Play something else tonight unless your group specifically wants to test an unreleased stealth game. As of late October 2026, LAG KILLS is not a finished multiplayer product: Steam lists a Q1 2027 release window, has no user reviews or public price, and its current playtest is a single-player build. Join the playtest if the idea of two burglars sneaking through one house against a hearing-sensitive homeowner appeals to you; wait for co-op development if that is the feature you care about.
For a group playing now, choose by format: Phasmophobia for voice-led ghost investigation, Lethal Company for cheap quota panic, R.E.P.O. for physics-based extraction with up to six players, Content Warning for filming disasters, The Outlast Trials for directed two-to-four-player stealth trials, or Dead by Daylight for four-versus-one play and broad cross-play.

Which multiplayer horror game should you play tonight?
Match the game to your group’s size and preferred loop, not to the word “horror.” The following decision tree gives a practical answer while keeping LAG KILLS in its actual state.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Two players who want to whisper, investigate and identify a ghost: choose Phasmophobia. Its voice-recognition system makes what you say part of the investigation.
- Two players who want directed stealth objectives: choose The Outlast Trials. It explicitly supports teams of two, three or four, and mandatory objectives do not require co-op.
- Three or four players looking for the cheapest quota panic: choose Lethal Company. R.E.P.O. is the similar choice if physics-based carrying and a possible sixth seat matter more.
- Four players who want to turn scares into a video: choose Content Warning.
- Five players, mixed PC and console, or someone who wants to play the monster: choose Dead by Daylight. It is the 4-versus-1 option with true cross-play.
- Six or more: use R.E.P.O. (up to six) or look at an eight-player alternative such as Murky Divers; LAG KILLS is not the right group-size assumption.
- The group specifically wants desperate burglars in one house: join the LAG KILLS playtest and wishlist it, but do not treat it as a four-player Friday-night replacement.
What is LAG KILLS right now?
LAG KILLS is an unreleased PC stealth-survival horror game from solo developer Lee Burton’s DERANGED GAMES, published by Zemore Indie Games. Steam’s living store page, accessed October 29, 2026, lists Q1 2027 as the planned release window, features Single-player and Online Co-op, and shows no user reviews. The page has a Playtest join button, but the game is not available for purchase.
Older press material mentioned 2026, and a directory entry displays a December 10, 2025 date. Those are not commercial launch dates. For a buying decision, the current Steam window—Q1 2027—is the one to use.

What do you actually do in LAG KILLS?
The official premise is a home invasion. After a car accident leaves the protagonist struggling with medical bills, the character and an old friend break into a house they believe is empty. The owner is home, angry after a bad gaming session and “out for blood.” You loot valuables, decide what is worth carrying, hide from the owner, and escape before his unpredictable behavior catches you.
The threat is one AI-controlled homeowner with a keen sense of hearing. Noise can expose you, but the sound system can also be used to misdirect him. A cat adds a distinctive risk: Steam warns that you must feed it or it may tattle. TECHMASH reported that an unsatisfied cat can draw the killer toward a hiding place; a trailer also teased stealing the cat and dressing it in tiny hats in the lobby. That is a flavor mechanic, not evidence of a large party mode.
Lee Burton described the idea in Games Press in December 2025: “One night, I sat there playing a ranked game at 3am then I started lagging, got killed and went ‘a little crazy’. The first thought that went through my head was, ‘If someone broke into my house right now, it would be a bad night for them.’” He followed it with, “So I decided to make a game out of that.” and “Just a little more… DERANGED,” The word “lag” is therefore part of the fictional backstory, not a promise that the game diagnoses or fixes network latency.
Is LAG KILLS multiplayer yet?
Not in the way most groups mean multiplayer horror. The store markets surviving “alone or with a friend” and lists Online Co-op, but it does not give a numeric player cap. The May 2026 public playtest had multiplayer disabled and focused on balancing the single-player experience. Output Lag reported on October 26 that the new open playtest was “the last singleplayer build before co-op development begins.” That wording points to co-op as the next development phase, not as a feature you can rely on in the current build.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The October playtest added a fully playable level with new hiding spots, a lobby with a building and placement system, an in-game shop with upgrades and accessories, inventory and item inspection, a UI overhaul, more jumpscares, and a lights-out sequence with new cutscenes. These additions make the playtest a more complete solo preview, but they do not turn it into a finished co-op game.
What PC does LAG KILLS require?
Steam lists Windows 10, an Intel i3-9100F, 8 GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 1070 and 10 GB of storage as minimum requirements. Recommended specifications are Windows 11, an Intel i5-12400F, 16 GB of RAM, an Nvidia RTX 2070 and the same 10 GB of storage. IndieDB lists Unreal Engine 5. The minimum GPU is considerably higher than the requirements commonly associated with Lethal Company or R.E.P.O., so check the specification before assuming a low-end laptop will run the playtest.
How does LAG KILLS differ from the established co-op horror loop?
LAG KILLS is home-invasion stealth against one AI hunter. The other games below ask you to investigate evidence, extract scrap, film footage, complete trials, or outlast a human Killer.

