If you mean inZOI, the smoothest starting point is the game’s own first-launch graphics selection, followed by Performance upscaling or a lower resolution scale, ray tracing disabled, and selective reductions to shader, background-detail and shadow quality. There is no universal “best” preset: KRAFTON provides four hardware tiers and separates performance-oriented from image-quality-oriented combinations. These labels and menu paths are specific to inZOI, not every open-world life sim.

The workflow below prioritizes stable frame delivery without immediately making every surface look like the Very Low preset. Change one major control at a time, judge the same demanding area at your normal display resolution, and treat any FPS figure from a vendor or published benchmark—not this guide—as hardware- and version-dependent.

At a glance

Name Best for Key spec Platforms Checked
Performance-first Weakest hardware that meets the PC requirements Performance upscaling, ray tracing off, Medium preset (KRAFTON’s March 2025 example) Windows PC Oct 2026
Dynamic-resolution fallback Uneven frame delivery when a fixed resolution scale is too demanding Dynamic resolution enabled; lower resolution scale if needed; ray tracing off Windows PC Oct 2026
Detail-first Systems with GPU headroom that favor sharper output Quality or Off upscaling; ray tracing optional, with higher GPU load Windows PC Oct 2026

The first row is a historical KRAFTON starting example, not a current-version benchmark. The other rows describe the trade-offs documented in KRAFTON’s settings guidance rather than guaranteed frame rates.

How do I make inZOI run smoother?

Use this order: establish the automatic baseline, reduce the work done per frame, then trim expensive scene detail. It prevents you from sacrificing texture and effects quality before addressing the controls that most directly change GPU workload.

  1. Keep the first-launch selection as your baseline. Let inZOI detect your hardware and record which preset and resolution it chooses. If the result is already stable, change only one setting when you want a visual improvement.
  2. Choose an upscaling mode or reduce resolution scale. If DLSS, FSR or XeSS is available, try its Performance mode first for the largest frame-rate headroom. If you prefer a fixed internal resolution, lower the resolution scale instead. Dynamic resolution is an alternative when you want the game to vary internal resolution to protect consistency.
  3. Turn ray tracing off. KRAFTON says disabling ray tracing cuts GPU load from lighting calculations and can raise FPS. This is the clearest smoothness-first change before lowering every other visual setting.
  4. Lower shader, background-detail and shadow quality selectively. KRAFTON specifically identifies these controls as useful when performance remains uneven. Drop one, revisit the same busy scene, and keep the others at the highest level your system can sustain.
  5. Use Very Low or Low only when necessary. These presets improve performance by reducing texture and effect quality. They are a recovery option for systems that still cannot maintain acceptable frame delivery after the targeted changes.

Do not promise yourself a fixed FPS from this sequence. Your graphics card, processor, display resolution, game version and tolerance for image reconstruction all affect the result.

Which inZOI preset should I start with?

Start with the automatically selected preset, then decide whether you want more headroom or more detail. KRAFTON’s four hardware tiers and eight graphics/performance combinations are categories for choosing a direction, not measured performance outcomes.

Performance-first

KRAFTON’s March 2025 recommended-tier performance example paired Performance upscaling with ray tracing off and a Medium preset. That combination is a sensible first manual target when the automatic result feels uneven, but the article is historical guidance rather than an October 2026 benchmark. It also does not guarantee a particular frame rate on every card listed in the same tier.

Balanced

Keep the automatic preset, disable ray tracing, and use Quality upscaling if Performance mode makes edges or fine detail too soft. If heavy scenes still dip, move from Quality to Performance or lower resolution scale before cutting every quality slider.

Detail-first

Quality or Off upscaling preserves more native detail at a higher rendering cost. Ray tracing can remain enabled if you accept additional GPU work and the resulting frame delivery is comfortable. This is a preference profile, not a recommendation for hardware below the official minimum.

DLSS, FSR or XeSS: which should I use for better FPS?

Use whichever of DLSS, FSR or XeSS the game exposes for your hardware, and begin with Performance when smoothness matters more than sharpness. Quality or Off modes retain more detail but leave more pixels for the GPU to render.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Performance mode

Performance upscaling renders fewer internal pixels and reconstructs the display image. It is the most direct upscaling choice when the GPU is the limiting factor. Look for softer fine detail, shimmering or reconstruction artifacts; if those are distracting, move to Quality and compensate by lowering another expensive setting.

