If you want a small object that looks like a computer, Brickstuff’s BK04 or BK05 is the more direct fit; if you want the build itself to be changeable or mechanically interactive, a LEGO gaming-device replica is a better match. Neither category should be mistaken for a working PC. The Brickstuff models use lights, while LEGO’s examples are replicas of handheld and console hardware; a computer for coding or software requires a separate electronics project.
The word “play” can mean blinking lights, turning a crank, swapping display parts, rebuilding a model, or running actual software. Those are different experiences. This comparison separates the computer-shaped miniatures from LEGO’s gaming-device replicas and from small computers such as Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, so you can choose based on the finished object and the kind of interaction you actually want.

The LEGO Game Boy, NES and Atari are adjacent examples of gaming-device builds, not direct desktop-PC model kits. LEGO marked the Game Boy available and the NES and Atari sets retired when checked. Brickstuff’s BK04 and BK05 pages showed conflicting inventory labels (“Unavailable” and “Only 1 left”), so current stock cannot be inferred from those labels. The listed specifications are manufacturer-published, not independent durability or assembly-time ratings.
The comparison is about distinct categories rather than a single winner across every use. The small Brickstuff models are the closest match for a computer-shaped display. LEGO’s official sets offer a more substantial brick-building experience and, in the NES example, a moving mechanism. A Raspberry Pi or Piper kit is the appropriate direction only if you want a device that computes or teaches coding.

What counts as a miniature PC kit, a LEGO computer, or a working computer?
Those phrases can describe three different purchases. Separating them first avoids comparing a decorative model with a computer that can run software.
- Miniature computer model: A small replica meant to look like computer hardware. Brickstuff’s BK04 depicts a mainframe and BK05 a processing unit; each has LED effects. They are not described as computers that run programs.
- Computer- or gaming-themed brick build: A model made from interlocking building elements, usually representing a device such as a handheld or console. The LEGO examples here are gaming hardware replicas rather than desktop-PC models.
- Working computer: Electronics capable of running software. A Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is a small computer board; Raspberry Pi’s Build HAT can connect a suitable Pi to compatible LEGO Technic motors and sensors. This is a separate project, not a hidden feature of a display set.
“Play” also means different things across these categories: a light effect, a hand-operated moving part, changing a model’s display, rebuilding it, programming electronics, or playing a digital game. Only the latter kinds of computing require working electronics and software. A crank or a moving replica button can be enjoyable to operate without controlling a game.
There is also a brand distinction. Brickstuff says its BK04 and BK05 kits use genuine LEGO elements, but they are third-party products, not official LEGO computer sets. Game Boy 72046, NES 71374 and Atari 2600 10306 are official LEGO sets. If official branding matters to you, treat that as a separate buying criterion from whether the model resembles a computer.
Which option makes the better computer-shaped display?
For a shelf object that visibly represents computer hardware, the two documented Brickstuff kits are the closest fit. The LEGO products offer official brick-built gaming replicas, but they depict handheld or console devices rather than a desktop computer or mainframe. The visual choice is subjective: decide whether you want a recognizable piece of computer equipment, a handheld-console silhouette, or a larger retro gaming scene.
Brickstuff BK04 and BK05: computer-specific miniatures
BK04 depicts a miniature mainframe and uses 51 genuine LEGO elements; BK05 depicts a processing unit and uses 36. Brickstuff lists six LEDs, a lighting controller and a 3×AAA battery pack for each. The buyer supplies the batteries. The manufacturer describes the kits as using genuine LEGO elements, but they are third-party products—not official LEGO computer sets. Brickstuff’s BK04 listing is available at its product page.
The choice between the two is mainly about the intended silhouette: a mainframe-style object or a processing-unit-style object. Their computer-specific subject matter is a closer match to a miniature PC display than the gaming-device replicas below. The light effects add visual activity but do not indicate that the models compute. Six LEDs and a lighting controller describe the visual feature set; they do not imply a screen, keyboard, operating system, or game functionality.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor space planning, compare the shape you want on the shelf and verify the dimensions on the current product listing before ordering. The product information cited here gives element counts and lighting details, but it does not establish a measured footprint or a measured assembly time. Do not infer that a lower piece count necessarily means a faster build or a smaller finished model.

