In LEC roster coverage, “allowed to explore options” normally means a player is still under contract, but the current organization has given permission to speak with other teams about a future season or roster role. The permission opens negotiations; it does not itself end the existing contract, make the player a free agent, waive a buyout, or confirm a new team.
The distinction mattered in reporting on Kadir “Fleshy” Kemiksiz on October 27, 2026. He said he remained under contract with Team Vitality while being allowed to explore 2027 opportunities. Until a separate release, transfer agreement, negotiated buyout, or contract expiry is confirmed, the player’s final destination remains unsettled.

It is practical roster language describing permission to test the market while the player’s current deal remains active. The phrase may appear in a player statement, team report, or offseason story, but it is not proof of one standardized clause used by every LEC organization.
EsportNow reproduced Fleshy’s public wording: “I’m still under contract with Vitality but they have allowed me to explore options!” That sentence contains both parts of the status: the contract continues, and the organization has authorized conversations about alternatives.

Permission can cover contact with teams, agents, or representatives. It may concern a starting position, a substitute role, a move for the next competitive season, or another roster arrangement. The public phrase does not reveal the private limits of that permission.
Why is the distinction important?
A roster article can use “exploring options” before any transaction exists. Treating that wording as a completed move turns an exploratory step into a claim the available information does not support.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Contract status: The player is generally still bound to the current organization.
- Market access: The organization has allowed the player to hear or pursue outside opportunities.
- Move control: A departure may still require the current organization’s approval, a negotiated transfer, a buyout, or a release.
- Outcome: The player could join another team, remain where they are, or wait for the contract to expire.
An offseason report from Sheep Esports described the possibility of an under-contract LEC player talking with other teams while remaining on the existing roster. That is why “talking to teams” and “leaving the team” should be treated as separate events.
What does the phrase not mean?
The wording alone does not establish several conclusions readers often draw from it.
- Not automatically a free agent: Free agency normally requires an expired contract, a confirmed release, or another status that removes the existing contractual obligation.
- Not a confirmed departure: Permission to look does not say that the player has left the organization or will be removed from its roster.
- Not a signed destination: A team may be interested without making an offer, reaching terms, or announcing a signing.
- Not a waived buyout: The phrase says nothing about whether a buyout exists, how much it is, or whether it has been reduced or waived.
- Not disclosure of private terms: Salary continuation, exclusivity, matching rights, deadlines, and termination conditions remain unknown unless a contract or reliable report states them.
For that reason, coverage should avoid “released,” “transferred,” “signed,” or “free agent” unless a separate source confirms the specific status.

How is this status different from other roster labels?
These labels describe different points on the path from a private conversation to a completed roster move. The same player can move from one category to another as agreements are reached.
| Status in coverage | Current contract | May speak with other teams? | Who controls the move? | What is confirmed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Allowed to explore options | Still active, according to the report | Yes, with organizational permission | Usually involves the current organization until a deal or release is completed | Market exploration only |
| Reported talks | May still be active | Conversations are reported | Terms remain under negotiation | Contact or negotiations, not an agreement |
| Agreed transfer | Existing deal is being replaced or assigned under an agreement | Not the key question | Organizations and player complete the required terms | Parties have reportedly reached an agreement |
| Released | Current organization has ended its obligation, if confirmed | Generally unrestricted by that contract | Release terms govern what happens next | Departure from the existing organization |
| Contract expired | Term has ended | Generally unrestricted by that expired deal | Player can negotiate a new contract | No continuing term under the old contract |
| Completed signing | New team has announced or otherwise confirmed the player’s signing | Not applicable to the completed move | New agreement is in place | Destination and transaction are confirmed |
Reports can use different wording, so readers should look for the underlying fact rather than assume that one label includes every later step.
Can an LEC player talk to other teams while under contract?
Yes, if the current organization permits it. The permission is what distinguishes an authorized market search from an unauthorized attempt to disregard an active contract.
- Permission is granted: The organization tells the player, agent, or representative that outside opportunities may be considered.
- Contacts begin: The player can speak with organizations or representatives about roles, timing, compensation, and fit.
- An interested team evaluates the deal: It may need to understand the player’s remaining term and any conditions attached to an early move.
- Organizations negotiate: If the player wants to move before expiry, the current and prospective organizations may need to arrange a transfer, buyout, or release.
- The situation resolves: The player signs elsewhere, stays with the current organization, or waits until the existing contract ends, depending on the final agreements and roster decisions.
Public reporting does not establish the exact mechanics in any individual case. A statement that talks are allowed should therefore be read as authorization to begin this process, not evidence that every later step has occurred.
What could happen after permission is granted?
The player finds another team
The prospective team and the current organization may negotiate the conditions for an early move. The player can join the new roster only after the required contractual and league procedures are completed; permission to explore does not substitute for those agreements.

