LightCraft Online is the better fit for developing RAW files and making hands-on photo adjustments in a browser; PhotoCraft is aimed at changing images by describing what you want AI to do. LightCraft’s editor is free to use without an account, while its AI features are optional and use either your own provider key or prepaid credits. PhotoCraft’s landing page lists paid plans starting at $9. The choice comes down to your editing process, how images are handled, and whether browser-library storage is suitable for your files—not a proven difference in output quality or speed.
What is the difference between LightCraft and PhotoCraft?
LightCraft Online is a browser-based photo editor and RAW developer built around importing, adjusting, organizing, and exporting photographs. PhotoCraft is a cloud-processed AI editor where you describe a change and the image model generates an edit. One is oriented toward a photographer’s editing workflow; the other toward prompt-led image transformations.

That difference matters more than the word “AI.” LightCraft’s core manual editing is local, with optional AI features alongside conventional develop controls and masks. PhotoCraft’s advertised workflow centers on generative tasks such as removing a background, expanding an image, or upscaling it. Neither product is established as universally faster or better: the available product pages and one reviewer’s experience do not amount to a controlled head-to-head test.
| Decision | LightCraft Online | PhotoCraft |
|---|---|---|
| Best-supported workflow | RAW and everyday photo development, manual adjustments, library organization, and export | Prompt-based edits and generative image tasks |
| How edits are made | Non-destructive develop controls and masks; optional AI can suggest slider values or create a retouched copy | Describe a change in the browser and let the image model generate an edit |
| Price positioning | Editor is free; optional AI can use a provider key or prepaid credits | Paid plans advertised from $9 |
| Image processing | Manual editing is on-device; AI requests send previews and related inputs through the selected connection | Landing page says images are processed in the cloud |
| Library storage | Persistent browser library is labeled experimental | No equivalent archival-library promise is established on the landing page |
How the two workflows differ in practice
With LightCraft, a typical session starts by importing camera files, selecting a photograph, and working through develop controls. You can make a non-destructive adjustment, revisit it, apply masks, and export a finished copy. The source RAW remains the basis for the edit. If you want assistance, its AI can suggest slider values for a stated goal such as improving exposure, or create a retouched copy. You remain responsible for accepting, rejecting, or refining those changes.

PhotoCraft starts with an instruction. You upload an image and describe the result, such as removing a plain background, extending the canvas around a product, or enlarging a small image. The service generates a new result rather than simply exposing a conventional set of sliders. That can be quicker for a one-off transformation, but it also means the prompt, source image, and generated output become part of a cloud workflow. For repeatable commercial work, save the exact prompt and inspect edges, text, reflections, and small details rather than assuming the first result is production-ready.
Is LightCraft Online free, and what does its AI cost?
Yes. LightCraft says its browser editor can import, develop, and export photos without an account; using its manual editing tools does not require buying AI credits. AI is a separate option, so a reader who only wants to adjust photographs can use the editor without adopting a prompt-based AI workflow.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor AI requests, the pricing page describes two routes: connect your own provider key, with the provider billing that usage, or use prepaid LightCraft credits that are charged per request. The AI page states that new accounts receive 10 free credits and that credit packs start at $9.90. These are page-stated offers and prices, not a guarantee of what a reader will see later; check the live pages before relying on them. Some displayed prices load dynamically, so a per-request rate cannot be established from the published information summarized here.
PhotoCraft’s landing page advertises paid plans starting at $9. The available page information does not establish the full tier list, billing period, included usage, refunds, or whether a free trial is available. Treat the starting price as a starting point, not the total cost of a particular amount of editing.
How to compare the real cost
- Estimate the number of images you will process in a month.
- Separate ordinary manual edits from AI requests. LightCraft’s manual editor can remain free, while AI requests consume either your provider account or credits.
- For PhotoCraft, identify whether your intended task is a single edit, a repeated batch, or a high-resolution upscale, then check which current plan includes that usage.
- Include the cost of keeping originals and backups. A free editor does not remove the need for storage.
Do not compare the $9 PhotoCraft starting price directly with LightCraft’s $9.90 credit-pack figure as if they were equivalent subscriptions. They represent different billing models, and the published pages do not provide enough detail to calculate a fair per-image comparison.
What can each editor actually do?
LightCraft: develop photographs and keep manual control
LightCraft is suited to opening camera files, making adjustments yourself, and exporting a finished image. It offers non-destructive develop controls and masks. Its optional AI can suggest slider values for an auto-develop goal or produce a retouched copy; the manual editor remains useful without invoking AI. This makes it the more natural choice when you want to refine exposure, color, or other develop settings rather than ask a model to invent or alter image content.
A practical LightCraft sequence is to import a representative RAW, make a basic exposure and color pass, add a mask where a local correction is needed, and export a JPEG or another supported output. Keep the original RAW outside the browser library. If you use Auto develop, review every suggested slider: an automated recommendation may help establish a starting point, but it is not a guarantee that skin tones, highlights, or shadows match your intent.

