To carry supported Call of Duty progress to another platform, link the new platform account to the same Activision account that holds your existing progress. Before launching the game on the new platform, check that account’s Linked Accounts page and complete the destination platform’s sign-in and verification steps. Progress, purchases, COD Points, game access and settings do not all follow the same rules, so verify each separately. Activision’s account guidance and title-specific support pages checked October 30, 2026, do not establish that every Call of Duty game syncs every setting or item.
What do you need before switching platforms?
First identify the Activision account associated with the progress you want to keep. The platform account alone is not the destination for supported cross-progression: Activision says games with cross-progression store progress on the Activision account, not the platform account. A new platform account must be linked to that original Activision account; linking it to a different Activision account will not bring the old account’s progress with it.

How do you link a new platform to the right Activision account?
Sign in to the Activision account that already holds your progress, then link the destination platform account to it before opening the game on the new platform. Activision’s account page lists Xbox, including Game Pass and Microsoft Store, PlayStation, Steam, Blizzard, Nintendo and Ubisoft as linkable providers. That list describes account-linking options; it does not mean every Call of Duty title is available through every provider.
- Sign in to the destination platform account. Use the account you plan to play with, not a different profile on the same service.
- Sign in to the intended Activision account in the same browser. Check that it is the account associated with your existing rank and unlocks.
- Open Linked Accounts. Find the destination provider and choose Link Account next to it.
- Complete Activision’s verification step. Request the emailed verification code, enter it, and continue through the provider’s sign-in flow.
- Confirm the link before launching the game. Check the Linked Accounts page to make sure the destination identity is attached to the original Activision account.
An Activision account permits one linked account per provider. For example, the account cannot use the same provider slot to link two separate accounts from that provider at once. If the destination platform identity is already attached to another Activision account, stop and establish which Activision account contains the progress before making changes.

This distinction matters on both common routes. An Xbox-to-PlayStation move requires linking the PlayStation identity to the Activision account that already holds supported progress; an Xbox-to-PC move requires linking the relevant PC provider identity to that same Activision account. The route does not change the core account rule. A console-family upgrade may feel more continuous, but still confirm which platform profile is being used rather than assuming the game selected the intended one automatically.
What Call of Duty progress and purchases carry over?
What follows depends on the game and on how an item was obtained. Modern Warfare III documents cross-platform stats, rank, weapon and camo progression, earned customization, and Battle Pass progress for linked platforms. Black Ops 6 also documents cross-progression on linked platforms. These examples support checking a title’s own rules—not assuming that every installment shares an identical list.

The table reflects documented examples, not a universal franchise-wide entitlement list. If an item is missing, determine whether it is an earned reward, COD-Point purchase, real-money purchase, or game-access entitlement before treating it as a progress-linking problem.
Think of these as separate checks rather than a single all-or-nothing transfer. A shared rank does not prove that a COD Point balance should be shared, and separate balances do not prove that rank failed to sync. Likewise, a COD-Point-purchased item and an item bought directly with real money can have different portability under Modern Warfare III’s rules. When comparing platforms, note the platform where each balance was purchased or earned and where a real-money item was purchased.

