Kyvvu’s Agent Security Kernel (ASK) is a runtime control layer that checks what an AI agent is about to do and can allow, warn about, or block the action before it runs. Its central idea is that an agent should not treat tool access as permission to use a tool in every situation: routine, authorized work can proceed automatically, while ambiguous or consequential actions may need clarification or approval first.
That distinction matters as agents move beyond drafting text and begin operating software, handling information, and triggering changes. A mistaken answer can be corrected; a mistaken action may delete data, expose it, or communicate it externally. ASK is Kyvvu’s proposed control point for managing that risk in the agent’s runtime harness.

Why should an AI agent ask before taking action?
An AI agent should ask when it cannot confidently determine that an action is authorized, intended, and proportionate to its consequences. The point is not to interrupt every task. It is to preserve a human decision point where ambiguity, sensitive information, outside communication, financial impact, or irreversibility makes an error costly.
This is a shift in how agent errors matter. A language model can produce incorrect text, but an agent connected to tools can also carry out an operation. Maurits Kaptein, Kyvvu co-founder and CTO and a full professor at TU/e Eindhoven, described that change this way: “Two or three years ago, we were worried about hallucinations because then it was a wrong piece of text. Now a hallucination can be a deleted database, or some weird artefact that you really didn’t want.”

The practical problem is not only whether a model’s next sentence is accurate. It is whether the system should let the action that follows take place. An approval prompt can give a user a chance to clarify an ambiguous instruction, check the target or scope, or stop an action whose consequences exceed what they intended.
What “ask” should mean in practice
Asking can mean a warning or a request for explicit approval, depending on the action and the policy an organization sets. For example, an agent might be permitted to prepare a message autonomously but require confirmation before sending it outside the organization. The specific examples here illustrate the risk-based approach; they are not a claim about a particular Kyvvu configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOverusing approval prompts can make a control ineffective: users may approve them reflexively, or find workarounds that remove useful safeguards. A better policy distinguishes low-risk, reversible steps from operations that change important records, expose data, contact others, or commit money.
What is an agent security kernel?
An agent security kernel is a control point between an agent’s decision to use a capability and the execution of that operation. Kyvvu describes ASK as working in the agent’s harness or loop: it checks the action being attempted and can return an allow, warn, or block outcome.
The harness is the surrounding runtime that connects an agent to tools and carries out its tool calls. A control placed there can evaluate an attempted operation at the point it is about to happen, rather than relying only on rules about what the model may say. In Kyvvu’s description, the unit of concern is the agent’s action and the permissions involved—not a general inspection of all generated content.

How the three outcomes differ
- Allow: The action passes the applicable checks and can proceed.
- Warn: The action raises a concern that calls for attention under the relevant policy. A warning does not, by itself, establish whether a human must approve the operation; that depends on how the control is configured.
- Block: The action is not permitted to proceed through the controlled path.
These outcomes make the kernel a gate on execution, not simply a review of the agent’s final response. The available data’s description does not specify Kyvvu’s full policy language, supported harnesses, logging details, or deployment configuration, so those implementation specifics should not be assumed.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →How can an agent have tool access but still lack authority?
Capability means an agent can technically call a tool; authority means it is permitted to perform a particular operation in a particular context. Those are different questions. Giving an agent access to a database and an email tool does not necessarily mean it should be allowed to combine customer records with an external message.
Kyvvu’s example highlights the risk of permissions considered in isolation. An agent might separately be allowed to read a customer database and send email. When those powers are combined, the agent could potentially move personal information into a message. Kyvvu says an additional personally identifiable information check may be needed in that situation.
This is a form of permission-combination risk: each individual tool grant can look acceptable while a sequence of actions creates a new risk. The security question is therefore not just “Can this agent use email?” It is also “What information can it retrieve, what can it do with that information, and is this particular use authorized?”
A simple way to reason about an action
- Identify the operation. Is the agent reading, changing, deleting, exporting, sending, or purchasing?
- Check the target and scope. Which account, record, recipient, or amount is involved?
- Consider what the agent can combine. Could one permission expose information that another permission can transmit or alter?
- Assess the consequence. Would an error be easy to undo, or could it create lasting harm?
- Choose the control. Allow clearly authorized, lower-risk work; warn or request approval when the policy or intent is uncertain; block actions that are prohibited.
This is a practical decision framework, not a published description of Kyvvu’s internal evaluation algorithm.