Quality mode

Quality upscaling favors a cleaner image while still reducing the internal workload compared with native rendering. It is useful when your baseline is nearly smooth and you want to recover some visual clarity without immediately returning to Off.

Off or native-style rendering

Turning upscaling off favors native detail but removes that source of GPU relief. Keep it for systems with sufficient headroom or for troubleshooting whether reconstruction artifacts are being mistaken for stutter.

Dynamic resolution

Dynamic resolution lets the game adjust internal resolution to protect frame consistency. Treat it as an alternative to a permanently low scale, not a requirement to enable every performance feature simultaneously. If the image visibly changes during busy scenes, a fixed Performance mode may be easier to evaluate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I turn ray tracing off?

Yes, if your immediate goal is smoother play. KRAFTON’s inZOI Team states: “Disabling ray tracing cuts down on GPU load from lighting calculations, raising FPS.” Ray tracing is optional for the smoothness-first path, so disabling it is preferable to lowering all scene detail at once.

Re-enable it only after the rest of the configuration is stable and you have enough GPU headroom for the lighting quality you want. If turning it back on creates uneven delivery, leave it off and spend your available budget on resolution scale or a higher shadow/background setting instead.

What about Fallback Mesh?

KRAFTON documents a Fallback Mesh target that may help on some high-end systems, but also warns that it can cause crashes. That warning makes it an experimental troubleshooting choice, not a safe universal fix. Do not enable it as a routine substitute for turning ray tracing off or lowering resolution.

Why does resolution matter so much?

Resolution determines how many pixels the GPU must shade, combine with effects and present each frame. KRAFTON’s March 2025 explanation uses 4K versus 1080p to illustrate that 4K involves about four times as many rendered pixels; the comparison is a rounded explanation of workload, not a promise that performance will fall by exactly four times.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

At a high-resolution monitor, try Performance upscaling or a reduced resolution scale before abandoning the rest of your visual settings. At 1080p, Quality upscaling may be preferable because aggressive reconstruction can be more obvious on a lower-resolution output. Dynamic resolution can bridge the gap when your scene complexity changes sharply.

Which individual settings should I lower first?

After resolution and ray tracing, use targeted reductions rather than dropping the whole preset. KRAFTON calls out shader, background-detail and shadow quality as practical levers.

Shader quality

Lower shader quality when lighting, materials or effects make busy scenes uneven. The visual change can be more noticeable in reflective or effect-heavy areas, so compare it in the same location rather than in an empty room.

Background detail

Background-detail quality controls how much distant environment information is maintained. Reducing it can create headroom in dense neighborhoods while preserving the character and object quality you notice up close.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Shadow quality

Shadows add work across many visible surfaces. Lowering them is often a better compromise than reducing every texture and effect setting, especially when the scene is filled with buildings, foliage or crowds.

Very Low and Low presets

Use Very Low or Low when the selective approach is not enough. KRAFTON notes that these presets improve performance while reducing texture and effect quality, so expect a broader visual downgrade than changing one of the three targeted controls.

How can I tune settings without chasing an unreliable FPS number?

Use a repeatable observation routine instead of treating a single counter reading as a universal target. The following process is a way to make your own decision; it is not a benchmark performed for this article.

  1. Choose one demanding, repeatable location in your save, such as a dense district or a scene with many characters.
  2. Stand in the same area and keep camera movement, resolution and display mode consistent while comparing one setting change.
  3. Watch for frame-time spikes, hitching during camera turns and delayed texture or map loading, not only the highest number on an FPS counter.
  4. Keep the change only if the smoother delivery is worth its image-quality cost. Otherwise restore it and try the next control.
  5. After several changes, revisit the original automatic preset so you can tell which adjustment actually helped.

This approach matters because the same setting can look acceptable in a quiet interior and fail in a populated outdoor scene. It also avoids presenting a result from one machine as a guarantee for another.

Why is my life sim stuttering even after lowering graphics settings?

Not every hitch is caused by the quality preset. Memory pressure, asset streaming and hardware below the supported baseline can limit what graphics changes accomplish.

