Neither tool is a universal winner. The reported iWork Intelligent Assistant is a beta feature inside Apple Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, while Microsoft Copilot spans personal and work/school experiences and can connect with Microsoft 365 apps and organizational content. Choose the assistant that matches where your files live, the apps you use, your account or license, privacy requirements, and the current verified price. Apple’s feature, availability, and reported Creator Studio requirement are recent and should be confirmed before you subscribe; Microsoft likewise varies features by plan, region, and organization settings.
What is the difference between iWork Intelligent Assistant and Microsoft Copilot?
The key difference is scope: Apple’s assistant is reported as an in-app helper for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, whereas Copilot is a broader Microsoft service with separate personal and work/school experiences.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesReports published on October 22, 2026 describe Apple’s Intelligent Assistant as a beta feature added to the three iWork apps for Apple Creator Studio subscribers. MacRumors and AppleInsider are the available sources for those details, not an Apple release note: MacRumors’ report and AppleInsider’s report.
Microsoft describes the Copilot app as adapting to the account used to sign in. A personal experience can be used with or without a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium subscription, while a licensed work or school experience includes enterprise data protection. Microsoft 365 Copilot is separately described as integrating large language models with Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 applications and services.

| Release status | Reported beta | Feature availability varies by plan, region, and account type |

What can the iWork Intelligent Assistant do?
The reported Apple feature set is organized around each iWork app rather than a single general-purpose chat window.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Pages: drafting and revising documents
In Pages, the assistant is reported to start a draft, revise or organize existing writing, draft individual sections, and adjust tone. It can also create images or shapes and search for current information to incorporate into a document. Those descriptions come from the October 22 reports, so treat them as a beta feature list rather than a guaranteed feature set on every device or account.
A practical Pages workflow would be to open a document, ask for an outline or a missing section, review the generated text against your source material, then ask for a tone change or structural edit. Keep factual checking separate: a generated paragraph is not evidence that the underlying information is correct.
Keynote: slide construction and presenter support
Keynote’s reported tools include building or refining slides, adding animations, generating slides and presenter notes, creating images or shapes, and searching for current information to include in a presentation. The value is highest when you already know the audience and objective; otherwise, a polished-looking deck can still have an unsuitable narrative or unsupported claims.
Review every generated slide for hierarchy, legibility, and source attribution. Check animations in slideshow mode and read presenter notes aloud before presenting, because the reports do not establish that the assistant understands your preferred timing or speaking style.
Numbers: tables, formulas, charts, and visualization
Numbers is reported to gain help generating tables, working with formulas, suggesting charts, visualizing data, and searching for current information to incorporate into a spreadsheet. These tasks address setup and exploration, not automatic validation of a financial or operational model.

In-app guidance
The reports say all three apps provide guidance on using the features and trying suggestions. Because the assistant is described as beta and Apple’s official material located for this topic covers broader Apple Intelligence rather than this iWork feature, the exact interface, supported languages, devices, and rollout regions should be checked in the app and Apple’s current documentation.
What can Microsoft Copilot do in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint?
Microsoft’s documentation describes Copilot as a family of experiences whose available actions depend on the signed-in account, subscription, region, and organization policy.
Copilot app capabilities
Microsoft’s Copilot app documentation lists asking questions, creating images, creating Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, uploading or working with files, and delegating multi-step work with Cowork. These are Microsoft’s product claims, not independent measurements of quality or reliability. The same documentation explains that the app adapts to personal versus work/school sign-in: Microsoft’s Copilot app guide.
Before uploading a file, confirm which account is active and what retention or sharing rules apply. A personal account and a managed organizational account can expose different controls and permitted data sources.
Microsoft 365 app and Graph integration
Microsoft Learn describes Microsoft 365 Copilot as using large language models with Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 apps and services, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. It also describes Microsoft 365 Copilot as an add-on plan with licensing prerequisites. Read the service description for the current licensing boundary: Microsoft 365 Copilot service description.
That architecture can matter to an organization whose work is already distributed across mail, meetings, files, and collaboration spaces. It does not mean every user automatically receives every feature: permissions, tenant settings, subscription type, and rollout status still control access.