Is Phasmophobia the best choice for two to four players?
Choose it when investigation and voice interaction matter more than carrying loot. Steam describes it as a four-player online co-op psychological horror game. Its equipment loop uses EMF readers, Spirit Boxes, thermometers and night-vision tools across five default difficulties. The store emphasizes, “The Ghosts are listening! Use your actual voice to interact with the Ghosts through Ouija Boards and EVP Sessions using a Spirit Box.”

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Steam’s English-language snapshot was 94% positive from 360,621 reviews, with 87% positive among 2,650 recent English reviews—Steam / Kinetic Games, 2026. A PC Gamer pull-quote on the store calls it “the best ghost game ever made,” which is a quoted opinion, not a universal measurement. The regular US price is $19.99; Steam Scream pricing observed at the time was $13.99 through November 2, 2026.
Phasmophobia is on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with cross-play for the console versions. It remains in Early Access, with the store’s stated full-release plan in the second half of 2026; release timing can change. Pick it for two to four players who enjoy methodical evidence work and who are comfortable speaking aloud.
Why do people choose Lethal Company?
Lethal Company is the inexpensive benchmark for quota-driven chaos. You and up to three friends land on abandoned moons, collect scrap, and try to meet the Company’s quota while creatures and limited information turn routine retrieval into panic. Steam’s own Early Access note says, “The game is playable with up to 4 players.”
The US list price observed was $9.99, and Steam’s English review strip showed 97% positive from 276,800 reviews—Steam / Zeekerss, 2026. It also retains the Steam Awards 2023 Better With Friends Award. GamerEmpire’s all-language snapshot counted 511,540 reviews at 96.9% Overwhelmingly Positive; the different total reflects a different language and review filter, not two different games.
The game is PC-only in the comparison data. Proximity voice is central to the social panic: a warning shouted too late, a teammate lost in a dark corridor, or a radio conversation that stops abruptly is part of the loop. Choose it over LAG KILLS when your group has three or four people and wants a cheap, replayable extraction night now.
When is R.E.P.O. a better pick than Lethal Company?
Pick R.E.P.O. for physics-based carrying, proximity communication and a larger group. Steam describes it as “An online co-op horror game with up to 6 players.” Players use a physics-based grabbing tool to move valuable objects through terrifying environments and extract enough value for their creator.
Steam’s English reviews were 96% positive from 140,637 reviews, while the all-language total was 346,669 Overwhelmingly Positive—Steam / semiwork, 2026. GamerEmpire’s October snapshot recorded 430,388 reviews at 96.0% and a $9.99 US observation. Its sixth seat is the practical differentiator: a five- or six-person group does not need to split up as it would in a four-player game.
R.E.P.O. remains PC-focused in this comparison. Its proximity voice and physics create a more physical, comedic failure mode than the deliberate silence LAG KILLS wants. Choose it if the group wants to lift, drop and accidentally destroy valuables while still dealing with horror.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

What is Content Warning best for?
Content Warning is the choice when the goal is to make a video out of the scare. Up to four players descend into dangerous situations, film encounters, and return with footage for a SpookTube-style channel. The camera objective changes the social rhythm: players are not only trying to survive but also deciding what is worth recording.
GamerEmpire’s October 2026 snapshot listed 164,148 reviews at 93.8% Very Positive and a $7.99 US observation. The game’s earlier free launch generated 6.6 million downloads in 24 hours, more than 700,000 paid copies in under two weeks and 204,000 concurrent players on day one, according to Game Oracle’s secondary 2025 report. The earlier giveaway was not a permanent free-to-play model.
Choose Content Warning for four friends who want improvisation and shareable moments. It is not a substitute for LAG KILLS’s one-house stealth fantasy, but it is a better fit when recording the panic is the point.
Should two or four players buy The Outlast Trials?
Buy it when you want structured objectives and a premium-priced, more intense co-op campaign. The Steam description says, “You’re all prisoners of Murkoff trapped inside their facility. You can choose to complete the trials by yourself or you can tackle them in a team of 2, 3, or 4 players.” It also states that co-op is never forced for mandatory objectives.
The loop is hide, run and complete tasks rather than fight. Steam’s English review snapshot was 93% positive from 44,908 reviews, with 89% positive from 9,248 recent reviews—Steam / Red Barrels, 2026. GamerEmpire listed 122,616 all-language reviews at 92.2% Very Positive and a $39.99 regular US price. During the Steam Scream event, a 70% discount was shown through November 2, with regional currency and final pricing varying by account.
The game supports PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Steam warns about flashing lights, intense violence, gore, graphic sexual content and strong language. Choose it for a committed two-to-four-player group that wants a campaign-like structure and accepts the higher regular cost.
When is Dead by Daylight the right multiplayer horror game?
Choose Dead by Daylight when you want a human opponent, cross-platform play or a long-running live game. Four Survivors repair objectives and evade one player-controlled Killer, so the threat is another person’s decisions rather than an AI homeowner or ghost. That makes it the cleanest answer for groups that want asymmetric competition.
GamerScout identifies PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch versions with true cross-play, frequent free-to-keep events, and an approximate $19.99 entry point. GamerEmpire observed a $7.99 US sale price on October 26, 2026, while its search extract listed $19.99 regular. The same source counted 941,771 reviews at 78.2% Mostly Positive; the official Steam review strip was age-gated in the available data.
Four discounted Survivor copies totaled $31.96 in GamerEmpire’s observation, but that does not buy a fifth Killer copy. Plan the roles and ownership before assuming one purchase covers the whole group. Voice chat helps coordination but is optional, unlike the voice-recognition loop in Phasmophobia.