PhotoCraft: ask for a generated change
PhotoCraft advertises prompt edits, background removal, image expansion, batch edits, and product-photo transformations. Its landing page also lists 2x or 4x upscaling. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independently verified output-quality or performance results. They may suit a task where describing the desired change is more convenient than working through conventional editing controls.
Start prompts with the subject and the exact operation: “remove the background and preserve the product edges” is more actionable than “make this better.” For an expansion, specify which side should receive additional space and what visual context should continue. For a product image, check that labels, logos, and fine geometry have not been altered. Generative tools can produce plausible pixels that are still unsuitable for factual, legal, or brand-critical use.
PhotoCraft says it can process batch edits “up to 10,000 in a run.” That is a vendor-stated maximum, not an independently tested limit, and the landing page information available here does not specify the plan or conditions required to reach it. If a large batch is central to your workflow, confirm current usage limits, file-size restrictions, queue behavior, and plan details before committing.

LightCraft’s browser page lists common camera RAW formats including DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, and RAF, as well as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and WebP. It says HEIC is not included and that camera support varies, so a file extension alone does not guarantee that every camera’s RAW variant will import correctly.
If a particular camera file matters, test one of your own files before moving a full shoot into the editor. Test an unedited RAW, a JPEG export, and any unusually large file you expect to use. Check whether the preview loads, whether metadata appears as expected, and whether export preserves the dimensions and color appearance you need. A successful import of one model does not prove that another camera using the same broad RAW family will behave identically.
The project’s README also describes native macOS, Windows, and Linux builds, in addition to the browser build. Those desktop applications are project builds, not the same thing as the independently hosted LightCraft Online browser version; the README describes the project as dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0. Do not assume that installing a native build gives you the same hosted storage, account, or AI connection behavior as LightCraft Online.
Are my photos private when I use these editors?
The key distinction is whether you are making a manual edit or sending an image to an AI service. LightCraft says manual editing happens on your device, but AI features send image data and request details outside the browser. PhotoCraft says its images are processed in the cloud; the available landing-page information does not give comparable detail about retention or provider transfers.

