Buy Monster Train 2 now if you want to play the deckbuilder today. The Punished is an add-on clan planned for November 10, 2026, and its Steam listing says it is not yet available and requires the base game. There is no verified, purchasable base-game-plus-Punished bundle or discount to compare as of October 30, 2026. If Archus and the Punished clan are the reason you are shopping, wishlist the DLC and wait for a live listing; otherwise, the available base game is the only purchase that starts playing immediately.

Which Monster Train 2 purchase is available right now?
The base game is the only immediately playable choice. Steam dates Monster Train 2 to May 21, 2025 and lists the sequel’s core additions, while The Punished page schedules the DLC for November 10, 2026. The DLC page also states, “This content is not yet available on Steam,” so a checkout price or combined package cannot be confirmed today.

What the base game includes
The official Steam description advertises five brand-new clans, combat across three vertical levels, Room cards and Equipment cards, plus additional modes. These are feature counts from the publisher’s live listing, not sales, review or performance measurements. The base game is a complete playable sequel without The Punished.

What The Punished adds
The Punished is additional content rather than a separate game. Its advertised clan is led by Archus and deliberately damages friendly units to create advantages. Punish and Bloodshed reward damage; Chained shares damage with enemies; and Tenacious protects allies from lethal friendly damage. Tribute to the Monolith raises Devotion and grants Zeal. These mechanics describe the design hook shown on the product page, not a hands-on assessment of balance or fun.
Should you buy the base game or wait for The Punished?
Match the purchase to what you need today, not to an assumed future package. The following choices use the currently documented availability and requirements.
| Your situation | Sensible action | Verify before paying |
|---|---|---|
| You want the deckbuilder now and are undecided about the new clan | Buy the available base game. | Live price on your platform and whether you already own the game. |
| You own Monster Train 2 on Steam and want Archus’s mechanics | Wishlist or revisit The Punished when it becomes purchasable. | Release status, actual DLC price and any clearly stated owner discount. |
| You want both for the lowest total | Wait for an authorized combined offer, then compare it with separate purchases. | Exact included products, platform, region, total price and whether The Punished is named. |
| A store page says Deluxe, Collection or Destiny of the Railforged | Open the included-item list rather than relying on the edition name. | Whether the listing contains The Punished specifically. |
Does the Deluxe edition include The Punished?
No. Steam’s Monster Train 2 Deluxe edition itemizes the base game, soundtrack and Digital Compendium. The compendium includes an art book in PDF form; the listed contents do not identify The Punished.
“Deluxe” is therefore not a substitute name for the planned DLC bundle. If a future Deluxe package changes, rely on its current itemized contents and purchase date rather than the label alone.

Is Monster Train Collection the same as a Punished bundle?
No. The PlayStation description for Monster Train Collection says, “This bundle includes Monster Train and Monster Train 2.” It combines the original game and the sequel, not the planned Punished clan. A US PlayStation listing showed the Collection at $44.99 when checked in 2026; that regional, time-specific observation is not a universal price and does not establish DLC entitlement.
The separate Destiny of the Railforged add-on is another source of confusion. It released on February 2, 2026 and contains different content. The US PlayStation base-game page showed that add-on at $9.99 when checked, but that price is not The Punished’s price.

Steam
The Punished listing specifically requires the Steam version of Monster Train 2. It lists Windows and macOS requirements for the DLC, but it does not currently offer a purchase price. The base game’s Steam page is the appropriate place to confirm the game license and regional price before checkout.

PlayStation
The PS5 base game was shown at $24.99 in the US store when checked in 2026. That figure is tied to the US storefront and that check date; it should not be presented as the price in another country or on another platform. The checked PlayStation pages establish the base game, Collection and Railforged listings, but not a purchasable Punished add-on.
Nintendo Switch
Nintendo’s listing identifies the Switch release as a Digital edition and says the Switch version is supported on Switch 2. Its checked downloadable-content section showed Destiny of the Railforged, not a verified Punished purchase. Do not infer that the Steam November date applies to Nintendo’s storefront without a corresponding Nintendo listing.
How do you avoid buying the wrong edition?
Use the product contents and ownership requirement as your checklist. Edition names can be similar while granting different games or extras.
- Start with the platform’s official product page. Use the Monster Train 2 base-game listing or the storefront you intend to use. Confirm the platform, region and current price at the moment of purchase.
- Read the included-items section. Look for an explicit line naming “The Punished.” Soundtracks, art books, Digital Compendiums, the original Monster Train or Destiny of the Railforged do not prove that the Punished clan is included.
- Check the prerequisite. Steam states that The Punished requires Monster Train 2. A DLC-only purchase cannot replace the base game.
- Separate confirmed products from proposed bundles. If a page does not show a combined package, price and contents, treat the bundle as unavailable rather than estimating savings from individual prices.
- Keep the receipt and platform record. DLC entitlement follows the store account and platform listing used for purchase; the available information does not establish automatic ownership on another storefront.
What should you check when The Punished launches?
Recheck the listing when it becomes purchasable, or sooner if an authorized retailer advertises a bundle. The planned date is November 10, 2026, but a scheduled date is not proof that a product is live in every region.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Confirm that the page has a purchase button rather than the “not yet available” notice.
- Record the platform and country before comparing prices.
- Read every included product in a combined offer and make sure The Punished is named, not merely implied by “Deluxe” or “Collection.”
- Compare the bundle total with separate base-game and DLC prices shown on the same storefront.
- Check whether an existing Monster Train 2 owner receives a clearly stated discount.
- Do not treat a third-party listing as authoritative unless the seller and entitlement can be verified.
These checks matter because prices, release status and package contents can change independently. The official Steam DLC page is the most direct reference for the Steam launch state: Monster Train 2: The Punished.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is waiting worth it if you are new to Monster Train?
Wait only when the new clan is central to your decision. The base game already supplies the sequel’s five new clans, three-level battles, Room and Equipment cards and additional modes, so a new player can begin learning those systems without the DLC.
If you are mainly interested in the Punished mechanics, waiting avoids paying for a base game before you know the add-on’s price or whether a combined offer will be better. Because no discount has been verified, buying early is a play-now choice, not a demonstrated way to save money.
How we separated the editions
The recommendation follows four factual tests: whether the product is purchasable on the checked storefront; whether it requires the base game; which named items the package includes; and whether a live regional price is actually shown. Feature descriptions are taken from official store listings, while prices are labeled with their platform, country and October 2026 check date. No sales statistic, performance benchmark or independent review result is used to rank the purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can The Punished be purchased as a standalone game?
No. The Steam listing defines it as downloadable content and names Monster Train 2 as a prerequisite. A DLC license therefore does not replace ownership of the base game on that storefront.
Is Destiny of the Railforged included with Monster Train 2 Deluxe?
The checked Deluxe item list names the base game, soundtrack and Digital Compendium, not Destiny of the Railforged. Railforged is a separate add-on released on February 2, 2026.

Does buying Monster Train 2 on PlayStation unlock the Steam version?
No cross-platform entitlement is established by the available listings. Treat Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo purchases as separate storefront licenses unless the platform explicitly states otherwise.
Where can I see whether The Punished has launched?
The Steam product page changes from its planned-release notice to a live purchase option when Valve makes the DLC available there. Console availability needs a matching listing on that console’s own store; the Steam date alone does not confirm it.
