You cannot play The Punished yet. As of October 30, 2026, Steam marks Monster Train 2: The Punished as unavailable and lists November 10, 2026 as the planned release date. It is paid DLC with an announced US price of $7.99, and it requires the Monster Train 2 base game on the same platform. Before launch, the only documented action is to open the official Steam DLC listing and wishlist it. Wishlisting does not grant ownership or early access.
Is The Punished DLC available yet?
No. The official Steam page still shows The Punished as unavailable on October 30, 2026, with a planned November 10, 2026 release. The announcement from Shiny Shoe and Big Fan describes it as paid downloadable content rather than a free clan patch. The Steam listing also says that Monster Train 2 is required to play it.

The announced price is $7.99 in the United States. That is a launch-price announcement, not a guarantee that every regional storefront will display the same converted amount, tax treatment or currency value. Check the live store page for your account region when the add-on becomes available.
There is no verified pre-release method for playing the clan, importing it through another edition or unlocking its leader early. A wishlist notification is the most you can obtain before launch.

What do I need before trying to access The Punished?
Prepare the platform account and base game first. The following checklist prevents the most common access mistake: buying or looking for an add-on on a platform where you do not own the base game.
- A copy of Monster Train 2: Steam explicitly states that the base game is required. Console stores likewise require you to own the applicable base-game edition on that platform.
- The correct storefront account: DLC purchases normally attach to the account and platform store that processed the transaction. Do not assume a PC purchase supplies a console entitlement.
- A live listing: Before November 10, the DLC may appear as an announcement or unavailable product. A purchase button, installation option or add-on entry is the useful sign that the store has published it.
- Sufficient account funds: The announced US price is $7.99, while your local total can differ. Keep payment or platform-store credit in the same account and region as the base game.
- Storage and updates: Leave room for a platform download and allow the base game to update. The available sources do not state the DLC’s file size.
How can I prepare on Steam before November 10?
Steam provides a documented pre-launch action, but not a way to play early.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the official Monster Train 2: The Punished page in the Steam client or a browser.
- Sign in to the Steam account that owns, or will own, Monster Train 2.
- Select Add to your wishlist while the DLC is still marked unavailable.
- Keep Steam notifications enabled if you want an alert when the product changes status.
- On or after the announced release date, return to the same page and verify that the purchase and installation controls are live for your region.
Do not treat a wishlist entry, a store page visit or a preloaded base-game update as DLC ownership. Steam’s listing does not promise an early unlock, a free entitlement or automatic access before release.
How do I obtain The Punished on or after launch?
Once the add-on is live, buy it from the platform store where you play Monster Train 2. The exact button labels can change by region and device, so use the live listing rather than an old screenshot or a pre-launch page.
- Open your platform’s store and search for Monster Train 2: The Punished.
- Confirm that the listing is the new Punished add-on, not the base game or an older expansion.
- Check the displayed regional price, account region and base-game requirement.
- Complete the purchase with that platform account.
- Allow the store to download or apply the add-on, then launch the installed base game.
- Look for The Punished or its clan content in the game’s current clan or run menus.
The last step is general post-purchase guidance, not a confirmed Punished-specific sequence. No checked official source documents a required story milestone, a particular menu path, a restart requirement or a special activation code. If the clan does not appear, use the troubleshooting section below instead of assuming an undisclosed progression rule.
How should I compare the buying routes?
The practical choice is determined less by the advertised price than by where you already own the base game. Compare these four points before paying:
- Base-game platform: Buy on Steam for a Steam copy, on Nintendo’s store for the applicable Switch edition, on PlayStation Store for PS5, or on Xbox’s store for Xbox. No cross-platform entitlement is announced.
- Listing status: A platform may show an announcement before its add-on page is purchasable. The checked Nintendo and Xbox pages had not yet listed The Punished among their add-ons on October 30.
- Regional total: $7.99 is the announced US figure. Currency conversion, taxes and local pricing can change the amount shown at checkout.
- Payment compatibility: Use a card or store credit accepted by the account’s country and platform. A gift card for one storefront cannot be treated as a DLC edition or transferred automatically to another.
Buying the expansion twice on separate platforms may be necessary if you want to play on both ecosystems; no official source promises a shared license. Wait for the correct listing rather than purchasing an older Monster Train 2 add-on as a substitute.

