No. As of 29 October 2026, Monster Train 2 has no official cross-save or cross-progression between a PC copy and a phone. The iOS and Android versions have been announced for 2026 but are not released, have no public App Store or Google Play pages, and come with no promised link to Steam or console saves. Shiny Shoe’s published rule is that you must progress independently on every platform where you buy the game.
There is cloud syncing inside individual ecosystems: Steam Cloud covers Steam devices, while Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox cloud saves connect Xbox consoles with the Xbox/Microsoft Store PC version. Those systems do not create a universal Monster Train 2 account, and Steam saves do not cross into Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, iOS or Android.

No. There is currently no supported way to carry your clans, Pyre Hearts, logbook entries, cosmetics or other metaprogression from a PC storefront to a future iPhone or Android version. The mobile ports are announced for 2026, not available to download as of 29 October 2026, and neither Shiny Shoe nor publisher Big Fan Games has announced an account-linked PC-to-mobile save system.
This is a cross-save question, not a cloud-backup question. Cross-save (also called cross-progression) means one metaprogression file follows you between different stores or platforms. Cloud save means a store synchronizes that store’s own save between compatible devices. Monster Train 2 supports the second arrangement in Steam and Xbox ecosystems, but not the first across those ecosystem walls.

What the developer actually said
On 20 May 2025, a Shiny Shoe developer using the name HARRISZONE answered a Steam Community question titled “is there cross save between console and PC?” with: “Negative – you’ll have to independently progress on each platform you purchase the game on I’m afraid!” The studio marked that reply as the answer.
When another player asked on 21 May 2025 whether the same rule applied to PC Game Pass and Steam, HARRISZONE replied: “Correct – these are two separate entities.” That directly rules out treating a Microsoft Store or Game Pass PC save as a Steam save.
When are the iPhone and Android versions coming?
Big Fan Games and Shiny Shoe announced on 28 October 2026 that Monster Train 2 is coming to iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. Reports based on that announcement describe the mobile versions as “coming later this year” or simply “planned for release in 2026.” No exact day has been announced.
As of 29 October 2026, there are no public App Store or Google Play pages and no downloadable phone client. A third-party TapTap listing shows Android, iOS and Steam labels, but its Steam-oriented details, including PC requirements and Steam Family Sharing information, do not prove that a mobile build is live.
Do not assume that a future store listing will add a PC-mobile save bridge. The 2025 independent-progress statement remains the latest explicit policy, and the October 2026 announcement did not reverse it. A later announcement could change that policy, but no such announcement exists yet.

How is cross-save different from cloud save in this game?
The practical distinction is the account and storefront that owns the save. A cloud service can move a save between devices in one ecosystem without making that save readable by another store.

Does Steam Cloud let me move my PC save to a handheld?
Yes, if the handheld is a Steam device. Steam Cloud is native to the Steam edition and gives you the straightforward way to continue a Steam save on another Steam PC, macOS computer or Steam Deck. PCGamingWiki lists 50 MB of Steam Cloud space for the game, while Prima Games says progress is shared between devices signed into the same Steam account.
Steam setup and checks
- Install the Steam edition on both devices and sign in to the same Steam account.
- In Steam, open the game’s properties and confirm Steam Cloud is enabled for Monster Train 2.
- Exit the game normally on the first device so the latest save can upload.
- Wait for Steam to finish synchronizing before launching the game on the second device.
- If Steam reports a conflict, compare the local and cloud timestamps and keep the copy that contains your latest metagame progress.
Steam Deck is therefore the honest “play my PC save on a portable screen” option today. It is still a Steam device, not a phone, and this convenience says nothing about a future iOS or Android cross-save feature.
Windows save location
Prima Games identifies the Windows folder as C:/Users/[Windows Username]/AppData/LocalLow/Shiny Shoe/MonsterTrain2. You can also open %USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/Shiny Shoe/MonsterTrain2 in File Explorer. Players commonly refer to the metaprogression file as metagameSave.json.
The Linux and Steam Play/Proton situation is different. On 2 June 2025, Shiny Shoe developer Sippy wrote: “Okay, got more info. Sadly we dont support Linux Steanm so cloud saves wont work. The only way around it is to move save files over manually, but that is also likely to break achivements.” Steam Deck running its supported Steam environment is not the same as an unsupported Linux Steam installation.

