A second video and earlier packaging photos made the leak increasingly credible, but neither the units’ source nor their authenticity was definitively established at the time. Apple later confirmed the product on October 30, 2024, separating what the videos suggested from what Apple officially documented.
How did YouTubers get the M4 MacBook Pro before launch?
The first widely reported video came from Russian creator Wylsacom in early October 2024. It showed a finished-looking box and an alleged 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 chip. MacRumors connected the packaging to an earlier photograph that had circulated in a private Facebook sale.

Another Russian channel, Romancev768, posted a separate alleged unit soon afterward. Seeing two apparently matching units made the story more convincing than a single unverified photograph, although contemporary coverage still noted that there was no definitive proof before Apple’s announcement.

- First public unboxing: Wylsacom showed an alleged retail box and computer.
- Second video: Romancev768 presented another alleged M4 MacBook Pro.
- Private listings: Tom’s Hardware later reported that roughly 200 units were allegedly being offered in private social-media groups.
The reported figure of roughly 200 refers to alleged listings, not a confirmed Apple inventory count.

What did the early unboxings appear to reveal?
The footage was presented as showing retail products rather than engineering prototypes. Leak-era coverage focused on the base 14-inch M4 model and screens that appeared to show system information or benchmark results.
- Memory: The leaked unit appeared to have 16GB of unified memory.
- Connectivity: Coverage pointed to additional connectivity on the base model, although the videos did not establish an official specification sheet.
- Software and performance screens: System-information and benchmark displays were shown, but those screens were part of unverified footage rather than independent testing.
- Retail presentation: The box and product styling looked finished, which supported the claim that these were sale-ready units.
Every detail shown before launch remained alleged because reporting did not establish a verified chain of custody or prove that every pictured device was genuine.

Was the leaked M4 MacBook Pro real?
The later product announcement confirmed that Apple was preparing a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M4 chip, so the leak correctly pointed to a real product family and broadly anticipated its launch. That confirmation does not prove that every video, benchmark screen, package or private listing was authentic.

How many M4 MacBook Pro units leaked?
Two units were publicly visible in the Wylsacom and Romancev768 videos. Separately, Tom’s Hardware reported that roughly 200 M4 MacBook Pro units were allegedly offered through private social-media groups. Those are different scales of evidence: two public videos can be examined directly, while the larger number describes reported listings and was not verified as Apple inventory.

What remains unknown about the source of the machines?
The reporting does not identify a confirmed supplier, reseller, employee or logistics partner. It also does not prove that every private listing was genuine or document an Apple-confirmed internal investigation. Claims assigning responsibility to a particular person or company would therefore go beyond the established record.
What Apple officially launched
Apple’s October 30, 2024 release described the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 as starting with 16GB of unified memory, using a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, supporting up to 32GB of unified memory, and offering up to 24 hours of battery life. The model has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, starts at $1,599 in the United States, and became available in stores and through Apple Authorized Resellers on November 8, 2024.

Apple senior vice president of Hardware Engineering John Ternus characterized the launch this way: “With the powerful M4 family of chips, and packed with pro features like Thunderbolt 5, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, an all-new nano-texture display option, and Apple Intelligence, the new MacBook Pro continues to be, by far, the world’s best pro laptop.” That is Apple’s marketing claim, not an independent verdict; the quoted Thunderbolt 5 reference applies to the broader new MacBook Pro family, while Apple’s base 14-inch M4 specification lists three Thunderbolt 4 ports.
What the leak ultimately proved
The videos were an unusually early look at a product that Apple announced weeks later. Corroboration increased confidence that the footage related to a genuine upcoming MacBook Pro, and Apple’s launch confirmed the central product identity. The leak did not, however, establish how the machines left Apple’s supply chain, whether all reported listings were real, or whether every on-screen specification represented the final retail configuration.
