Is it suitable for a large yard?
On the published specifications, yes: CHOICE places it in the large-yard category, and a 430 mm path covers more ground per sweep than a narrow residential trimmer. Where the 430 mm path helps

When a different type of trimmer may fit better
A battery model can be easier for short, frequent jobs because it avoids petrol mixing and spark-plug service. A lighter machine may also be preferable if you have limited upper-body strength or need to trim for long uninterrupted periods. What fuel mix does the BC 230B S3 use?
Use fresh petrol mixed with synthetic two-stroke oil at a 50:1 petrol-to-oil ratio. The tank holds 500 ml. The manual specifically calls for the correct synthetic two-stroke mix; straight petrol or an incorrect ratio can damage the engine.
How to measure the mixture
- Use a clean, approved fuel container rather than mixing in the trimmer’s tank.
- Measure petrol and synthetic two-stroke oil at 50 parts petrol to one part oil. For example, 1 litre of petrol takes 20 ml of oil; 500 ml of petrol takes 10 ml of oil.
- Mix thoroughly, label the container and pour only the amount that fits the 500 ml tank. A 500 ml petrol portion plus 10 ml oil makes about 510 ml, so leave headroom rather than forcing the entire batch into the tank.
- Keep the container sealed and use fresh mixed fuel. The manual advises against relying on stale fuel, but it does not state a universal storage life; follow the oil manufacturer’s storage guidance.
Move at least 9 m away from the refuelling location before starting the engine. Wipe up spills, replace the fuel cap securely and never smoke or create an ignition source during mixing or refuelling.
What size line fits the Morrison BC 230B S3?
The specified consumable is 2.0 mm nylon trimmer line. The head uses two separate pieces, each 2.5 m long, in a bump-feed arrangement. When to replace line
Replace line when both tips have shortened enough to reduce the cutting circle, when the nylon has become brittle, or when repeated impacts have damaged the spool. Stop the engine and remove the spark-plug wire before touching the head. The manual’s safety rule applies to adjustments and repairs, including clearing wrapped grass.

- Wear the required protection. Use eye protection, hearing protection, non-slip footwear and heavy-duty gloves. Long trousers and close-fitting clothing are prudent around rotating line, but the manual’s named requirements are the four items above.
- Clear the work area. Keep people and animals at least 15 m away. Stop if anyone enters that exclusion zone, and scan for stones, wire, glass and other projectiles before starting.
- Refuel correctly. Stop the engine, allow hot parts to cool, mix the 50:1 fuel away from ignition sources and move 9 m from the refuelling point before starting.
- Start according to the manual. Use the model-specific starting controls and keep the head clear of the ground and bystanders. Do not improvise a procedure from another brand’s trimmer.
- Trim with control. Work at a steady pace, keep the bump head at a consistent height and avoid striking hard surfaces. Release the throttle and stop the engine before carrying, setting down or clearing the head.
- Shut down for any intervention. Stop the engine and remove the spark-plug wire before adjusting, cleaning, unclogging or repairing the machine.
These precautions are not optional accessories: the 15 m exclusion zone, 9 m relocation after refuelling and spark-plug-wire removal are explicit manual instructions.