LEGO Game Boy: a compact official handheld replica
LEGO’s Game Boy 72046 is a 421-piece, near-1:1-scale replica that stands over 5.5 inches high and includes a stand and interchangeable display components. It is a well-defined option for someone who wants an official brick-built gaming device, not a miniature desktop PC. LEGO explicitly says the set has no light, sound or digital play functions.
Its appeal is therefore the replica and the build, not playing Game Boy software. Swapping display components and buttons gives the finished model some variation, while the stand makes it straightforward to present as a desk or shelf object. That kind of customization is different from programming the model or loading games onto it. LEGO marked the set available when checked; availability and price can still change.
LEGO NES and Atari: larger retro-display ideas
The LEGO NES 71374 is a 2,646-piece build with a television whose scene scrolls when a hand crank is turned, plus a buildable cartridge. A LEGO Mario figure is separate and is needed for the stated interactive reactions. The crank creates repeatable mechanical movement, but it does not make the television display actual NES software. LEGO marked the NES set retired when checked, so it should be treated as a collector-oriented example rather than a reliably available purchase.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The LEGO Atari 2600 10306 is another retro-themed tableau, with cartridges, game-inspired scenes, moving replica controls and a hidden 1980s scene. LEGO marked it retired when checked. LEGO designer Chris McVeigh wrote on the official Atari product page, “Working on this project in time for ATARI®’s 50th anniversary was a dream come true.” That statement describes the designer’s enthusiasm for the project, not game-playing functionality.
These two retired sets show why “more interactive” and “more available” are separate questions. The NES has a hand-operated moving scene, and the Atari has moving replica controls, but retirement means you should check the specific seller, condition and contents rather than assume a normal retail purchase. A used or collector listing is not the same as a currently available manufacturer listing.
What can you actually do with each kit?
The useful distinction is between an effect or mechanical interaction and digital play. A moving control or blinking LED can make a display more engaging without turning it into a working PC or console.
| Option | Documented interaction | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Brickstuff BK04 / BK05 | Six LEDs provide lighting effects; a controller and 3×AAA battery pack are specified. | Running PC software or games. |
| LEGO Game Boy 72046 | Display components and buttons can be swapped; it can be assembled and displayed on its stand. | LEGO says it has no light, sound or digital play functions. |
| LEGO NES 71374 | A hand crank moves the television scene; a separate LEGO Mario figure is used for the stated interactive reactions. | Playing NES software on the model. |
| LEGO Atari 2600 10306 | Replica controls move, and the build contains small game-inspired scenes. | Running Atari games. |
| Raspberry Pi with Build HAT | A suitable Raspberry Pi can work with compatible LEGO Technic motors and sensors; Raspberry Pi states the Build HAT supports up to four compatible motors and sensors. | A ready-to-assemble decorative kit or a complete project with all parts and power supplied. |
Think about which interaction you would repeat after the build is finished. If you mainly want a lighted object, the Brickstuff LEDs are the relevant feature. If you want to turn a mechanism by hand, the NES is the clear example in this group. If you want to change what the model looks like, the Game Boy’s interchangeable display pieces are relevant. If you want to write code or run software, look beyond all of these display replicas.

