Mafia III: Definitive Edition now has native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. Released on October 8, 2026, the upgrade is free for owners of the PS4 or Xbox One editions and raises gameplay to 60 frames per second on both current-generation platforms. Many real-time cinematics also run at 60 FPS, although pre-rendered movies remain at 30 FPS. The patch also targets progression bugs, stability, AI, driving, visuals and interface problems rather than simply unlocking a higher frame rate.
Is Mafia III 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Yes. 2K’s patch notes, reported by Gematsu and Pure Xbox, state that the native current-generation editions support 60 frames-per-second gameplay. That target applies to both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The 60 FPS claim is for gameplay and many real-time cinematics. Pre-rendered movie sequences remain 30 FPS, so the entire game will not present every scene at the same cadence. No published source for this release provides a resolution figure, HDR specification, loading-time measurement or independent platform benchmark.
What does the current-generation patch change?
The October 2026 release is a broad technical and quality update. The published notes describe changes in several areas.

What should returning players expect in practice?
The most visible change is smoother gameplay at 60 FPS, while the patch’s less obvious value is its collection of reliability fixes. Expect occasional 30 FPS transitions when the game switches to pre-rendered movies. Trophy or achievement behavior, mission progression, streaming and interface handling are all areas the update specifically addresses, but the available reports do not attach numerical improvement rates to them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the upgrade add 4K or HDR support?
The launch reports do not specify a resolution mode, HDR support or a graphics preset. Those features should not be assumed from the native PS5 and Xbox Series branding or the 60 FPS target.

Yes, the native current-generation app is a separate edition in the store ecosystem. Selecting the PS5 or Xbox Series listing determines which application is installed; the older release remains distinct.
Are all Mafia III cutscenes 60 FPS now?
No. Real-time cinematics are included in the higher-frame-rate presentation where supported, but pre-rendered movie sequences remain 30 FPS according to the published patch notes.
Is the upgrade included with Mafia: The Omerta Collection?
The 2026 announcement describes that collection as including Mafia III: Definitive Edition. Confirm the exact platform and edition on the current store page before purchasing, because pricing and stock are not established by the announcement.