How much should a group budget?
Late-October 2026 US observations put the inexpensive cluster around $8 to $14 per person; The Outlast Trials is the premium outlier. The following figures were observed October 26, 2026 and are not guarantees of current regional pricing.
| Game | Observed price per copy | Four-copy total | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lethal Company | $9.99 | $39.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; regular US observation |
| R.E.P.O. | $9.99 | $39.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; regular US observation |
| Phasmophobia | $13.99 sale | $55.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; sale observation, regular US price $19.99 |
| Content Warning | $7.99 | $31.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; regular US observation |
| The Outlast Trials | $39.99 regular | $159.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; Steam event discount was separate and region-dependent |
| Dead by Daylight | $7.99 sale | $31.96 | GamerEmpire, 2026; four Survivor copies only |
There is no public LAG KILLS price. Do not infer one from its Unreal Engine 5 requirements or from the prices of other indie horror games. Each player will normally need an eligible copy, subject to a game’s own sharing rules.
Do you need a microphone for these games?
A microphone is functionally important in Phasmophobia, Lethal Company and R.E.P.O.; it is helpful but optional in Dead by Daylight. Phasmophobia listens for actual speech through its voice-recognition systems. Lethal Company and R.E.P.O. use proximity communication to make distance, panic and sudden silence meaningful. A headset with a microphone is therefore a practical accessory for those games, not merely a streaming extra.

The LAG KILLS fantasy reverses that expectation: the owner has keen hearing, so the group’s challenge is to stay quiet and use sound deliberately. The current single-player playtest does not establish how voice will work in future co-op, so do not buy it on the assumption that it will copy Phasmophobia’s voice-recognition design.
Which multiplayer horror game has cross-play?
Dead by Daylight is the clearest cross-platform pick in this comparison. GamerScout lists true cross-play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. Phasmophobia and The Outlast Trials also have console versions with cross-play in the cited roundups, but verify the exact platform pairing and account requirements before purchase. Lethal Company, R.E.P.O. and Content Warning are treated as PC choices here, while LAG KILLS is a PC Steam title in development.
Is LAG KILLS worth waiting for?
Wait if the specific fantasy matters; do not wait if you simply want multiplayer horror. The combination of a single house, desperate burglary, loot-value decisions, a sound-sensitive AI homeowner and a snitch cat is unlike the evidence work of Phasmophobia, the quota loop of Lethal Company, or the player-controlled Killer in Dead by Daylight.
Join the Steam playtest if you want to see the current solo level, new hiding spots, lobby systems, inventory inspection and lights-out sequence. Treat it as a preview with no review record, no announced price and no hands-on quality verdict available from this article. The October build is described as the last single-player update before co-op development, and Steam’s Q1 2027 window is the current official target; neither statement guarantees a date or a final co-op player cap.

How we picked
The ranking uses the factors that determine whether a group can actually play together: availability now versus later, threat type, objective loop, supported group size, price per seat, platform and cross-play, dependence on voice chat, and tone. LAG KILLS is included because it is the subject of the comparison, but its unreleased status prevents a finished-game recommendation. Review percentages and prices are attributed to the named store or roundup source and are snapshots, not independent tests.
FAQ
Can LAG KILLS support more than two players?
Steam’s marketing says you can play alone or “with a friend,” but it does not publish a numeric co-op cap. Until the developer documents the multiplayer build, assume a duo-oriented design rather than a four- or six-player lobby.

Is LAG KILLS free to play?
No commercial price has been announced. The Steam page offers a playtest request, which is separate from a confirmed free-to-play launch model.
Can I play the LAG KILLS playtest online with a friend?
The May 2026 public round had multiplayer disabled, and the October update was described as the last single-player build before co-op development. The safe assumption is that the currently available preview is solo unless the live Steam page explicitly says otherwise.
Which game is best for five friends?
Dead by Daylight accommodates five people as four Survivors and one Killer, while R.E.P.O. supports up to six on the same side. A four-player title such as Phasmophobia, Lethal Company or Content Warning requires someone to sit out or form a second group.
Does “lag” in LAG KILLS refer to internet problems?
No. The title comes from the homeowner’s backstory: developer Lee Burton said the idea began after lagging and losing a ranked game. The game’s challenge is avoiding a furious homeowner, not repairing a player’s network connection.