How should you choose between a model and a brick build?
Start with the finished object and the kind of interaction you want, rather than the word “computer” in a product description. The best fit changes depending on whether you want a computer-shaped ornament, an official LEGO build, or electronics that run code.
- Choose a computer-shaped miniature if the finished display should read as a mainframe or processing unit. BK04 and BK05 are the documented options here, although their reported stock status is contradictory.
- Choose the LEGO Game Boy if you want a compact official LEGO handheld replica and value swappable display components more than digital functionality.
- Choose the NES if the hand-cranked scrolling scene is the main attraction and you are comfortable seeking a set LEGO marked retired.
- Choose the Atari 2600 if you want a retro-gaming tableau with scene details and moving replica controls; LEGO also marked this set retired.
- Choose an electronics project if the goal is coding, running software, or driving sensors and motors. Expect to plan for the computer board, compatible components, power and any necessary peripherals.
Before buying, check whether the finished piece needs to resemble a desktop PC rather than a console, how much display space is available, what “play” means to you, which parts and power components are included, and whether the specific item can be purchased now. Those questions matter more than a piece count alone.
A practical checklist before checkout
- Match the silhouette. Decide whether you want a computer tower or processing-unit look, a handheld device, or a console-and-TV scene. The LEGO examples are gaming-device analogues, so they are not substitutes if desktop-PC appearance is the priority.
- Separate display from function. Look for explicit details about lights, moving parts, software, and power. Do not treat words such as “interactive” or “play” as proof that a replica runs games.
- Check the contents. BK04 and BK05 specify a controller and battery pack but not batteries. The NES’s stated interactive reactions use a LEGO Mario figure that is separate. For a Pi project, verify the board, HAT, motors or sensors, power and other needed parts individually.
- Confirm stock and status. A retired LEGO set may be found through a collector or resale listing, but that is different from ordinary current retail stock. Brickstuff’s two conflicting stock labels should be checked directly with the seller before relying on an order.
- Compare price with the intended use. A dated listing price is useful as a reference, not a guarantee or a direct value comparison across a lighted miniature, a 421-piece official LEGO model, and a complete electronics project.
What do the documented prices and stock status tell you?
US manufacturer-page prices captured on October 30, 2026, were $49.99 for Brickstuff BK04, $41.99 for BK05 and $59.99 for LEGO Game Boy 72046. They are a dated price snapshot, not a guarantee of a current in-stock transaction. The NES and Atari examples were marked retired, and no current price for either is asserted here.
Brickstuff’s product pages each displayed both “Unavailable” and “Only 1 left” when checked, conflicting signals that do not establish whether checkout is possible. LEGO marked the Game Boy available and the NES 71374 and Atari 2600 10306 retired. Retirement is not the same as proof that no secondhand copy exists, but it also does not justify assuming normal retail availability. Confirm the listing, seller, stock and complete contents before ordering.
These prices also do not make the products direct value equivalents. BK04 and BK05 are compact lighted miniatures with specified parts; Game Boy is a 421-piece official replica; and a working Raspberry Pi setup requires hardware beyond a decorative model. Compare what is included and what you want it to do, not just the headline price or element count. Prices and stock should be rechecked on the relevant seller page at the time of purchase.
What if you want to build a real computer with LEGO?
A Raspberry Pi project is the route to actual computation, while a ready-made miniature display is the route to a finished shelf object. Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is a small working computer board with stated dimensions of 65 mm × 30 mm; those are board dimensions, not the size of a completed miniature build.
The Zero 2 W’s header footprint is unpopulated, so the board does not arrive with that header populated. That matters when planning how to connect accessories: check the exact board and connection requirements before choosing parts. Its compact board size alone does not tell you the size, power needs or completeness of a final project.

For a project involving LEGO Technic, Raspberry Pi says its Build HAT supports up to four compatible motors and sensors. That is a stated support capacity, not a claim that a motor set is included. It is an electronics-building path that requires a suitable Pi, compatible components and attention to power; it is not a claim that the HAT itself includes a motor set or converts a display replica into a computer.

These products serve different goals and should not be ranked as if they were competing shelf decorations.
Keep the categories distinct when shopping: a flashing model can be a satisfying display without being a computer, and a working Pi project can be more capable without being a finished miniature PC model. Are the Brickstuff kits official LEGO sets?
No. Brickstuff says BK04 and BK05 use genuine LEGO elements, but they are third-party kits. LEGO Game Boy, NES and Atari replicas are official LEGO sets.
What if I want to build a real computer with LEGO?
Treat it as a separate electronics project. Raspberry Pi says Build HAT supports up to four compatible LEGO Technic motors and sensors when used with a suitable Pi and compatible components. You will need to plan for the computer, parts and power; the display replicas do not become computers.

The Bottom Line
For a compact display that actually looks like computer equipment, start with Brickstuff BK04 or BK05—but verify stock because the manufacturer pages showed conflicting availability labels. Choose an official LEGO gaming-device replica if building, swapping display details or operating a mechanical feature matters more than a desktop-PC silhouette. Choose Raspberry Pi or Piper only if you want real computing or coding, and plan for the additional components and power that project entails. None of the lights, moving replica controls or scrolling model scenes should be confused with running PC software or games.