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint expectations
Copilot’s documented file-creation and Microsoft 365 integration make it a broader fit for users who move between Word documents, Excel workbooks, PowerPoint decks, Outlook messages, and Teams content. The supplied sources do not provide a controlled comparison with Pages, Keynote, or Numbers, so do not infer that one product’s generated text, formulas, or slides are inherently more accurate.
Which assistant fits your workflow?
The best choice follows your existing file format and collaboration habits, not a generic ranking.
| If most of your work is… | Likely starting point | Why | Check first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pages documents, Keynote decks, and Numbers sheets on Apple devices | iWork Intelligent Assistant | Its reported actions are embedded in those three apps | Whether the beta is available for your device, region, language, and Apple account |
| Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files only | Microsoft Copilot | Microsoft documents file creation and app integration | Your personal, work, or school license and the exact features it unlocks |
| Outlook, Teams, SharePoint or other Microsoft 365 content | Microsoft 365 Copilot | Microsoft describes Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 service integration | Tenant permissions, data-protection terms, and administrator enablement |
| Mixed Apple and Microsoft environments | Run a small pilot of both | The useful assistant may change by file and collaborator | Export fidelity, sharing permissions, and duplicate subscription cost |
| Highly regulated or confidential work | Whichever your administrator approves | Account controls and contractual terms matter more than convenience | Data handling, retention, audit, and approved-account requirements |
Do you need a subscription to use the iWork assistant?
According to the October 22, 2026 reports, access to the beta iWork Intelligent Assistant is tied to an Apple Creator Studio subscription. MacRumors reports a price of $12.99 per month, but that figure is secondary reporting and was not confirmed by an Apple plan page in the available sources.
Do not treat $12.99 as a guaranteed current price, a worldwide price, or proof of the assistant’s final terms. Before paying, verify the subscription name, billing period, taxes, cancellation terms, supported devices, languages, and whether the assistant is included in your region. Apple’s official September 14, 2026 newsroom article discusses Apple Intelligence and Siri AI generally, not this iWork assistant: Apple Newsroom.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Treat those as open questions in the purchase screen rather than assumptions.
Which Microsoft account or license do you need?
Microsoft’s answer depends on whether you are using Copilot personally or through an organization.
Personal account
The Copilot app can provide a personal experience with or without a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Premium subscription. Microsoft says feature availability varies by subscription type, so a free sign-in should not be assumed to include premium Office features or every file-creation action.

Work or school account
Microsoft says a licensed work or school experience includes enterprise data protection. Microsoft 365 Copilot is described as an add-on with licensing prerequisites, which means an organization may need to assign the appropriate license and enable related services before users see the full experience.

