Verdict: the Matador Conquest 4 Burner BBQ, customer item number (I/N) 0096773, is attractive on paper but difficult to recommend as a new purchase because it is discontinued and its owner-review record is poor. It offers a large four-burner cooking area, a side burner, cast-iron cooking surfaces and a cabinet trolley. However, reports collected by ProductReview describe corrosion, ignition failures, uneven heating, melted knobs and difficult warranty interactions. A used example can make sense only if it is priced for its age, passes a careful gas-and-structure inspection, and has obtainable replacement parts.
This review identifies the exact model, reconciles its published specifications, explains its LPG requirements, and gives you a practical inspection and maintenance checklist.

What exactly is the Matador Conquest 4 Burner BBQ I/N 0096773?
This is an LPG barbecue sold as the Matador Conquest 4 Burner BBQ with cabinet and side burner. Garth Support identifies the internal product code as BUN-430-410-AA-S004.19 and the APN as 9333417020103. The appliance has four main burners, a separate side burner, a cabinet-style trolley, a hood window, a temperature gauge, a warming rack and jet-force ignition. The exact model is recorded as discontinued by CHOICE; the manufacturer’s current four-burner range lists newer Ignite+, Spark and Ignite models instead.
That distinction matters when you are shopping. A current-looking advertisement may use “Conquest” or “four burner” language while showing a different model. Match the I/N, the internal code, the burner layout and the physical cabinet before assuming that a listing is for 0096773.

What are the Matador Conquest 0096773 specifications?
The most detailed current technical data comes from the Garth Support manual and specification sheet. CHOICE’s exact-model record reports some figures in a different format, so both records are shown rather than silently treating them as interchangeable.
| Specification | Garth Support specification (2025) | CHOICE exact-model record (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking area | 800 × 480 mm (0.384 m² when calculated) | 0.38 m² total cooking area |
| Assembled dimensions | 1533 × 692 × 1205 mm | 121 × 153 × 68 cm |
| Net weight | 61.5 kg | Not stated |
| Heat input | 60 + 10.3 MJ/hr | Not stated |
| Gas | ULPG, 2.75 kPa supply pressure | LPG fuel |
| Main burners | Four; cast iron | Four; cast-iron burners |
| Cooking surfaces | One cast-iron hotplate and one cast-iron grill | Cast-iron hotplate and grill |
| Ignition | Jet-force ignition | Jet-force ignition |
| Warranty | Not stated in the cited specification | Five years listed in the record |
| Listed price | Not stated | $699 in the CHOICE record |
The dimension records are not identical: Garth gives 1533 × 692 × 1205 mm, while CHOICE gives 121 × 153 × 68 cm. They may reflect different measuring conventions, model-record data or which projections were included. Use the manual’s assembly drawing and measure the actual unit when planning a bench, cover or clearance; do not rely on a single online dimension for a tight installation.

The appliance is specified for ULPG at 2.75 kPa. Treat the regulator, hose and cylinder as matched safety components rather than interchangeable accessories.
What features do you get for the money?
The Conquest’s strongest specification is capacity. An 800 × 480 mm cooking surface gives room for multiple zones, while the side burner handles a saucepan or sauce without taking space from the main grill. The cabinet trolley conceals the cylinder and cooking accessories, and the hood window lets you observe food without opening the lid as often.
Cast-iron cooking system
The grill, hotplate and burners are cast iron. Cast iron can hold and radiate heat effectively, but it also demands drying, oiling and rust control. A neglected surface may look acceptable after a quick scrub while having deep pitting underneath; inspect the metal rather than judging only by the black finish.
Jet-force ignition and heat control
Jet-force ignition is the model’s specified lighting system. In normal use, each main burner should light reliably from the ignition sequence and cross-light across the burner row. Uneven flames, delayed ignition or a burner that lights only with a match can indicate blocked ports, damaged cross-lighting hardware, a failed igniter or corrosion around the burner supports.

