To roll back a job-provider integration safely, stop new writes, identify which job records and credentials the connection controls, then disable or remove the integration in a way that preserves the ability to restore it. Do not assume deleting the connection also deletes postings already sent to a provider or removes them from search immediately. The title’s nineteen-minute interval and the identities of the two providers are not established by the public documentation discussed here; they should be treated as incident details only if a change log confirms them.
What does a job-provider API rollback actually undo?
A rollback can mean several different actions: stopping your application from sending new data, disconnecting credentials, reverting adapter or mapping changes, or deleting job postings through an API. Those actions affect different parts of the system. Removing an integration from your application does not necessarily withdraw postings that were already created at the provider, and deleting a posting does not necessarily undo the code or configuration change that created it.

Is it the provider connection, an API credential, an adapter release, a mapping configuration, or each individual job record? This distinction is especially important when someone says a team “deleted two providers.” That phrase could mean deleting two connections, deleting postings sent to those providers, or removing provider support from the product. Each has a different recovery path.
- Connection rollback: stop the application from using a provider, while separately determining what happens to its existing postings.
- Posting withdrawal: change or remove individual postings using the provider’s documented lifecycle operations.
- Code rollback: revert adapter or mapping changes without assuming that external records revert with them.
Keep those work items separate in the change record. A request accepted by one API confirms only what that API documents; it does not establish that every downstream search index, customer-facing page, or other provider has reached the same state.

Can public documentation verify a nineteen-minute reversal?
No. The public documentation cited here describes API behavior and integration requirements, but it does not identify the providers in the incident implied by the title or verify that two connections were removed nineteen minutes after being added. Treat that timeline as an incident claim, not a published technical fact, unless an internal deployment record or audit log confirms it.
A reliable incident timeline should be built from records that identify the relevant environment, provider, action, and time. For example, distinguish when an integration was configured from when it was enabled, when a job was sent, when a delete request was issued, and when the job was observed as unavailable. Those timestamps describe different events. If the record only shows a configuration change and a later removal, it cannot by itself prove when external postings disappeared.
The same caution applies to the reason for a reversal. Duplicate coverage, data quality, latency, cost, or access restrictions are plausible issues to investigate, not facts to assign to a particular incident without evidence. A change review should record the actual trigger and the evidence behind it, rather than filling gaps with a likely-sounding explanation.
How do job-provider APIs handle a posting’s lifecycle?
Provider integrations are better understood as stateful workflows than as a single “publish” call. XING’s E-Recruiting API documentation describes calls to create, update, delete, activate, deactivate, and archive postings. That list shows why a rollback plan needs to account for status transitions as well as creation and deletion.

Before changing providers, map the states your application uses to the operations each provider exposes. A job that is inactive is not necessarily deleted; an archived job is not necessarily equivalent to a deleted one. The exact meanings and permitted transitions depend on the provider’s API contract, so do not treat similarly named states as interchangeable across systems.
Build a state map before changing a connection
For each provider, document the operations and the internal state they are meant to represent. Include what your application does when a posting is created, edited, made active, made inactive, archived, or deleted. If the provider exposes a status endpoint or an equivalent way to read current state, include it in the map; do not assume that an HTTP response to a write request is the only verification available.
Then decide which states require action during rollback. For example, a team may want to stop creating new postings immediately while leaving existing postings active until a controlled withdrawal is completed. Another team may need to deactivate first and delete later. The appropriate sequence depends on the provider’s supported lifecycle and the product’s operational requirements; the sources do not establish one universal sequence.
How quickly does a deleted job disappear from search?
It depends on the system doing the indexing. Google Cloud’s Cloud Talent Solution reference for projects.jobs.delete says a deleted job typically becomes unsearchable within 10 seconds, but can take up to five minutes. That is a specific behavior documented for that Google Cloud service, not a guarantee for every job board or provider.

For that reason, a successful delete request and a verified absence from search should be recorded as separate checkpoints. The request tells you what the API accepted; a later read or search check tells you what the relevant system currently exposes. Use the provider’s own documented verification method and allow for any propagation interval it specifies.
Do not generalize Google Cloud’s timing to an unrelated job provider. The available documentation does not provide a common deletion window across providers. If a provider does not state a visibility interval, record that the timing is not established rather than promising an immediate disappearance.

- Confirm that the request targeted the intended provider and job identifier.
- Capture the response or structured error returned by the API.
- Use the provider’s documented read, status, or search mechanism to check the job after the request.
- Record the time of the request and the time the job was observed as unavailable.
- If the job remains visible, compare elapsed time with the provider’s documented propagation expectations before deciding whether to retry or escalate.
What changes when you switch job providers?
A provider switch is usually an integration change, not just a destination URL change. Greenhouse describes API-based job import as JSON-based and says it requires a middleware platform, a developer to build and maintain the adapter layer, and a mapping schema. The practical implication is that provider-specific data and behavior need a deliberate boundary in your application.
An adapter translates between your internal job representation and the provider’s API. The mapping schema determines how fields in one system correspond to fields in another. If a new provider expects different fields, statuses, or formats, changing the destination without revisiting that translation can produce incomplete or incorrect postings. The available Greenhouse documentation establishes the need for middleware, adapter maintenance, and mapping; it does not specify the exact schema or effort for a particular migration.