What LightCraft sends for its AI features
For AI Auto develop, LightCraft says it exports the selected image as a JPEG with a long side of up to 1,024 pixels, along with current slider values and the goal you entered. Retouch sends the selected image at up to 2,048 pixels on the long side. The AI exports omit GPS location, and the original RAW file does not leave the browser in the described AI-panel workflow: a JPEG preview is sent instead.
The route depends on your AI setup. With a personal provider key, requests go directly to the selected provider. With LightCraft credits, requests pass through Craft Apps, which says it does not retain request content after answering. That distinction can matter for client or sensitive images: “local editing” describes the manual workflow, not every optional AI request.
What to check before uploading to PhotoCraft
PhotoCraft’s landing page states that processing happens in the cloud, but the information available here does not establish detailed retention periods or which providers may receive the images. For confidential work, review the current privacy policy and terms for the specific workflow before uploading. Check whether your client contract permits cloud processing, whether outputs may be used for model improvement, how deletion works, and whether account administrators can remove uploaded files. If cloud transfer is not acceptable, do not assume that a browser-based editor processes files locally.
Will my LightCraft library be there next time?
LightCraft warns that persistent browser storage is experimental. Browser data can be cleared, so the online library should not be treated as the only copy of important work. Keep original files elsewhere and make a separate library backup; the product also advises using one editor tab at a time.
This limitation is different from export. You can export developed photos, but that does not turn experimental browser storage into dependable long-term archival storage. Maintain your own source files and backups independently of the editor. Before clearing browser data, changing profiles, reinstalling the browser, or using a privacy utility, export anything you need and verify that the backup opens. The official guidance is direct: “Browser storage is experimental: keep originals and library backups elsewhere.”
A portable external SSD is a sensible optional backup destination for originals and library exports. The appropriate capacity depends on your camera files and shooting volume, so choose based on an estimate of annual storage rather than a generic recommendation. PhotoCraft’s landing page does not establish a comparable promise for an archival photo library, so do not choose it on the assumption that it will store a reusable collection for you.
Which browsers and devices work best?
LightCraft recommends a current desktop browser with WebGL2 and says Chrome is preferable. Its page says Safari and Firefox testing is still in progress; that is a qualification about the project’s testing status, not proof that either browser cannot run it. A mouse, keyboard, and larger screen are recommended for the editor, making a desktop or laptop the safer starting point than a phone-sized screen.

- Capacity Display Variance: 250GB external ssd often appears as around 232GB on Windows. MacOS can show full 250 GB capacity. This is binary calculation difference and doesn’t affect SSD hard drive actual physical storage

WebGL2 support is only a baseline. Available memory, browser extensions, image dimensions, and the number of open editor tabs can affect practical behavior. Close unnecessary tabs, avoid running multiple LightCraft editor tabs at once, and test with a representative large file. If an organization locks down browser storage or routinely clears site data, the experimental library is a poor sole workspace.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For either editor, browser access does not by itself establish support for every device, image size, camera file, or workflow. LightCraft gives the compatibility guidance above; the PhotoCraft landing-page information summarized here does not specify a comparable list of tested browsers or devices. If your setup is unusual, verify that the product works with your actual files and browser before relying on it for a deadline.
What do hands-on reviews establish about quality and reliability?
A Creative Bloq reviewer published observations on October 13, 2026, after trying both products on a Windows PC with Canon EOS R5 files. The reviewer reported early-alpha limitations in their tested LightCraft workflows, including RAW import and masking concerns, and PhotoCraft limitations involving selection, fill, and filters. Those observations are tied to one reviewer’s setup and product versions; they are useful as a reminder to test your own workflow, not a definitive current assessment of either product.
The official product pages establish what each company advertises, but they do not provide controlled comparative measurements for speed, output quality, or reliability across devices. A fair personal test would use representative files and tasks—such as a RAW development session for LightCraft or a specific background-removal job for PhotoCraft—rather than infer a winner from feature lists.
A practical test before you commit
- Choose three files: one camera RAW, one JPEG with a clear subject, and one image containing private or client information that you will not upload until you understand the privacy terms.
- In LightCraft, test import, a basic develop adjustment, a mask, export, and a library backup. Close and reopen the browser to see whether the library behaves as expected.
- In PhotoCraft, test the exact transformation you need, such as background removal or 2x upscaling. Inspect fine edges, text, transparency, and dimensions.
- Record the time, number of requests, and any plan or credit consumption. Do not treat one successful file as proof that a full shoot or 10,000-image batch will behave the same way.
- Keep the exported results and the original files in your own storage before deciding whether either service can support a real deadline.
Which editor should you choose for your workflow?
Choose LightCraft Online if…
- You want a free browser editor for RAW development and everyday photo adjustments.
- You prefer direct control through develop tools and masks, with AI available only when useful.
- You are comfortable managing your own originals and backup instead of relying on an experimental browser library.
- You want to decide whether AI requests use your own provider key or prepaid credits, and can check current pricing before use.
- You need to keep manual edits on-device and send only a reduced JPEG preview when using the described AI panel workflow.
- You can work on a current desktop browser with WebGL2, preferably Chrome, using a mouse, keyboard, and larger screen.
Choose PhotoCraft if…
- Your main task is asking AI to transform an image, for example by removing a background or expanding a frame.
- You want advertised generative options such as prompt editing, upscaling, batch work, or product-photo transformations.
- You are willing to use a cloud-processed workflow and to review current privacy terms for images you upload.
- You have checked what the paid plan includes for the volume of work you actually need.
- You can inspect generated files for altered text, edges, logos, and other details that a model may reinterpret.
If neither description clearly fits, try one representative image and task before adopting either tool for a whole project. For a manual RAW workflow, start with a file from the camera you use; for prompt-led editing, test the specific transformation you need. The available evidence supports choosing by workflow and data handling, not by a claim that one produces better images or finishes faster.
Bottom line
LightCraft Online is the more straightforward starting point for free, browser-based RAW development, manual adjustments, and photographer-led organization, provided you maintain independent backups. PhotoCraft is the more targeted option when the job is to describe a generative change, remove a background, expand an image, upscale it, or process a large advertised batch. LightCraft’s optional AI and PhotoCraft’s cloud processing introduce different privacy and cost questions. Test your own files, verify current plan terms, and choose the workflow that matches the work rather than assuming either product is a universal replacement for the other.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can PhotoCraft handle a very large batch of images?
Its landing page advertises batch edits of up to 10,000 images in a run. That is a vendor claim; the page information available here does not establish which plan or conditions apply, so check the current limits before planning a production batch.

