Apple announced the iPhone 16e on February 18, 2025, delivering much of the hardware predicted in the leak under a different name. The leak was broadly right about the display, biometrics, connector, processor, AI capability and main camera, but its product name, price expectations and several precise hardware details were not confirmed.
Did Apple release the iPhone SE 4?
No. Apple’s affordable model is called iPhone 16e, not iPhone SE 4. Apple announced it on February 18, 2025, opened preorders on February 21 and made it available on February 28.
“iPhone SE 4” remains useful as a search term for the phone described by earlier leaks, but it is not the retail name you should use when checking prices, accessories, carrier listings or support information.

What the released phone confirms about the leak
A larger OLED-based design
The predicted move away from the smaller SE format was directionally correct. The iPhone 16e uses a 6.1-inch OLED panel, giving it the screen size and display technology associated with Apple’s modern mainstream iPhones rather than the older SE design.

Face ID and USB-C
The leak correctly anticipated both Face ID and USB-C. Face ID is provided by the TrueDepth camera system, while USB-C replaces the older Lightning connector expected from previous SE generations.
A18 performance and Apple Intelligence
The A18 prediction also landed. Apple says the chip’s six-core CPU is up to 80 percent faster than the A13 Bionic in iPhone 11. Its 16-core Neural Engine is described as running machine-learning models up to six times faster than the A13 Bionic, and the phone supports Apple Intelligence.

Apple’s first-party modem
The report’s description of an Apple-designed 5G modem corresponds to Apple’s C1 cellular modem in the shipping phone. The name changed, but the central prediction—that the affordable iPhone would use Apple’s own modem technology—was accurate.
A 48MP camera with more than a standard single-lens setup
The expected 48MP rear camera arrived as Apple’s 48MP Fusion camera. Apple describes an integrated 2x telephoto function, so calling it merely a basic one-camera phone misses an important part of the final configuration.

Which alleged iPhone SE 4 specifications should not be treated as facts?
8GB of RAM
8GB appeared in rumor coverage, not in Apple’s published specification for the iPhone 16e. It should remain labeled unconfirmed rather than presented as a definitive memory capacity.
A 3,279mAh battery
The 3,279mAh figure was another leak-era possibility. Apple did not publish an exact battery capacity in the announcement. Instead, it gives comparative endurance claims: up to six hours longer than iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than every previous iPhone SE generation.

- Accessories will not be original, but will be compatible and fully functional. Product may come in generic Box.
The $499–$549 price range
The frequently repeated U.S. price range was an expectation, not a confirmed specification. Prices can also vary by storage, seller, carrier financing and promotions, so use a current listing rather than an old leak when evaluating value.
Exact chassis and front-panel details
Reports about an iPhone 14-style body, a notch and other front-design specifics belonged to the rumor phase. They should not be used as confirmed details of an “SE 4,” particularly when shopping for a case or screen protector.

How accurate was the iPhone SE 4 leak?
It was substantially right about the phone’s direction and core platform: a larger OLED display, Face ID, USB-C, A18-class performance, Apple Intelligence, an Apple-designed modem and a 48MP camera all carried through to the iPhone 16e. It was not reliable as a final product sheet. The retail name changed, the rumored price was not established, and RAM, battery capacity and several design specifics remained unconfirmed.
Quick Recap
What name and specifications should buyers use now?
- Search for iPhone 16e, not “iPhone SE 4,” when checking availability or support.
- Confirm storage capacity, carrier lock status, seller identity and the current price before purchasing.
- For accessories, choose products explicitly listed as compatible with iPhone 16e. Do not assume an “iPhone SE 4 case” fits unless the manufacturer provides compatibility evidence.
- Use Apple’s published performance and battery comparisons as directional claims, not as a promise of identical results in every network, app or usage pattern.
