Jindal Steel’s Q2FY27 preview called for consolidated revenue of ₹15,628 crore, up 33.7% year over year, while profit after tax (PAT) was expected to be almost flat at ₹643 crore. The results announced on October 23, 2026, were stronger than that setup: net revenue reached ₹16,704 crore and PAT was ₹771 crore. Record sales volume, rather than pricing alone, drove the quarter, although higher coking-coal, power, fuel and ocean-freight costs remained a margin risk.

The estimate and reported columns are not interchangeable: the first reflects the pre-result forecast, while the last reflects figures discussed after the October 23 announcement.
How did the reported quarter compare with the preview?
Both revenue and profit exceeded the preview. Reported net revenue was ₹16,704 crore, ₹1,076 crore above the ₹15,628 crore estimate. PAT was ₹771 crore, ₹128 crore above the ₹643 crore forecast, so the reported quarter was not flat in the way the preview suggested.

Revenue conversion
The company also reported gross revenue of ₹19,448 crore in a GuruFocus summary of the earnings call. Gross and net revenue are different measures, so investors should use net revenue for a like-for-like comparison with the preview and treat gross revenue as a separate disclosure.
Profit conversion
Adjusted EBITDA of ₹2,504 crore was ₹195 crore above the preview estimate. That implies better operating conversion than the forecast, even though input costs prevented a risk-free margin outlook.

Jindal Steel sold a record 2.38 million tonnes in the quarter, according to the company’s earnings call. Management described the result as a record sales performance for the company. The volume number indicates that shipment growth was a central operating engine rather than a story based only on steel prices.

Product and market mix to track
The next read-through is the mix between flat and long products and the share sold into the domestic market. The available results commentary identifies these as key mix questions but does not provide a percentage split for either measure. Investors should therefore avoid assuming that the record tonnage had a particular domestic or product contribution until the company publishes the detailed operating schedule.
Which costs could pressure margins?
Management and analyst commentary pointed to sequential pressure from coking coal, power, fuel and ocean freight. These costs can reduce the amount of each additional tonne that reaches EBITDA, even when shipments are rising.
Slurry-pipeline benefit
A slurry pipeline is expected to lower freight requirements. The size and timing of the saving were not stated in the available disclosures, so it should be treated as a forward-looking margin lever rather than booked Q2 benefit. The useful test in the next quarter is whether the saving offsets part of the raw-material and logistics inflation.

Did Jindal Steel’s balance sheet improve?
Yes. Net debt fell by ₹1,141 crore to ₹14,786 crore, and net debt-to-EBITDA was 1.51x, according to the earnings-call summary. That places leverage close to management’s stated objective of getting below 1.5x, but it is not yet below that threshold.
Leverage should be read alongside expansion spending and the Angul ramp-up. A lower debt balance supports financial flexibility, while commissioning and ramp costs can temporarily absorb cash before the additional capacity contributes fully to earnings.
What should investors watch after the Q2FY27 release?
The most important follow-up questions concern execution, prices and costs rather than whether the company beat the initial revenue estimate.

Q1FY27 provides context but is not a Q2 estimate. In the prior quarter, consolidated profit attributable to owners fell 43.5% year over year to ₹844.79 crore. Revenue from operations was ₹15,482.13 crore, up 25.9% year over year but down 4.5% sequentially. Against that baseline, Q2’s reported net revenue represented a sequential improvement, while profit should be interpreted using the company’s stated reporting basis for each period.
What is the standalone revenue figure?
ICICI Direct reported standalone revenue from operations of ₹15,270.45 crore for Q2FY27, up 26.11% year over year. Standalone revenue covers the parent entity, whereas the headline preview and the earnings-call figure use consolidated or net-revenue measures. The two should not be combined in one growth calculation.

Why can record steel sales fail to produce a similar rise in profit?
Selling more tonnes does not guarantee higher margins. If coking coal, electricity, fuel, freight or other costs rise faster than steel realizations, incremental volume can add revenue while contributing less profit per tonne.