Can I use LightCraft without making an account?
LightCraft says its browser editor can import, develop, and export photos without an account. That statement applies to the editor; optional AI use has separate provider-key or credit arrangements.
Does LightCraft have a desktop app as well as the browser editor?
The project README describes native macOS, Windows, and Linux builds in addition to a browser build. LightCraft Online is the hosted browser version, so do not assume the project’s desktop-build details describe the hosted service.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

For Auto develop, it sends a JPEG preview up to 1,024 pixels on the long side, current slider values, and your stated goal. Retouch sends a preview up to 2,048 pixels on the long side. GPS location is omitted, and the original RAW stays in the browser for the described workflow.
Is LightCraft’s browser library a safe backup?
No. LightCraft labels persistent browser storage experimental and warns that browser data can be cleared. Keep originals elsewhere, make a separate library backup, and use one editor tab at a time.
Does LightCraft support HEIC files?
The browser page lists DNG, CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, RAF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and WebP, but says HEIC is not included. Camera support can vary, so test an actual file before importing a full collection.
Are PhotoCraft uploads private?
PhotoCraft says images are processed in the cloud. The landing page information does not establish retention periods or all provider-transfer terms, so review its current privacy policy and terms before uploading confidential or client images.
Can I compare LightCraft’s $9.90 credits with PhotoCraft’s $9 plan?
Not directly. LightCraft’s figure refers to a starting credit-pack price, while PhotoCraft’s figure is a starting paid-plan price. The published information does not provide enough usage and billing detail for an equivalent per-image comparison.
Which editor is better for RAW photography?
LightCraft is the better-supported fit because it is positioned as a RAW developer and lists several common RAW formats. Verify your specific camera file, because the page says support varies and does not include HEIC.
Which editor is better for background removal or image expansion?
PhotoCraft is the more directly aligned option because its landing page advertises background removal and frame expansion through prompt-based editing. Inspect generated edges and confirm the current plan and privacy terms first.
The Bottom Line
Choose LightCraft Online for free, hands-on RAW development with optional AI; choose PhotoCraft for cloud-based prompt edits and generative transformations. Back up LightCraft libraries independently, verify PhotoCraft’s current plan and privacy terms, and test representative files before relying on either tool for important work.
