimate and 2031 projection, not a directly checked dataset or evidence that a particular provider has the capacity, performance, or terms your deployment needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move an AI workload between a neocloud and a hyperscaler?
Often the model code can be made portable, but the surrounding deployment may not be: data locations, storage formats, identity, orchestration, networking, and service-specific APIs can all create migration work. Before choosing, identify which components are standard in your stack and which are tied to a provider, then estimate the time and cost of moving both data and operations.
Is a neocloud only for training large AI models?
No. The category is focused on GPU compute and AI workloads, which can include inference as well as training. Whether a particular provider suits inference depends on its actual serving options, capacity, region, and integration—not on the category name.
Should a small team choose a neocloud or a hyperscaler?
Team size alone does not settle it. A small team may value a focused GPU service, or may prefer the broader platform and existing operational familiarity of a hyperscaler; compare the engineering work required to deploy and run the exact workload.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does bare-metal access mean I will get better GPU performance?
Not by itself. Bare-metal access describes an infrastructure model, while actual results depend on the full GPU configuration, network, software stack, workload, and operating conditions. Verify performance with a representative test rather than treating the access model as a benchmark.