What is the availability by platform?
The publisher announces PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions for November 10. Storefront status was not identical before launch, so verify each platform’s live add-on page.
| Platform | What is documented | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Steam (Windows and macOS) | The DLC page exists, is unavailable before launch and lists November 10, 2026; the base game is required. | Wishlist now; purchase from the same Steam account when the listing goes live. |
| Nintendo Switch | The publisher announces a Switch release, but the checked Nintendo base-game page did not yet show The Punished among its add-ons. | Search the eShop on or after launch and confirm the add-on is live before paying. |
| PlayStation 5 | The publisher announces a PS5 release. A pre-launch purchase workflow was not confirmed in the available information. | Use the PS5 store listing tied to the account that owns the base game. |
| Xbox | The publisher announces an Xbox release, but the checked Xbox base-game page did not yet display The Punished as an add-on. | Check the Xbox store after the announced date for a live product page. |
The publisher also says separate Switch 2, iOS and Android versions with The Punished are planned later in 2026, without giving a precise date for those editions. Nintendo’s current Switch information says the existing Switch game is supported on Switch 2; that is not evidence that a separate Switch 2 edition of The Punished has already launched.
What happens after I buy the DLC?
Your platform should associate the purchase with the account that made it and install or enable the add-on through its normal update system. Restarting the game may be a sensible general troubleshooting step if a store reports ownership but the content is absent, but no official Punished source says a restart is mandatory.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMake sure the base game and its downloadable content are installed on the same platform profile. On Steam, check the game’s library properties and downloadable-content list after the transaction. On consoles, open the game’s manage-content or add-ons screen and confirm that the Punished item is installed or queued. These are platform-level checks, not a published Punished activation recipe.
If the store offers separate install controls, complete those before launching. A successful payment receipt alone does not prove that the download finished. Conversely, an installed item does not prove that the account owns the DLC if the transaction was made under a different profile.
Do I have to unlock Archus separately?
Archus, Darkness Incarnate, leads The Punished clan. However, no official source checked for this guide confirms a post-purchase quest, achievement, campaign chapter or number of runs required to make Archus selectable.
Do not confuse the clan’s gameplay design with an unlock condition. The official Steam description says friendly damage can trigger Punish, Bloodshed rewards friendly damage on the same floor, Chained shares suffering with enemies, and Tenacious protects allies from lethal friendly damage. Tribute to the Monolith raises Devotion during a run; Devotion powers cards and grants Zeal to new units. Those are mechanics supplied by the DLC, not instructions for obtaining it.

If Archus is missing after the store reports an installed purchase, first verify the account, edition and installation. Until an official post-launch instruction is published, there is no reliable basis for telling players to finish a particular run or story milestone.
Is The Punished free?
No. It is announced as a $7.99 US paid expansion. The earlier Destiny of the Railforged add-on and a separate free Wurmkin update are different products; seeing either one in a store does not prove that The Punished is installed or available.
Do not look for a Punished cartridge, collector’s box or DLC activation card based on the verified listings. The documented product is digital DLC. If you use store credit, it funds the platform purchase but is not The Punished itself.
Can I use a physical gift card to pay?
Gift cards are an optional way to fund the correct platform account, not a separate edition of the expansion.

- Steam: Steam says physical Steam gift cards can be redeemed toward Steam purchases, including digital content. Redeem the card on the account that owns Monster Train 2.
- Nintendo: Nintendo describes retailer eShop cards, while warning that card selection varies by retailer and region. Use a card compatible with your account’s country.
- PlayStation: PlayStation says retailer gift cards can fund digital add-ons. Confirm that the card and account use the same supported region.
No source here verifies a particular retailer’s stock, price, physical format or affiliate availability. Buy only after checking the platform’s regional terms and the live Punished listing.
What should I do if the DLC does not appear?
Work through these checks in order; each addresses a different failure mode.
- Check the date and listing: Before November 10, an unavailable page is expected. After launch, confirm that the add-on has a purchase or install control in your region.
- Check the base game: Verify that Monster Train 2 is owned and installed on the same platform account.
- Check the account and region: A purchase made on another account, console profile or country storefront may not appear where you are looking.
- Check the platform download queue: Open the game’s add-on or manage-content screen and look for a pending, paused or failed installation.
- Update the base game: Install any available game update, then relaunch after the platform reports the DLC as installed.
- Refresh the entitlement: Sign out and back in, or restart the platform, only as a general store troubleshooting measure. This is not a confirmed Punished-specific requirement.
- Contact platform support: If the store shows a completed transaction but no entitlement, retain the receipt and ask the platform holder to check the account purchase. The developer’s official channels can clarify an in-game issue once post-launch instructions exist.
Do not purchase the DLC a second time merely because the clan is absent from a menu. First establish whether the store recognizes ownership and whether the add-on is installed.