Check system memory separately from video memory

KRAFTON’s live Windows requirements list 12 GB of system RAM as minimum and 16 GB as recommended. Those figures are system-memory requirements, not VRAM requirements. If the PC is below the recommendation, closing other memory-heavy applications or upgrading compatible RAM may address pressure that a lower shadow setting cannot.

Use an SSD for loading and streaming

KRAFTON lists SSD storage and connects it with map loading and texture streaming. An SSD can improve those loading and streaming conditions, but no measured average-FPS increase is established by the available guidance. Verify the drive interface, capacity and free space your PC supports before buying storage.

Check the graphics baseline

KRAFTON’s listed minimum examples include an RTX 2060 with 6 GB of VRAM or an RX 5600 XT with 6 GB. Recommended examples include an RTX 3070 with 8 GB or an RX 6800 XT with 16 GB. These are official tier examples, not a comparative GPU test, and they do not mean every card with the same memory amount performs identically.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Be cautious with integrated or low-spec mobile graphics

KRAFTON warns that the game may not run properly on integrated graphics cards or selected low-spec mobile GPUs. If the system falls into that category, reducing every slider may not produce a reliable experience; confirm the hardware class before spending time on fine-grained tuning.

What hardware and storage does the PC version require?

The live Windows requirements page accessed in October 2026 lists these baseline figures. Storage capacity is what KRAFTON lists for the installation; it is not a guarantee that future updates will fit without additional free space.

Requirement Minimum Recommended
System RAM 12 GB 16 GB
Storage 40 GB SSD 60 GB SSD
Graphics example RTX 2060, 6 GB VRAM, or RX 5600 XT, 6 GB VRAM RTX 3070, 8 GB VRAM, or RX 6800 XT, 16 GB VRAM
Platform Windows PC; integrated graphics and some low-spec mobile GPUs may not run properly

These are requirements and examples from KRAFTON, not a ranking of the listed cards. Driver support, processor performance, cooling and the selected display resolution still affect the result.

What should I try if a change makes the game unstable?

Return to the last known-good setting rather than changing several options at once. If you experimented with Fallback Mesh, disable it first because KRAFTON attaches a crash warning to that target. Then restore the automatic preset, confirm the game launches consistently, and reapply only the lower-risk sequence: upscaling or resolution scale, ray tracing off, and selective detail reductions.

Community guides can add ideas such as an FPS cap, frame generation or population-density changes. One player-authored guide was revised for version 0.10.1, but its preferences and hardware are not general evidence. Treat those suggestions as optional experiments and keep them separate from KRAFTON’s official settings guidance.

How should I balance smoothness against image quality?

Think of the settings as three budgets: pixels, lighting and scene detail. Performance upscaling or a lower scale spends fewer pixels; ray tracing off reduces lighting work; shader, background-detail and shadow reductions trim the scene. You can move one budget upward only after the others leave enough headroom.

There is no settings combination that can remove hardware or resolution limits. The useful outcome is a configuration whose compromises match how you play and what your display makes visible.

What should I recheck as the game changes?

KRAFTON’s two detailed settings articles date from March 2025, while the requirements page is live and was accessed in October 2026. Menu names, available upscalers and hardware guidance can change with updates, so confirm the current in-game labels and requirements after a major version change. Do not treat the March 2025 performance example as a freshly benchmarked October 2026 result.

FAQ

Are the 12 GB and 16 GB figures RAM or VRAM?

They are system-memory requirements on KRAFTON’s Windows page. The same page lists graphics-card examples with their own VRAM amounts, so do not substitute the RAM figures for a graphics-memory target.

Does installing the game on a faster SSD guarantee higher FPS?

No. KRAFTON links SSD storage to map loading and texture streaming, but the available guidance does not establish a measured average-FPS gain from changing drives. An SSD addresses storage behavior, while resolution, upscaling, ray tracing and scene detail are the primary graphics controls.

Can I copy these settings to another life sim?

The principles transfer—reduce internal resolution, disable expensive lighting and trim distant detail—but the labels and available technologies may not. DLSS, FSR, XeSS, dynamic resolution and Fallback Mesh are discussed here in the context of inZOI, so use another game’s own documentation for its menu names.

Why does Performance upscaling look soft on my monitor?

Performance mode reconstructs the display image from fewer internal pixels, so fine detail can be less crisp. Move to Quality mode or raise the resolution scale if you have headroom, and lower a different setting such as shadows or background detail if you still need performance.