Hood, warming rack and trolley
The hood window and temperature gauge are useful for indirect cooking, but the gauge shows hood temperature rather than the exact temperature at the food. Check that the hinge, window seal, warming rack and cabinet doors are straight and secure. A trolley that rocks, has swollen panels or has heavy rust around the cylinder area is a larger safety concern than cosmetic surface marks.
Is the Matador Conquest 4 Burner worth buying?
For a new purchase, the discontinued status and weak reliability evidence outweigh the generous specification unless you have unusually strong parts support. For a used purchase, the answer depends on condition and price: a clean, complete unit with a sound gas train can be practical, while a rusty one can quickly cost more than a supported current barbecue.
| Reasons to consider it | Reasons to be cautious |
|---|---|
| Large four-burner layout and 0.38 m²-class cooking area | Exact model is discontinued |
| Separate side burner for pans | Current replacement-part availability is not established by the published sources |
| Cast-iron grill and hotplate retain heat well when maintained | Owner reports repeatedly mention rust and corrosion |
| Cabinet trolley, hood window, gauge and warming rack | Reports include ignition faults, uneven heating and melted knobs |
| Substantial 61.5 kg construction | Heavy cast iron increases cleaning and lifting demands |
| Published five-year warranty in the CHOICE record | A discontinued unit may have limited or non-transferable warranty support; terms must be verified |
The sensible buying rule is to value this model as an older, discontinued appliance, not as a $699 new-equipment equivalent. Add the cost of a cover, regulator, hose, burners, plates and any professional gas work before comparing it with a current model that has active support.
What do owners report about rust, ignition and heating?
ProductReview’s record shows 1.2/5 from 10 reviews in 2026. Its displayed subratings are 1.9/5 for build quality, 1.6/5 for value for money, 2.9/5 for ease of use, 1.4/5 for cleaning and maintenance, 3.4/5 for preheating speed and 3.4/5 for safety.
| Reported issue | What owners describe | What to check on a particular unit |
|---|---|---|
| Corrosion | Rusting grill plates or burner areas | Burner brackets, cross-lighting rails, plate undersides, firebox seams and cabinet floor |
| Ignition | Ignition failures or unreliable lighting | Electrode condition, battery or ignition source, spark path and whether every burner cross-lights |
| Heat distribution | Uneven heating | Flame pattern across each burner and temperature consistency from left to right |
| Controls | Melted knobs | Knob shafts, bezel alignment and signs that heat has reached the control panel |
| After-sales service | Difficult warranty interactions | Original receipt, warranty correspondence and the seller’s willingness to support a fault |
These are consumer-reported ownership experiences, not controlled laboratory tests. They show a pattern worth investigating, but they do not prove that every Conquest 0096773 will fail in the same way.
One warranty discussion reproduces a Matador/Garth support response stating: “Based on the available information we determine that the root cause of the reported deterioration to cross lighter and burners is a direct result of lack of reasonable steps taken regarding care and maintenance. The corrosion would not have occurred if precautionary steps had been done as directed in the Product Manual.” This is a case-specific warranty position reproduced in the ProductReview record, not an independent engineering finding. It does, however, underline how important cleaning, drying and weather protection are for this design.

What gas, location and safety requirements apply?
The manual warns that improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service or maintenance can cause property damage, injury or death. It specifies outdoor use only, the correct gas cylinder, regulator and hose, and warns not to move the barbecue while it is operating. Accessible parts can become extremely hot. Read the Garth Support manual and specification PDF before assembly or troubleshooting.
- Confirm the fuel. The published specification is ULPG at 2.75 kPa. Do not connect a different gas type or pressure regulator because a connector appears to fit.
- Use a sound hose and regulator. Check the hose for cracking, abrasion, kinks, heat damage and an expired or unknown date. Replace suspect components through an appropriately qualified gas professional.
- Install outdoors. Keep the appliance away from enclosed rooms, combustible walls, overhanging materials and high-traffic routes. Follow the manual’s clearance instructions.
- Check the cylinder position. It must be the correct type and secured in the trolley as directed, with the valve accessible and the hose routed away from hot surfaces.
- Leak-test before lighting. With burners off, apply an approved leak-detection solution to connections and open the cylinder valve. Bubbles indicate a leak: close the valve, do not ignite, and have the connection repaired.
- Light with the hood position required by the manual. Keep your face and hands away from burners. If ignition does not occur promptly, turn controls off, wait for gas to clear, and investigate rather than repeatedly releasing gas.
- Watch the first burn. Confirm stable blue flames, consistent cross-lighting and no heat reaching the knobs or hose. Shut down immediately if flames appear outside the burner area.
- Never move it while hot or lit. Allow the barbecue and cast iron to cool completely before repositioning, cleaning or covering it.
Gas work, regulator changes and repairs to the gas train should be handled by a licensed professional where required in your jurisdiction. The manual’s safety warnings take precedence over generic barbecue advice.

