It is not a current model. Breville’s product page marks the LAH400WHT discontinued, which changes the buying decision: a discounted listing may be old stock rather than a supported current product, and marketplace stock can differ in condition and included accessories.
How large a room can the LAH400WHT humidify?
Use it in a 20–40 m² room, with 40 m² being Breville’s maximum advertised coverage. Actual humidity will depend on ceiling height, ventilation, doors, heating and how dry the room is; the rating is not a guarantee that every 40 m² space will reach a target humidity.

A large tank reduces refill frequency compared with compact bedroom units, but it also gives standing water more opportunity to become stale if the appliance is left unused. Empty it when you will not run it and follow the weekly cleaning routine rather than treating the tank as a set-and-forget reservoir.
Can the LAH400WHT make both warm and cool mist?
Yes. The product is documented with both cool- and warm-mist settings. Cool mist is useful when you do not want additional heat; warm mist can feel more comfortable in a cool room. The warm setting does not remove the need for cleaning, and the manual’s water restrictions still apply.
Do not assume that a warm setting sterilises the tank or makes questionable water safe. Breville’s manual specifies cold tap water or distilled water and warns against ground water and hot water. Fill with the permitted water type before selecting the desired mist mode.
How does SensAir automatic humidity control work?

Automatic operation
Use the automatic setting when you want SensAir to regulate output in response to room temperature. Leave the unit on a level surface with its tank correctly seated, then allow time for the room to respond before judging the result.
Manual mist levels
Manual levels let you choose the output directly. Lower settings can be preferable for a small bedroom or overnight use; higher settings are intended for faster humidification in a dry, larger room. The published maximum output is more than 260 mL/h, not a promise that every level delivers that rate.

Retailers describe a night mode and timer, which can be useful when you do not want continuous operation. Baby, health, remote-control and aromatherapy functions are also listed by some sellers. Confirm that each accessory and mode is present before paying, especially when the listing is for discontinued inventory.
Is the Breville LAH400WHT quiet?
Breville specifies noise of up to 43 dB(A). That is a published maximum, not a guarantee of a particular sound level at every mist setting or in every room. Ultrasonic operation avoids the mechanical noise of a large fan, but water movement, alerts and the selected output can still be audible.
If you are sensitive to sound, run the unit at the intended night setting in the room where it will be used and check the seller’s return terms before opening a discontinued unit. A product listing that simply says “silent” should not override the manufacturer’s 43 dB(A) specification.

Measure the space around your intended location, not just the footprint. You need room to remove the tank, fill it without splashing and wipe the basin and transducer. The manual recommends a waterproof mat or pad underneath, so allow space for that as well.

Follow the supplied manual for the exact button sequence, but the safe installation sequence is straightforward:
- Choose a stable, level location. Place the humidifier where it cannot be knocked over and where mist will not fall directly on electronics, books or finished surfaces.
- Add protection underneath. Breville recommends a waterproof mat or pad. This is especially important because owner feedback reports water pooling around the reservoir.
- Unplug before handling water. Disconnect the power before removing or refitting the tank, emptying the basin or cleaning the transducer.
- Fill with permitted water. Use cold tap water or distilled water only. The manual warns against ground water and hot water.
- Seat the removable tank correctly. Check for drips and make sure the tank and basin are aligned before switching on.
- Select a mode and observe the first run. Start at a moderate mist level or automatic mode, then inspect the surrounding surface for moisture or pooling.
- Keep clearance around the outlet. Do not cover the mist path or place objects where condensation can collect.

What water can you use?
The manual permits cold tap water or distilled water. It specifically warns against ground water and hot water. That instruction matters for both safety and maintenance: using an unapproved source can introduce contaminants or mineral load that the purifier cartridge and cleaning routine were not designed to handle.
Do not pour hot water into the tank simply because you plan to use warm mist; the warm setting is an operating mode, not permission to fill with hot water. Empty unused water instead of leaving it in the tank between uses.
How often should you clean the LAH400WHT?
Plan on weekly cleaning. CHOICE recommends cleaning the tank, basin and transducer weekly and lists weekly filter cleaning as well. Appliances Online owners describe wet nooks and water pooling that make cleaning awkward, and warn that regular cleaning is needed to prevent mould.
- Power down and unplug. Never clean with the appliance connected to mains power.

- Inspect before refilling. Check for cracks, displaced seals and persistent pooling. If a fault remains, stop using the unit and use the seller’s warranty or return process.
The cleaning burden is the main ownership trade-off. A large tank and automatic control do not compensate for neglected water-contact parts. If weekly maintenance is unrealistic, choose a model with a simpler, better-documented cleaning design instead.

CHOICE recorded a $299 review price for its assessment accessed in 2026. That is a historical review figure, not a current recommended retail price or a promise that a listing at that price is fair today.
Breville’s specification sheet lists a two-year warranty. Because the model is discontinued, confirm in writing whether the seller is an authorised channel, whether the warranty applies to that specific unit and region, and how a claim would be handled if parts are unavailable.
