League of Legends’ virtual bands are alternate-universe music projects starring versions of the game’s champions as fictional performers. The four major acts are K/DA, True Damage, Pentakill, and HEARTSTEEL. Each has a distinct musical and visual identity, but their band stories take place on an alternate Earth—not in the main Runeterra continuity of the game. Start with “POP/STARS,” “GIANTS,” “Mortal Reminder,” or “PARANOIA” to hear the projects’ different approaches.
What are the League of Legends virtual bands?
They are fictional music acts built around League of Legends champions. In these projects, a champion’s familiar name and visual identity carry over, but the character is recast as a performer in a separate music-world setting. Riot Records describes that setting as an alternate Earth where champions are music artists.

That distinction matters when you encounter a band biography, relationship, or career milestone. It belongs to that act’s fictional setting; it does not automatically describe what the champion has done in Runeterra or in a match. The projects share a broad music universe, but their individual stories are separate from the game’s main continuity.
The four major acts offer different entry points: idol-style pop, a genre-mixing collective, theatrical heavy metal, and a pop-forward ensemble. Their videos and profiles extend the idea beyond songs: champions take on stage personas, work together, and have music-scene stories of their own.

Who is in each League virtual band?
This comparison captures the documented core lineups, representative entry songs, and the premise that distinguishes each act. “Entry song” means a useful starting point, not a ranking of popularity.
| Band | Members | Musical identity | Entry song | Story hook |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K/DA | Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, Kai’Sa | Glossy pop with idol styling | “POP/STARS” | Established stars navigating public success and personal pressure |
| True Damage | Akali, Ekko, Qiyana, Senna, Yasuo | Hip-hop and rap-oriented, genre-blending collaboration | “GIANTS” | Akali brings together artists for a collective project |
| Pentakill | Karthus, Kayle, Mordekaiser, Olaf, Sona, Viego, Yorick | Theatrical heavy metal | “Mortal Reminder” | Fantasy-metal stage personas and an expanding band identity |
| HEARTSTEEL | Aphelios, Ezreal, K’Sante, Kayn, Sett, Yone | Pop- and hip-hop-influenced ensemble music | “PARANOIA” | A newly introduced group pursuing ambition in a fictional music scene |
Lineups and credits can have details beyond a simple list of champion names. Seraphine appears in the broader Riot Records music roster, for example, but is not part of K/DA’s core four-member lineup. HEARTSTEEL’s alternate-universe material also uses Alune alongside Aphelios and Rhaast alongside Kayn. Pentakill’s documented roster spans its releases, including later additions; it is not just a list of the original stage personas.

What makes K/DA different?
K/DA is the project to start with if you want the clearest pop-idol presentation: polished styling, choreography, and the image of a group accustomed to the spotlight. Its fictional performers are already successful, so the story interest is not simply how they form a band. It is the pressure and personal complications that can sit behind public achievement.
“POP/STARS” is the defining song of the group’s debut era. Later K/DA material includes “MORE,” “VILLAIN,” “DRUM GO DUM,” and “I’LL SHOW YOU.” Taken together, those titles give a listener several ways into the project beyond its best-known starting point, while the visual presentation makes the act’s carefully built star image part of its identity.
Akali’s presence in both K/DA and True Damage is a useful reminder that these are creative alternate-universe projects, not a single fixed biography for each champion. The same champion can appear in different music settings; membership in one act does not make the groups a shared real-world band or merge their stories into the game’s main plot.
What is True Damage’s story?
True Damage is framed as an international, genre-blending collective rather than an idol group or fantasy-metal band. Its debut single, “GIANTS,” is associated with Worlds 2019, and its central story hook is the collaboration Akali builds after K/DA’s success.

The Universe profile says Akali recruits Ekko, Senna, Qiyana, and Yasuo after K/DA becomes successful worldwide. Ekko’s own profile gives the project a neighborhood-minded dimension: music is a form of self-expression and a way to uplift the people around him. That motivation makes the group’s collective identity more than a roster of individual performers.
“What is True Damage? Man, True Damage is the future! It’s a collective of the best artists from around the world, coming together for the best collaboration, to make the best hip-hop music. We’re five steps ahead of the game. Everyone else has gotta catch up.”
The quote is Ekko speaking as a fictional member, not an objective statement about the group’s real-world reception. Read it as character voice: brash, confident, and focused on bringing different artists together.
What should I know about Pentakill?
Pentakill gives League’s music universe its most overt fantasy-metal treatment. Its identity leans on amplified instruments, theatrical staging, and rock mythology, turning champions into larger-than-life performers rather than presenting them as ordinary pop stars.