Microsoft’s iPhone and iPad guidance says the apps are free to download, while qualifying personal subscriptions or work/school licenses unlock more Copilot and premium Office features. It also warns that features vary by region, license, and organization settings. Follow the current setup guidance here: Microsoft’s iPhone and iPad setup instructions.
- Install the official Copilot or Microsoft 365 app from your device’s app store.
- Sign in with the identity that owns the subscription or was assigned by your organization.
- Confirm the account shown in the app before opening, uploading, or generating a file.
- Check which Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Teams features are visible; missing controls usually indicate a license, region, or administrator setting rather than an app-installation error.
- Ask your administrator to verify licensing and policy if a work/school feature remains unavailable.
How do privacy and organizational controls compare?
Microsoft provides the clearer plan-specific statement in the supplied material: licensed work or school Copilot has enterprise data protection, and Microsoft 365 Copilot operates within Microsoft 365 and Graph permissions. Your organization still needs to configure access correctly; enterprise protection does not authorize a user to read content they could not already access.
Apple’s September 2026 newsroom release describes on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI generally. It does not establish that the reported iWork Intelligent Assistant has identical processing, retention, or account controls. Do not use the general Apple privacy description as feature-specific proof until Apple publishes terms for the iWork assistant.
For either product, create a written data-handling rule before rollout:
Recommended Free Tools
- Use only an approved account for confidential work.
- Do not paste regulated, contractual, or customer data into an unapproved personal account.
- Record who can access the source files and generated outputs.
- Require human review for legal, financial, medical, security, or external-facing content.
- Check whether generated images, charts, or text need source attribution or a disclosure under your policy.
How much do the two options cost?
The available evidence is not sufficient for a like-for-like price table. Apple’s $12.99 monthly Creator Studio figure is reported by MacRumors, while the Microsoft sources explain account and licensing models without supplying a complete comparable price matrix.
| Cost question | iWork Intelligent Assistant | Microsoft Copilot |
|---|---|---|
| Published figure in the supplied sources | $12.99 per month, reported by MacRumors for Creator Studio | Not stated in the cited Microsoft pages |
| Confidence | Secondary report; verify against Apple’s current subscription page | Plan-dependent; verify your personal or organization offer |
| What else may be included | Creator Studio benefits are not fully established in the available sources | Microsoft 365 apps and services depend on the selected personal or work/school plan |
| Potential extra cost | Existing iWork users may pay for access specifically to the assistant | Microsoft 365 Copilot may require an add-on and qualifying base license |
Compare total annual cost, not just the AI label. Include an existing office subscription, organization licensing, taxes, storage or service bundles, and the cost of moving files between ecosystems. If you cannot confirm a current price from the provider, mark it as unverified rather than using an old listing.
Best Value
How should you choose between them?
Use a short, representative pilot instead of judging from a marketing demo.
- List your real files. Count how many active projects are in Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Define three tasks per app. For example, revise a two-page brief, build a five-slide update, and explain a formula in a sample workbook.
- Separate access from quality. First confirm that the assistant appears under the correct account and license; only then judge its output.
- Use the same source material where formats allow. Keep prompts, constraints, and reference facts as similar as possible, while recognizing that the apps expose different controls.
- Score the work you actually need. Check factual accuracy, edit time, formula correctness, slide readability, citation needs, and how easily collaborators can continue editing.
- Test handoffs. Export an iWork file to a Microsoft format, or import a Microsoft file into an Apple app, and inspect layout, formulas, fonts, comments, and notes.
- Review governance. Ask who owns the account, where files are stored, what administrators can control, and how outputs are retained.
- Calculate total cost. Include subscriptions, add-on licenses, and any migration or training effort.
A product that saves time in your dominant app can be the better choice even if the other assistant advertises more features. Conversely, a team that lives in Microsoft 365 may value Graph-connected organizational context more than an assistant limited to three iWork applications.
What are the main limitations and failure modes?
Both products can produce plausible but incorrect work, and the evidence does not show a performance winner. The practical risks differ by product maturity and account setup.
iWork-specific risks
- The assistant is reported as beta, so controls and behavior may change.
- Apple’s exact device, language, region, and release requirements for this feature are not established by the cited official material.
- The reported Creator Studio price and eligibility need confirmation.
- Generated formulas, charts, images, and current-information summaries still require source and result checking.
Copilot-specific risks
- Personal, work, and school accounts can expose different capabilities and data boundaries.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing prerequisites and administrator settings can block features even when the app is installed.
- Region, subscription, and rollout differences mean that another user’s screen may not match yours.
- Graph-connected context follows existing permissions; it is not a substitute for cleaning up overshared files.
Recovery checklist when output is wrong
- Identify the exact source file, account, app, and model experience used.
- Re-run the task with explicit facts, units, dates, audience, and output constraints.
- Ask for a transformation of supplied content rather than an unsupported factual answer.
- Verify formulas, links, citations, names, and dates independently.
- Restore the prior document version if the generated edit damaged structure or formatting.
- Report repeatable failures through your organization’s support channel or the provider’s feedback control.
So, which productivity AI is better?
iWork Intelligent Assistant is the more natural starting point for an Apple user whose active work is already in Pages, Keynote, and Numbers and who can verify access to the reported beta. Microsoft Copilot is the broader option for people working across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Microsoft 365 organizational content, provided their account and license support the needed features.
That is a workflow decision, not a quality verdict. The supplied sources contain no independent benchmark showing that either assistant writes better, calculates more accurately, or saves more time. Confirm Apple’s current beta terms and price, confirm Microsoft’s license and administrator requirements, then judge both with your own files and review standards.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use iWork Intelligent Assistant and Microsoft Copilot together?
Yes, you can keep each assistant in its native ecosystem and use standard file exports or shared source material for handoffs. Check formatting, formulas, comments, presenter notes, and permissions after every conversion because the supplied sources do not establish perfect cross-format fidelity.
Will an Apple device run Microsoft Copilot?
Microsoft provides Copilot and Microsoft 365 apps for iPhone and iPad, with free downloads and additional features unlocked by qualifying subscriptions or work/school licenses. The documentation says availability can vary by region, license, and organization settings, so device ownership alone does not determine access.
Does Microsoft 365 Copilot let every employee see company files?
No. Microsoft describes Graph-connected Copilot as operating with Microsoft 365 data and existing permissions. An employee’s results should be limited by the access rights already assigned to that account, although organizations should audit overshared files and groups.
Is the iWork assistant’s reported $12.99 price permanent?
No permanence is established. The amount is a MacRumors report from October 2026, and the available Apple primary source does not confirm this assistant’s plan, price, or final release terms; verify the live Apple subscription offer before subscribing.