How should you inspect a used Conquest 0096773 before paying?
Take a torch, camera, paper towel and a small mirror. Ask the seller to demonstrate the barbecue cold, then operating, and do not accept “it only needs a clean” without seeing the burners and firebox.
- Verify identity. Match the I/N 0096773, the internal code BUN-430-410-AA-S004.19 or APN 9333417020103 where labels are available. Photograph the rating plate and serial information.
- Inspect the cooking surfaces. Remove the grill and hotplate. Reject plates with deep pitting, cracks, flaking scale or distortion that prevents a stable fit.
- Inspect burners and supports. Look underneath for perforated sections, collapsed ends, rust flakes, loose brackets and blocked ports. Pay particular attention to the cross-lighting parts mentioned in owner reports.
- Test every control. Each knob should turn smoothly, return to off and remain firmly attached. Melted plastic, heat discoloration or a loose shaft suggests previous overheating.
- Test ignition and cross-lighting. With the seller following the manual, confirm that the ignition sparks and that each main burner lights without dangerous delay. Do not lean over the open firebox.
- Check heat distribution. After preheating, look for a consistent flame pattern and cook a small test item if permitted. A cold strip, flare-up or burner that dies when another is lit needs diagnosis.
- Examine the firebox and cabinet. Surface staining is less serious than holes, warped panels, loose fasteners or corrosion around the cylinder shelf and burner mounts.
- Inspect grease management. Remove and examine the grease tray and channels. A perforated tray, heavy combustible buildup or missing parts can create a flare-up risk.
- Check hose and regulator age. Record markings and replacement dates where present. Unknown-age components should be costed as replacements, not treated as included value.
- Look for weather exposure. A missing cover, water trapped in the hood, white corrosion on fittings and rust under the firebox indicate storage problems. Ask how it was covered, dried and serviced.
- Confirm documents and parts. Obtain the manual, receipt, service history and any parts already replaced. Contact support with the model code before paying to ask whether the specific burner, plate, ignition and tray parts can still be supplied.
Do not transport or test a leaking or structurally compromised unit. If the seller will not allow a full inspection, price it as a non-working project—or walk away.
Can you still get parts for a discontinued Matador Conquest?
There is no published guarantee that all parts for I/N 0096773 remain in stock. The discontinued listing means you should verify availability before buying, especially for cast-iron plates, burners, cross-lighting hardware, ignition components, knobs and the grease tray. A support representative may need the internal code BUN-430-410-AA-S004.19 rather than the retail name.
Replacement cooking surfaces require more than matching length and width. If you search for a cast iron BBQ grill plate replacement, measure the opening, thickness, support ledges, drain holes and locating tabs, then compare the mounting geometry. No cited source confirms that a generic listing is an exact fit for 0096773, so do not order on dimensions alone.