The releases also include album-era work associated with Pentakill and Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter. The roster spans Karthus, Kayle, Mordekaiser, Olaf, Sona, Viego, and Yorick across the band’s documented releases. Because later additions expand beyond the original touring band, treat that list as the documented roster across the project, not as a claim that every member appeared at the same point in its fictional history.
That theatrical approach makes Pentakill distinct from the other projects even when the same champions-and-music concept is at work. Its stage world is built around metal spectacle and fantasy rather than contemporary idol imagery or a collaborative rap identity.

What is HEARTSTEEL’s concept?
HEARTSTEEL is a newer virtual artist group whose story moves champion identities into a fictional real-world music scene. Its pop- and hip-hop-influenced presentation centers on swagger, ensemble chemistry, and personal ambition.
“PARANOIA” is the group’s breakout single, while “Live My Life” is another major release. The lineup consists of Aphelios, Ezreal, K’Sante, Kayn, Sett, and Yone. In the alternate-universe material, Aphelios is accompanied by Alune and Kayn by Rhaast, details that broaden the cast without changing the listed six-member lineup.

The group’s story premise is deliberately different from Pentakill’s mythic stage-world framing: HEARTSTEEL is introduced as a group of virtual artists finding their place in a fictional music business. That makes ambition and group dynamics more central to its identity.
Are the bands canon in League of Legends?
They are canon to their own alternate-universe music settings, not ordinary biographies of the champions in Runeterra. Riot Records explicitly locates the music acts on an alternate Earth, while the Universe pages provide band-specific stories, music videos, and character profiles.
In practice, keep two continuities in mind. A champion’s main-game identity belongs to League’s Runeterra setting; that champion’s performer persona belongs to a music project’s alternate setting. A relationship or career detail in a band story should not be treated as a main-lore event unless the story explicitly places it there.
There can still be connections between music projects within the alternate setting. The clearest example in these band stories is True Damage’s origin: its profile says Akali recruits the other members after K/DA’s worldwide success. That is a relationship between the projects’ music-world stories, not evidence that the bands are one group or that their events happened in Runeterra.

Which song should I hear first?
Choose based on the sound you want, then use the accompanying profiles or videos if you want the fictional story as well. These four tracks make a straightforward first pass across the different projects.
- For polished pop: K/DA’s “POP/STARS,” the group’s defining debut-era song.
- For hip-hop collaboration: True Damage’s “GIANTS,” its debut single associated with Worlds 2019.
- For theatrical metal: Pentakill’s “Mortal Reminder.”
- For a contemporary pop-forward ensemble: HEARTSTEEL’s “PARANOIA.”
If you want to explore beyond those entry points, K/DA also has “MORE,” “VILLAIN,” “DRUM GO DUM,” and “I’LL SHOW YOU”; HEARTSTEEL has “Live My Life”; and Pentakill’s material includes releases associated with Pentakill III: The Lost Chapter. The point of this route is contrast, not a definitive ranking or complete discography.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Are the virtual bands still part of League experiences?
Yes. Riot’s Journey to Stardom event, published October 21, 2026, names K/DA, True Damage, Pentakill, and HEARTSTEEL in its band progression system for ARAM: Mayhem. That is a dated example of the acts appearing in a current League experience; it does not mean every band is active in every game mode or event.
The projects also have a physical merchandise presence. Riot’s store lists K/DA collectibles including FIRESTARTER Ahri and Akali 1/7 scale statues. A separate K/DA Akali Unlocked product page describes a 9.7-inch PVC statue with a detachable mask and blacklight-enabled accents. Product listings and availability can change, so those details identify documented merchandise rather than guaranteeing current stock.
How do the four bands fit together?
Think of them as four different answers to the same creative premise: what if familiar League champions were performers in a music universe? K/DA foregrounds pop-star image and the cost of public success; True Damage emphasizes collaboration and a shared hip-hop identity; Pentakill turns champions into fantasy-metal icons; HEARTSTEEL focuses on a newer ensemble’s ambition and chemistry.
The acts are connected by the alternate-Earth framework and by Riot’s use of champions as recognizable performers. Beyond that, avoid assuming a single timeline, shared membership, or unified band biography. The explicit K/DA-to-True Damage link is part of True Damage’s story; it does not erase the distinct premise each project builds for itself.

For a listener, that means there is no required order. Start with the sound and stage identity that appeal to you, then follow that act’s profiles and videos for its lore. For a player trying to reconcile the stories with champion biographies, the key is simpler: music-universe characterization is an alternate take, not a replacement for Runeterra canon.
