Moon Sweepers supports online co-op for up to 16 people on the Windows Steam version, and the entire game is playable solo. It does not offer split-screen, local co-op, or crossplay. Steam lists full controller support for Xbox and PlayStation pads, including DualShock, DualSense and Steam Input. Steam Deck compatibility is still marked Unknown: patch 1.0.4 fixed startup problems under older Proton versions, but the game remains an unofficial Windows release. Progression starts with a toothbrush, then expands through shared crew upgrades, depots, belts, vehicles and eventually the autonomous J.O.O.N.A.S. cleaner. What is Moon Sweepers, and which version is current?
Moon Sweepers is a first-person lunar cleaning and logistics simulation from DragDrop Games. You collect lunar dust, deliver it to a depot, launch shipments for payment, and reinvest that money in wider tools, carrying capacity, buildings and vehicles. The Steam release launched on 23 October 2026 as app 5335510.

Patch 1.0.5 is the live build as of 28 October 2026. It added building Move Mode, restored full removal refunds, improved capsule routing, warned players before opening a public lobby, and fixed several controller and loading bugs. A save created in 1.0.4 cannot be opened by an older build, so every player joining a world must update to the host’s version.

Does Moon Sweepers have multiplayer, and how many people can play?
Yes. One Steam Windows lobby supports up to 16 online players. Solo play is fully supported, while local split-screen, couch co-op, LAN play and crossplay are unavailable.
Everyone works in the same lunar world. Players can spread over separate hexes or clean one area together, with useful roles emerging naturally: ground cleaners, drivers, builders and scouts. A large crew is generally more productive when it divides across several hexes rather than stacking all 16 people on one patch.

The shared-matrix rule dates from 1.0.3. Older saves retain the highest upgrade level anyone had already purchased, so buying the same matrix upgrade separately on every character is no longer useful.
Can the host remove disruptive players?
Yes. Open the in-game menu with Esc, choose Your Crew, and use the kick, ban or unban controls. Patch 1.0.5 adds a confirmation warning before starting a public game or switching an existing crew to public, explaining what visitors can do to the Moon and where the moderation controls are.
How do I host or join a co-op world?
Use the same Steam build first; version mismatch is the most common reason a friend cannot join. The developer has not published a definitive screenshot of the join menu, so labels can change, but the supported flow is straightforward.

- Update Moon Sweepers for the host and every crewmate. Do not try to open a 1.0.4 save from an older build.
- The host loads an existing save or creates one and chooses the desired visibility, such as Friends only, Invite only or Public, when those options appear.
- Invite friends through Steam or have them select the host’s available lobby. A host who accidentally loads a solo save must return to a multiplayer-capable session.
- Assign practical jobs: a few players sweep, others drive, build depots and belts, or scout unopened regions.
- If somebody disappears from the list, check that they are not banned in Esc → Your Crew. Restarting Steam can also refresh a lobby that is not appearing.
Pre-1.0.4 worlds could show dust returning after another player cleaned it. Updating to 1.0.4 or newer is the fix because the ground-synchronization system was rewritten.

Yes. Steam marks controller support as full, including Xbox controllers, DualShock, DualSense and the Steam Input API. A gamepad works throughout the game rather than only in menus.
Patch 1.0.5 adds a controller shortcut for Move Mode: while in remove mode, press Y. The same patch fixed an input fault in which a character could run forward by itself or keyboard and mouse input could be ignored when an off-centre controller, joystick, racing wheel or pedals were connected.
Controller troubleshooting
- Update to 1.0.5 before changing hardware.
- Disconnect unused wheels, pedals, joysticks and spare pads, then relaunch the game.
- If Steam Input is remapping a pad unexpectedly, test the controller with the game’s standard Steam Input profile.
- Do not infer a missing button from a third-party guide: no complete official button map has been published.
Does Moon Sweepers work on Steam Deck?
Steam Deck status is Unknown, not Verified or Playable. Moon Sweepers has no native Linux build; it is a Windows Steam release running through Proton when used on a Deck. Patch 1.0.4 fixed startup failures seen with older Proton versions, and community reports describe successful launches, but those reports are anecdotal and do not constitute official compatibility.
Check current ProtonDB reports for app 5335510 before buying specifically for a Deck. Steam’s normal two-hour refund window is the safest way to decide whether your particular Deck setup is acceptable. On a Windows PC with an AMD GPU, 1.0.4 made DirectX 11 the default to reduce crashes; -force-d3d12 is the launch option for forcing DirectX 12. Patch 1.0.5 also fixed a “Not Responding” freeze that could occur roughly half a minute after loading some worlds under either DirectX mode.