Before committing to a used unit, ask for written confirmation of the parts that matter most. If a burner or firebox component is unavailable, a low purchase price does not make the barbecue serviceable. The Gumtree search results can show what used units are being offered, but listings change and are not evidence of parts support or condition.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How do you prevent rust and keep the cast iron usable?
Cast iron lasts longer when it is cleaned, dried and lightly protected after each use. Maintenance cannot reverse metal that has rusted through, but it can reduce the surface corrosion associated with wet storage and grease buildup.
- After cooking, run the burners briefly to reduce residue, following the manual’s shutdown instructions.
- When the barbecue is cool enough to handle, brush loose food from the grill and hotplate with a suitable brush.
- Remove grease from the tray and channels before it accumulates. Dispose of grease safely; never wash it into a drain.
- Wash removable cast iron only as needed, dry it immediately and apply a thin food-safe coating of cooking oil to bare surfaces.
- Keep water out of the burner ports, ignition electrode and gas controls. If any component becomes wet, dry it fully before lighting.
- Use a breathable, correctly fitted cover and allow the barbecue to cool and dry before covering it.
- Inspect beneath the plates and around burner brackets regularly, not just the visible cooking face.
- Replace damaged plates, burners, trays, hoses or regulators rather than continuing to use corroded safety-critical parts.
Follow the product manual for cleaning agents and disassembly limits. Aggressive scraping that removes protective material can accelerate rust, while leaving grease on a hotplate can create flare-ups.
How does the discontinued Conquest compare with current choices?
The relevant comparison is not only burner count. A current barbecue with fewer cosmetic features but active parts support may cost less over its life than an older Conquest requiring a burner set, plate and regulator.
| Decision axis | Conquest 0096773 | What to demand from an alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Availability and parts | Discontinued; current stock for individual parts is not established | Live parts catalogue, identifiable model number and a support channel that confirms stock |
| Cooking surface | Cast-iron grill and hotplate; condition varies by age and care | Replacement surfaces available at a known cost and dimensions that suit your cooking |
| Heat control | Four main burners plus side burner, but owner reports include uneven heating | Demonstrated burner consistency, controllable low settings and a reliable ignition system |
| Weather protection | Cabinet and hood require cover, drying and inspection for corrosion | Sound firebox materials, effective cover options and easy access for cleaning |
| Total cost | Used purchase price plus possible plates, burners, hose, regulator, cover and service | Purchase price plus realistic maintenance and replacement-part costs over several years |
Matador’s current four-burner range is shown on its official four-burner page. Those products are not the Conquest 0096773, so compare their model-specific specifications and warranty terms rather than assuming that parts interchange.
What is the final buying recommendation?
Buy a Conquest 0096773 only when all of the following are true: the price reflects a discontinued appliance, the firebox and burner supports are structurally sound, every burner and the ignition work, the gas hose and regulator are safe or budgeted for replacement, and support confirms a path to the parts you may need. Do not buy one sight unseen because the cabinet looks clean or because the original list price was attractive.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you want predictable ownership, prioritize a current model with documented parts support over this discontinued design. If you already own the Conquest, proactive drying, cast-iron care, cover use and early replacement of damaged gas components are more valuable than trying to restore a heavily corroded firebox.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell whether a listing is really I/N 0096773?
Ask for a clear photograph of the rating label and compare the I/N with 0096773. The internal code BUN-430-410-AA-S004.19 and APN 9333417020103 are additional identifiers; a generic “Matador four burner” description is not enough.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can this barbecue be converted to natural gas?
The published specification identifies ULPG at 2.75 kPa, and the safety documentation does not establish a user conversion procedure. Do not fit different jets or a regulator yourself; obtain written manufacturer guidance and licensed gas advice before considering any fuel change.
Is the five-year warranty still valid on a second-hand unit?
CHOICE lists a five-year warranty for the model, but the available record does not state whether coverage transfers, when the original term started, or what proof is required. Ask for the original receipt and obtain the warranty position in writing before assigning value to it.
What is a fair used price for a Conquest 0096773?
There is no reliable current price benchmark in the available records. Base your offer on demonstrated operation, structural condition, included accessories and the cost of any plates, burners, regulator, hose or professional service you will need—not on the historical $699 listing.
Can surface rust on the cast iron be repaired?
Light surface rust can often be removed, dried and re-seasoned if the metal remains thick and stable. Deep pitting, cracks, perforation or distorted supports are replacement issues; confirm that a correctly fitting part exists before buying a damaged unit.