Which actions should remain autonomous, and which should trigger a check?
Automation is most useful when the instruction is clear, the operation is authorized, and an error is limited or reversible. A human checkpoint is more valuable when the action affects sensitive data, an external party, money, or a state that is difficult to restore.
| Action characteristics | Reasonable control approach | Illustrative case |
|---|---|---|
| Clear, routine, and reversible | Allow automatically when policy authorizes it | Completing a low-impact internal step within an approved task |
| Ambiguous target or instruction | Ask for clarification before acting | The agent cannot tell which record or recipient the user meant |
| Sensitive information involved | Check the data and destination; require further review if policy calls for it | Personal information could be included in a message or export |
| External communication | Consider a warning or approval step before sending | A draft is ready, but the recipient or content has not been confirmed |
| Financial or hard-to-reverse consequence | Require stronger authorization or block if not permitted | A transaction or deletion would be difficult to undo |
The table is a general risk-policy illustration, not a list of Kyvvu product settings or supported actions. Organizations need to define their own thresholds, including who may approve a high-impact operation and what evidence the approver should see.
How does Kyvvu say ASK evaluates agent actions?
Kyvvu says ASK inspects the actions the agent’s harness takes, rather than inspecting content generally. Kaptein summarized the distinction: “The way we look at it, we inspect the actions the harness takes. We don’t inspect the content. That’s the level that Kyvvu operates on.”
That claim describes the product’s stated control level; it should not be expanded into a claim that ASK reads every prompt or document, understands every business context, or prevents every data leak. The available description establishes action-level control and permission-combination checks, but does not provide a quantified effectiveness rate, incident reduction figure, or comparative benchmark.
Action-level checks can be useful because a policy can focus on what the system is trying to do and which permissions it is using. But the quality of a decision still depends on the action information available to the control, the policy an organization defines, and how the agent’s harness routes operations. The evidence here does not establish how Kyvvu handles every edge case or what integrations are available.

What is known about Kyvvu’s deployment and market position?
A report dated October 12, 2026, described Kyvvu as founded about a year earlier and running in production across regulated enterprises in the Netherlands. It said the company’s main footprint came through integration partners and IT consultants helping larger organizations build their own agents.
Those are time-sensitive descriptions of the company’s reported activity as of that report, not a guarantee of current availability, customer count, or deployment scale. No numeric adoption, market-size, efficacy, or incident statistic is established here. The evidence is descriptive reporting and attributed executive commentary rather than a published quantitative study.
How does ASK fit into the emerging agent-security stack?
The October 12, 2026, report placed Kyvvu alongside a developing set of agent-security efforts, including OWASP’s Agent Control Standard, Microsoft’s Agent Control Specification, and NVIDIA’s Open Agent Safety Platform with OpenShell. This provides ecosystem context: organizations are exploring ways to control agent actions, permissions, and execution.

The mention of these efforts does not establish that Kyvvu is compatible with, certified against, or technically equivalent to them. Nor does it support a performance comparison. Before selecting or combining controls, an organization would need current documentation on the relevant interfaces, policy models, supported runtimes, and assurance claims.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should an organization check before relying on an agent control layer?
A runtime control is only useful if it sits on the paths that matter and applies policies that reflect real authority. Buyers and technical teams should validate the product in their own agent architecture rather than infer coverage from the phrase “security kernel.”

These are evaluation questions, not confirmed ASK features. The available reporting does not specify Kyvvu’s answers to them. They help translate the broader principle—control actions before execution—into concrete deployment checks.
Does asking before acting eliminate the risks of agentic AI?
No. Asking is one control in a broader system, not a guarantee that the agent will behave correctly or that every harmful action will be caught. Kaptein also noted that “There will always be this baseline where it’s just this non-deterministic system that’s driving our code at runtime.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Kyvvu ASK inspect everything an AI agent reads?
Kyvvu describes ASK as checking actions in the agent harness rather than inspecting content generally. The available description does not establish whether particular integrations inspect specific data fields as part of an action check.
Can an organization use ASK without asking a person to approve every action?
Yes, the risk-based approach allows routine, authorized work to remain autonomous while reserving warnings or approval for higher-risk cases. Whether that is possible in a particular deployment depends on the policies and configuration available there.
Is Kyvvu ASK certified to an agent-security standard?
The cited October 2026 report places Kyvvu in the same developing landscape as several agent-security efforts, but it does not establish certification or formal compatibility. Verify any current assurance claim directly in product documentation.
What should a human approval prompt show?
A useful prompt should make the proposed operation, target, relevant data, and consequence clear enough for a person to make a decision. A vague “Allow agent?” prompt may invite routine clicking without meaningfully checking intent.