Do settings transfer with Call of Duty progress?
There is no established franchise-wide rule that every sensitivity, keybind, graphics, audio or accessibility setting transfers between platforms. Black Ops Cold War has a documented Cloud Save Settings option under Account & Network, described in Activision’s PC and Xbox guides as keeping settings constant across platforms. That is a title-specific feature, not a universal menu path for newer or other Call of Duty games.
Use a short settings checklist before and after switching:
- Input: Check controller sensitivity, aim and button layout, and keyboard and mouse bindings as relevant to your platform.
- Audio: Recheck output device, volume balance and any accessibility-related audio options.
- Display: Review resolution, display mode and graphics choices rather than assuming platform-specific options match.
- Accessibility: Confirm the options you rely on are still enabled.
- Title-specific cloud options: Look for the exact game’s own documentation and settings menu. The Black Ops Cold War Cloud Save Settings option should not be presented as an instruction for every current title.
Activision’s 2020 Black Ops Cold War PC guide describes more than 200 adjustable settings for that game’s PC version. That figure is specific to that guide and version; it is not a count for present-day Call of Duty games. If the new installation does not restore a setting, re-enter it manually from your notes rather than relying on an undocumented config-file copy procedure.
For a console-to-PC switch, input settings deserve particular attention: controller sensitivity and layout may be relevant if you continue using a controller, while keyboard and mouse bindings are a separate set to review if you change input method. Activision’s Xbox guide names the Xbox Wireless Controller and documents controller input on PC, but a controller is optional and does not move progress or settings. Check compatibility with the destination platform before choosing any accessory.
How do you verify progress after linking?
Launch the supported title using the destination identity you linked, then compare a few identifiable items rather than relying on one screen or one balance. This helps separate an account-link problem from an item that is platform-bound or governed by that game’s own rules.
- Check the in-game identity. Confirm that the game is using the destination platform account you just linked.
- Compare progression. Check rank and a representative weapon, camo or other earned unlock against what you had on the old platform.
- Inspect monetized content separately. Check Battle Pass access and unlocked rewards, COD Point balances, COD-Point purchases and real-money purchases as distinct categories.
- Recheck settings. Look for a settings-sync option documented for that exact title, then inspect input and display choices in the game.
- Confirm access to the game itself. If the game does not launch or is not available in the destination library, investigate game access separately from Activision progression.
If you are moving between platforms but continuing in the same title, compare like with like: open the same game, not a different installment, and check the same category of progress. A title-specific cross-progression statement does not automatically cover another game in the series. Why is your progress missing after a platform switch?
The first thing to check is whether the destination platform identity is linked to the original Activision account—the one that holds the progress. A platform account linked to a different Activision account will not display the old account’s progress merely because it is the same console family, storefront or player.
Check the Activision account before unlinking anything
Return to Linked Accounts and verify which Activision account is attached to the destination identity. If it is the wrong one, Activision’s account guidance says progress and owned content are not lost merely because a platform account was linked elsewhere; relinking to the original account restores access. Identify the correct account first and follow the account page’s current process rather than unlinking repeatedly to experiment.

Activision’s account-management guidance says an individual platform account may be unlinked once every 12 months. That is an account-policy interval, not a transfer waiting period. Enforcement or suspicious activity can also restrict unlinking, so a failed unlink attempt is not evidence that game progress has been erased.
Separate account issues from platform-bound items
If rank and earned unlocks appear but a purchase does not, check how that purchase was obtained and which platform it belongs to. Modern Warfare III’s documented rules distinguish COD-Point balances, COD-Point-purchased content and real-money purchases; a missing platform-bound purchase does not by itself show that cross-progression failed.
If the link looks correct and the expected rank or unlocks are still absent, avoid making repeated account changes just to test possibilities. Recheck the in-game platform identity and the title-specific cross-progression rules, then use Activision’s account support process if the account association remains unclear. The 12-month unlink interval makes casual trial-and-error especially risky. Does cross-progression mean crossplay settings or game access also transfer?
No. Progression, the ability to play with users on other platforms, and the right to access a game on a storefront are separate matters. Black Ops 6 support documentation shows that crossplay controls can depend on platform: it distinguishes console controls from Xbox PC app controls and says crossplay cannot be disabled on Steam or Battle.net.

That is a reason to revisit preferences after switching, not proof that a particular setting will carry over. Check the support guidance and in-game menus for the exact title and destination platform. Likewise, Activision’s progression guidance does not promise that a paid title license transfers; confirm access to the specific game and edition on the destination platform without assuming either that a second purchase is always required or that the original license automatically carries over.
Provider names can also be misleading if treated as a catalog.
