The Makita DUR193SF is a compact 18V LXT nylon-line trimmer for lawn edges, borders and light grass maintenance. It combines a 260 mm cutting width, 7,800 rpm no-load speed, telescoping shaft, loop handle and a head that can pivot for awkward angles or rotate for edging. The kit is potentially convenient, but “DUR193SF” does not guarantee identical contents worldwide: official regional listings show both 3.0Ah and 4.0Ah battery bundles.
That makes the DUR193SF a sensible choice when you want a small LXT trimmer with a battery and charger included, provided you verify the exact local package. Its advertised 45-minute figure is a maximum measured at no load with a BL1830B battery, not a promise of 45 minutes of cutting in real grass.

What is the Makita DUR193SF?
The DUR193SF is an 18V LXT cordless grass trimmer built around a nylon cutting head. Makita describes the tool with a loop handle and telescoping shaft, so it is intended for trimming around lawn perimeters, beds, paths and other places where a mower cannot reach. Makita Singapore lists a 260 mm (10-1/4-inch) cutting width.
The model name matters when shopping. The SF designation identifies a kit configuration, while the closely related DUR193Z is the bare-tool version in Makita Singapore’s listing. A bare tool can be the better purchase for an existing LXT owner, but it does not include the battery and charger shown in an SF bundle.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Makita’s regional pages also warn that standard equipment, photographs, parts and accessories can change without notice. Treat the model number as the starting point, then read the local listing for the actual battery, charger and included accessories.
What are the Makita DUR193SF’s published specifications?
The figures below come from Makita’s 2022 brochure and regional product information. They are manufacturer specifications rather than independent test measurements.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Specification | Published value | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Power platform | 18V LXT | Battery-powered system; battery configuration depends on the kit listing |
| Cutting width | 260 mm (10-1/4 in) | Nylon-head width stated by Makita |
| No-load speed | 7,800 rpm | Speed with the head unloaded; not a cutting-speed measurement in grass |
| Maximum stated runtime | Up to 45 minutes | Makita’s maximum with a BL1830B battery at no load |
| Sound pressure | 73.2 dB(A) | Manufacturer-published value |
| Sound power | 83.1 dB(A) | Manufacturer-published value |
| Vibration | 2.5 / 2.5 m/s² or less | Left- and right-grip figures in the brochure |
| Net weight | 2.3–2.6 kg (5.1–5.7 lb) | Range varies with configuration |
| Line | 1.65 mm four-leaf nylon cord | Use the specified format and verify local replacement compatibility |
The specifications describe a light-duty trimmer rather than a brush cutter. The 260 mm head covers a useful strip in one pass, while the relatively small nylon line is intended for grass and edging work. The published weight range is the tool’s net weight across configurations; the battery you install changes what you actually carry.
What is included in a DUR193SF kit?
There is no single worldwide box specification for the SF kit. Makita Latin America and Singapore list a DC18SD charger and one BL1830B 3.0Ah battery. Makita Canada’s regional page instead describes a BL1840B 4.0Ah battery. Those are genuine regional examples, not interchangeable promises.
| Regional listing example | Battery shown | Charger shown | Other listed equipment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Makita Singapore | BL1830B, 3.0Ah | DC18SD | Nylon cord and shoulder strap/harness listed |
| Makita Latin America | BL1830B, 3.0Ah | DC18SD | Standard equipment may vary; confirm the local listing |
| Makita Canada | BL1840B, 4.0Ah | Not stated in the supplied regional description | Confirm the seller’s complete box contents |
| DUR193Z bare tool example | Not included | Not included | Tool-only configuration |
Before paying, check four items on the retailer or distributor page: the battery model and capacity, the charger model, whether a shoulder strap is present, and whether the listing is actually for DUR193SF rather than DUR193Z. A photograph of a kit is not enough if the seller says equipment may vary.
How long does the DUR193 run on a 3.0Ah battery?
Makita publishes “up to 45 min. of run time on a single charge under no load using BL1830B.” In practical terms, that is a laboratory-style maximum with the cutting head spinning freely. Cutting dense or wet grass, repeatedly starting and stopping, pressing the line into vegetation, or using the tool for edging can all reduce operating time.
The available material does not establish an independent cutting-runtime test, so it would be misleading to convert the no-load maximum into a guaranteed yard-work duration. Use the figure to compare battery capacity and plan a job, not to promise that one charge will trim a particular lawn.