Does Xbox Play Anywhere sync the console and PC versions?
Yes, but only inside Xbox’s own ecosystem. Xbox’s cloud-gaming information lists Xbox cloud saves and Xbox Play Anywhere, and PCGamingWiki identifies the Microsoft Store edition as supporting Play Anywhere and Xbox Game Pass for PC. A player report on 25 May 2025 described starting on Xbox and finding the save in the Game Pass PC build, which is the expected Xbox-to-Xbox-PC path.
That path requires the Xbox/Microsoft Store edition and the same Microsoft account. It does not grant the Steam edition access to the save, and it is not a mobile bridge. Buying the title again on Steam, PlayStation or Nintendo creates a separate progression track.
Does this apply to PC Game Pass and Steam?
Yes. The developer’s 21 May 2025 reply says Game Pass PC and Steam are “two separate entities.” Pick one PC client if you want a single uninterrupted unlock history.
Community guides describe copying a file from the Xbox/Game Pass Windows Gaming Services package into the Steam folder. That is an unsupported file operation, not cross-save. File locations can change, cloud synchronization can overwrite the result, and manually moved progress can desynchronize achievements. Shiny Shoe has not promised support for converting one storefront’s save into another’s.

Can we just locally move the save file from Game Pass version to Steam version?
You can find community instructions for copying metagameSave.json, but the studio does not support that as a transfer feature. The same warning applies to moving a save between a Linux installation and a supported Steam setup: Sippy specifically cautioned that manual movement is likely to break achievements.

Make a backup before touching any file, close the game and its launcher, and expect the result to be unsupported. If the operation fails, do not keep overwriting copies while cloud sync is active. Restore the original backup first, then contact support with a description of the lost unlocks.
What happens on PlayStation, Switch and Switch 2?
There is no official save bridge from PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch to Steam, Xbox, mobile or another console family. Switch handheld or tabletop play uses the Switch edition’s own save. Nintendo’s US listing describes Monster Train 2 as a digital edition rather than a physical cartridge; a listed standard digital price was $24.99 in 2025.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility wording says “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That describes compatibility of the existing digital Switch build, not an account system that imports PC progress. A native Switch 2 version was included in the 2026 announcement alongside iOS and Android, but its release date and save policy have not been specified.

Plan on starting metaprogression again unless Shiny Shoe publishes a new policy before the phone launch. The current rule means a second purchase on another storefront can require replaying unlocks, even when the game itself is the same.
- Choose Steam if you want one save across Windows, macOS and Steam Deck.
- Choose the Xbox/Microsoft Store route if you want Xbox console, Xbox cloud saves and Play Anywhere with the PC edition.
- Choose Switch for portable or tabletop play within Nintendo’s ecosystem.
- Do not buy a phone version on the assumption that it will read your Steam or console file.
- Watch the official iOS and Android store pages and a Shiny Shoe or Big Fan Games announcement for any change to this policy.
The separate DLC announcement does not alter saves. “The Punished” is scheduled for PC and current consoles on 10 November 2026, with a publisher-listed price of $7.99 in reports from MonsterVine and Output Lag; its announcement describes new content, not account-linked progression.

What if my Steam or Linux save is lost?
Shiny Shoe developer shinycami described a recovery route on 16 June 2025: list the unlocks you had and email [email protected] for a replacement save. That is a support restoration process, not synchronization between stores, and it does not make a Game Pass, console or mobile save compatible with Steam.
Does Monster Train 2 support cross-save between PC and mobile? The practical answer
Not at present. Mobile is an unreleased 2026 project with no announced PC-mobile save link, while Steam Cloud and Xbox Play Anywhere each work only inside their respective ecosystems. If uninterrupted progress matters, buy and stay within the ecosystem whose devices you intend to use.

Does the Monster Train 2 demo progress transfer to the full game?
No. Prima Games reported that demo progress does not carry into the full release, even when players copy the demo files into the full game’s save location. Starting the purchased edition therefore creates a separate progression state.
How much Steam Cloud storage does Monster Train 2 use?
PCGamingWiki lists 50 MB of Steam Cloud space for the game. That allowance belongs to the Steam edition and does not provide storage that Xbox, Nintendo, Apple or Google versions can read.
Is the Nintendo Switch version of Monster Train 2 a physical cartridge?