No acceptable offer appears
The player may remain under contract and continue with the current organization, subject to its roster decisions. An exploratory period can end without a transfer.
The player waits for expiry
If no early release or transfer is agreed, the player may stay until the contract expires and then negotiate under the status created by that expiry. The timing and restrictions depend on the private agreement.
The organization changes its roster plan
A team can make later roster decisions while discussions are ongoing. A report about permission today does not guarantee a particular lineup, role, or destination for the next split or season.
Does “exploring options” reveal a buyout or salary terms?
No. The phrase carries no standard public buyout amount and does not say whether salary continues while the player searches, whether another team must pay compensation, or whether special matching or exclusivity rights apply.
Those details can be established only by the contract, a team or player statement, a league filing, or a reliable report that specifically addresses them. Inferring that a buyout was waived, or that the player is unpaid or fully paid during the search, goes beyond the wording.

How should you read an LEC roster report using this wording?
Use the report’s strongest confirmed verb and keep each stage separate.
- Look for whether the source explicitly says the player is still under contract.
- Identify whether permission to talk is confirmed by the player, team, or a named report.
- Check whether the story says “reported talks,” an “agreement,” a “release,” or a “signing.” These are not interchangeable.
- Do not convert an unnamed possibility into a destination or transaction.
- Treat salary, buyout, deadline, and exclusivity questions as unanswered unless a source addresses them directly.
- Check the date: offseason information can change before the next roster announcement.
For Fleshy, the October 27, 2026 wording supports “under contract and allowed to explore 2027 opportunities.” It does not, by itself, support “free agent,” “released,” “transferred,” or “signed.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the phrase a formal LEC rule?
Not necessarily. In reporting, it functions as a concise description of a roster situation, while the enforceable rights come from the player’s contract and applicable league rules.

Different organizations may use different contract language for the same practical arrangement. A public statement can explain what permission was given without publishing the clauses that define its duration, scope, or consequences.
What evidence confirms that the player actually moved?
The strongest confirmation is a separate announcement or reliable report stating that the player was released, that organizations agreed to a transfer, that the contract expired, or that the new team signed the player. A message saying the player is “exploring options” is earlier evidence in the sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the player still play for the current LEC team while exploring options?
Possibly. Permission to seek another opportunity does not itself remove the player from the existing roster or prohibit selection, so the team’s roster decisions and the contract’s terms still matter. Public reports may not identify whether the player is starting, benched, or inactive during the conversations.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Is there a standard deadline for exploring options?
There is no universal deadline disclosed by the phrase. Any cutoff can come from the contract, a roster-registration period, or a private agreement, and a report should name that timing before readers assume one.
Can an organization cancel permission to explore options?
The public wording does not answer that question. Whether permission can be withdrawn, narrowed, or extended depends on the agreement between the player and organization, so it cannot be inferred without specific contractual or official information.
Does this wording apply only to starting players?
No. The phrase describes permission to consider another opportunity, not a particular competitive role. It can concern a starter, substitute, or another roster position, although the exact role must be confirmed separately.