A 4.0Ah bundle carries more stored capacity than a 3.0Ah bundle, but the kit’s exact battery and the condition of the grass determine the outcome. Existing LXT owners can also rotate charged batteries rather than waiting for one pack to recharge.
How do you set up and use the DUR193SF?
Setup is straightforward, but adjusting the tool before inserting the battery makes the first use safer and more comfortable.
- Confirm the kit and inspect the tool. Check that the shaft, loop handle, cutting head, guard, line and battery match the local listing. Do not operate the trimmer if a guard or handle component is missing or damaged.
- Fit the loop handle and set the shaft. Use the telescoping adjustment to place the handle and shaft at a comfortable working height. The goal is to keep the cutting head near the ground without bending your back or locking your elbows.
- Install the battery last. With the switch off and the head clear of people and objects, slide in a charged compatible 18V LXT battery until it locks. Keep fingers away from the trigger while handling the pack.
- Choose the head angle. The head pivots into five positions according to Makita Singapore’s description. Select the position that keeps the line parallel to the surface you are trimming; awkward angles are a reason to stop and readjust rather than twist your wrists.
- Start with a light sweep. Let the nylon line do the work. Move the head in a controlled arc and avoid forcing it into thick growth, fencing or hard edging.
- Stop before clearing a jam. Release the control, remove the battery and wait for the head to stop completely before touching the line or removing wrapped vegetation.
Because this is a line trimmer, it is not a substitute for a metal-blade brush cutter. Keep the intended material to grass and light vegetation, and follow the safety instructions supplied with the tool.

Can the DUR193SF be used as an edger?
Yes. Makita Singapore describes a head that rotates 180 degrees for edging, allowing the line to run in a vertical orientation beside a path or border. The rotation is a built-in feature rather than a separate edging attachment.
For a clean edge, set the shaft and handle first, rotate the head with the battery removed, then reinstall the battery and guide the line along the boundary. Keep the head just clear of paving and masonry: striking hard surfaces consumes line quickly and can damage the cutting head.
What line does the Makita DUR193 use?
The documented specification is a 1.65 mm four-leaf nylon cord. Makita’s brochure lists replacement lengths of 15 m, 30 m and 45 m. Confirm the exact replacement product and loading method against the manual and the local listing before ordering; line shape and diameter are part of the cutting-head specification.
Line consumption depends on the surface and technique. Contact with concrete, stone, metal edging and fences wears nylon faster than trimming open grass. If the line repeatedly breaks or fails to feed, stop the tool, remove the battery and inspect for an incorrectly fitted or incompatible cord rather than simply pulling more line through.

A shoulder strap or harness appears as standard equipment in some regional listings. If your box includes one, adjust it so the trimmer hangs naturally and the head remains easy to control. Do not assume the strap is included in every market.
How does charging differ between LXT batteries?
Charger choice changes waiting time. Makita’s brochure lists the following charge-time examples:
| Battery | Charger | Published charge time |
|---|---|---|
| BL1830B | DC18RC | 22 minutes |
| BL1830B | DC18SD | 60 minutes |
The DUR193SF regional examples above pair the 3.0Ah BL1830B with a DC18SD charger, while other markets or sellers may package different equipment. A faster DC18RC charge time is not evidence that the SF kit includes that charger; it is a separate published charger comparison.
Battery compatibility is a major buying factor. If you already own compatible 18V LXT packs and a charger, the DUR193Z bare tool may avoid paying for duplicates. If you do not own the platform, an SF bundle can provide a usable starting set, but only after you confirm the battery capacity and charger in your country.

What is the difference between the DUR193SF and DUR193Z?
The trimmer itself is the key distinction: the DUR193SF is sold as a kit, while DUR193Z is explicitly identified as a bare tool in Makita Singapore’s listing. Performance figures should not be assumed to differ solely because the suffix changes; the practical difference for a buyer is what arrives in the box.
| Buying consideration | DUR193SF | DUR193Z |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | Included in regional examples; 3.0Ah or 4.0Ah depending on market | Not included in the cited bare-tool listing |
| Charger | Included in some regional examples, such as DC18SD | Not included |
| Best fit | New or expanding LXT users who need a complete starting package | Existing LXT users with compatible batteries and a charger |
| What to verify | Exact battery, charger and accessories in the seller’s box | Tool-only status and any locally supplied accessory |
Local price, warranty and stock are not consistent across the markets represented here, so there is no universal value winner. Compare the cost of the complete bundle with the cost of a bare tool plus the batteries and charger you would otherwise need.
Is the DUR193SF powerful enough for your yard?
It is best matched with routine lawn finishing: touching up edges after mowing, trimming around trees and beds, and maintaining narrow areas where a larger machine is inconvenient. The nylon head and 260 mm width favor maneuverability and controlled passes over clearing heavy brush.