How can I tell The Punished apart from older Monster Train 2 content?
Use the full product name and its announced November 10, 2026 date. Destiny of the Railforged is an earlier paid expansion, and the Wurmkin content announced alongside it was a separate free update. Their presence in a console store can make an add-on list look complete even when The Punished has not yet been published for that platform.
The Steam listing identifies The Punished as a new playable clan led by Archus. Match that name before confirming a purchase, especially if your store displays several Monster Train 2 products together.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should I recheck after the launch date?
Store pages and platform policies can change at release. Recheck the following before writing down a permanent access procedure:
- The actual availability status and local price, rather than the announced US price alone.
- Whether Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox add-on pages are live in your region.
- The installation behavior shown by your platform after purchase.
- Any official in-game instructions explaining where The Punished or Archus appears.
- The separate timing for Switch 2, iOS and Android editions, since “later in 2026” is not a precise release date.
Until those details are published, the dependable answer is limited: own the base game, purchase the digital add-on from the matching platform store once it is live, install it, and follow any official activation instructions that appear after launch.
Launch-day checklist
On November 10, use this short sequence to avoid confusing an announcement with a released product:
- Open the platform store signed into the account that owns Monster Train 2.
- Search the exact title, Monster Train 2: The Punished, and verify that the product is the new Archus-led clan expansion.
- Check the displayed currency, tax-inclusive total where shown, and any platform-specific base-game requirement.
- Complete one purchase only, then wait for the store to confirm ownership and finish the download.
- Launch the updated base game and look for the clan. If it is absent, use account, installation and region checks before trying another transaction.
The announcement supplies a date, not a universal release hour. A store may switch from unavailable to purchasable at a platform-specific or local time, so an unavailable listing early on November 10 does not by itself indicate a failed purchase.

- Does wishlisting reserve a copy? No. It requests a notification and does not reserve inventory, lock the $7.99 price or create an entitlement.
- Can I play through a friend or family member’s purchase? No sharing arrangement is announced for The Punished. Follow the platform holder’s own family-sharing rules rather than assuming the DLC transfers with a shared library.
- Is the one-million-player milestone a DLC-owner count? No. Shiny Shoe and Big Fan reported more than one million Monster Train 2 players; that figure is not a count of Punished purchasers.
- Does the DLC include a separate campaign? The official description confirms a playable clan and its mechanics, but does not establish a separate campaign, chapter count or story requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What time on November 10 will The Punished unlock?
The announcement gives a calendar date but no universal release hour. Steam or a console store may publish a local-time countdown or change status at a platform-specific time, so check the product page rather than assuming midnight in your region.
Will a Steam purchase of The Punished work on PlayStation, Xbox or Switch?
No cross-platform entitlement is documented in the announcement or store listing. Treat each storefront as a separate purchase environment unless the platform holder explicitly states otherwise.
Can I access the clan through a subscription catalog instead of buying the DLC?
The verified information identifies The Punished as paid DLC and does not announce inclusion in any subscription service. A subscription listing, if one appears later, would be a separate platform policy and should be confirmed on that service.
Does The Punished add a new campaign or story chapter?
The official description confirms a playable clan and its mechanics, but it does not establish a separate campaign, chapter count or story requirement. Do not buy it expecting a specific narrative mode until the post-launch description says what is included.
Do I need to buy The Punished separately on each platform?
No shared license is announced. Assume each platform store requires its own purchase unless Steam, Nintendo, PlayStation or Xbox states that a cross-buy entitlement applies.
What if the store shows the DLC as owned but Archus is missing?
Confirm that the add-on finished installing, that you are using the purchasing account and that the base game is updated. No official unlock milestone is documented, so contact platform or developer support rather than repeating the purchase.