Keep provider-specific transformation in an adapter
Write down which fields your application treats as canonical and which transformations belong to a provider adapter. When evaluating a replacement, compare the actual fields and lifecycle behavior against that mapping. Mark fields that require a transformation or a decision, rather than silently mapping a value simply because two fields have similar names.
Keep the old adapter and its configuration available until you have confirmed the replacement’s behavior and have a recovery plan. If a rollout must be reversed, you should know which adapter version was active, which mapping was used, and whether any jobs were created or changed during the transition. This makes it possible to separate a code rollback from external cleanup.
What should a reversible migration plan preserve?
A useful rollback plan preserves more than the last working code version. JobAdder and Jobby.dev documentation support treating OAuth, webhooks, throttling, rate-limit signals, and structured errors as operational concerns during integration work. These are part of the integration surface: a replacement that handles job fields correctly can still be difficult to operate if authentication or event handling is lost during the change.
Before enabling the new provider, identify the credentials and OAuth scopes the connection depends on, how webhook events are received, and what the API communicates when requests are throttled or exceed a rate limit. Preserve the configuration and logs needed to diagnose errors. Do not assume that retries are safe in every case; use the provider’s documented request and error semantics to decide whether an operation can be repeated without creating an unintended duplicate or state change.

Use a rollback sequence with explicit checkpoints
- Record the starting state. Note the active adapter and mapping version, the connected providers, and the status of the postings in scope. Keep a change record that distinguishes configuration changes from external posting operations.
- Check access before committing. Confirm that the replacement provider will grant the required API access and credentials in the intended environment. JobScore states that its API is available to employers on the enterprise plan and approved partners, so availability cannot be assumed solely from the existence of public API documentation.
- Pause or control writes. Decide how the application will avoid sending uncontrolled updates while mappings or credentials are being changed. The specific control may be a feature setting, deployment gate, or another mechanism available in your system; document the actual one used.
- Apply and validate the adapter and mapping. Confirm that the new provider’s expected fields and lifecycle operations match the integration’s documented mapping. Record errors in a way that distinguishes authentication, throttling, validation, and other provider responses where the API provides structured errors.
- Observe events and limits. Verify that the webhook path and OAuth configuration remain intact, and monitor the rate-limit or throttling signals available from the provider. Preserve enough operational evidence to determine whether requests succeeded, failed, or need follow-up.
- Define the reversal action before launch. Specify whether rollback means stopping new writes, restoring the previous adapter, revoking credentials, or withdrawing already-created postings. Name the owner and the verification method for each action.
- Verify external state after cleanup. Check affected postings through the appropriate provider mechanism and record when they are no longer available. Do not mark the rollback complete merely because the application no longer calls the integration.
How should two providers be compared before a migration?
Compare providers on the actual integration requirements, not only on whether each has an API. The documentation available for these examples establishes different kinds of constraints: XING documents multiple posting lifecycle operations; Greenhouse describes middleware, adapter, and mapping requirements; Google Cloud documents a deletion propagation interval for its own search service; and JobScore states an access restriction for its API.
| Evaluation area | What the cited documentation establishes | What to verify for the provider you plan to use |
|---|---|---|
| Posting lifecycle | XING documents create, update, delete, activate, deactivate, and archive calls. | Which operations and status transitions are available, and how each maps to your internal states. |
| Deletion visibility | Google Cloud says Cloud Talent Solution jobs typically become unsearchable within 10 seconds, with a maximum of five minutes. | The provider-specific behavior and how to verify that a posting is no longer visible. |
| Integration work | Greenhouse identifies middleware, a maintained adapter layer, and a mapping schema for API-based job import. | The required transformations, maintenance ownership, and field-by-field mapping. |
| API access | JobScore says API access is for enterprise-plan employers and approved partners. | Whether your organization and intended use qualify for credentials and continued access. |
| Operations | JobAdder and Jobby.dev documentation support monitoring OAuth, webhooks, throttling, rate-limit headers, and machine-readable errors. | Which signals the target API exposes, how they are monitored, and what the recovery procedure is for each failure class. |
This comparison is intentionally not a universal ranking: the sources describe different products and services, and they do not supply comparable latency, reliability, pricing, or rate-limit values. A migration decision should be based on the specific providers’ current contracts and the workload your integration must support.

What are the most common rollback mistakes?
Most avoidable problems come from treating a multi-system change as one reversible switch. A job-matching application, its middleware, the provider API, and a search index can each hold a different view of a posting. A rollback should make those boundaries visible instead of assuming they move together.
- Deleting the connection and assuming the jobs are gone: remove or disable the connection separately from withdrawing postings already sent to the provider.
- Using “delete” as a synonym for every inactive state: distinguish deactivation, archival, and deletion according to the provider’s own lifecycle.
- Declaring success from the write response alone: verify the resulting state through a documented read or search path.
- Reusing mappings without review: compare field meanings and transformations for the replacement rather than relying on names that look similar.
- Ignoring access qualification: verify that the organization can obtain and retain the necessary API access before making the replacement a dependency.
- Retrying blindly: inspect the provider’s response, rate-limit signals, and retry semantics before repeating a request that may have changed external state.
- Losing the audit trail: preserve which credentials, adapter version, mapping, and provider actions were active at each step.
If an integration must be reversed quickly, prioritize containment and clarity: stop unintended new writes, establish which external records exist, and then perform the provider-specific status changes needed to reach the intended state. Speed is useful only if the team can tell which system was changed and what still needs verification.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a successful DELETE request mean the job is erased everywhere?
No single API response establishes that every system has removed the job. A provider may document deletion only for its own records or search behavior, so verify the affected system and any separate downstream indexes independently.
Should I retry a job deletion if the API request times out?
First check the provider’s documented retry and idempotency behavior, then look up the job’s current state if the API supports it. A timeout can leave the outcome uncertain; blindly repeating a state-changing request is not a substitute for checking.
Can a job provider’s public API docs prove that my organization is allowed to use it?
No. Documentation can describe an API without granting access to every employer or integration. JobScore, for example, describes access for enterprise-plan employers and approved partners, so eligibility needs to be confirmed for the intended account.