Choose it when you need:
- A cordless trimmer that uses the 18V LXT battery system.
- A compact head for borders, paths and confined spaces.
- A telescoping shaft and loop handle that can be adjusted to the operator.
- Integrated head rotation for vertical edging.
- A kit option with a battery and charger, subject to regional contents.
Look for another tool category when you need:
- Metal-blade cutting for woody stems or dense brush.
- A wider commercial-style swath for large areas.
- A published independent runtime or cutting-performance benchmark; none is provided for this model in the available material.
Those boundaries are not defects; they define where a light nylon trimmer is useful. Matching the machine to the material you cut will matter more than the headline rpm figure.

Makita lists a net weight of 2.3–2.6 kg (5.1–5.7 lb), depending on configuration. The battery contributes to what you feel in use, so a bundle with a different-capacity pack may not balance exactly like another regional package.
The brochure’s acoustic figures are 73.2 dB(A) sound pressure and 83.1 dB(A) sound power. These are different measurement quantities, so they should not be treated as two competing loudness ratings or as a guarantee of the sound at a particular property boundary. Hearing protection remains sensible around powered cutting equipment.
Vibration is listed as 2.5 / 2.5 m/s² or less at the left and right grips. Take breaks, keep a relaxed grip and stop if your hands become numb or uncomfortable. The figures are manufacturer data, not a medical exposure recommendation.

- Confirm a charged 18V LXT battery is fully latched.
- Check that the control is released before inserting the battery, then try the normal start sequence.
- Look for grass or line wrapped around the head and clear it only with the battery removed.
If the line breaks frequently
- Verify that the cord is 1.65 mm and the specified four-leaf format.
- Keep the head away from masonry, metal edges and fencing.
- Use a light sweeping motion instead of forcing the line into thick growth.
If the head is uncomfortable to control
- Recheck the telescoping shaft length and loop-handle position.
- Use one of the five pivot positions that keeps the head aligned with the surface.
- If supplied, adjust the shoulder strap so the tool’s weight is supported without restricting movement.
If charging takes longer than expected
- Identify the charger model supplied with your kit; DC18SD and DC18RC have different published times for BL1830B.
- Inspect the battery and charger contacts for contamination and follow the charger’s indicator instructions.
- Do not infer a missing accessory from a product photograph; confirm the kit contents with the seller.
Store the tool with the battery removed and the cutting head protected from damage. Keep replacement line dry and labeled so an incorrect diameter is not loaded by mistake.
What should you verify before buying?
Use this checklist when comparing listings in your market:
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Model suffix: confirm that the listing says DUR193SF if you want a kit, or DUR193Z if you intentionally want the bare tool.
- Battery capacity: look for the exact model, such as BL1830B 3.0Ah or BL1840B 4.0Ah.
- Charger: identify whether the box contains DC18SD, another model or no charger.
- Accessories: check for the shoulder strap/harness, guard and nylon cord rather than relying on an image.
- Regional documentation: verify that the manual, plug and warranty terms apply to your country.
- Replacement line: make sure 1.65 mm four-leaf cord is available locally in a compatible format.
- Condition of use: decide whether your work is ordinary grass trimming or requires a brush cutter.
Price, stock and warranty coverage are local and change over time. Those details should be confirmed at checkout or with an authorized seller instead of inferred from another country’s product page.
Is the Makita DUR193SF worth buying?
The DUR193SF is worth considering when you want a manageable 18V LXT trimmer for lawn finishing and value a kit that may include the battery and charger. Its adjustable shaft, pivoting head and 180-degree edging rotation give it more positioning flexibility than a fixed-head design.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe purchase makes less sense if you already have the necessary LXT batteries and charger, if your work involves heavy brush, or if the seller cannot state exactly which battery and accessories are in the box. The most important decision is therefore not the SF label alone: match the regional bundle to your existing batteries, confirm the line specification, and choose the tool for grass rather than brush-clearing duties.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any 18V battery with the DUR193SF?
Use a compatible Makita 18V LXT battery specified for the tool, not an arbitrary 18V pack from another system. Check the battery model and the trimmer manual, especially when buying a bare tool or replacing the original pack.
Does a 4.0Ah battery make the trimmer more powerful?
Capacity primarily changes how much energy is stored and can extend working time under comparable conditions. It does not turn the nylon-head trimmer into a brush cutter; cutting material and technique remain the limiting factors.
What should I do if my kit has different accessories than a product photo?
Compare the physical contents with the seller’s written specification and your region’s Makita listing. Because standard equipment and photographs can vary, resolve discrepancies with the seller before using or returning the product.
Is the DUR193SF suitable for professional landscaping?
The published specifications identify a compact nylon-line grass trimmer, and no independent commercial-duty endurance test is established here. It may suit light maintenance, but high-volume or heavy-growth work should be evaluated against a tool category designed for that workload.