What should I upgrade first?
Upgrade order depends on whether you are still sweeping by hand or already operating machinery. The reliable early goal is more cleaning width and enough carrying capacity to avoid constant trips to a depot; logistics and automation matter more once dust is arriving faster than a person can pack it.

When your container is full, press Q to pack it. Dust sitting in the container is worth nothing until it reaches the depot intake. Completing a hex also grants a completion bonus; one early guide observed $10, but no official formula has been published.

Market Contracts does nothing for a stalled belt because multiplying a zero shipment still produces zero. Wide Head and Dust Compactor become less important once the crew moves to vehicles.

When should I buy vehicles and J.O.O.N.A.S.?
Build a Garage as the operation grows, then buy personal cleaning vehicles. Patch 1.0.3 lets any garage recall, store and upgrade those vehicles, and demolishing a garage no longer deletes vehicles stored inside it.

J.O.O.N.A.S. is the late-game six-armed autonomous sweeper. A fan FAQ lists its price at $20,000; that figure is not in the Steam patch text. Patch 1.0.4 made J.O.O.N.A.S. keep cleaning when no players are nearby, clean a hex from the outside inward at a stated “2x faster” rate, navigate more intelligently and avoid routine dock trips by launching capsules to the nearest catcher in the field. Its bin gauge flashes red when full.
Patch 1.0.5 improved capsule routing again: each capsule targets the emptiest catcher in the nearest group, with catchers counted as one group when they are within 100 metres. If every catcher in that group is above 80% full, the capsule moves to the next group. The patch also fixed distant hexes that could remain stuck at 99.9%.
Night Vision Goggles cost $350 in the 1.0.4 notes. Press N to cycle the lamp, goggles and off. A station-to-station teleport panel also arrived in 1.0.4, making long logistics routes less tedious without changing the core cleaning economics.

Yes, in 1.0.5. Older FAQs saying buildings are immovable or return only about 75% are outdated. With the Building Tool, press R to enter Move Mode and pick up a piece together with everything standing on it, then place it elsewhere for free. Right-click puts it back, X switches to remove mode, and R or Esc exits Move Mode; on a controller, press Y from remove mode.
Removing a piece now returns its entire purchase price rather than 75%. Buildings can be placed on dusty ground, machines snap to foundations, and F enables free placement where the construction rules allow it.

How long does it take to clean 100% of the Moon?
There is no official completion-time estimate. The launch map readout contains roughly 163,830 sectors, making 100% a very long-term objective rather than a normal campaign endpoint. Steam achievements mark 1%, 10%, 50% and 100% completion, but neither DragDrop Games nor Steam publishes an average number of hours for reaching those milestones.
Automation changes the rate at which a base earns and clears dust, not the size of the map. Treat full completion as an ongoing project and plan around reliable depot, catcher and belt capacity instead of expecting a fixed number of sessions.
Which patch details matter when reading older guides?
Launch-week guides can be misleading because several multiplayer and building rules changed within days.
- 1.0.3, 24 October: shared the Upgrade Matrix, added host kick and ban controls, allowed crewmates to place belt splitters and mergers, protected stored vehicles when demolishing garages, repaired saves and reported up to about 20% higher frame rates on large bases in developer tests.
- 1.0.4, 25 October at 20:47 GMT: reworked J.O.O.N.A.S., added goggles and teleport waypoints, created five external backups, synchronized cleaned ground, fixed older Proton startup problems and made DirectX 11 the AMD-safe default. Saves made in this build are forward-only.
- 1.0.5, 28 October: added Move Mode and full refunds, public-lobby warnings, smarter catcher load-balancing, a 90,000-world capsule cap and controller, input and loading fixes.
If a guide says upgrades remain per-player, buildings cannot move, or demolishing a structure returns only three-quarters of its price, it predates the current game.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Moon Sweepers’ automatic save backups stored?
Since patch 1.0.4, backups are kept outside Steam Cloud at C:Users[user-name]AppDataLocalLowDragDropGamesMoonSweepersBackups. The game keeps up to five backups per save slot, creating the first about one minute into a session and then another roughly every 30 minutes.
What does the “OH You Have Friends?” achievement require?
It requires starting a multiplayer game with at least one other player. Opening an empty multiplayer lobby by yourself does not satisfy the requirement.
How many sectors are on the Moon map?
The launch map readout shows approximately 163,830 sectors. That figure explains why the 100% achievement is a long-term target, but it is not an estimate of the hours any particular crew will need.
